O TYM ODCINKU
Hannah DeSouza and Dr. David Pocta begin a new Thread series on the Gospel of John, explaining how John differs from the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke) in its “from above” perspective, developed Christology, and spiritual, contemplative focus. They situate each gospel in its historical context and describe John as addressing a post-temple, post-synagogue crisis by reframing access to God around Jesus as the new temple who “tabernacles” among humanity (John 1:14), fulfilling Israel’s rituals and feasts (lamb of God, living water, light, bread). Reading John 1, they highlight themes of Word/logos, light and darkness, witness, belief, and incarnation, then discuss John the Baptist’s role and Jesus’ first words in John—“What are you seeking?” and “Come and see”—as an invitation into relationship, abiding, and a spirituality grounded in love.
