00:00:00.160 --> 00:00:03.571
Hello, it's Wayne here from Whiskey Alpha Pilot and I'm back.
00:00:03.571 --> 00:00:11.369
Oh, actually I'm not back, I'm just here sitting in a studio talking to a microphone, but things have been quite interesting over the last couple of months.
00:00:11.369 --> 00:00:13.606
Now, one thing I've been asked is where's Wayne been?
00:00:13.606 --> 00:00:14.288
Where have you been?
00:00:14.288 --> 00:00:18.611
I haven't seen any flying videos and the answer to that is yeah, I've been busy.
00:00:18.611 --> 00:00:22.891
Unfortunately, I have a real life, I have a business to run and I've been busy.
00:00:22.891 --> 00:00:26.521
I have a business to run and I've been busy.
00:00:26.521 --> 00:00:27.324
I just haven't had time to go flying.
00:00:27.344 --> 00:00:28.405
And here in the UK the weather has been pans.
00:00:28.405 --> 00:00:38.162
At this very moment and this is a Saturday morning, end of April, it's a thousand foot cloud base at Elstree and it's been raining this morning and it ain't gonna get any better for the rest of the weekend.
00:00:38.162 --> 00:00:40.448
So, yeah, no flying poo.
00:00:40.448 --> 00:00:42.901
Anyway, kilo kilo is back from the annual.
00:00:42.901 --> 00:00:57.103
I have done a little bit of flying, mainly just to keep currency, because in the UK we have this CAA rule that we have to have at least three takeoffs and landings every 90 days to maintain currency, to be allowed to take passengers, and I've been maintaining that.
00:00:57.103 --> 00:01:03.368
But I just generally haven't been flying, mainly because of the weather and the fact that Kilo Kilo has been in for an annual.
00:01:03.368 --> 00:01:04.671
She's now back out.
00:01:04.671 --> 00:01:13.421
No massive issues, no big bills although I haven't actually been given a bill yet, but they didn't say that there's anything massive and she's now back at the airfield waiting for us to get in.
00:01:13.421 --> 00:01:16.408
Good news is I've got some flying booked and guess what?
00:01:16.408 --> 00:01:17.129
There's no Jack.
00:01:17.129 --> 00:01:19.240
Jack is not going to be here.
00:01:19.240 --> 00:01:21.364
Jack is not around on the first couple of flights.
00:01:21.364 --> 00:01:25.230
Hopefully I'll be flying with him at some point in the near future because it's great fun flying with jack.
00:01:25.230 --> 00:01:27.013
I will be going to private flyers.
00:01:27.013 --> 00:01:36.128
So if anyone's going to private flyer probably on the friday at high wickham, please, if you see me, shout, wave, scream you know the usual things, but be great to see you.
00:01:36.588 --> 00:01:40.465
I've got a couple of people lined up to come and chat to and youtube.
00:01:40.465 --> 00:01:43.450
Youtube's gone a bit nuts.
00:01:43.450 --> 00:01:44.051
Recently.
00:01:44.051 --> 00:01:58.754
There was one particular video which was shot over a year ago about a pretty crap landing of mine coming back from Sandown where basically I managed to balls up a landing and did a go around and then I landed it on the second attempt.
00:01:58.754 --> 00:02:07.771
It was a reasonably hot day, but main thing for me was I was tired, we'd gone down to Sandown, we'd had a day on the beach and come back back and I was just tired and I was making mistakes.
00:02:07.771 --> 00:02:31.614
So I in the light of what I do with YouTube is I published a video entitled how Not To Land and up to about three weeks ago, that video had a couple of thousand views, usual sort of thing and then YouTube seemed to have picked it up and it's gone absolutely bonkers and I mean bonkers, bonkers from a few thousand to tens of thousands of people viewing it.
00:02:31.614 --> 00:02:33.097
It's just like whoa.
00:02:33.457 --> 00:02:35.691
The problem is with more people viewing the video.
00:02:35.691 --> 00:02:38.276
You now get the trolls and the idiots come out.
00:02:38.276 --> 00:02:39.647
You shouldn't be flying.
00:02:39.647 --> 00:02:40.569
You're dangerous.
00:02:40.569 --> 00:02:41.812
You need to be retrained.
00:02:41.812 --> 00:02:43.516
I've had virtually everything.
00:02:43.737 --> 00:02:51.207
One thing it has flagged up is people have an obsession with landing on centerline, and yet the centerline is a good place to land on it.
00:02:51.207 --> 00:02:52.429
It's a good place to aim for.
00:02:52.429 --> 00:02:58.675
However, firstly, elstree centreline's got quite a few potholes, so we tend to land off to one side.
00:02:58.675 --> 00:03:03.161
Secondly, I don't put a camera slap bang in the middle of the centreline of the aircraft.
00:03:03.161 --> 00:03:14.936
Therefore, when you have a camera off to one side, you're going to see a slightly skewed view the only time you actually see what the centreline is is when you're actually on the center line on the runway, and then you can sort of see where it is.
00:03:14.936 --> 00:03:19.881
And people have just become so obsessed with the fact that I haven't landed on the center line.
00:03:19.881 --> 00:03:21.985
My crosswind landing technique is crap.
00:03:21.985 --> 00:03:26.906
It's just like really guys, and actually some of the comments have become quite personal and guess what?
00:03:26.906 --> 00:03:27.526
They get blocked.
00:03:27.526 --> 00:03:34.727
Sorry, not gonna upset rubbish from people who just probably spend all of their time on flight sim From other pilots.
00:03:34.727 --> 00:03:38.176
Some fantastic responses, some fantastic comments.
00:03:38.465 --> 00:03:43.317
You can always tell when someone's actually either a pilot or a particular instructor.
00:03:43.317 --> 00:03:49.979
99 times out of 100, instructors will actually give you not just criticism but also positive criticism.
00:03:49.979 --> 00:03:52.052
So they'll go yeah, that you did wrong.
00:03:52.052 --> 00:03:54.127
However, this is how you can correct it.
00:03:54.127 --> 00:03:55.471
That's how you spot an instructor.
00:03:55.471 --> 00:04:06.914
Well, I'll rephrase it that's how you spot a good instructor, because even if you've got it wrong, even if you stacked it on the runway, I dare say a good instructor will turn around and go well, there were some positives.
00:04:06.914 --> 00:04:11.935
Yeah, you just stacked it into the runway, but your use of flaps was very good at that point.
00:04:11.935 --> 00:04:14.852
Yeah, thanks, I didn't stack it into the runway.
00:04:14.852 --> 00:04:21.276
I just had a crap landing and, yes, did the go around, landed End of story Safely on the ground.
00:04:21.276 --> 00:04:22.951
I made mistakes.
00:04:23.125 --> 00:04:25.754
That was the whole point of me publishing the video.
00:04:25.754 --> 00:04:31.117
If people can't understand that, then maybe they shouldn't be flying either.
00:04:31.117 --> 00:04:35.127
It was how not to land and you've just proved my point.
00:04:35.127 --> 00:04:37.355
Anyway, that was.
00:04:37.355 --> 00:04:43.593
I thought I just needed to get that off my chest and publish the video, because he was just really, really mad.
00:04:43.593 --> 00:04:45.076
And the comments are still coming in.
00:04:45.076 --> 00:04:46.329
I've just seen one just popped in.
00:04:46.370 --> 00:04:47.999
Now I have got some more flying lined up.
00:04:47.999 --> 00:04:53.713
I've got a video that I'm currently editing of a trip to snowdon, so hopefully at at some point in time I'll get around to finishing that.
00:04:53.713 --> 00:04:56.567
And yes, that's with Jack and that was from last year.
00:04:56.567 --> 00:05:08.406
And I've got also a review coming through because I did a course over winter period because there wasn't much flying going on with a great guy and I can do a little brief review of that course.
00:05:08.406 --> 00:05:10.769
So there is quite a few bits and pieces coming on.
00:05:10.809 --> 00:05:15.315
But anyway, please, whatever you're doing, please criticise me if you wish.
00:05:15.315 --> 00:05:18.348
That is why I publish these videos and podcasts.
00:05:18.348 --> 00:05:32.757
If you don't learn anything from my mistakes, then there's not a lot I can do about that, but please listen to my other podcasts, watch my videos on the YouTube channel and if you're listening to this on Spotify or Apple, please consider clicking those star buttons and possibly leaving me a review.
00:05:32.757 --> 00:05:34.829
But anyway, please enjoy your flying.
00:05:34.829 --> 00:05:39.189
If you are a pilot, if you're learning to fly, please leave some comments.
00:05:39.189 --> 00:05:40.855
Love to have a chat to you.
00:05:40.855 --> 00:05:47.293
I'm now doing more and more podcasty things as well, so I'd love to talk to other pilots about their experiences.
00:05:47.293 --> 00:05:49.507
At the end of the day, there's two ways of learning.
00:05:49.507 --> 00:05:57.154
There's the mistakes that you make, but also there's learning from the mistakes that other people make, and they're cheaper because they made them, not you.
00:05:57.154 --> 00:06:00.593
But whatever you do, please enjoy your flying and fly safe.
00:06:00.593 --> 00:06:01.535
Thanks for listening.
00:06:01.535 --> 00:06:02.838
Bye.
