partly clotdie skyes are loan near fifty six. Coming up next,

37
00:02:00.120 --> 00:02:02.319
I'm Tom Susman and welcome to the valley today on
38
00:02:02.519 --> 00:02:05.599
WM O V. And as we're coming to the end
39
00:02:05.680 --> 00:02:09.039
of harvest season, people's gardens are just about done. There
40
00:02:09.039 --> 00:02:11.159
may still be a few people with some tomato plants
41
00:02:11.199 --> 00:02:13.240
and some corn to come out, but it would be
42
00:02:13.240 --> 00:02:15.520
good to talk with Evan Wilson. And Evan is the
43
00:02:15.560 --> 00:02:19.840
cooperative Extension agent for WU and Mason County. And Evan
44
00:02:20.000 --> 00:02:23.240
is people have home gardens and we're coming to the end.
45
00:02:23.599 --> 00:02:27.000
What should people be doing to prepare themselves for the
46
00:02:27.039 --> 00:02:29.919
winter and and for planning next spring.
47
00:02:30.080 --> 00:02:33.120
It's been pretty dry late second half of this summer,
48
00:02:33.360 --> 00:02:36.199
not as dry as last year, thankfully, but our gardener
49
00:02:36.159 --> 00:02:38.039
and needles aren't looking for what kind of plants are
50
00:02:38.039 --> 00:02:40.159
looking for next year? And as they start to clean
51
00:02:40.199 --> 00:02:42.759
out their gardens this fall, make sure they remove any
52
00:02:42.759 --> 00:02:46.360
of the debris the left their tomato plants, cornstalks, whatever's
53
00:02:46.360 --> 00:02:49.000
in there. Get that out there, because that letover material
54
00:02:49.039 --> 00:02:51.879
can actually harbor a lot of diseases and bacteriaes and tests.
55
00:02:51.879 --> 00:02:53.360
We don't want our garden in the next spring.
56
00:02:53.560 --> 00:02:55.520
You don't plow those under, you pull them up and
57
00:02:55.520 --> 00:02:56.280
get them out of there.
58
00:02:56.439 --> 00:02:56.639
Yeah.
59
00:02:56.719 --> 00:02:59.879
Yeah, as long as plants need to come out, they
60
00:03:00.000 --> 00:03:01.719
can harbor a lot of nasty stuff. We just don't
61
00:03:01.719 --> 00:03:03.520
want to have a bad start for next spring. And
62
00:03:03.520 --> 00:03:04.800
there's also a good time of a year to go
63
00:03:04.919 --> 00:03:07.960
and start soil testing those garden gardens so you can
64
00:03:07.960 --> 00:03:09.599
know what kind of fertilizer or a line you might
65
00:03:09.639 --> 00:03:11.240
need going into the next spring as well.
66
00:03:11.319 --> 00:03:14.759
Now, should you plow that up once you've pulled those plans,
67
00:03:14.759 --> 00:03:17.280
should you put another yeah, crop on there, or what
68
00:03:17.280 --> 00:03:17.800
should you do?
69
00:03:17.879 --> 00:03:19.520
Yeah, you could do a fall crop, but some of
70
00:03:19.520 --> 00:03:21.199
our cold crops you can put in there in the fall.
71
00:03:21.280 --> 00:03:23.680
If you're not going to do that, you can till
72
00:03:23.759 --> 00:03:26.439
that up and then put a cover crops, some clover,
73
00:03:26.680 --> 00:03:28.960
some winter weat something on there to help with some
74
00:03:29.000 --> 00:03:32.039
erosion control. And also when you go back in the spring,
75
00:03:32.120 --> 00:03:34.120
you can mow that until that back down in there
76
00:03:34.639 --> 00:03:37.400
and the soil and increases your organic matter and well
77
00:03:37.479 --> 00:03:42.520
over time it increase your soil's ability to hold water.
78
00:03:42.680 --> 00:03:45.240
Now, for farmers, and hay crops. This year, has it
79
00:03:45.280 --> 00:03:46.960
been a better year than last year?
80
00:03:48.039 --> 00:03:51.199
Yes, last year was all time low. Much better this
81
00:03:51.280 --> 00:03:52.960
year We've got several a bunch of people got their
82
00:03:52.960 --> 00:03:55.520
second cuttings. Last year people got maybe one one and
83
00:03:55.560 --> 00:03:58.400
a half cuttings of their hay off the field. So yeah,
84
00:03:58.439 --> 00:04:00.520
this is here's a whole lot better. But for our
85
00:04:00.560 --> 00:04:02.599
hay producers, be right now, I get time to start
86
00:04:02.639 --> 00:04:05.280
testing that hey they've got bailed, to get those off
87
00:04:05.319 --> 00:04:07.120
to the labs, to come back and figure out, okay,
88
00:04:07.520 --> 00:04:10.120
what is the nutritional value of my hey? Because not
89
00:04:10.199 --> 00:04:11.759
all hey is created equal, and.
90
00:04:12.400 --> 00:04:15.599
So once you have that analysis, then does that help
91
00:04:15.639 --> 00:04:18.879
you figure out what supplements you'll need for your cattle
92
00:04:19.199 --> 00:04:21.720
for the winter time and the other livestock exactly?
93
00:04:21.759 --> 00:04:23.720
And it can also help you figure out, okay, which
94
00:04:23.720 --> 00:04:26.079
hey do any of feed earlier in the winter, later
95
00:04:26.120 --> 00:04:27.639
in the winter, what kind of hey it needs to
96
00:04:27.639 --> 00:04:30.839
go to my coals, my dry cows, my stalkers. You're steered,
97
00:04:30.839 --> 00:04:32.920
you've got the bar you're have for you've retained.
98
00:04:32.839 --> 00:04:35.199
And when we come back, we'll continue our discussion with
99
00:04:35.240 --> 00:04:38.759
Evan Wilson, extension agent for Mason County.

117
00:05:38.879 --> 00:05:41.160
I'm Tom Susman, Welcome back to the Valley today and
118
00:05:41.199 --> 00:05:44.639
we're talking with Evan Wilson who's the cooperative Extension agent
119
00:05:44.720 --> 00:05:48.240
for WVU for Mason County. As dry as it is,
120
00:05:48.639 --> 00:05:51.000
are there things that folks should be doing to prepare
121
00:05:51.040 --> 00:05:54.399
themselves in case there's not a lot of water, you know,
122
00:05:54.600 --> 00:05:55.639
in a month or two.
123
00:05:55.720 --> 00:05:58.720
Last year are conservation districts. In rcs, folks, they work
124
00:05:58.759 --> 00:06:01.079
really hard to getting resources out to people in preparation
125
00:06:01.319 --> 00:06:02.920
of the drought we had last year as more of
126
00:06:02.959 --> 00:06:05.759
a crisis management situation. But it's always a good idea
127
00:06:05.759 --> 00:06:08.040
to start rotating your livestock to give them the new forages.
128
00:06:08.120 --> 00:06:11.279
That increases your ability to graze throughout the year. And
129
00:06:11.720 --> 00:06:14.199
a lot of hindrance people have is lack of fens
130
00:06:14.279 --> 00:06:16.160
lack of water, and don't just the lack of no
131
00:06:16.279 --> 00:06:18.319
water at all, just lack of water point.
132
00:06:18.120 --> 00:06:18.600
They can get to.
133
00:06:18.920 --> 00:06:21.759
We could start implementing more rotational grazing, increase our water
134
00:06:21.800 --> 00:06:24.399
points throughout our pastures and our paddocks, or even grazing
135
00:06:24.439 --> 00:06:26.160
some of the hay ground that there will help in
136
00:06:26.160 --> 00:06:28.720
the long run as people start worrying about water as
137
00:06:29.040 --> 00:06:31.040
we go, because it is getting drier longer now.
138
00:06:31.319 --> 00:06:33.920
In terms of the beef crop, it seems like are
139
00:06:33.920 --> 00:06:36.480
the beef livestock. It seems like our prices are holding
140
00:06:36.480 --> 00:06:38.000
pretty good on beef right now, aren't they.
141
00:06:38.120 --> 00:06:40.600
Yes, right now, the markets are at all time highs
142
00:06:40.600 --> 00:06:43.040
across the country, and there's a lot of different reasons
143
00:06:43.079 --> 00:06:45.360
for that. But speaking of that notion, if people are
144
00:06:45.399 --> 00:06:48.000
keeping heifers and red animals over throughout the winter, now
145
00:06:48.040 --> 00:06:49.399
it would be a good time to get those cows
146
00:06:49.439 --> 00:06:51.480
break checked by vet to make sure they have a
147
00:06:51.480 --> 00:06:52.879
calf in them, because you don't want to come back
148
00:06:52.920 --> 00:06:55.279
in January or March and your fality's cap over the
149
00:06:55.319 --> 00:06:56.800
winter didn't have a calf in them at all, and
150
00:06:56.839 --> 00:06:58.639
you've just had a bunch of a bunch of empty
151
00:06:58.639 --> 00:07:01.319
cows all winter when you sold them for several thousand dollars.
152
00:07:01.360 --> 00:07:02.959
Right now, what's it going for a pound?
153
00:07:03.160 --> 00:07:05.639
Going for a pound? It really depends. I've seen from
154
00:07:05.639 --> 00:07:07.319
three to six dollars a pound, depend on what size
155
00:07:07.360 --> 00:07:09.120
the cattle you what sized cattle you've got. It just
156
00:07:09.199 --> 00:07:11.040
all time highs right now is a great time to sell.
157
00:07:11.120 --> 00:07:12.480
May'll be the best time to buy a cattle.
158
00:07:12.600 --> 00:07:15.720
That is really probably the conundrum for farmers is do
159
00:07:15.800 --> 00:07:17.839
I sell now and then you know I make a
160
00:07:17.839 --> 00:07:20.120
good piece of change. But then if I need cattle
161
00:07:20.199 --> 00:07:22.199
in the spring, are I'm just gonna have to even
162
00:07:22.199 --> 00:07:22.720
pay more.
163
00:07:23.000 --> 00:07:25.120
Right, And we had a specialist from Oklahoma State on
164
00:07:25.120 --> 00:07:27.000
a meeting a couple of years ago, and he was
165
00:07:27.160 --> 00:07:30.839
preaching then for our producers, retain your heifers because those
166
00:07:30.839 --> 00:07:32.879
half for that half for value just going to get
167
00:07:32.920 --> 00:07:35.480
higher and high and hire retaining heifers. This past this
168
00:07:35.600 --> 00:07:38.000
these past two years has been really difficult for producers
169
00:07:38.040 --> 00:07:40.199
to justify with what the cattle price market is. It
170

Other companies will try to lure you in with the

Hello, it's Michael Susan here with your look at Sports,

brought to you by Main Street Furniture and Flooring in Middleports.
276
00:13:04.879 --> 00:13:05.480
W m OV.
277
00:13:05.679 --> 00:13:09.000
Wj H was on site at Mylon Pushguard Stadium Saturday
278
00:13:09.200 --> 00:13:12.320
to witness wu's thirty one to twenty four overtime went
279
00:13:12.360 --> 00:13:15.240
over Pitt in the one hundred and eighth backyard Brawl.
280
00:13:15.440 --> 00:13:18.240
Here's what WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez had to say
281
00:13:18.279 --> 00:13:20.360
when I asked him about the importance of this win
282
00:13:20.480 --> 00:13:21.799
to the people of the Mountain State.
283
00:13:22.080 --> 00:13:23.080
Coach, what does it mean to.
284
00:13:23.000 --> 00:13:25.039
Share this win with the people of West Virginia.
285
00:13:26.360 --> 00:13:29.639
Yeah, I think I said it to probably a little
286
00:13:29.679 --> 00:13:31.759
more emotional than I wanted to be, but to the
287
00:13:31.840 --> 00:13:34.080
TV thing on the field that you know, this this
288
00:13:34.200 --> 00:13:37.840
state is full of hard working, gritty, tough people that
289
00:13:38.720 --> 00:13:41.759
support this university, support this football program.
290
00:13:41.360 --> 00:13:45.039
And winning is important to him. And I know beating
291
00:13:45.080 --> 00:13:45.600
Pitt is.
292
00:13:45.559 --> 00:13:47.759
Really impor I mean, caught my really really important to him,
293
00:13:47.799 --> 00:13:50.720
you know. And so if you ask anybody in our state,
294
00:13:50.879 --> 00:13:53.000
you know it's a West Virginia fans say, Okay, pick
295
00:13:53.039 --> 00:13:55.399
a team you want to beat or who you hate
296
00:13:55.519 --> 00:13:57.440
and maybe not supposed to hate. But anyway, here's a
297
00:13:57.440 --> 00:13:59.960
lot a little bit of hate. But they'll say pit
298
00:14:00.399 --> 00:14:02.360
So I know if you saw, you mean, how the
299
00:14:02.399 --> 00:14:05.000
crowd was into it today, even we weren't playing well times,
300
00:14:05.039 --> 00:14:07.440
they made a big difference in overtime, They made a
301
00:14:07.440 --> 00:14:10.799
big difference in certain law third and fourth downs, and
302
00:14:10.799 --> 00:14:13.080
then they played a part in that's winning.
303
00:14:13.480 --> 00:14:16.399
It's Rich Rodriguez. It was a roller coaster game for
304
00:14:16.519 --> 00:14:20.080
Mountaineer quarterback Nico markiol Nico was benched at the beginning
305
00:14:20.080 --> 00:14:22.440
of the third quarter, but would return in the fourth.
306
00:14:22.679 --> 00:14:24.879
Man went on to lead a pair of scoring drives,
307
00:14:24.919 --> 00:14:27.720
most notably in eighty seven yard march down the field
308
00:14:27.720 --> 00:14:30.440
to force overtime at the end of regulation. Mark Yoll
309
00:14:30.480 --> 00:14:32.720
on his mind set through it all, what's going through
310
00:14:32.720 --> 00:14:35.399
your head when coach goes to Scottie and Jalen and that,
311
00:14:35.519 --> 00:14:37.720
what did it take to kind of regather yourself and
312
00:14:38.000 --> 00:14:39.039
go back in and perform?
313
00:14:39.200 --> 00:14:39.559
Yeah?
314
00:14:39.639 --> 00:14:42.519
Yeah, Coach had talked earlier in the week about you know,
315
00:14:42.840 --> 00:14:45.799
multiple guys playing this week, and you know, I mean,
316
00:14:45.840 --> 00:14:49.000
that's it's something that has not not been a part
317
00:14:49.000 --> 00:14:51.279
of my future as a college quarterback, you know, up
318
00:14:51.399 --> 00:14:53.600
until now. So, I mean I'm used to. I'm used
319
00:14:53.600 --> 00:14:55.639
to how that goes. But you know they got you know,
320
00:14:55.679 --> 00:14:57.879
they got their their time in and then you know,
321
00:14:57.919 --> 00:15:00.519
when my number was called again, there was just one
322
00:15:00.559 --> 00:15:02.320
go in mine. It's just go and win the football game,
323
00:15:02.360 --> 00:15:05.639
someway somehow. But now not a lot changes for me.
324
00:15:05.759 --> 00:15:07.600
Not a lot goes through my mind. You know, you
325
00:15:07.879 --> 00:15:10.759
the minute you get distracted and you start filming sorry
326
00:15:10.799 --> 00:15:12.639
for yourself, start filming back for yourself, that's when you
327
00:15:12.679 --> 00:15:15.080
got no chance. So you know, I knew there was
328
00:15:15.399 --> 00:15:16.440
my time was going to come again.
329
00:15:16.679 --> 00:15:20.000
That's WVU quarterback Nico Markiel. It was a breakout game
330
00:15:20.039 --> 00:15:22.919
for Mountaineer running back Tye Edwards, who rushed for one
331
00:15:22.960 --> 00:15:25.960
hundred and forty one yards and three touchdowns. Edwards just
332
00:15:26.039 --> 00:15:29.240
recently joined the active roster due to a previous NCAA
333
00:15:29.360 --> 00:15:32.240
eligibility injunction, so it's been on the squad since August,
334
00:15:32.320 --> 00:15:34.000
and took advantage of the opportunity.
335
00:15:34.120 --> 00:15:36.039
I had a good spirit throughout the whole experience, and
336
00:15:36.399 --> 00:15:40.159
I took the not plan and just waiting on guy's calling.
337
00:15:40.320 --> 00:15:43.519
So I feel like when my name's called whenever he
338
00:15:43.639 --> 00:15:46.120
called me, that's when I'm prepared and ready to the
339
00:15:46.159 --> 00:15:47.440
splay to the world what I can do.

When we think about substance, Eustace or in West Virginia,
363
00:17:01.320 --> 00:17:05.400
we need everyone to come together and motivate change. Artists
364
00:17:05.440 --> 00:17:08.359
and recovery activists throughout the state have teamed up to
365
00:17:08.440 --> 00:17:12.680
paint murals that inspire hard conversations. It may seem small,
366
00:17:12.880 --> 00:17:15.839
but everyone played a role in breaking through stigma and
367
00:17:15.880 --> 00:17:19.920
turning these murals into something vibrant and meaningful. When it
368
00:17:19.960 --> 00:17:22.480
comes to how we think about recovery, it takes all

595
00:28:58.480 --> 00:29:01.920
I'm Tom Sasman. Welcome to the Today on WMV. In
596
00:29:02.039 --> 00:29:05.119
this past Saturday, it was the Battle of the Bridge
597
00:29:05.160 --> 00:29:09.119
over at Riverside Golf Course. It pitted nine high school
598
00:29:09.160 --> 00:29:13.039
golf teams from Ohio against nine high school golf teams
599
00:29:13.079 --> 00:29:16.160
from West Virginia. The event was organized by Randy Pierce,
600
00:29:16.160 --> 00:29:19.200
who's the head coach of the Wahama White Falcon team
601
00:29:19.359 --> 00:29:22.480
and coach Ingles, his assistant coach. Well, first talk with
602
00:29:22.519 --> 00:29:25.279
coach Ingles and then we'll talk with Randy York. What
603
00:29:25.319 --> 00:29:26.640
are you guys doing well.
604
00:29:27.079 --> 00:29:30.119
This is our fifth annual Battle of the Bridge. We
605
00:29:30.279 --> 00:29:34.400
have eighteen teams this year coming nine from the TVC
606
00:29:34.559 --> 00:29:37.960
Conference which is in Ohio and nine from the LKAC Conference,
607
00:29:37.960 --> 00:29:40.920
which is the conference we're in currently here.
608
00:29:40.640 --> 00:29:42.680
That is in West Virginia, so we.
609
00:29:42.680 --> 00:29:46.920
Kind of pitt Ohio and West Virginia together on the
610
00:29:46.920 --> 00:29:47.480
golf course.
611
00:29:47.559 --> 00:29:48.759
So it's a real fun event.
612
00:29:48.920 --> 00:29:51.400
The cool thing about this event is we got teams
613
00:29:51.480 --> 00:29:54.440
like we got Doddridge County from a couple of hours away.
614
00:29:54.640 --> 00:29:58.119
They're playing a team from Waterford. Waterford teams that they
615
00:29:58.160 --> 00:30:02.319
would never ever get to to play in a competition,
616
00:30:02.559 --> 00:30:03.400
so this is nice.
617
00:30:03.599 --> 00:30:04.759
They get to meet new people.
618
00:30:05.799 --> 00:30:08.000
Ol Case is kind of partners in this where we've
619
00:30:08.000 --> 00:30:11.960
always been playing against each other. So again, real fun event.
620
00:30:12.359 --> 00:30:13.079
Kids love it.
621
00:30:13.279 --> 00:30:15.880
We've got coaches in early May. I want to know
622
00:30:15.920 --> 00:30:17.640
what date we're having to Battle of the Bridge because
623
00:30:17.799 --> 00:30:19.039
they want to come and participate.
624
00:30:19.119 --> 00:30:21.680
So a lot of good lessons for these students too
625
00:30:21.720 --> 00:30:24.440
on the golf course. I mean football, basketball is great,
626
00:30:24.440 --> 00:30:27.279
it's team sport, but this is a team sport, but
627
00:30:27.319 --> 00:30:28.720
it's also an individual sport.
628
00:30:28.880 --> 00:30:31.880
Oh, golf is great. Golf is something that you can
629
00:30:31.920 --> 00:30:33.599
play the rest of your life. I mean, some of
630
00:30:33.640 --> 00:30:36.680
my best memories I've had is playing golf with my
631
00:30:36.759 --> 00:30:40.759
father growing up and and me as a father playing
632
00:30:40.759 --> 00:30:43.359
with my son who plays at Ryan Grant now playing
633
00:30:43.359 --> 00:30:45.599
with him. So it's a great competition.
634
00:30:45.920 --> 00:30:47.599
Golf any age.
635
00:30:47.319 --> 00:30:49.559
Can play and compete with any age.
636
00:30:49.599 --> 00:30:52.319
So yeah, and I'm with Randy Pierce, who's coach of
637
00:30:52.319 --> 00:30:55.079
the Wuhamma golf team, and this is his event. Tell
638
00:30:55.119 --> 00:30:56.000
me what we're doing, coach.
639
00:30:56.079 --> 00:30:58.319
Hey, Yeah, this is our fifth year doing the Battle
640
00:30:58.319 --> 00:31:00.960
of the Bridge. This is where we pair up TVC
641
00:31:01.119 --> 00:31:04.039
teams from across the river in Ohio against the OKC
642
00:31:04.200 --> 00:31:07.319
here in West Virginia. And this is towards the louder
643
00:31:07.359 --> 00:31:09.880
part of the seasons for both these conferences.
644
00:31:09.920 --> 00:31:11.480
So we put this.
645
00:31:11.480 --> 00:31:13.359
This is kind of the brainchild of me and coach
646
00:31:13.400 --> 00:31:16.599
of York. And when we put this together, we're heading
647
00:31:16.599 --> 00:31:19.720
into regional play for both sides of the state, and
648
00:31:19.759 --> 00:31:21.880
we thought, let's get the kids together and have some
649
00:31:22.240 --> 00:31:24.640
fun and competition at the same time. This year, we
650
00:31:24.720 --> 00:31:28.319
got nine teams on the TV TVC side and nine teams.
651
00:31:28.079 --> 00:31:30.960
On the OKC side. That's a pretty good SAZ tournament.
652
00:31:30.960 --> 00:31:32.720
I mean it's probably one of the bigger tournaments outside
653
00:31:32.720 --> 00:31:33.680
of like States. Yeah.
654
00:31:33.680 --> 00:31:35.880
Absolutely, it is some of the callaway events at the
655
00:31:35.880 --> 00:31:37.680
beginning of the year that West Virginia puts on.
656
00:31:38.279 --> 00:31:40.440
We'll have that amount of teams or so.
657
00:31:40.559 --> 00:31:43.920
But yeah, we got that amount of teams, eighteen teams
658
00:31:43.920 --> 00:31:45.000
the total ninety golfers.
659
00:31:45.000 --> 00:31:47.279
So it'll be fun. When we come back. We'll continue
660
00:31:47.319 --> 00:31:48.119
our coverage.
661
00:31:48.720 --> 00:31:52.680
It's the saucy summer of barbecue at Tutors tender pulled

That is a grand slam for miguel a New Hard

The Battle of the Bridge that was held this past
677
00:32:51.200 --> 00:32:54.680
Saturday at Riverside Golf Course. I'm Tom Susman. Welcome back
678
00:32:54.680 --> 00:32:56.680
to the valley today, and now we'll hear from two
679
00:32:56.720 --> 00:33:00.920
golf coaches who talk about their experiences with golf and
680
00:33:01.000 --> 00:33:04.400
the fact that students learn lessons from playing golf.
681
00:33:05.480 --> 00:33:07.799
Hey, I'm coach Kendall from Run County.
682
00:33:08.640 --> 00:33:12.799
What's some of the lessons kids learn in playing golf? Honesty?
683
00:33:13.519 --> 00:33:17.920
I mean there's no there's rules officials. We have rules officials,
684
00:33:18.079 --> 00:33:20.119
but they're out there on their own. They go go
685
00:33:20.160 --> 00:33:22.799
out there as a gentleman's game. They're out there playing
686
00:33:22.799 --> 00:33:24.880
a game that they need to be honest with ourselves
687
00:33:25.039 --> 00:33:27.400
and with their team and what the other members are
688
00:33:27.440 --> 00:33:27.920
playing with.
689
00:33:28.759 --> 00:33:31.519
What's some of your most favorite golf memories for.
690
00:33:31.640 --> 00:33:35.400
State championships twelve, thirteen, fourteen to fifteen. Hope for a
691
00:33:35.440 --> 00:33:37.720
repeat someday someday.
692
00:33:38.039 --> 00:33:41.319
All right, well, thank you very much. All right. Can
693
00:33:41.359 --> 00:33:42.000
you tell me your name?
694
00:33:42.240 --> 00:33:44.200
My name is Scott Lewis and with Parkersburg Catholic.
695
00:33:44.240 --> 00:33:45.599
Talk to me a little bit about your team.
696
00:33:46.079 --> 00:33:48.119
I am Senior heavy this year.
697
00:33:48.920 --> 00:33:51.920
A lot of kids it's golf is their second sport,
698
00:33:52.680 --> 00:33:56.799
primarily basketball players. But I've seen a lot of improvement
699
00:33:56.839 --> 00:34:00.519
in my kids this year. We had an experience at
700
00:34:00.519 --> 00:34:04.359
Pines in Morgantown and all the kids played really well.
701
00:34:04.759 --> 00:34:07.039
So we're actually coming in today with a lot of
702
00:34:07.079 --> 00:34:09.239
momentum and looking forward.
703
00:34:09.480 --> 00:34:11.920
To some good things today. What are some of the
704
00:34:12.000 --> 00:34:14.079
lessons these kids learned playing golf?
705
00:34:15.440 --> 00:34:19.440
I think the biggest lesson is patience. You gotta have
706
00:34:19.599 --> 00:34:23.760
patience and you gotta persevere, because if you watch these
707
00:34:23.840 --> 00:34:26.800
kids play, they're not going to hit good shots every hole.
708
00:34:26.920 --> 00:34:30.360
They're not going to come in and shoot in the
709
00:34:30.360 --> 00:34:31.599
thirties every rounds.
710
00:34:31.719 --> 00:34:34.280
At the end of the day, the Waterford Wildcats from
711
00:34:34.280 --> 00:34:38.440
Ohio was the low team. Wohama came in second, but
712
00:34:38.519 --> 00:34:42.480
in the overall score, West Virginia out did Ohio for
713
00:34:42.599 --> 00:34:45.159
this version of the Battle of the Bridge. For the
714
00:34:45.239 --> 00:34:48.639
ninety golfers who participated, it was a great day and
715
00:34:48.760 --> 00:34:51.639
hats off to the Wahama golf team for putting on
716
00:34:51.760 --> 00:34:55.159
such a special event. As the season begins to wind down,
717

00:35:29.440 --> 00:35:31.719
Hello, it's Michael Susman here with your look at sports,
730
00:35:31.719 --> 00:35:34.199
spread to you by Main Street Furniture and Flooring.
731
00:35:34.320 --> 00:35:35.360
In Middleports the.
732
00:35:35.400 --> 00:35:38.320
Gally Academy football team improved to two and two Friday
733
00:35:38.400 --> 00:35:41.199
night with a twenty eight to fourteen victory over Portsmouth
734
00:35:41.199 --> 00:35:44.800
at Memorial Field. It was tied seven to seven at halftime,
735
00:35:44.840 --> 00:35:47.280
and that's where the conversation starts with Blue Devil head
736
00:35:47.320 --> 00:35:51.360
coach Dalton Gerald dominic second half performance Friday night. What
737
00:35:51.519 --> 00:35:52.679
was the message at halftime?
738
00:35:52.840 --> 00:35:57.039
Well, really the message at halftime, we uh, we just
739
00:35:57.079 --> 00:35:58.960
had to keep our foot on the gas. We knew
740
00:36:00.320 --> 00:36:02.239
coming into the game it was going to be a battle,
741
00:36:02.440 --> 00:36:05.679
so you know all week we've been preaching to them
742
00:36:06.280 --> 00:36:09.159
we're gonna be the underdog every single week, and you know,
743
00:36:09.239 --> 00:36:13.239
we're just trying to gain confidence every half of football
744
00:36:13.280 --> 00:36:13.719
we play.
745
00:36:14.199 --> 00:36:17.480
So you know, going into half tied up, you know.
746
00:36:17.400 --> 00:36:19.920
We should have really took the lead at right before halftime,
747
00:36:20.679 --> 00:36:22.840
so we knew, you know, that we could come out
748
00:36:22.880 --> 00:36:24.880
and put some more points on the board.
749
00:36:25.000 --> 00:36:27.639
So you know, we just told them, you know, you
750
00:36:27.719 --> 00:36:30.519
just got to keep grinding all game. Four quarters.
751
00:36:30.760 --> 00:36:32.719
What did you see from your defense in the final
752
00:36:32.760 --> 00:36:33.880
two quarters?
753
00:36:34.280 --> 00:36:37.760
Oh, the defense they second half, they really stepped up.
754
00:36:37.800 --> 00:36:41.800
We had we had one play kind of a busted coverage,
755
00:36:42.320 --> 00:36:47.239
but other than that, you know, we really we we bent,
756
00:36:47.400 --> 00:36:49.559
but we didn't break. So you know, they drove it
757
00:36:49.639 --> 00:36:51.800
down the field on us was getting ready to go
758
00:36:51.920 --> 00:36:55.440
up and score and our Mike linebacker came in and
759
00:36:55.440 --> 00:36:59.039
punched the ball out and Enick Patterson scooped it and
760
00:36:59.119 --> 00:37:01.880
ran it back ninety some yards for a touchdown. You
761
00:37:01.880 --> 00:37:04.679
know that was really when the momentum began to swing.
762
00:37:04.800 --> 00:37:07.840
And then next possession we get a key interception and
763
00:37:08.480 --> 00:37:10.079
you know that kind of just sealed the deal.
764
00:37:10.239 --> 00:37:11.519
Our run defense.
765
00:37:11.199 --> 00:37:14.320
Really, Uh, that's what we've been trying to focus on,
766
00:37:14.599 --> 00:37:18.119
and you know they've stepped up all season and we're
767
00:37:18.159 --> 00:37:19.960
going to try to try to keep building on that.
768
00:37:20.320 --> 00:37:23.440
Coach, just how proud of your team are you? Given
769
00:37:23.440 --> 00:37:26.000
that they could have gone in a hole and complained
770
00:37:26.039 --> 00:37:28.320
and powdered when they were zero and to but they've
771
00:37:28.320 --> 00:37:30.599
bounced back for now, what does that say about their character?
772
00:37:30.719 --> 00:37:33.559
All that? You know coming into the season.
773
00:37:33.880 --> 00:37:36.320
You know, we knew we had a tough, tough road
774
00:37:36.400 --> 00:37:41.679
the first few weeks, and you know they've been very resilient. Uh,
775
00:37:42.039 --> 00:37:44.199
you know, we're super proud of them for you know,
776
00:37:44.480 --> 00:37:46.719
they could have very easily just back down, you know,
777
00:37:46.800 --> 00:37:49.519
coming off one in nine seasons starting season zero and two,
778
00:37:50.320 --> 00:37:54.400
but you know they they actually uh in practice, you know,
779
00:37:55.280 --> 00:37:58.119
just there the way they go about their business, you
780
00:37:58.159 --> 00:38:01.400
can definitely tell the culture has changed and you know
781
00:38:01.440 --> 00:38:07.000
they want to win. You know, worse than the coaches even.
782
00:38:07.079 --> 00:38:10.679
I mean, they do not like losing. And you know,
783
00:38:11.159 --> 00:38:13.599
you've begin to see that the past few weeks. So
784
00:38:14.239 --> 00:38:17.800
very very resilient group and just gritty and you know
785
00:38:17.880 --> 00:38:19.760
they give you one hundred percent every play and we
786
00:38:19.800 --> 00:38:20.719
love them for that.
787
00:38:20.719 --> 00:38:23.480
That's Gally Academy head football coach Dalton Jerrell on the
788
00:38:23.559 --> 00:38:26.119
Valley Today Sports Report, brought to you by Main Street
789
00:38:26.159 --> 00:38:28.159
Furniture and Flooring in Middleports.
790
00:38:28.599 --> 00:38:31.400
When First Federal Savings and Loan came into existence back
791
00:38:31.440 --> 00:38:33.679
in nineteen thirty five, the goal was to provide a
792
00:38:33.719 --> 00:38:37.840
financial alternative for individuals and families to secure their futures,
793
00:38:37.960 --> 00:38:40.920
building homes and dreams that get fuel the community's growth.
794
00:38:41.000 --> 00:38:43.679
That's still the goal today and it's why First Federal
795
00:38:43.760 --> 00:38:46.239
is so involved in the daily life of Ravenswood in
796
00:38:46.320 --> 00:38:50.559
Jackson County, helping businesses grow, schools thrive, and our children
797
00:38:50.599 --> 00:38:53.360
have a brighter future. First Federal Savings and Loan seven
798
00:38:53.400 --> 00:38:57.519
twelve Washington Street, Ravenswood and Equal Housing lender accounts insured
799
00:38:57.519 --> 00:38:58.239
by FDIC
