ABOUT THIS EPISODE
HEBREWS | Bible Study #1 — Introduction
The book of Hebrews is one of the most profound and frequently misunderstood books in the Bible. At its heart is the supremacy of Jesus Christ, the sufficiency of His finished work, and the perfection that can only be found in Him.
In this introductory lesson to our verse-by-verse exposition of Hebrews, we establish the foundation necessary to properly understand and interpret this remarkable book.
In this study, we examine:
• The authorship of Hebrews and the biblical evidence identifying the Apostle Paul as its writer.
• The original audience and why understanding whom the book addresses is essential to proper interpretation.
• The dispensational placement of Hebrews and its doctrinal application to the church.
• The dangers of forcing preconceived theological systems upon the Scriptures.
• The central theme of Hebrews: PERFECTION IN CHRIST.
• The distinction between eternal perfection through salvation and progressive perfection through sanctification.
• The superiority of Christ's priesthood over the Levitical priesthood.
• The absolute sufficiency of Jesus Christ and His finished work apart from the law.
Throughout this study, we emphasize a fundamental principle of biblical interpretation: We must allow the Scriptures to establish our doctrine rather than forcing our doctrine upon the Scriptures.
Hebrews is not a book intended to create uncertainty concerning salvation. It is a book that exalts Jesus Christ and establishes the eternal sufficiency of His sacrifice.
Key Scriptures: Hebrews 2:11–15; 3:1; 4:2–3; 6:1; 7:19; 10:14; 13:20–22.
Join us as we begin this detailed, verse-by-verse study of Hebrews, allowing the word of God to speak for itself.
