Gordon Willard Allport (November 11, 1897 – October 9, 1967) was an American psychologist. Allport was one of the first psychologists to focus on the study of the personality, and is often referred to as one of the founding figures of personality psychology. He contributed to the formation of values scales and rejected both a psychoanalytic approach to personality, which he thought often was too deeply interpretive, and a behavioral approach, which he thought did not provide deep enough interpretations from their data.
The Architecture of the Painted Lion
As a clinician, I spend a lot of time teaching people how to find their voice. For people-pleasers, over-functioners, and chronic “shrinkers,” this work is necessary, a part of the life mission we must face; otherwise we risk being a drifter in the loop. Many of us were conditioned to make oursel…
The Tourist Mirror: What International Visitors Teach Us About America
If you’ve spent any time on social media over the last few years, you know how heavy, divisive, and exhausting the digital landscape can feel. But recently, an unexpected breakthrough has been taking over our feeds: viral videos of international World Cup fans experiencing everyday American culture…
From Well-Being to Well-Doing: Brian Little on the Personal Projects That Shape Our Lives
In this episode, Andrew Soren of Eudaimonic by Design sits down with personality psychologist Brian Little for a conversation that moves from a mishelved library book to a hockey metaphor for performance reviews, and lands, more than once, on the difference between well-being and well-doing.
Brian'…
Can Sport Build Bridges - Or Burn Them?

Every sporting event has three kinds of people: those playing, those watching, and those running it. Are they all having the same experience of connection — or is being near someone quietly di…
Episode #46 - Us and Them. The Rise of Tribalism in Modern Life - Why We Sort Ourselves, What It Costs Us, and What It Could Give Us Back
We are tribal by nature. And right now, that nature is being pushed to its limits.
In this episode of The Better Humans Project, Greg Pfeiffer explores tribalism — not just in politics, but everywhere it shows up in modern life: in fashion and sport, in food and social media, in the communities we…
Why Selfish People Love to Use Religion to Hurt People
There is a type of person who will walk into a room full of strangers, start a fight, and then tell everyone they were attacked.
They will say something offensive on purpose. They will wait for the reaction. And then they will point to that reaction as proof that they are being persecuted.
This is …

How to Get Someone Out of a Cult
I have been wondering for a while now why it is so impossible to get people out of a cult outside of just being there for them when they get out.
So I decided to do some research on cult deprogramming and propaganda to see if there is a pattern here we can use to get people out of the MAGA cult.
An…
Why Trump Is Obsessed With Barack Obama
There is a question that has been sitting in the middle of American politics for twenty years and nobody has answered it honestly.
Why can’t Trump stop talking about Barack Obama.
Not occasionally. Not when it is politically relevant. Constantly. At rallies that have nothing to do with Obama. In in…
Why You Are Immune to Trump Cult
There are four psychological reasons. You probably have at least one of them.
I have been trying to understand this for years.
Why can I see so clearly what Trump is and yet 30 - 40 million Americans have fallen under his spell?
So I went back into the research on cults, authoritarian psychology, a…
