Newspapers
Emma’s topic for Emma Explores this month is Newspapers, and specifically what she’s discovered about her own family from print publications. In our 24 episodes for Projectkin, Emma’s previously touched on print, but that was in the context of William Edward Cox (1809-1879) and his career in publishing and advertising:
Or her discussion of a society wedding with powerful newspaper-found tidbits from her personal publication:
This time, we’ll focus on using newspapers and magazines in your research. We’ll cover where to find them, what to look for, how to store what you find, and, importantly, how not to get lost!
Emma will also treat us to a few surprises from her family tree, plus techniques and resources you can use in your own research.
About Emma Cox
If you’re not already familiar with Emma’s work, she’s one of the most generous networkers in the genealogy community in the UK. She also hosts a fantastic podcast, Journeys Into Genealogy. Having recently celebrated her 100,000th download, she's in high demand for major events like RootsTech and this month’s All About That Place series from the Society of Genealogists.
In her most recent episode, she interviews Jude Rhodes, Phil Astley, and Nicholas Dixon about the ten-day series that debuted on October 1st. Learn more in her publication:
Join Us Thursday
Like all of our Emma Explores programs, today’s preview takes us to the full presentation next week. We host these on Zoom so that we can get to know each other and discuss the implications of Emma’s presentation in our own research and history.
