BU BÖLÜM HAKKINDA
You can know your “usual path” and still get hurt when one small thing changes in the dark. That’s the image I can’t shake as I talk through a moment we’ve all lived: waking up at night, trying to navigate the house without turning on the light, and suddenly slamming into what you didn’t expect. It’s funny until it’s not, and it’s a surprisingly honest picture of what uncertainty does to us when we keep moving as if nothing has changed.
Right now, a lot of us are facing a world that feels unfamiliar. We don’t know what’s coming next, we don’t know the right timing, and we don’t even know which direction is wise. I share why that “darkness” isn’t just emotional; it’s practical. When you can’t see clearly, you’re more likely to stumble into problems, react in pain, and unintentionally hurt the people you love. The answer isn’t more bravado or pretending you’ve got it handled. The answer is letting God turn on the light.
I lean on two powerful Scriptures that speak straight into seasons like this. First, God’s words to Joshua as he leads people into new territory: God will guide because “you have not been this way before.” Then 2 Samuel 22:29 brings it home: “For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness.” We talk about what it means for God to be a lamp for your next step, how daily Bible reading and prayer become real guidance, and why listening matters as much as talking.

00:00:10.240 --> 00:00:13.439
Good morning and welcome to Starting Right.
00:00:13.679 --> 00:00:19.839
I am Danny Mack, and I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great start to your day.
00:00:20.000 --> 00:00:27.839
So grab your cup of coffee, sit back and relax for the next five minutes as I help you start your day by starting right.
00:00:32.799 --> 00:00:40.560
Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night and you have to get up and do that little walk around down the hall to the bathroom?
00:00:40.799 --> 00:00:48.479
But because it's dark and it's your own house and you've done it so many times before, you know you don't have to turn on the light.
00:00:48.640 --> 00:00:53.439
So you're gonna get there and you're gonna be just fine because you've done it so many times before.
00:00:53.679 --> 00:00:56.719
And yet something this time is a little bit different.
00:00:56.960 --> 00:01:25.200
You don't turn the corner around the end of the bed the way you normally do, and and suddenly your little toe slams into the corner of your dresser, or you step on something that's been left on the floor that you thought was put away, or worse yet, the cat is laying on the floor beside the bed and you don't see it, and you kick the cat as you're trying to get to the bathroom, and you fall or trip or howl, reacting to the situation there, and you're just like, Why didn't I turn on the light?
00:01:26.079 --> 00:01:49.200
I think we've all been through situations like that where we thought we knew our way in the dark, we figured we could get there because we've done it so many other times, we're familiar with the path to get there, we think we know how to do it, but in the process of getting there, there's just something that's not right, whether we make a mistake and misjudge something or something is different that we just weren't aware of.
00:01:49.359 --> 00:01:54.560
And so now we're slamming into things, we're tripping over things, we're kicking the cat and making it howl.
00:01:54.719 --> 00:02:01.840
Whatever was unexpected before us becomes an obstacle, and either we can get hurt or we can hurt the cat.
00:02:02.879 --> 00:02:05.599
What we needed to do was turn on that light.
00:02:06.560 --> 00:02:13.919
Right now we are facing a world of uncertainty, not because it's necessarily dark, but simply because we just don't know.
00:02:14.080 --> 00:02:17.680
We continually do not know what to expect next.
00:02:18.240 --> 00:02:25.680
And as we go through this time of working things out and struggling through everything around us, we don't know what the answers are.
00:02:26.080 --> 00:02:29.120
And so because we don't know where we're going, we need some help.
00:02:29.680 --> 00:02:36.719
We need to have the light turned on so we can see what is around us, what to do, how to avoid the pitfalls, the problems.
00:02:37.039 --> 00:02:40.719
We need the light so we don't stumble around in the dark.
00:02:41.360 --> 00:02:45.039
I like what God spoke to Joshua in Joshua chapter three.
00:02:45.199 --> 00:02:53.680
They were going to go now into the promised land, and God said to Joshua, I'm gonna lead you because you have not been this way before.
00:02:54.479 --> 00:02:58.080
Quite honestly, for all of us, we've not been this way before.
00:02:58.719 --> 00:03:07.520
And we are struggling through the darkness of not knowing the pieces, not even knowing what direction to go or what to do with a lot of things that we are facing.
00:03:07.840 --> 00:03:15.680
And so we need to find that answer and that help for us to be in the right place at the right time so we don't hurt ourselves and hurt the people that we love around us.
00:03:16.639 --> 00:03:21.840
The greatest direction for us probably comes from 2 Samuel chapter 22 and verse 29.
00:03:22.879 --> 00:03:27.280
For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness.
00:03:28.719 --> 00:03:38.639
He is a light unto our path, and he lightens our darkness, he leads the way that we are going so that we can see how to get through things that are dark around us.
00:03:39.199 --> 00:03:45.520
Things where we can't see the hidden problems or the holes or the traps or the situations that we're going to face.
00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:50.800
God has promised that he will direct us and help us and guide us.
00:03:51.599 --> 00:03:55.439
And God's greatest guidance for us comes as we spend time with him.
00:03:56.000 --> 00:04:07.199
We read the Bible, we talk to him, and what's even more important is we make sure we let him talk to us and give us the encouragement and the wisdom and the peace that we need every day.
00:04:08.000 --> 00:04:19.600
What I encourage us to do is not stumble around through the darkness thinking we can get there, we know the answers, we've been through stuff before, we can get to where we want to go, but instead saying, Lord, turn on the light for us.
00:04:19.839 --> 00:04:21.839
I need you to be my light.
00:04:22.160 --> 00:04:30.879
I need you to be my lamp and my guide through this maze that we are going through, because God, we've not been this way before.
00:04:31.199 --> 00:04:37.600
So be my light, be my guide today, and give me the strength and wisdom that I need.
00:04:37.920 --> 00:04:40.000
Have a great day, my friends.
00:04:47.920 --> 00:04:49.519
Thank you for listening today.
00:04:49.680 --> 00:04:55.120
And I invite you to join me Monday to Friday right here on Starting Right with Danny Mack.
