In June 2021, the Murdaugh story began unraveling at lightning speed. Just three days after Paul and Maggie were murdered, autopsies were performed — and Alec’s father, Randolph Murdaugh III, died the very same day. Interviews with Buster, Randy, and John Marvin followed, each pointing to intense harassment tied to the boat crash and the death of Stephen Smith.
Funerals came one after another. Media coverage exploded. And SLED returned to Moselle, collecting ammunition consistent with what was found at the crime scene.
On June 22nd, journalist Mandy Matney launched her podcast, claiming five deaths were tied to the Murdaugh family — including Mallory Beach, housekeeper Gloria Satterfield, and 19‑year‑old Stephen Smith. That same day, SLED reopened Stephen’s case, previously ruled a hit‑and‑run. But the evidence, including paint chips, injuries, and scene details, continues to raise questions.
Meanwhile, Alec and Buster offered a $100,000 reward for information about the murders. SLED kept investigating, releasing a heavily redacted 911 call six weeks later — fueling speculation and media firestorms.
By August 11th, Alec sat down with lead investigator David Owen, unaware he was now a suspect. The kennel video placed Alec at the scene minutes before the murders, contradicting his earlier statements. When asked directly if he killed Maggie and Paul, Alec denied it — but investigators said the evidence pointed only one direction.
This episode breaks down the full timeline: the autopsies, the funerals, the media pressure, the reopened investigations, the DNA findings, the redactions, and the interview that shifted Alec from grieving husband to official suspect.
