00:00:00
Speaker 1: Hello, everybody, and welcome to another episode of Off the Air, the weekly podcast from the Lynch & Taco Show here at 101.1 WJRR in beautiful Maitland, Florida. I'm Pat Lynch.
00:00:10
Speaker 2: Maitland, in case you're listening from out of state, is just a part of Orlando overall.
00:00:17
Speaker 1: And that's Taco Bob. All right. So, you know, we do this Off the Air podcast pretty much every Thursday. And wouldn't you know it, as the weekend approaches... stupid effing hurricane had to go ahead and get in under the wire to spoil the record that had been going previously of no hurricanes in the Atlantic basin this year.
00:00:39
Speaker 2: Yeah. And there's several reasons why I can say it bugs me, but I think you agree is that one, it's the insurance companies. I'm sure going to say, well, there was a, it was a hurricane on the map, even though it's not near us. And then two is how it almost seems like these meteorologists have boners when they're talking about this. And I get it. That's their job. But let's not be smiling when we're talking about a storm that's going to wail into an area that gets hit all the time. Yeah, I know.
00:01:08
Speaker 1: So, you know, if you're listening from that area of the southeast, you know, best of luck. You just got to ride through it and deal with it and then take whatever comes afterwards, whatever it may bring. We've all You know, pretty much, if you live in this part of the world, have had to deal with it in one way, shape, or form at times. But let's just hope this will be it and we'll be done with this year's season. I'm just pissed that it could screw up some of these college games this weekend.
00:01:36
Speaker 2: I know. I had to look. My daughter, I didn't realize, but she's flying in to go to– or driving in here to fly out to Nashville. I don't know why. Maybe a concert or something. And I had to look on the map if that would be effective. Probably. Hope it's an indoor show. you just feel bad for those people that live in that area.
00:01:56
Speaker 1: I know they're going to play that Alabama, Georgia game come hell or literally high water.
00:02:00
Speaker 2: Without a doubt. It's just a matter of big moneymaker.
00:02:02
Speaker 1: They may change the time of it. We'll see. That's to be determined anyway. So that little side shows happening. Um, what else is going on? Um, not related to it. It looks like there'll be decent waves for the surf fest this weekend on the East coast of Florida taco.
00:02:17
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:02:18
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:02:18
Speaker 2: I mean, hopefully the pier blocks out some of the wind on it. Um, Surf Fest happening Saturday. And in case you're going, wait, what? Saturday the 10th, okay? Saturday, Sunday, and Monday on Columbus Day. Or Indigenous Peoples Day. Oh, wait.
00:02:39
Speaker 1: This will end up triggering people and it will be misheard.
00:02:41
Speaker 2: Okay, then don't say it.
00:02:42
Speaker 1: Do we still have to call it Indigenous Peoples Day? It's Columbus Day.
00:02:47
Speaker 2: I just call it Columbus Day. I mean, that's what it always was. I just.
00:02:51
Speaker 1: every little effing thing these days. It's like, you can't say that it hurts someone's feelings. You're marginalizing people.
00:02:57
Speaker 2: You're whatever. No, we're not. We're just.
00:02:59
Speaker 1: It's listed.
00:03:00
Speaker 2: Under both on my phone, I think, so... Let me see, Pat. Yes, Columbus and Indigenous Day, so... Suck a dick.
00:03:10
Speaker 1: You'll get over it.
00:03:12
Speaker 2: It'll be okay. There's a... Yeah, so Surf Fest is going to be a really good time out there. It always is. Waves are going to be good, as you said. And it's a whole weekend event. Surf, pro, and you've got pros from all over the world that come out for this. And that's happening all three days. Then you have events throughout the night. There's a free street party in Cocoa Beach, actually, downtown Cocoa Beach, starting at 6 on the Saturday night. And then a big auction and taste of Brevard on Sunday night. That's a good place to score some stuff. If you're sitting here going, oh, I'm not listening in the area where I'm able to make it, you could do the auction online at NKF. You just search NKF Surf Fest.
00:03:58
Speaker 1: National Kidney Foundation. Well, have fun out there, brother.
00:04:01
Speaker 2: Speaking of beachy things, I looked at something. and came across this the other day. I don't know why it was just sitting. I guess my wife had straightened up the office, and this happened to be.
00:04:16
Speaker 1: Out. He's got something in his hand. I can't see it right now. And I go, you've got to be kidding me.
00:04:24
Speaker 2: Boom.
00:04:28
Speaker 1: Cuervo Gold Passport?
00:04:32
Speaker 2: That's from our trip to Cuervo Island. Like, what was that, 15, 20 years ago? Was that crazy guy Stan and all the smoking hot dirty Russian was there?
00:04:44
Speaker 1: Was that before or after we got fired?
00:04:47
Speaker 2: It was before we got fired. It was before, so yeah. Because I remember somebody was there.
00:04:53
Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, moving right. Yeah, it was definitely before we got fired.
00:04:56
Speaker 2: It was. We took a trip. It was really cool. And we've talked about this before, but we haven't talked about it in forever. Jose Cuervo used to fly out, you know, like radio shows.
00:05:09
Speaker 1: To do a big weekend promotion.
00:05:10
Speaker 2: In the Virgin Islands on this quote-unquote virgin or Cuervo nation, Cuervo Island.
00:05:17
Speaker 1: It was just an island they rented out for us to come and get wasted on.
00:05:20
Speaker 2: Exactly. But they straight up, when he says rented out, And they spent so much money on that to fly all these people. And you had people flown in from different countries even.
00:05:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, there were some characters at that event.
00:05:35
Speaker 2: Flew in people from all around, and then they– Our job was to hang out, party, have fun, and then do our show from there, which is nonstop mentioning Jose Cuervo.
00:05:47
Speaker 1: Well, if you recall, very little of our broadcast actually happened.
00:05:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, because it was bad connections.
00:05:54
Speaker 1: Bad connections. So they spent all this money. We go down there and show up to do the show, and our engineer who was with us was like, oh, it's not working.
00:06:06
Speaker 2: Well, could that maybe be.
00:06:08
Speaker 1: Is that you or them? He's like, I don't know. It's not working.
00:06:11
Speaker 2: I think it's their line. I'm trying. But so the party itself though, it had all these Cuervo chicks that you got. Okay. You know, when you're out and you see different, you know, beer girls, girls, promo girls, but these ones would stand up to today's hot levels. Wouldn't you agree? Sure. They were crazy hot. And, uh, There was this one guy, Stan, that was the MC for the event and the party thrower kind of. He was wild as could be. So we had just a really cool time.
00:06:45
Speaker 1: He was leading by example.
00:06:46
Speaker 2: Yes, he was. The guy was a machine, a party machine. They would give away these Cuervo coins for different things that people would do. Like, hey, get in the limbo contest and you could win some Cuervo coins. It was to motivate people who weren't, which you're in radio, you should be motivated to do fun shit anyway. But There's like, then it escalated. And one was like, all right, man, if you piss on that intern, you'll earn X amount of chick or chips. And this. Guy was buried in the sand on the beach up to his neck.
00:07:20
Speaker 1: Now, to be fair here, that wasn't Stan's idea.
00:07:24
Speaker 2: No, it was their idea. They said, how many gold chips can I get?
00:07:27
Speaker 1: Because this numbnuts is willing to let us bury him up to his neck, and then we're going to take a leak on him.
00:07:32
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:07:33
Speaker 1: Not us. We weren't associated with this, as hard as that may be to believe.
00:07:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, we had nothing to do with it. We did watch. Of course we did. And they said, well, how many coins for this? what's wrong with you guys? But then remember, towards the end of it, I don't even know what you used the coins on.
00:07:53
Speaker 1: You didn't use them for anything, I don't think.
00:07:55
Speaker 2: I think it was just bragging rights. But then towards the end of it, I remember when I was like, all right, man, it was either he asked or I just volunteered, hey, I'll take a dump in this pool at the resort, dumbass. And it was going to score me some good, but then I had poop fright. Which I.
00:08:17
Speaker 1: I did that. Reflecting back, it's probably good that you had whatever you just described it as.
00:08:23
Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it definitely was. But anyway, so yeah, that was a great trip. That's the one where, Pat, you mentioned it a couple years ago, I believe, where it's time to leave.
00:08:36
Speaker 1: The last night of this, I think we were there for a total of three days, maybe three or four days.
00:08:43
Speaker 2: It was like four, yeah.
00:08:45
Speaker 1: The last day They had like this beach luau type thing.
00:08:50
Speaker 2: Crazy party.
00:08:51
Speaker 1: And it was cool.
00:08:52
Speaker 2: It was cool.
00:08:52
Speaker 1: It was good food. And, you know, obviously drinks are just flowing. And the next morning there was three waves of departures and you were assigned to one. We unfortunately got stuck on the earliest one. It was this bus to the airport was leaving where we were staying at 5.15 in the morning. So, you know, I... Come 9 o'clock, I'm like, I'm going to go get some sleep, dude. I'll see you back at the place.
00:09:22
Speaker 2: It was a little more, too. It was like, Bob, you remember, we're leaving at this time. You're going to want to get some sleep. But I'm surrounded by all these, you know, partiers and having fun. And I don't drink tequila. But I had a little bit of tequila that night. But then, you know, it was mainly drink a beer or whatever and then had a little more tequila.
00:09:42
Speaker 1: So I go back and I, you know, get all my stuff ready. Ready to go. All I need to do is just shower and throw the clothes on that I'm going to be wearing home.
00:09:51
Speaker 2: Sleeping.
00:09:52
Speaker 1: I got woken up. Thunderstorm. Thunderstorm happening.
00:09:56
Speaker 2: Were you and I sharing a room? Yep. I think so, yeah. Yep.
00:10:00
Speaker 1: That was one of the last times we shared a room, by the way. Anyway, thunderstorm wakes me up, and I'm like, hmm, what time? I look over, and it's like 10 after 3 in the morning. Bob's not in the room. We're supposed to meet this bus at 5.15.
00:10:16
Speaker 2: And it's the last flight out of the island.
00:10:19
Speaker 1: Oh. And he's not there. I'm like, well, another hour and a half to sleep. So I went back to sleep. Woke up in plenty of time to be ready to go. Still no Bob. And I look outside. It's still pouring rain. And he is passed out on a chase lounge outside the door, which you apparently couldn't figure out how to open.
00:10:45
Speaker 2: Exactly. Couldn't figure out how to get back in. And cause I think, I don't, I don't recall. I think it was a number code or something like that. Well, that wasn't happening. So then he woke me up, shook me for a while, I believe probably.
00:11:00
Speaker 1: And then dude, get up, get up. And he's soaked head to toe.
00:11:04
Speaker 2: Yeah. So then I get up and I'm like, all right, what time is it? But I was able to just throw everything in the bag. I think I did. I even shower. I think, no, I just, I just put on Dry clothes, definitely.
00:11:16
Speaker 1: We threw the sopping wet clothes in, like, one of those plastic grocery.
00:11:20
Speaker 2: Store bags, I think. Like, it was a trash can bag, yeah.
00:11:24
Speaker 1: And we, you know, made our way to where we needed to be in time to catch the bus over to the airport.
00:11:30
Speaker 2: But then was our bus and stuff delayed that morning? Nope. Because I thought we sat at the bar, and I was like, I don't care that the flight's delayed. No.
00:11:38
Speaker 1: Wasn't that true. That one went smooth sailing, man.
00:11:42
Speaker 2: It was a different trip.
00:11:44
Speaker 1: You.
00:11:44
Speaker 2: He was ready to leave. And I was like, you know, this could be worse. We're sitting at a bar at 9 o'clock, and it was a tiki bar by a pool. I'm going.
00:11:56
Speaker 1: You're not a Europe guy. I'm not a beach guy. No, exactly. I mean, I enjoyed the trip there.
00:12:00
Speaker 2: It was a real fun trip.
00:12:02
Speaker 1: After a few days of being up close and personal with you, I'm like, okay, all right. Let's wrap her up.
00:12:10
Speaker 2: Let's wrap her up.
00:12:11
Speaker 1: So anyway. We made it back, survived it.
00:12:15
Speaker 2: By the way, that was not one of the last times we shared a hotel room. We've shared since then, definitely.
00:12:21
Speaker 1: Try not to. Try not to.
00:12:23
Speaker 2: Oh, trust me. Sleeping with that pap smear buzzing along, too. And that me snoring and sleep talking. I think mainly my new roommate after that was Super Dave, and then it was, what's his name, Paramore. He doesn't like sleeping in the same room anymore.
00:12:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, he kind of brought that up. yesterday during his diary of a black man, because you guys are going to be spending quality time. He's the promo this weekend for surf fest.
00:12:48
Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah.
00:12:48
Speaker 1: All right.
00:12:50
Speaker 2: It'd be a good time, man. The boss man's going to be out there. So we're all going to head out tomorrow night.
00:12:55
Speaker 1: Oh, Hey, did you change gears here? Did you see the botched execution ladies awake now?
00:13:02
Speaker 2: Oh yeah. She woke up on like Tuesday. Yeah.
00:13:04
Speaker 1: She's awake. And, um, I guess the question, they're still trying to figure out what's next. This is the Tennessee, two dose of the lethal cocktail that didn't kill her because they apparently missed the artery or the vein or whatever they're supposed to stick the needle into.
00:13:22
Speaker 2: Whatever the reason was, she didn't go. And I said, don't even call the ambulance. Just jam another one in her. Right then and there.
00:13:32
Speaker 1: Now, that goes into the cruel and unusual aspect that people will argue who are against the death penalty.
00:13:38
Speaker 2: I know they will. I know they will. They'll argue about if the lady farted during the thing. Anything they can argue about, they will. What it comes down to is if she basically, didn't she dismember the girl? Oh, took out her skull and put.
00:13:54
Speaker 1: A pentagram on her. Yeah, they did a satanic ritual when she was like 18 to some, yeah.
00:13:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, some unsuspecting girl that they just invited out to the woods, her and her friends. And she went over the top and killed her, dismembered, all this stuff. So you know what? Yeah, I am going to jam a third needle in her. I might even jam two at once. Or pull out my pen to the surface. I might even borrow from the guard there and say, give me that pistol.
00:14:18
Speaker 1: So I wondered if this was going to... Cause delays in executions that use lethal injection around the country. Well, the answer is now no, it will not.
00:14:28
Speaker 2: Thank you, Texas. And if you're against a death penalty, totally get it.
00:14:34
Speaker 1: That's fine. I understand.
00:14:36
Speaker 2: I'm not getting into that debate. I'm just saying this lady, what she did, and I've heard the graphic stories of it. It's so disgusting. Oh, and then she tried killing somebody while she was in prison.
00:14:46
Speaker 1: We're both pro-death penalty. And again, if you're not, that's fine. Yeah. It's fine. Have your own opinion.
00:14:53
Speaker 2: We have ours.
00:14:54
Speaker 1: And let's not just, you know, hate each other because we don't agree on something.
00:14:59
Speaker 2: No, we should all have our own opinions.
00:15:01
Speaker 1: Way too many other subjects we can hate each other on. It's a waste of time. It gets to the point of ridiculous sometimes. But anyway, so Texas... had one last night and now florida has three on the books coming up they including a double a double uh coming up on the 13th.
00:15:20
Speaker 2: Yeah two for doing one at.
00:15:22
Speaker 1: Noon i guess and one at uh six in the evening it's stark and then they just signed for another one the first week in november which will make 20 for the year a record.
00:15:32
Speaker 2: Hey we gotta empty out these death row um stays because that's costing all of us money. Who was it? I'm sorry, if you raped and killed family members, you need to. Yeah. Who was it?
00:15:47
Speaker 1: Who was it we were talking to? This subject came up this week about, you know, executions and stuff. And, you know, some people are just so cruel and unusual and inhumane and whatever. And he goes, why don't we just, you know, use the– heavy anesthetics to the level where they just, it's lights out and that's it.
00:16:07
Speaker 2: It was Ken Yulo.
00:16:08
Speaker 1: That's right. He's like, and I go, you know what?
00:16:10
Speaker 2: You're right, dude.
00:16:11
Speaker 1: It's like, you know, you hit them with enough propofol. It's definitely not cruel and unusual. Anybody who's had propofol administered before a medical procedure, you know, if done right, it gives you like the most best sleep you've ever had.
00:16:27
Speaker 2: He'd put you out in a matter of seconds.
00:16:28
Speaker 1: Overdo it. And now you just think the lights go out permanently, right? No must, no fuss.
00:16:35
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:16:36
Speaker 1: He might be on to something there.
00:16:37
Speaker 2: I think it's a pretty good idea. We've had the best ideas, though, when it comes to that. You know, if you make it to make it a deterrent for people to commit crimes.
00:16:48
Speaker 1: Which is also one of the big arguments. Is it a deterrent or not?
00:16:52
Speaker 2: It would be if it was done in a Times Square setting. And you charge tickets. That might be cruel and unusual.
00:17:01
Speaker 1: I think it would be more of a deterrent if someone was sentenced and then more or less immediately the sentence was carried out without these years and years and years of delays.
00:17:14
Speaker 2: Give them a couple of years in case there's something that they find DNA-wise to where they're innocent. Say, you know what? It's like a carton of milk. You're expired. Come with me. Oh, you want a steak?
00:17:25
Speaker 1: Have this frigging cheeseburger. Then we're throwing out the trash. Yeah. Anyway, so it'll be interesting to see if Florida gets through those three and sets the new record this year. Very well could. Very well could. All right. What else we got going? Oh, crap. Before we go, tomorrow is one of the days of the year that I don't look forward to.
00:17:51
Speaker 2: You already had your physical. That went well.
00:17:53
Speaker 1: That was this week.
00:17:54
Speaker 2: You already had your dental appointment last week. That went well a couple weeks ago.
00:17:57
Speaker 1: That always goes well, yeah. My dog Otis, tomorrow it's nail day. Nail day. I got one of those dogs that will not, absolutely will not tolerate having his nails cut.
00:18:12
Speaker 2: You just called it, brother. You just called it with the amount of medicine. Just give three times the medicine he's normally supposed to have. Get them all doped up.
00:18:23
Speaker 1: Any of you who have a dog that deals with this, you know what I'm about to say. They issue what's called the chill protocol, Bob. So today we go to our vet, pick up these drugs that we start giving him this evening. Then he gets another dose tomorrow morning when he eats. And then another one an hour before we take him tomorrow afternoon.
00:18:45
Speaker 2: Ask him for an extra two. That's it. You just add one tonight and then one tomorrow morning. And I'm telling you, it's going to go a lot better.
00:18:55
Speaker 1: We've done this now twice with him. Tomorrow will be the third time. And the first two did not go well. Despite giving him this chill protocol. He's got like some sort of superhuman, I don't know, tolerance, super canine tolerance to whatever's in this drug that's supposed to chill him out. It still takes four people to hold him down, primarily me.
00:19:18
Speaker 2: He's got idiot strength. Give him more drugs.
00:19:20
Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
00:19:21
Speaker 2: Talk to the vet and say, hey. What do you think about giving him two more? You've already dealt with this two times that he has idiot strength.
00:19:29
Speaker 1: The vet doesn't do the procedure. He has his techs handle things like this. So anyway, the part that I don't look forward to is as he fights, and he fights the entire time, the nails that he has are so long. They're like razor blades. They're like talons at this point. And I have– I don't– I don't know if you can see this on the camera.
00:19:53
Speaker 2: I've got a scar.
00:19:54
Speaker 1: I have a permanent scar.
00:19:56
Speaker 2: There's a shadow right where you're showing it.
00:19:58
Speaker 1: It runs from my knee almost down to my ankle where he got me last time.
00:20:04
Speaker 2: Did it hurt? Oh, no.
00:20:06
Speaker 1: I didn't even know I had done it because it was so sharp. Yeah.
00:20:11
Speaker 2: Do you know why? Does your dog have red hair by chance? Brown.
00:20:16
Speaker 1: Okay.
00:20:16
Speaker 2: Have you ever heard the redhead pain tolerance? I had never heard this, and I heard it from a buddy last week. He said, even though I'm gray now, I'm naturally a redhead.
00:20:27
Speaker 1: Which is me, and I've got some gray going now, too.
00:20:30
Speaker 2: That's why I'm telling you this. So I go, yeah, what's the deal? He said, when they had to put me under for this procedure, it wasn't working. And they gave me more. And he goes, Doc, I can still feel it. He goes, you may not notice and said what I just said. You may not notice because of the gray hair, but I'm a redhead. And the doctor called on. I just Googled it. People, just to make sure he was right, people with natural red hair process pain differently than others because due to mutations in MC1R gene. His pain threshold is way up here.
00:21:11
Speaker 1: I've never heard this, but speaking for myself, I think I have a pretty high pain tolerance myself. I'll put up with a lot of stuff before I eventually go, all right, I got to go get something done. It's got to be to the point where I just am incapacitated.
00:21:27
Speaker 2: There's different things, Pat. where it affects redheads differently. Thermal and cold pain, redheads are often more sensitive to heat and cold pain. Electric shocks and pressure, redheads show less sensitivity.
00:21:45
Speaker 1: So I could go stick my finger in that socket over there and it's like, let's rock.
00:21:48
Speaker 2: You sure can.
00:21:49
Speaker 1: Ride the lightning, baby.
00:21:50
Speaker 2: You can stick your wiener in there if you'd like.
00:21:52
Speaker 1: That I won't do.
00:21:53
Speaker 2: I won't tell anybody.
00:21:54
Speaker 1: Hey, what happened to Lynch? He electrocuted himself.
00:21:58
Speaker 2: Hey. Dental and local anesthetics, I know you've never had dental, but local anesthetics like lidocaine or Novocaine are often less effective for redheads. So this guy that was talking to a friend of mine, redhead, I'd never heard that, and I heard it last week.
00:22:14
Speaker 1: I'd never heard it either, and I am a redhead.
00:22:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe that's why you didn't feel that scratch as much as you might have. That was just one of those surface ones, because I've had them too, where all of a sudden you have blood all in your socks. You're like, what the hell? And you've got this bloodline down your leg.
00:22:29
Speaker 1: Well, my short-term goal to wrap this up is to emerge tomorrow without any new additional scarring.
00:22:36
Speaker 2: So it's today.
00:22:39
Speaker 1: No, today we're doing our podcast right now. I'm taking the dog tomorrow to have the nails cut. The chill protocol starts today.
00:22:47
Speaker 2: The emerging tomorrow I won't see, but Monday for our listeners and I.
00:22:53
Speaker 1: Come back in here Monday with no additional scarring.
00:22:56
Speaker 2: Thank you for the clarification. If you do the Bob plan, it's just like lewd water. It worked. You get a couple extra doggy pills. Just mention to him, hey, you can ask your vet techs. Even though you said he doesn't work on them, tell him, ask your vet techs. This dog is crazy. I think we need to go on extra couple pills. You watch. I know a guy who writes prescriptions.
00:23:17
Speaker 1: I'll let you know.
00:23:18
Speaker 2: How it goes. He's a life coach.
00:23:21
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:23:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, he is.
00:23:23
Speaker 1: Just blank pads laying around.
00:23:24
Speaker 2: That's it.
00:23:25
Speaker 1: Anyway. All right. That'll do it for this episode of Off the Air with Lynch and Taco. We usually update these pretty much every Thursday, unless we're on vacation or something. Hey, and you know what?
00:23:36
Speaker 2: When you're asking your vet for those couple extra pills.
00:23:39
Speaker 1: What do you need?
00:23:39
Speaker 2: Want to get your buddy one?
00:23:43
Speaker 1: What's Bob on now? Something from my vet. You'll try anything.
00:23:48
Speaker 2: It's like, chill pill or something. Doggy chill pill. All right.
00:23:53
Speaker 1: Academy.
00:23:54
Speaker 2: Perfect. All right.
00:23:57
Speaker 1: Have a great rest of your day. Thanks for checking out our off the air podcast. We'll see.
We'll see.
