ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Elijah performed seven miracles during his life. Elisha performed thirteen. Both divided the Jordon River and they each raised a dead child to life. The last miracle credited to Elisha was the most unusual. 2 Kings 13 says, “Elisha died and was buried…Once while some Israelites were burying a man…they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet” (verses 20-21). Truly Elisha inherited a double portion of Elijah’s anointing.
When he [Elisha] struck the water[with Elijah’s mantle], it divided to the right and to the left… The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, “The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha.”
— 2 Kings 2:14-15 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, give us a double portion of the Holy Spirit. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
