A lot of people assume the biggest challenge for a pro athlete is making a roster. We’ve learned the quieter challenge is what happens next: building a life where your money, relationships, and identity don’t get managed by strangers you barely know. From a yacht at the Montauk Yacht Club, we talk with former NFL cornerback Levi Wallace about the real off-field game and why trust is the most important line in any contract.
Levi shares his story from being a two-time national champion at the University of Alabama to spending eight years in the NFL, then transitioning into a new role as a sports agent with Legacy Trust Sports Group. He explains why he didn’t choose coaching, what he heard in locker rooms about agents and agencies, and why too many players only hear from their representation when it’s time to sign or when they’re hurt. We dig into financial literacy, advisor selection, and the “referral pipeline” that can turn into a predatory system if nobody is willing to be transparent.
We also get into Levi’s community work through the Levi Wallace Foundation in Arizona, including taking high school students suit shopping to build confidence and open doors for graduation, college, job interviews, and life. Finally, Levi drops clear advice for the NIL era: don’t chase the biggest bag if it costs development, stability, or even school credits that don’t transfer. If your goal is the NFL, choose the place that helps you grow on and off the field.

I'm doing amazing.
00:00:09.599 --> 00:00:10.400
Can you imagine this weather?
00:00:10.560 --> 00:00:10.640
No.
00:00:11.919 --> 00:00:12.880
We have asked for better weather.
00:00:13.119 --> 00:00:13.439
100%.
00:00:13.759 --> 00:00:14.080
100%.
00:00:14.720 --> 00:00:16.559
What a great place to have this conversation.
00:00:16.719 --> 00:00:18.559
I'm so excited to have you on the podcast.
00:00:18.640 --> 00:00:20.640
We have so many incredible things to talk about.
00:00:20.800 --> 00:00:24.879
First of all, give the LA community a little insight about who you are.
00:00:25.519 --> 00:00:29.600
Levi Wallace, two-time national champion, University of Alabama.
00:00:30.000 --> 00:00:36.159
Played eight years in the league, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, finished with Jacksonville Jaguars.
00:00:36.479 --> 00:00:40.560
Just transitioned over to work with Legacy Trust Sports Group as a sports agent.
00:00:41.119 --> 00:00:45.119
Sold my own business, Sprinter Van business out in Arizona.
00:00:45.280 --> 00:00:49.200
Have my own nonprofit, Levi Wallace Foundation, and investor.
00:00:49.679 --> 00:00:50.640
Amazing.
00:00:51.039 --> 00:00:54.079
Alright, so let's talk about the transition from athlete to agent.
00:00:54.240 --> 00:00:58.159
What made you take that route when there are a thousand routes that you could take?
00:00:59.039 --> 00:01:00.320
Okay, a couple things.
00:01:00.479 --> 00:01:02.960
Number one, I think I'd be an amazing coach.
00:01:03.039 --> 00:01:07.920
And I think a lot of players get into coaching, and I have a really high IQ for the game.
00:01:08.239 --> 00:01:12.159
But the hours that coaches put in are insane, way more than players.
00:01:12.319 --> 00:01:22.000
Um, and I've already dedicated 20 years of my whole life to football and being in that building for hours and hours and hours in my body, and I just couldn't do that anymore.
00:01:22.400 --> 00:01:36.799
And so being in a locker room, most of the locker room talk is about families and and finances, but a lot of it is about agents and agencies and marketing and what are agencies doing for our guys.
00:01:36.879 --> 00:01:41.680
And you quickly realize a lot of guys have the same story that they don't talk to their agents at all.
00:01:41.920 --> 00:01:48.640
Um outside of contracts, and when they get injured, they don't have any relationship with their with their agents.
00:01:48.799 --> 00:01:57.280
And it's kind of sad because you're paying somebody a percentage of your contract, and all you need is somebody to be honest with you and have a relationship with you.
00:01:57.439 --> 00:02:02.239
You know, this is a lifelong partnership, I feel like it should be.
00:02:02.480 --> 00:02:04.719
And so I was like, you know what?
00:02:04.879 --> 00:02:05.840
Somebody should change that.
00:02:05.920 --> 00:02:09.520
And not a not a lot of players go into this side of football.
00:02:09.680 --> 00:02:19.360
Um, everyone goes into coaching, they go back to high schools, they go back into uh the communities and become coaches, and I'm like, I I don't know if I really want to do that.
00:02:19.520 --> 00:02:20.960
Um, but I still love the game.
00:02:21.120 --> 00:02:22.319
I'm an expert at football.
00:02:22.400 --> 00:02:23.439
That's all I've known.
00:02:23.599 --> 00:02:25.919
And so I want to be in this this space of it all.
00:02:26.240 --> 00:02:28.479
I absolutely love this path for you and what you're doing.
00:02:28.639 --> 00:02:36.879
Are there any specific initiatives you're bringing into your resources as an agent that you wish you would have had when you were playing?
00:02:37.199 --> 00:02:48.639
Uh, you know, I just feel like agents and agencies should try to help players encompass it all without being paid to do it.
00:02:48.800 --> 00:03:00.080
You know, usually you hear the lines of a pipeline, and hey, we'll refer you guys here, you guys refer us guys, you know, a lot of backdoor deals, especially on this side of it that I'm hearing.
00:03:00.319 --> 00:03:02.800
And I'm like, listen, I already made my money.
00:03:02.960 --> 00:03:10.479
I don't need to get paid off by trying to just pass a guy to you just because of you know me and I know you.
00:03:11.280 --> 00:03:21.599
Now, if you're a great person and I vet you and I trust you, I will put you on my short list and I will leave that up to that guy, that player, to reach out and have a conversation and he'll meet with you.
00:03:21.680 --> 00:03:23.199
And if he likes you, he'll go with you.
00:03:23.439 --> 00:03:24.080
But that's it.
00:03:24.159 --> 00:03:31.919
I'm not going to say, hey, so-and-so, sign with this dude and start trying to really convince him to do that because you have these guys trust.
00:03:32.000 --> 00:03:38.560
When you're their agent, you have their trust, they don't know the ins and outs of um the financial literacy.
00:03:38.639 --> 00:03:44.800
Um, you know, you're taught, get an agent, get somebody to do your taxes, hire a financial advisor.
00:03:44.960 --> 00:03:52.159
And it's like a lot of guys, they're all encompassed with each other, you know, and they're all in business with each other.
00:03:52.319 --> 00:03:57.360
And you like quickly find out, oh, that's I have the same guy, or I have the same guy, or we're in the same agency.
00:03:57.680 --> 00:03:59.919
It's like, uh, I don't know if it's supposed to be like that.
00:04:00.080 --> 00:04:04.080
And so the guys that I represent, I'm like, listen, meet a few different people.
00:04:04.240 --> 00:04:04.800
You know what I mean?
00:04:04.879 --> 00:04:08.080
You know, my my financial advisor might not be your cup of tea.
00:04:08.159 --> 00:04:09.520
It's personality-wise too.
00:04:09.599 --> 00:04:13.199
You know, if you can't have a relationship with these people, it might not be for you.
00:04:13.439 --> 00:04:19.839
This has been the whole premise of the reason that we built the Elevate Collection is that we believe we elevate by elevating others.
00:04:20.240 --> 00:04:34.079
And we noticed that there was a huge predatory space in in the athlete world where these service providers were maybe not in it for the right reasons or were price scourging or you know, and they're having the right team around you is everything.
00:04:34.319 --> 00:04:34.639
100%.
00:04:34.959 --> 00:04:39.360
There's no doubt in my mind you're gonna be an absolutely incredible agent, and I love what you're building there.
00:04:40.399 --> 00:04:47.600
But you're not only a former player and an agent, now you have the well, you've had for a while the Levi Wallace Foundation too.
00:04:47.759 --> 00:04:50.079
Tell us what you're doing with that and how you're working in the community.
00:04:50.319 --> 00:04:54.399
Yeah, so we just wrapped up a couple weeks ago, back to back weekends.
00:04:54.560 --> 00:04:57.279
We took 15 high schoolers suit shopping.
00:04:57.439 --> 00:04:57.839
Wow.
00:04:58.079 --> 00:04:59.759
15 high schoolers suit shopping.
00:04:59.839 --> 00:05:01.759
Um, talk about the importance of the look.
00:05:02.399 --> 00:05:07.279
Uh every away game, obviously at Alabama, we all wore suits because Saban was not playing that.
00:05:07.600 --> 00:05:11.279
But when we got to the league, we all wear suits too in Buffalo.
00:05:11.439 --> 00:05:14.480
And then COVID hit, and everyone started wearing jumpsuits.
00:05:14.639 --> 00:05:18.639
And the DBs in Buffalo, like five of us, we were together for four years.
00:05:18.800 --> 00:05:20.959
We all continued to wear suits on every away game.
00:05:21.040 --> 00:05:21.439
Just us.
00:05:21.600 --> 00:05:24.160
And it was just like a I don't know, a confidence thing, maybe.
00:05:24.240 --> 00:05:24.639
I tell you.
00:05:25.120 --> 00:05:28.800
We thought we were the best group we were at at one point in the NFL.
00:05:28.959 --> 00:05:31.040
And so we we walked, we walked around like it.
00:05:31.120 --> 00:05:35.199
And every away game since then, wherever I've played at, I've always wanted uh a suit.
00:05:35.279 --> 00:05:36.639
I've always tried to look my best.
00:05:36.800 --> 00:05:38.639
You know, dress good, feel good, play good.
00:05:38.959 --> 00:05:40.319
That's exactly what I was thinking.
00:05:40.879 --> 00:05:49.199
And so trying to talk about the importance of the look, and it's not fair, but it is what it is, and how people how serious people take you.
00:05:49.600 --> 00:06:05.120
Um, and then you'll need a suit, whether that's graduation, that's weddings coming up, going to college, businesses, I mean, whatever you're interested in, and you'll need one good suit, but then also giving these kids that don't have a whole lot something that belongs to them.
00:06:05.279 --> 00:06:11.920
A lot of kids get passed downs, and just to see the smile on these kids' faces, like this suit fits me, it's tailored to me.
00:06:12.000 --> 00:06:14.079
Nobody else in the world can wear this suit but me.
00:06:14.319 --> 00:06:15.519
The best feeling ever.
00:06:15.759 --> 00:06:18.079
That is a that is such a gift to them.
00:06:18.399 --> 00:06:23.519
I personally came from a single-family household, underprivileged youth.
00:06:23.600 --> 00:06:26.720
I've benefited from programs like what the Levi Wallace Foundation has created.
00:06:26.800 --> 00:06:27.839
I was an angel tree kid.
00:06:28.000 --> 00:06:28.240
Okay.
00:06:28.399 --> 00:06:38.959
What you're doing is truly making a difference in the world because I vowed when I made it, I would commit my entire life to giving back to the types of agencies that help me.
00:06:39.040 --> 00:06:46.160
Because without without foundations like yours, without providing those community resources, those kids will end up in a much different space.
00:06:46.319 --> 00:06:51.839
I never could have imagined someone like me would end up on a yacht in Montauk.
00:06:52.240 --> 00:06:55.680
But it's all thanks to organizations like yours who are giving back to the world out there.
00:06:56.000 --> 00:06:57.199
So thank you for that work you're doing.
00:06:57.439 --> 00:06:57.680
Of course.
00:06:57.920 --> 00:07:04.720
How can the Elevate community support and elevate you as you continue on this path, both as an agent and with the foundation?
00:07:05.120 --> 00:07:07.519
Foundation, I mean, we have plenty of events next week.
00:07:07.600 --> 00:07:08.959
I I mean I had a late call.
00:07:09.360 --> 00:07:12.800
Obviously, we're here in New York, um, but my foundation is based in Arizona.
00:07:12.879 --> 00:07:17.839
So last night I was on a late call after all the uh the mix and mingling here.
00:07:18.000 --> 00:07:21.600
Um planning one, not only our football camp next weekend.
00:07:21.759 --> 00:07:23.279
Have 200 kids coming.
00:07:23.519 --> 00:07:31.120
But the day before is my birthday, and every year I take a an orphanage to Dave and Buster's at Bomb Birthday Gifts, and we just rock out.
00:07:31.279 --> 00:07:38.800
We rock out for a few hours and they come in there and they just want to beat me at every game, and I'm pulled in every direction, and it's super competitive.
00:07:38.959 --> 00:07:42.079
Um, but we're just we're just loving on kids, you know.
00:07:42.319 --> 00:07:45.120
Um, so that's our whole our whole mentality.
00:07:45.279 --> 00:07:47.519
You can support us, leviwallis.org.
00:07:47.680 --> 00:07:48.959
See all the events we have coming up.
00:07:49.040 --> 00:07:52.000
We have a golf tournament every year in Arizona in March.
00:07:52.160 --> 00:07:55.040
So if you have a great team, you will come and get beat.
00:07:55.199 --> 00:07:57.600
Maybe not by me because I haven't won my golf tournament yet.
00:07:57.839 --> 00:07:59.519
But uh it's it's amazing.
00:07:59.600 --> 00:08:01.680
Everybody's favorite golf tournament they come out to.
00:08:02.000 --> 00:08:05.680
And then on the agency side, I'm always just looking to meet good people.
00:08:06.240 --> 00:08:10.480
Um there's there's a lot of bad people in this industry.
00:08:10.720 --> 00:08:20.079
And so if I can connect good people with great kids that are willing to learn and that want to learn and want to grow in every industry, um I'm looking to do that.
00:08:20.240 --> 00:08:22.000
And so look me up.
00:08:22.160 --> 00:08:27.199
Like Chris said, if you can't get in contact with me, then you must not you must really not want to get in contact with me.
00:08:27.360 --> 00:08:28.160
Because it's not hard.
00:08:28.319 --> 00:08:34.240
It's not hard, and I'm super open, friendly, and honest, um, very genuine, and I'm just here to meet good people.
00:08:34.480 --> 00:08:35.759
Oh, well, we love to do that.
00:08:35.840 --> 00:08:37.279
Let's elevate Levi, Levi.
00:08:37.519 --> 00:08:38.159
One last thing.
00:08:38.799 --> 00:08:42.559
Is there any piece of advice you have for new athletes coming up in the game?
00:08:43.120 --> 00:08:44.720
New advice.
00:08:45.519 --> 00:08:48.320
New advice for new athletes coming up in the game.
00:08:49.120 --> 00:09:01.919
Honestly, I think in this new day and age where NIL has one, given kids the opportunity to make money, but it's always not the smart money.
00:09:02.240 --> 00:09:03.200
Don't chase after money.
00:09:03.360 --> 00:09:04.960
Money comes, money goes.
00:09:05.200 --> 00:09:06.960
Have your hands open always.
00:09:07.120 --> 00:09:14.799
Um, you know, going into this new space, there's a lot of relocation going on with the NIO, and everybody's chasing bags, everybody's chasing money.
00:09:14.960 --> 00:09:16.960
Not developing at all, like how we have to.
00:09:17.200 --> 00:09:18.960
I didn't start until my senior year at Alabama.
00:09:19.120 --> 00:09:24.159
You know, a lot of guys didn't start until the senior year at Alabama unless you were just the best things in sliced bread.
00:09:24.320 --> 00:09:25.600
But you developed along the way.
00:09:25.840 --> 00:09:30.720
You can it's hard to develop if you're in three different programs and three different years, for one.
00:09:31.120 --> 00:09:37.600
For two, um transfers, the the credits, the school credits don't always transfer.
00:09:37.840 --> 00:09:40.159
And guys don't think about that as a chase money.
00:09:40.320 --> 00:09:48.799
Get somebody you really trust, but also going after the biggest bag isn't what's best for you if you're looking to go to the next level.
00:09:49.039 --> 00:10:02.320
I've had a few clients, guys all over college space, get opportunities to go places, maybe lesser college, and have the opportunity to make a lot more money, but is that the best thing for you right now?
00:10:02.879 --> 00:10:04.399
You know what's your what's your real goal?
00:10:04.559 --> 00:10:08.480
And I'm glad the players have the opportunity to make money because it is hard to get into the NFL.
00:10:08.639 --> 00:10:09.919
And anything can happen.
00:10:10.159 --> 00:10:16.799
But at the same time, if that's truly your goal, before NIO, before you were getting paid in college, everyone's goal is to make it to the NFL.
00:10:17.120 --> 00:10:19.200
That's the reason why you got into football.
00:10:19.360 --> 00:10:26.480
And so if that's still your goal, go where it makes sense for you to thrive as a player and as a person and develop as both off the field.
00:10:26.720 --> 00:10:28.799
I feel like that's a mic drop moment.
00:10:28.960 --> 00:10:30.080
Oh, I love it.
00:10:30.480 --> 00:10:34.240
Thanks so much for joining us, Leva, and we can't wait to continue watching you grow and build.
00:10:34.399 --> 00:10:34.639
Thank you.
00:10:34.720 --> 00:10:35.759
Thank you for having me.
