Suspense #632, "Two Platinum Capsules," presents a harrowing race against time when deadly radioactive capsules go missing from a California hospital. At Middle Branch Hospital, Dr. Carl Hutter and nurses Helen Webster and Elsie Burton discover that two platinum capsules filled with radium have vanished from the locked safe in room 222. As suspicion briefly falls on Miss Webster and her fiancé, Dr. Perry, the hospital prepares to search the building with a Geiger counter. Meanwhile, completely unaware of the danger, eleven-year-old Johnny Murphy and his friend Peter explore the city's new dump site at an old gravel pit. Johnny's father George, a part-time uranium prospector struggling to make payments on his own Geiger counter, rests at home after a fruitless prospecting trip.
The two storylines converge ominously as the boys innocently poke through discarded items at the dump, while hospital officials frantically try to locate the lethal capsules before someone handles them without realizing the deadly radiation they emit. Based on a true incident, this taut thriller builds mounting tension as the search intensifies and time runs out.
