The Washington Commanders head to London for a huge Week 4 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, and Sean Anderson breaks down his optimal, suboptimal and realistic outcomes for the game. Washington enters this matchup looking to build on its impressive Week 3 win over the Seattle Seahawks and get back to .500. Sean believes a Commanders win is a very realistic outcome. But what would Washington need to do to make it happen? First, Sean wants to see the Commanders' defense hold Indianapolis to 20 points or fewer. Washington's defense made significant strides against Seattle, and Sean believes this is an opportunity to continue building momentum. The second key is the rushing attack. Sean's optimal outcome is 150 rushing yards against a Colts defense that has allowed more than 140 rushing yards per game. Even if Washington doesn't reach that number, he believes running for 100 yards would give the Commanders a strong chance to win. Marcus Mariota is another major key. After an impressive performance against Seattle, Sean wants Mariota to contribute at least two touchdowns without turning the ball over. A significant regression from Mariota could create a much more difficult situation for Washington. Sean also wants the Commanders to start fast. He believes Indianapolis is a patient team that wants to use Jonathan Taylor and the running game to gradually wear opponents down. If Washington can score early and force the Colts into a one-dimensional offense, the Commanders can put themselves in control. But there are several things that could go wrong. Washington cannot afford to sleepwalk through the first quarter in London. The Commanders also cannot allow the Colts' struggling defense to suddenly have its best performance of the season. And perhaps most importantly, Washington cannot allow another tight end to dominate its defense. The Commanders have already surrendered five touchdowns to tight ends this season, and Tyler Warren is one of the most athletic tight ends Washington has faced. Sean's realistic outcome is a Washington victory that gets the Commanders back to .500 and potentially sets the stage for Jayden Daniels' return. He also believes Stefan Diggs and Antonio Williams could have big games against Indianapolis' secondary, while Tyler Warren finding the end zone once is a realistic possibility. Could Daniel Jones also use his legs to score? Can Washington's defense continue its improvement? Will Marcus Mariota deliver another strong performance? And can the Commanders run the football against one of the NFL's weakest rushing defenses? Sean Anderson breaks down everything Washington needs to do to beat the Colts in London.
