À PROPOS DE CET ÉPISODE
In The Count of Monte Cristo, the visit to the Morcerf household draws to a courteous close after the countess offers her heartfelt thanks.
Count de Morcerf departs for a debate at the Chamber, while the countess invites Monte Cristo to remain for the day. He politely declines, explaining that he has yet to settle into Paris after his arrival, though he graciously accepts the promise of a future visit. Albert then offers his own carriage, but Monte Cristo expresses confidence that his servant has already made the necessary arrangements.
The first meeting ends with perfect courtesy and carefully observed formalities.
