SELLEST OSAST
In this solo episode of The Pintastic® Podcast, Laura Rike reframes how you think about Pinterest boards. They're not storage folders, they're search signals that tell Pinterest who you are and what you help people with. Laura walks through how to name boards using Pinterest's actual idea categories, why descriptions are free real estate most people leave blank, the group board myth that needs to die, and how to use secret boards without burning your fresh pin signal.
Key Takeaways:
Boards Are Search Signals, Not Storage: Pinterest reads your board structure like a library reads its shelving system. Clear, specific boards hand Pinterest a clean map. Cutesy or vague names hand it a mess it can't share with searchers.
Name Boards Using Pinterest's Idea Categories: Go to pinterest.com/ideas and match your board titles to the actual categories Pinterest uses. Save the long-tail keywords and personality for your pin titles and descriptions.
Board Descriptions Are Free Real Estate: Most people leave them blank. Write keyword-rich sentences describing what the board is, who it's for, and what it helps with. A title plus description hands Pinterest a clean label to index against.
Group Boards Aren't Required: The algorithm gives them no special priority. Any boost is usually vanity metrics like monthly views, not traffic or sales. If yours still drive clicks in your data, keep them. Otherwise, you're allowed to say no.
Use Secret Boards for Personal Stuff, Not Drafting: Keep personal interests on secret boards so they don't muddy your business signal. Never stage business pins there first. The moment you pin it, you burn the fresh pin signal.
