San Quentin prison is not exactly an easy place to get out of. But in 1956, a group of inmates managed to do it in spectacular fashion.
When four men steal a plane and break out of a San Quentin work camp, the story immediately makes headlines. How did they manage to fly the aircraft?
More importantly: Where in the world did they go?
The missing plane is just the beginning.
This is a story filled with forehead-smacking twists and turns that will make you wonder how the inmates got as far as they did. (And maybe, secretly, will have you rooting for them the whole time.)
Even better, an archived photo shows how this incident is really a window into a unique time in the American prison system.
This is an incredible story of fight, flight, and four improbable criminals who defied the odds and managed the escape of the century.
