Greg Davis sits down with David Perry, Republican candidate for Alabama’s 7th Congressional District, ahead of Tuesday’s August 11 special Republican primary.
Perry makes his case for change in a district stretching from Birmingham and Tuscaloosa deep into Alabama’s Black Belt and southwest Alabama. He discusses his campaign’s focus on economic development, infrastructure, education, healthcare, public safety and criminal justice reform.
Perry also shares his personal connection to the district, including his roots in Selma and Perry County, and explains why he believes the district’s persistent poverty, deteriorating infrastructure, hospital closures and lack of access to basic services require a different approach to congressional representation.
The conversation also explores Perry’s identity as an African American Republican running in a heavily Democratic district, his Christian convictions, and his appeal to Christian voters to become more engaged in the political process.
With Tuesday’s primary determining the Republican nominee who will face longtime Democratic incumbent Terri Sewell in November, Perry argues that District 7 is capable of political change—and asks voters to give him the opportunity to lead that effort.
