What is creativity?
In this episode of Creative Difference, Maxime Gabella speaks with Alex Carter, Associate Professor of Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Cambridge, about creativity as “serious play.”
Drawing on philosophy, education, literature, humor, and childhood development, they explore why creativity resists definition, how constraints can stimulate originality, why children engage so naturally in make-believe, and what adults often lose as they grow older.
The conversation ranges from Nietzsche, Picasso, and Georges Perec to imagination, learning, knowledge, and the role of play in human life.
Recorded at EduFest Le Rosey.
