Be the Change
October 5, 2026 | Episode 5556
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Maybe you want to change your job, your relationship, or your whole life. Maybe you want to change the world. One truth sits under all of it. You have to change before anything else does.
Today is a purely motivational show, with Gandhi, Tolstoy, Einstein, Rumi, and Churchill along for the ride. I'll also get practical, because inspiration alone won't move you.
You'll hear why I'll risk getting fired to tell a client what they don't want to hear, and why the thing you grip tightest is holding you back. Let it go and start today.
Featured Story
When I started as a disc jockey, I was a shock jock. Listen to me back then and you'd notice something. I sounded the same as I do now. Same energy, same delivery.
What was different was my content, my goal, and my mission. And back then, it didn't work that well. I got in trouble all the time.
I didn't have to become a different person. I had to change what I was doing, not who I was. Every lesson from those days shaped the show you hear now. I changed, and my future got better because of it.
Important Points
* If you want a different world around you, you have to change your mind, your actions, and your daily choices first.
* The thing you hold onto the tightest is usually the exact thing holding you back, and you know it in your heart.
* Being who you are can be a strength, but if you're not getting what you want, something about you has to shift.
Memorable Quotes
* If you will not change before anything else, your world will not change, and you're really just in a fantasy world.
* The very thing that you don't want to change is what you must change. You know it in your heart, but you're a hard head.
* If you want this life to be well-lived, something has to change today, and that something is you. It really is.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Name the one thing you want to be different next year, whether it's more money, more service, or more happiness.
* Find the habit or belief you're gripping tightest around that goal, because it's likely the one holding you back.
* Let that grip go today, try one new way of thinking or acting, and repeat it until it becomes part of who you are.
