00:00:00.640 --> 00:00:05.919
What if the thing you've spent your whole life managing didn't need to be managed anymore?
00:00:06.160 --> 00:00:11.439
What if it could actually move through you and be released?
00:00:11.759 --> 00:00:14.160
That's what four women showed me this year.
00:00:14.320 --> 00:00:18.000
Not by talking about healing, but by actually doing it.
00:00:18.399 --> 00:00:26.559
You're listening to the emotional truth, somatic healing and nervous system regulation for the midlife woman who's done everything right and still feels stuck.
00:00:26.800 --> 00:00:30.559
I'm Leslie Turner, somatic practitioner and intuitive coach.
00:00:30.719 --> 00:00:31.679
I work in the body.
00:00:31.839 --> 00:00:37.200
I work intuitively, and I have a pretty uncanny ability to see what's actually running underneath.
00:00:37.359 --> 00:00:40.320
The stuff that therapy touched but never quite moved.
00:00:40.479 --> 00:00:47.439
Because understanding why you do something and actually stopping it are two completely different things, and that's exactly where we work.
00:00:47.600 --> 00:00:56.240
We cover people pleasing, mom burnout, perimenopause, relationships, money, and what it actually costs the woman who's always been the responsible one.
00:00:56.560 --> 00:01:00.960
Short episodes, real stories, specific enough to stop you in your tracks.
00:01:01.119 --> 00:01:02.640
Let's get into it.
00:01:03.520 --> 00:01:05.840
Today's episode is different from most.
00:01:06.159 --> 00:01:10.400
I'm not going to teach you a framework or walk you through a new idea.
00:01:10.560 --> 00:01:14.719
I'm going to do something simpler and honestly a little harder.
00:01:14.959 --> 00:01:18.480
I'm going to hand this over to the work itself.
00:01:19.599 --> 00:01:25.840
These are real transformations from real women that I've had the privilege and honor of sitting across from.
00:01:26.079 --> 00:01:34.159
Women who came in circling the same story, the same exhausted version of themselves, and found their way to something different.
00:01:34.400 --> 00:01:42.079
I'm sharing four of their journeys today, along with a few shorter glimpses into what this work actually creates.
00:01:42.719 --> 00:01:49.200
Before I do, there is a theme in Who Tends to Come and Sit Across From Me.
00:01:49.439 --> 00:02:03.599
They are the eldest daughters, the ones who function like a CEO of everyone else's life, the therapists and healers who hold space for the world, the moms who quietly organize everything so it doesn't fall apart.
00:02:03.840 --> 00:02:05.519
Do you recognize yourself here?
00:02:05.760 --> 00:02:07.040
You'll notice it as we go.
00:02:07.200 --> 00:02:10.000
I won't point it out every time, but listen for it.
00:02:10.479 --> 00:02:13.599
And before I share these with you, I want to say something important.
00:02:13.919 --> 00:02:21.199
These stories come from real clients, women who trusted me with some of the hardest, most tender parts of their lives.
00:02:21.439 --> 00:02:29.280
To protect that trust, I've changed identifying details and in some cases gently combined pieces of different journeys together.
00:02:29.520 --> 00:02:35.599
So if something sounds familiar, please know it isn't a retelling of a story specifically.
00:02:35.919 --> 00:02:42.400
But what I never change is the truth underneath it, what actually shifted, what actually healed.
00:02:42.879 --> 00:02:49.360
Let's start with a woman who taught me something about grief that I hadn't fully understood until we worked together.
00:02:49.599 --> 00:02:56.080
That love and resentment can live in the same body at the same time without canceling each other out.
00:02:56.560 --> 00:03:00.000
This is story one, and I call it the caretaker.
00:03:00.879 --> 00:03:07.439
I worked with a woman who spent years caring for a parent who was slowly declining in health.
00:03:07.759 --> 00:03:09.120
She showed up every day.
00:03:09.360 --> 00:03:13.360
Meals, appointments, the parts that nobody really sees.
00:03:13.759 --> 00:03:18.080
But underneath that, the caretaking was a very old story.
00:03:18.479 --> 00:03:22.240
Because when she was a kid, that same parent wasn't there for her.
00:03:22.400 --> 00:03:24.319
Not in the way she needed it.
00:03:24.960 --> 00:03:31.520
There was abandonment baked into the relationship long before those roles had to reverse.
00:03:32.000 --> 00:03:44.080
She's the one who remembers everyone's birthday, who shows up with the soup before anyone has to ask, who apologizes for taking up space in the middle of running herself into the ground.
00:03:44.400 --> 00:03:49.439
So when her parent finally passed, what she felt wasn't simple at all.
00:03:49.680 --> 00:03:55.360
It was grief, yeah, real grief, because she loved them, but it was also relief.
00:03:56.159 --> 00:04:00.240
And right beside that relief was guilt for feeling relief at all.
00:04:00.800 --> 00:04:12.639
And then underneath that, an old current of anger she'd never had room to feel because she spent her whole life being the one who showed up, the one who didn't get to fall apart.
00:04:13.360 --> 00:04:22.000
We worked through what it means to grieve someone you loved and resented at the same time, to let both be true without one canceling the other out.
00:04:22.240 --> 00:04:24.560
They're not in contradiction with each other.
00:04:24.720 --> 00:04:28.959
But that's what love looks like when it's tangled up with an old wound.
00:04:29.439 --> 00:04:43.199
What strikes me now, looking back at her story, is how much of the caretaking came from a nervous system that had learned decades earlier that being needed was the only safe way to stay connected, stay loved.
00:04:44.000 --> 00:04:48.000
That same wiring shows up in a lot of the women I work with.
00:04:48.399 --> 00:04:50.720
It just looks a little different each time.
00:04:51.920 --> 00:04:54.480
Story two, the one who couldn't rest.
00:04:55.120 --> 00:05:00.560
I worked with a woman who is, by most standards, absolutely brilliant.
00:05:01.120 --> 00:05:08.399
She's the one with the plan, the one holding it together, the one everyone else leans on, and she could not rest.
00:05:08.720 --> 00:05:10.959
Not wouldn't, actually couldn't.
00:05:11.279 --> 00:05:14.879
She makes lists in her head before she's even out of bed.
00:05:15.120 --> 00:05:21.839
Sitting still for more than a few minutes makes her feel itchy and vaguely guilty that she's should be doing something else.
00:05:22.079 --> 00:05:25.439
Even on vacation, she packs a project with her.
00:05:25.759 --> 00:05:31.279
Because somewhere early on, slowing down stopped being safe.
00:05:31.519 --> 00:05:43.600
If she wasn't rising to the occasion, organizing everyone else, producing something of value, being needed, some part of her believed that something bad was going to happen.
00:05:43.759 --> 00:05:47.439
So her nervous system learned one setting: hustle.
00:05:47.600 --> 00:05:49.040
Go, go, go, go, go.
00:05:49.360 --> 00:05:57.759
I remember one session where she tried to describe a weekend that she'd actually let herself do nothing, and she couldn't even get through a sentence without laughing at herself.
00:05:57.839 --> 00:06:01.120
Like the idea was almost embarrassing to admit out loud.
00:06:01.360 --> 00:06:03.759
That's how deep the wiring went.
00:06:04.079 --> 00:06:06.399
Rest was not neutral for her.
00:06:06.560 --> 00:06:08.959
It registered as risky.
00:06:09.360 --> 00:06:13.040
The work with her wasn't teaching her how to manage her time better.
00:06:13.199 --> 00:06:20.639
It was teaching her body that rest wasn't a risk anymore, that she could stop and nothing would fall apart, including her.
00:06:21.199 --> 00:06:25.600
Not every pattern, though, shows up as busyness and avoidance.
00:06:25.759 --> 00:06:31.199
Sometimes what a person is protecting isn't productivity and hustle.
00:06:31.360 --> 00:06:35.360
It's a connection to something much bigger than any one relationship.
00:06:35.600 --> 00:06:38.480
And this next story is about a different kind of loss.
00:06:39.199 --> 00:06:43.680
This is story three, the grief of a loss that doesn't resolve.
00:06:44.399 --> 00:06:49.279
I worked with a woman living through a kind of loss that doesn't really have an end point.
00:06:49.600 --> 00:06:54.160
The grief of losing someone who was literally a part of her.
00:07:08.399 --> 00:07:14.000
She's the one who says, I'm okay, before you've even finished asking her how she is.
00:07:14.319 --> 00:07:22.959
Who keeps moving, keeps doing, keeps showing up because stopping means feeling it, and feeling it has always seemed like too much.
00:07:23.600 --> 00:07:29.120
For a long time, staying busy was the only thing that made the feeling bearable.
00:07:29.439 --> 00:07:33.439
Movement instead of stillness, because stillness was where it caught up to her.
00:07:33.680 --> 00:07:39.759
Part of the work was simply letting her stop running from it long enough to find out what was actually there.
00:07:40.399 --> 00:07:48.000
What shifted wasn't that the grief disappeared, it's that she found a way to walk with it instead of being flattened by it.
00:07:48.240 --> 00:08:00.560
She started to feel like she could see the beauty in her life again and to carry forward the part of her that was lost in a way that let that love keep shining instead of just being buried under the weight of it.
00:08:00.959 --> 00:08:07.759
That's a lot of the work, not resolving grief, but learning to live inside of it differently.
00:08:08.560 --> 00:08:11.360
Now, loss doesn't always mean someone dying.
00:08:11.519 --> 00:08:18.160
Sometimes it's a version of your life ending, a relationship, an identity, a sense of who you thought you could trust.
00:08:18.399 --> 00:08:21.920
That's where this next woman was when she came to me.
00:08:22.240 --> 00:08:25.839
This is story four, the one who stopped overriding her gut.
00:08:26.720 --> 00:08:43.279
She came to me in the middle of a huge personal transition, grieving something significant, her anxiety through the roof, her nervous system stuck in fight or flight so consistently it had started to feel less like a state and more like her actual personality.
00:08:43.600 --> 00:08:50.799
One of the biggest shifts came when she started listening to what her gut had already been telling her, instead of talking herself out of it.
00:08:51.039 --> 00:08:56.639
She'd catch a read on a person or a decision and immediately start second guessing it.
00:08:56.879 --> 00:09:02.639
But slowly, by working together session by session, she learned to just believe herself.
00:09:02.960 --> 00:09:05.679
The proof showed up in her body too.
00:09:05.919 --> 00:09:16.000
In one of our in-person sessions, she worked through tension she'd been carrying in her back and shoulders for years, tension that had nowhere to go until it finally did.
00:09:16.399 --> 00:09:20.879
And it didn't get managed down, it got integrated.
00:09:21.120 --> 00:09:26.000
Step by step, she learned to let herself feel things instead of rushing past them.
00:09:26.240 --> 00:09:35.840
And now, on the other side of that transition, she carries herself differently, like someone who trusts what she knows instead of needing someone else to confirm it first.
00:09:38.320 --> 00:09:40.559
These are very different women.
00:09:40.799 --> 00:09:55.440
A caretaker learning to hold grief and relief at the same time, a woman learning that rest wouldn't undo her, a woman learning to carry love forward instead of burying it, a woman learning to trust her own gut again in her mind and in her body.
00:09:55.679 --> 00:10:00.080
These are different circumstances, different ages, different chapters of life.
00:10:00.399 --> 00:10:04.240
But underneath every one of them is the same thing.
00:10:04.480 --> 00:10:09.679
A body that learned a long time ago to protect itself in a very specific way.
00:10:10.080 --> 00:10:14.240
A body that, with the right kind of attention, could learn something different.
00:10:14.559 --> 00:10:17.200
These are not four unrelated stories.
00:10:17.600 --> 00:10:21.519
These are a pattern showing up in four different lives.
00:10:21.840 --> 00:10:28.240
And it's a similar pattern I see in some form in almost every woman who sits across from me.
00:10:28.480 --> 00:10:31.039
These are a couple more examples.
00:10:31.600 --> 00:10:45.919
A woman whose adult children are struggling with addiction and mental health, who loves them fiercely and has also had to learn that love and boundaries aren't opposites, that protecting her own peace isn't abandoning them.
00:10:46.559 --> 00:10:54.399
A woman rebuilding her relationship to her own body after years of abuse taught her that it wasn't safe to listen to her own intuition.
00:10:54.720 --> 00:10:59.120
Because if she had, she would have known the truth long before she let herself see it.
00:10:59.759 --> 00:11:08.720
Different women, different stories, different chapters of their life, but on the other side of the work, something similar shows up in every single one of them.
00:11:08.960 --> 00:11:16.320
They feel lighter, more of themselves, more in touch with who they actually are and what they actually need.
00:11:16.799 --> 00:11:21.919
They know themselves not by what happened to them, but by who they are underneath it.
00:11:22.399 --> 00:11:34.960
They're empowered in a way that never felt possible before, confident enough to take bigger leaps forward for the first time in years, and centered in who they really are.
00:11:35.759 --> 00:11:39.679
That's not just about how they feel, that's how they see the world.
00:11:39.919 --> 00:11:41.519
And that's the biggest shift.
00:11:41.679 --> 00:11:43.600
That's what's actually possible.
00:11:44.639 --> 00:11:52.879
If you recognize yourself in any of these stories and you want to see what's on the other side of your own patterns, please come talk to me.
00:11:53.039 --> 00:11:57.519
We can look at what actually fits your time, your budget, and your life right now.
00:11:58.000 --> 00:12:03.279

We'll see you soon.
00:12:07.519 --> 00:12:10.720
If this episode landed somewhere, don't just let it sit there.
00:12:10.879 --> 00:12:13.840
That feeling you have right now, that's not a coincidence.
00:12:14.000 --> 00:12:17.039
That's your nervous system telling you something is ready to move.
00:12:17.200 --> 00:12:28.960
The Intuitive Circle is my membership where we stop circling around it and actually move through it twice a month, live with me, body-based, real time, and specific to what's actually running for you.
00:12:29.200 --> 00:12:30.480
Doors are open right now.
00:12:30.639 --> 00:12:35.120
Go grab your spot at Leslie Turner.ca slash the intuitive circle.
00:12:35.279 --> 00:12:39.840
And if this was the episode that made you pull over and think, wait, is she talking about me?
00:12:40.000 --> 00:12:44.559
Please subscribe, leave a review, and send it to the woman in your life who needs to hear it.
00:12:44.720 --> 00:12:46.960
You know exactly who I'm talking about.
00:12:47.200 --> 00:12:50.480
You can find me on Instagram at the Leslie Turner.
00:12:50.720 --> 00:12:55.440
Until next time, the fact that you're here and listening means you're already doing this work.
