Say his name and he appears.
WWE superstar Joe Hendry joins The Rizzuto Show ahead of Monday Night Raw at the Enterprise Center, and somehow we go from professional wrestling and chart-topping music to inhaling rice in front of William Regal, Loch Ness Monster portals and whether Joe can get Rafe a tag-team title opportunity.
Joe takes us inside his wild rise from wrestling fan in Scotland to one of WWE’s hottest stars, including how “I Believe in Joe Hendry” was recorded in his friend’s bedroom before exploding online and climbing the charts. He even recalls asking Taylor Swift to kindly take a week off — and then actually leapfrogging her on the UK chart. Totally normal career trajectory.
That leads to Moon casually revealing that Goldfinger recorded Christian’s WWE entrance music, sending Joe into full wrestling-fan mode and sparking a conversation about the insane loyalty of WWE fans. Apparently wrestling and video games have been secretly running the music industry this entire time.
Joe also breaks down his new album Beyond Belief, including writing 10 tracks in less than four days and somehow turning tables, ladders, chairs and an Elimination Chamber into relationship metaphors. Nothing says romance like comparing your emotional baggage to getting launched through furniture.
Then we get to the part where professional wrestling sounds significantly less fun.
Joe tells us about taking a knee directly to the face during a match, immediately assuming his nose and orbital bones were broken, finishing the match anyway and then wandering around Argentina with two black eyes trying to find his signature blue shirt. He also explains what Bron Breakker’s freakish strength feels like — apparently getting suplexed by him is less “wrestling move” and more “surprise teleportation.”
We hear about Joe suplexing nearly 500 pounds worth of human beings, breaking up a brawl at a friend’s wedding moments before police burst through the doors, his amateur wrestling background and why random people trying to test themselves against professional fighters is generally a terrible life choice.
Plus, Joe explains why seeing WWE live can turn even non-wrestling fans into believers, gives his ruling on whether the Loch Ness Monster exists, and discovers that wearing white pants on morning radio becomes especially dangerous when coffee is involved.
It’s wrestling, music, ridiculous injuries, St. Louis, Randy Orton’s suspicious cake consumption and another comedy podcast interview that somehow ends with us discussing interdimensional Scottish lake monsters.
Believe in Joe Hendry.
And believe that this comedy podcast had absolutely no chance of staying on topic.
