ABOUT THIS PODCAST 🔗
Just two girls and their arbitrary system for ranking romantic comedies against the world. Does It Get the Pass? examines romantic comedies throughout the ages to determine, as the title says, whether they get "the pass' — i.e., avoid fulfilling a certain number of stereotypes — and what that means for our understanding of romance as a genre. All in good fun, hosts Maggie and Rebecca seek to pick apart the genre they love the most with humor and heart, and decide just what makes a good rom-com, whether it gets the pass or not.

In an effort to go back to our roots as massive Doctor Who nerds, this week we're covering a film written by and starring the Twelfth Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi! Listen on for talk about media preservation, Capaldi's iconic manic personality, and the soft launch of a new project from Maggie!

With March being Oscars month, we're talking about one of the few rom-coms to ever win an Academy Award — though whether we consider Cher and Nic Cage's turn in Moonstruck a rom-com or not is up for debate. Stick around for discussions of Enchanted, Vampire's Kiss, and Cher's iconic Bob Mackie Osca…
After a slow February (sorry y'all!) we're back to our regularly scheduled programming, this time to talk about Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. in Only You! We also hit on the pros and cons of "location" rom-coms, Billy Zane's terrible wig, and somehow, Tombstone.

Buckle up, it's our first ever celebration of the most romantic holiday of the year: Valentine's Day! Instead of discussing a particular film this week, we're celebrating the genre by talking about our favorite rom-coms, actors we'd like to see in rom-coms in the future, and how far we've come with…
