ABOUT THIS EPISODE
“We don’t read the Bible,” said Kierkegaard, the Danish theologian, “it reads us.” And so it does, doesn’t it? Reads us like an open book. With uncanny accuracy it lays bare our deepest and most real selves. The temptation story is no longer just the narrative of Adam’s fall. Now it’s my story, and yours. And it isn’t just the story of Adam and Eve that lays bare our deepest selves, but every Biblical story. The Old Testament is literally crammed with biographical accounts, all of which expose the true character of our human nature. To tell you the absolute truth, I see something of myself in each of them, especially in their weaknesses.
“All these things happened to them as examples—as object lessons to us—to warn us against doing the same things; they were written down so that we could read about them and learn from them in these last days as the world nears its end.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:11 (TLB)
Lord Jesus, help me to learn from those who have gone before me lest I repeat their mistakes. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
