According to the National Science Foundation's 2026 State of U.S. Science and Engineering, only 47 percent of Black public-high-school students attended schools offering the full range of mathematics, science and computer-science courses examined by the agency, compared with 55 percent of White students and 69 percent of Asian students. Black students constituted 15 percent of high-school enrollment but only 8 percent of AP science enrollment and 6 percent of AP mathematics enrollment. These and other facts matter.
