Mari and Zaid live inside the city walls, scavenging the beach for anything worth selling - good-grade plastic, amber, metal they can trade. Outside the walls, they've always been told, the air will kill you.
Then Zaid finds something in the sand. A device stamped with an outsider language. Old man Harun says it's the most important thing the children have ever touched. Mari says Harun is mad.
Beachcombers is a story about what people are told to keep them in place - and what happens when a child picks up the wrong piece of the past.
