ABOUT THIS EPISODE
The Book of Hebrews: Perfection in Christ | Survey of Hebrews
What is the central message of the book of Hebrews? Why does God place such an emphasis on the superiority of Jesus Christ, His priesthood, and His finished work of salvation?
In this introductory survey of Hebrews, we examine the overarching theme of PERFECTION IN CHRIST and trace the argument of the book from beginning to end.
The book of Hebrews reveals that Jesus Christ has accomplished what the law could never accomplish: eternal perfection through His finished work. But God does not intend for His children to stop at salvation. He desires that those whom He has perfected eternally continue toward perfection through faith, obedience, and submission to His word.
Our survey divides Hebrews into three major sections:
1. SUPREMACY — Hebrews 1–10
The supremacy of Jesus Christ, His priesthood, and His finished work. Christ alone provides eternal salvation and perfection.
2. SUBMISSION — Hebrews 11
God requires man to submit by faith to what He has declared concerning Jesus Christ. Eternal perfection is received through faith, not works.
3. SANCTIFICATION — Hebrews 12–13
Those whom Christ has perfected eternally are called to pursue holiness and spiritual maturity through obedience to the word of God.
Throughout this study, we will see that the word of God is essential to both salvation and sanctification. We cannot separate Jesus Christ from His word.
