00:00:00.960 --> 00:00:06.360
Good morning. This is Send7, world news in seven minutes.
2
00:00:06.599 --> 00:00:11.300
I'm Stephen Devincenzi. Today is Friday the 9th of October, 2026.
3
00:00:11.289 --> 00:00:12.990
Starting in Europe today.
4
00:00:13.169 --> 00:00:16.250
In Ukraine, a Russian airstrike on a bus and bus
5
00:00:16.269 --> 00:00:18.670
stop killed at least 33 civilians yesterday.
6
00:00:31.370 --> 00:00:34.960
The guided aerial bomb hit the bus in the city
7
00:00:35.119 --> 00:00:39.799
of Kramatorsk in the eastern Donetsk region. Three people were
8
00:00:39.880 --> 00:00:43.780
also killed by artillery fire on a village near Kramatorsk.
9
00:00:44.539 --> 00:00:49.039
On Wednesday, at least 22 people, including five children, were
10
00:00:49.079 --> 00:00:52.829
killed in the northern region of Chernihiv when a Russian
11
00:00:52.909 --> 00:00:57.189
strike on an apartment building caused the building to collapse.
12
00:00:58.049 --> 00:01:02.670
British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband is in Ukraine and visited
13
00:01:02.829 --> 00:01:07.049
the destroyed building yesterday. He said that these attacks were
14
00:01:07.129 --> 00:01:11.969
a sign of Putin's evil and announced new sanctions on Russia.
15
00:01:12.569 --> 00:01:14.640
But I'm here to say we are not just going
16
00:01:14.700 --> 00:01:17.939
to say words of support, we are going to offer
17
00:01:17.959 --> 00:01:21.400
deeds of support as well. So today we're announcing more
18
00:01:21.439 --> 00:01:27.209
sanctions on Russia, on the war machine of Putin, on
19
00:01:27.250 --> 00:01:31.030
the Shadow Fleet, on the oil companies, on the crypto,
20
00:01:31.439 --> 00:01:33.260
on the financing of the war. We are here to
21
00:01:33.299 --> 00:01:37.260
announce more humanitarian support. We are here to announce more
22
00:01:37.599 --> 00:01:38.959
support for energy.
23
00:01:39.900 --> 00:01:43.840
Also in Ukraine, the United Nations has said that there
24
00:01:43.939 --> 00:01:48.659
are still around 1,700 people living in the town of
25
00:01:48.680 --> 00:01:53.340
Oleshky in the southern region of Kherson, despite there being
26
00:01:53.609 --> 00:01:59.129
no water, electricity or heating. Oleshky is in the Russian-occupied
27
00:01:59.250 --> 00:02:03.230
part of Ukraine, to the east of the Dnipro River. However,
28
00:02:03.469 --> 00:02:08.250
Ukrainian and Russian forces are fighting, mostly with drones, over
29
00:02:08.340 --> 00:02:11.840
the Dnipro River, and people are unable to leave the
30
00:02:11.879 --> 00:02:16.460
town of Oleshky. Ukraine says that it has airdropped food
31
00:02:16.740 --> 00:02:21.439
into Oleshky and accuses Russia of rejecting ceasefires to allow
32
00:02:21.520 --> 00:02:26.169
people to leave. Russia blames Ukraine for blocking food deliveries.
33
00:02:27.569 --> 00:02:33.509
In Spain, María del Carmen Abascal, who sparked ongoing protests
34
00:02:33.629 --> 00:02:39.259
about housing, has died aged 87. Abascal, generally known as
35
00:02:39.479 --> 00:02:43.240
María Carmen, was evicted from her home two weeks ago
36
00:02:43.740 --> 00:02:47.500
after having lived there since she was a teenager, after
37
00:02:47.539 --> 00:02:51.969
the investment company which had bought the apartment dramatically raised
38
00:02:52.090 --> 00:02:57.069
the rent. María Carmen's eviction was a leading cause of protests.
39
00:02:57.469 --> 00:03:02.139
that are continuing until today, and indirectly helped to cause
40
00:03:02.259 --> 00:03:06.340
a snap general election in Spain after Prime Minister Pedro
41
00:03:06.360 --> 00:03:11.120
Sánchez' s government wasn't able to pass housing and rental reform
42
00:03:11.259 --> 00:03:17.189
measures last week. Some protesters have chanted assassins, blaming the
43
00:03:17.270 --> 00:03:24.650
death of Mari Carmen on the state. America's United States
44
00:03:24.750 --> 00:03:28.879
President Donald Trump has announced that all children under the
45
00:03:29.039 --> 00:03:33.780
age of 18 now have a Trump account, as automatic
46
00:03:33.900 --> 00:03:39.060
enrolment has finished. Trump accounts are new investment accounts for
47
00:03:39.139 --> 00:03:44.099
children that are funded either by the government, by philanthropic
48
00:03:44.219 --> 00:03:50.139
donations or by families. All babies born during Trump's second
49
00:03:50.240 --> 00:03:56.409
term are automatically receiving $ 1, 000 in their accounts. Speaking next
50
00:03:56.490 --> 00:04:00.370
to President Trump at the White House, Mike Dell, founder
51
00:04:00.449 --> 00:04:03.870
of Dell Computers, said that his family has put $ 250
52
00:04:03.830 --> 00:04:07.430
into 25 million accounts, totalling $ 6. 25 billion. I started a company,
53
00:04:07.770 --> 00:04:15.409
Dell Technologies, with $ 1, 000.
54
00:04:17.670 --> 00:04:22.569
And in America, small beginnings can become extraordinary things. And
55
00:04:22.670 --> 00:04:26.850
I'm very pleased to let you know today that we
56
00:04:26.889 --> 00:04:30.310
have funded 10 million of those accounts as of this morning.
57
00:04:31.050 --> 00:04:33.009
And by the end of this week, we will have
58
00:04:33.029 --> 00:04:35.149
funded 25 million of those accounts.
59
00:04:36.930 --> 00:04:41.689
In Canada, a 16-year-old boy who had to be rescued
60
00:04:42.050 --> 00:04:45.290
from a mountain has said that he was lost after
61
00:04:45.389 --> 00:04:52.319
following incorrect directions from the AI chatbot Claude. In Chile,
62
00:04:52.540 --> 00:04:56.730
there has been flooding in central and southern regions, including
63
00:04:56.790 --> 00:05:00.850
the capital Santiago. One person is reported to have died
64
00:05:01.050 --> 00:05:06.930
and tens of thousands of people have lost power. Asia.
65
00:05:07.810 --> 00:05:12.870
In Yemen, forces of the internationally recognised government appear to
66
00:05:12.949 --> 00:05:17.009
have recaptured much of the land that the Houthi group
67
00:05:17.250 --> 00:05:21.290
conquered a few weeks ago on the west coast. There
68
00:05:21.310 --> 00:05:24.870
has been intense fighting in many parts of western Yemen
69
00:05:24.990 --> 00:05:28.360
for the last few days, and Saudi Arabia has also
70
00:05:28.500 --> 00:05:33.399
been trading missile fire with the Houthis. Yesterday, the New
71
00:05:33.439 --> 00:05:39.699
York Times reported that Pakistan had conducted airstrikes against the Houthis. However,
72
00:05:39.860 --> 00:05:45.420
Pakistan has said that this was fake and fabricated. In
73
00:05:45.720 --> 00:05:49.279
Israel and Palestine, it has now been one year since
74
00:05:49.420 --> 00:05:54.160
Israel and Hamas signed a ceasefire for Gaza. Gaza's health
75
00:05:54.220 --> 00:06:00.509
ministry says that 1,445 Palestinians have been killed since the
76
00:06:00.550 --> 00:06:06.250
ceasefire was signed a year ago. In Japan, investigations are
77
00:06:06.310 --> 00:06:12.170
being carried out into possible illegal collusion between beer companies.
78
00:06:13.040 --> 00:06:19.100
The beer manufacturers Asahi, Kirin, Suntory and Sapporo have been
79
00:06:19.199 --> 00:06:24.779
accused of fixing prices together. These four companies control over
80
00:06:24.779 --> 00:06:32.920
90% of Japan's beer market. Africa Ethiopia's government forces have
81
00:06:33.040 --> 00:06:38.290
used drones to attack Eritrean soldiers who have crossed into Ethiopia.
82
00:06:38.850 --> 00:06:44.009
According to the conflict monitoring group Akhled, Eritrean forces were
83
00:06:44.069 --> 00:06:48.120
reported to have entered the Tigray region last week during
84
00:06:48.189 --> 00:06:53.220
fighting between the Tigray People's Liberation Front and the Ethiopian military.
85
00:06:54.860 --> 00:07:00.230
And in the Seychelles, the number of giant tortoises is
86
00:07:00.389 --> 00:07:04.829
at a record high, according to a new survey. The
87
00:07:05.129 --> 00:07:11.360
Aldabra giant tortoise was once an endangered species. However, decades
88
00:07:11.600 --> 00:07:16.120
of conservation efforts have helped the tortoise numbers to grow
89
00:07:16.279 --> 00:07:22.860
to 180,000, almost double the human population of the Seychelles.
90
00:07:24.040 --> 00:07:28.250

In Ukraine, a Russian airstrike on a bus and bus

But I'm here to say we are not just going
16
00:01:14.700 --> 00:01:17.939
to say words of support, we are going to offer
17
00:01:17.959 --> 00:01:21.400
deeds of support as well. So today we're announcing more
18
00:01:21.439 --> 00:01:27.209
sanctions on Russia, on the war machine of Putin, on
19
00:01:27.250 --> 00:01:31.030
the Shadow Fleet, on the oil companies, on the crypto,
20
00:01:31.439 --> 00:01:33.260
on the financing of the war. We are here to
21
00:01:33.299 --> 00:01:37.260
announce more humanitarian support. We are here to announce more
22
00:01:37.599 --> 00:01:38.959
support for energy.
23

44
00:03:24.750 --> 00:03:28.879
President Donald Trump has announced that all children under the
