Herrington has spent nearly 20 years in self storage, starting as a district manager in Kansas City before taking on leadership roles across Chicago, Northern California, and Southern California. Today, he leads operations, facilities, and construction across more than 4,400 stores.
Herrington shares how he leads a field organization that includes four senior vice presidents, 25 divisional vice presidents, and roughly 240 district managers. He explains how ideas move from stores to senior leadership, what he looks for in strong field leaders, and how Extra Space develops careers from the store level up. He also talks about the rollout of 1,700 kiosks and vestibules, the role of technology in improving the customer experience, and the mentors who shaped his leadership.
