Speaker 1: Live from Cromwell Hammer's HQ ahead of the big ren Failly Shield game against Otago this afternoon, and still writing Shotgun is head coach Matt Winter looking forward to painting those sidelines green and gold. I've heard there's been about over five thousand tickets sold. I wouldn't be surprised if half of them are Mid Cantabrians. Every second person are bumped into this week is coming. Yeah.
00:00:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got a bit of a reality check yesterday at the grounds and the captains one. Apparently the number of tickets sold isn't as high as we first thought. But by the sounds of the amount of people coming down, I think that'll fill up pretty quickly. But yeah, we've we've always been well supported and that hasn't changed now it's been pretty surreal. Like you said, you talk to somebody and they're either coming down or they know somebody's coming down, So lu give you a bit of heart.
00:00:42
Speaker 1: Oh, it's also boost.
00:00:44
Speaker 2: That genuinely is like you can't understate how much or what that sort of support does to give you an extra lift.
00:00:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's got a fam here.
00:00:52
Speaker 2: Yep, yep, yep, Mum, dad, wife, two kids starring Alexander, its sister, brother in law, nephews.
00:00:57
Speaker 1: Yeah, they'll be making noise. Yep. So haven't look over the team sheet. And you've mentioned there's a real balance of experience and youth. Why don't we start with the former there Edam the Fridge Williamson, he's coming off the bench.
00:01:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Well, these sorts of games, they're not won in the first twenty thirty minutes that they're won the last twenty thirty minutes.
00:01:18
Speaker 1: So he's your bomb squad.
00:01:20
Speaker 2: Well, no, we don't call it that.
00:01:21
Speaker 1: We call it he's just rolled in there is. He's an early rise of too. And look at that jersey from what the seventeenth century or something. That's a collector's item. Yeah, yeah, Fridgie's a collected we call it.
00:01:37
Speaker 2: We call it the second wave. We call it the second wave. And that's you know, our first wave go over and they do an awesome job and a pretty impoinant job, and then that second wave comes in and brings it home. So if Fridg you'll be letting that be a big part of what happens that back into the game.
00:01:51
Speaker 1: The river Men have been rewarded with their waters Cup efforts. I see there's five required club players in the side and also five potential new caps. That's exciting. What a game to debut.
00:02:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Welcome to Heartland, fuddy Well, Welcome in mid Canbry footy. Go win a shield. Everyone deserves to be there. Lo, everyone's in their spot. I'm pretty excited to give those fellows an opportunity. And I think I've mentioned it a couple of times to you, but you know, it's the calder of the side probably speaks more volumes about what's been left out and what's been put So.
00:02:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, someone who we hope to catch up with before ten o'clock and we're lucky enough to have him for one more game is mcg McGregor best, who's been awfully instrumental. So he's been on loan from the christ Church scene and he lives in New Brighton, correct. So that alone, the commitment of driving at least two nights a week for training and then showing up for the game days as well, helped us win that meets cup last year. Sadly we're not going to have him back for this year's season, but he is here for the Shield game. Yeah.
00:02:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been awesome. To be ab because he hasn't been able to commit for the full season, which feart he's got family reasons and other things going on, which is fair enough. So initially he said, not to worry about the Shield challenge, but we just had a few holes here with other loan players playing club finals and crisis and that sort of thing. So to be able to call them back and got on the phone till a couple of weeks ago and he said, yeah, be there in a heartbeat sort of thing.
00:03:19
Speaker 1: So this is a Blazer game. He got a Blazer presenter last night. What's that mean?
00:03:23
Speaker 2: Ah, So that's for seven En games, so seventeen games, so two full seasons. Ah, you get a Blazer for a presentia mid Canary. So yeah, it's a good thing. Obviously pretty special to get one game, but we'll not get seventeen or more. So Yeah, someone that has been on truly earned that and learned that on her and to be able to give that to him last night was pretty special.
