Insight: Minister Marcus Hall - The Man Behind the Kingdom Choice Awards in NYC
In this exclusive interview on "Insight," host Roger Moore travels to New York to sit down with Minister Marcus Hall, the founder of the Kingdom Choice Awards (KCA). Roger and Marcus discuss the history and purpose of the KCA, which has been a consistent platform for Christian hip hop for over two decades.
Marcus shares his personal journey from growing up in the UK to moving to the US, driven by a desire to make the gospel relatable to the urban generation. He talks about his early days doing street evangelism with a strategic approach, using "the freshest Jordans" to connect with people on their own terms. This led to the creation of Higher Calling, an outreach concert, and later, Kingdom Time Entertainment, a production company to support Christian hip hop artists.
The conversation dives deep into the challenges facing the Christian hip hop scene in New York, including the "glass ceiling" for artists and the financial pressures of operating in an expensive city. Marcus highlights the importance of partnerships, praising the collaboration with Holy Culture Radio and its reach to over five million subscribers via SiriusXM satellite radio. He emphasizes the need to end division and tribalism within the Christian community, advocating for unity and collaboration to advance the Kingdom.
Marcus also talks about the professionalism of the KCA team, their commitment to excellence, and the recent honor of receiving a proclamation from the mayor of New York City for his contributions. This interview is a powerful look at the history and future of urban gospel, celebrating a pioneer who has dedicated his life to serving the culture.
