My Pre-Interview Process
A day before—sometimes the day of—the podcast, I carve out several hours to sit with my guest in complete intimacy. No cameras, no microphones, just my notebook and two humans sharing a space. With nothing but curiosity and a pen, I guide my guest through their story, capturing the raw details that will become our roadmap. We explore the emotional landscape, identify the moments that changed everything, and uncover the universal truths hidden within their personal journey.
Some of the most profound conversations of my life have emerged from these sessions. There's something sacred about this process to me—the trust a human places in me to handle their story with care, the vulnerability required to excavate painful memories, the honor of witnessing someone's truth unfold in real time.
I'm endlessly grateful for the souls that let me capture their stories.
Decade-Long Fight for Freedom
What happens when the system designed to protect us becomes the very thing that destroys us?
Thomas Egbert was 21 years old—a certified mechanic with no criminal history and everything to live for—when he was sentenced to 20 years for a crime he didn't commit. While the actual shooter walked away with a six-year plea deal and surviving three. Thomas found himself facing two decades in maximum security hell.
For seven brutal years, he navigated the razor's edge of a level-four prison yard. Racial riots. Daily violence. The systematic stripping away of hope. All while his young children grew up without their father.
But Thomas refused to surrender.
In the darkest corners of that concrete tomb, he found unlikely mentors—lifers who pointed him toward the prison law library with words that would change everything: "Nobody's going to get you out of here but yourself."
For years, Thomas became his own lawyer, studying case law by day and dodging violence by night. Appeal after appeal, motion after motion, until finally—after serving over ten years for someone else's crime—his conviction was overturned.
But perhaps the most remarkable twist was yet to come. While Thomas fought for his freedom, his first love discovered his name while working as a child support enforcement officer. She wrote. She waited. She believed. Today, they're building the life that was stolen from them.
Have you ever wondered how someone survives losing everything unjustly and still finds the strength to rebuild?
Listen to this raw, unflinching journey through our broken justice system—and proof that even in our darkest moments, hope can find a way to survive.

00:00:40.390 --> 00:00:46.884
and more like taxing on the mental health, I feel like, than being incarcerated, you know and uh.
00:00:46.884 --> 00:01:08.126
So I'm excited to kind of dive into that and learn about that a little bit and learning more about your, uh, your past and just you know, we've been friends for a while, bro, yeah, Excuse me, excuse me All right.
00:01:10.914 --> 00:01:12.337
So we'll start with how old are you?
00:01:12.337 --> 00:01:14.121
55.
00:01:14.121 --> 00:01:16.837
You look young.
00:01:16.837 --> 00:01:19.073
Thank you, tom.
00:01:19.073 --> 00:01:20.998
What's your middle and last J?
00:01:20.998 --> 00:01:24.676
Tom J, it's actually Thomas.
00:01:24.676 --> 00:01:30.677
You want Tom or Thomas, it don't matter to me, t-o-m-a-s or T-H-O-M-A-S.
00:01:30.677 --> 00:01:34.395
T-h Sounds very professional.
00:01:34.395 --> 00:01:36.480
Thomas J Egbert Mm-hmm.
00:01:36.480 --> 00:01:43.013
You were born where.
00:01:43.756 --> 00:01:45.997
Flagstaff, Arizona, 1970.
00:01:48.371 --> 00:01:53.943
October 14th 14th, all right.
00:01:53.943 --> 00:02:07.418
So kind of what I do is make like a little roadmap of your life, of the things we're going to talk about, and then I can navigate the conversation and know when to go and to win.
00:02:07.418 --> 00:02:32.066
So it's kind of in chronological order, like from when you were born, where you're born to where we're at now, but between all of that, which the beginning is when you were born and then we're in the present, right now, think of three major life events or chapters or moments that shifted the course of your life, changed the direction of your life or changed the whole way.
00:02:32.066 --> 00:02:43.622
You even think it could be something good, it could be something traumatic, it could be whatever, but life-altering events usually change the course of our lives, whether it's for good or bad.
00:02:43.622 --> 00:02:46.276
What can you think of?
00:02:47.850 --> 00:02:48.955
I was born in Flagstaff.
00:02:48.955 --> 00:02:50.300
We moved to Winslow.
00:02:50.300 --> 00:02:52.156
That's where I grew up Winslow, Arizona.
00:02:52.156 --> 00:02:57.679
Okay, had a pretty good childhood, up until six years old probably.
00:02:57.679 --> 00:03:01.915
My dad was a major alcoholic, just a mean man.
00:03:01.915 --> 00:03:09.076
One of my sisters got killed in a vehicle accident.
00:03:09.076 --> 00:03:13.418
The driver was my other older sister's.
00:03:13.418 --> 00:03:20.953
I'm not Hi, you can speak huh yeah, of course he's doing us a YouTube video, so go ahead.
00:03:21.093 --> 00:03:21.635
Yeah, we got time.
00:03:21.635 --> 00:03:24.438
We're just doing the pre-interview process though.
00:03:24.438 --> 00:03:29.211
Hi, yeah, yeah, of course.
00:03:29.211 --> 00:03:29.391
Do you.
00:03:29.391 --> 00:03:30.795
You like bigger teas up here?
00:03:30.795 --> 00:03:32.500
You can bring them over here.
00:03:32.500 --> 00:03:32.941
Thank you so much.
00:03:32.941 --> 00:03:33.783
Yes, thanks, I appreciate it.
00:03:33.783 --> 00:03:38.314
I like your, john ellie, there's a great thank you I'm sorry.
00:03:38.314 --> 00:03:39.557
I was nice to meet you.
00:03:39.557 --> 00:03:40.618
Nice to meet you, rj.
00:03:40.618 --> 00:03:45.919
I live in colorado too, so that's why I was like, yeah, but I used to live here and I used to work with him all the time.
00:03:46.810 --> 00:03:48.919
I've only heard really good things about you.
00:03:48.919 --> 00:03:53.179
He really seems to like you a lot, which is rare.
00:03:53.931 --> 00:03:55.397
You don't find too many real people.
00:03:55.417 --> 00:03:55.778
You don't.
00:03:55.778 --> 00:04:02.391
You really don't find too many good friends that just you get along with and you're there for each other when you need each other.
00:04:02.391 --> 00:04:03.554
It's rare.
00:04:03.653 --> 00:04:05.876
She is one of the good moments of my life that will come later.
00:04:05.876 --> 00:04:07.457
Yeah, the good parts.
00:04:07.457 --> 00:04:08.819
Yeah, the good parts.
00:04:08.819 --> 00:04:15.784
I'll tell them a story about my life from when I grew up and everything oh yeah, it's a long story yeah, get down, dude, get down.
00:04:15.784 --> 00:04:22.435
Yeah, you don't need to be in the lap, look comfortable.
00:04:22.435 --> 00:04:23.317
Yes, thank you.
00:04:23.317 --> 00:04:24.418
You look good to everybody.
00:04:25.199 --> 00:04:26.382
Anyway, thank you, honey.
00:04:26.382 --> 00:04:27.463
Thank you so much.
00:04:27.463 --> 00:04:28.105
Yeah, thank you.
00:04:28.105 --> 00:04:29.596
And this tea's amazing too, by the way.
00:04:29.615 --> 00:04:34.058
Yes, it is, I'm going to grow some of those pork chops here in a little while.
00:04:34.058 --> 00:04:35.665
Do you want any?
00:04:35.665 --> 00:04:36.326
Sure, you can do that.
00:04:36.326 --> 00:04:38.016
Maybe some of them mashed potatoes that we got in there.
00:04:38.016 --> 00:04:39.800
You want some the mince?
00:04:39.800 --> 00:04:40.060
What about?
00:04:40.060 --> 00:04:45.466
Guys know this yeah we're going that's what we do with Portal Talk just a minute, That'd be fantastic.
00:04:46.165 --> 00:04:47.226
Yeah, thank you so much.
00:04:47.226 --> 00:04:51.466
So anyway, your sister passed away.
00:04:51.466 --> 00:04:52.189
She got into a car wreck.
00:04:52.189 --> 00:04:54.028
Who was she driving?
00:04:55.877 --> 00:04:56.882
This guy's name is David Anaya.
00:04:56.882 --> 00:04:57.968
He's my brother-in-law.
00:04:57.968 --> 00:05:00.601
Now he's married to my other sister.
00:05:00.601 --> 00:05:01.747
He was the one driving.
00:05:01.747 --> 00:05:04.396
They were all together and the club you know, on anything partying.
00:05:04.396 --> 00:05:05.500
She had this one.
00:05:05.500 --> 00:05:08.600
She was high into rodeo, horses, everything.
00:05:08.600 --> 00:05:10.750
Well, yeah, she wanted a bunch of ribbons at night.
00:05:10.750 --> 00:05:13.959
Oh hell, yeah, she was the only one ejected from a road vehicle and she done it.
00:05:13.959 --> 00:05:32.259
And just not too long ago I found out that, uh, my sister, her older sister, my, my older sister they actually left her there on the ground for like 45 minutes Because they were all drinking and she was worried about going to jail, getting caught.
00:05:32.259 --> 00:05:32.741
That's funny.
00:05:32.741 --> 00:05:37.017
So she died and that changed the course of our whole family.
00:05:38.221 --> 00:05:39.122
How old was she at the time?
00:05:39.769 --> 00:05:41.073
She was 15 years old, 15?
00:05:41.073 --> 00:05:41.073
.
00:05:42.496 --> 00:05:44.501
Yes, tony, I didn't know that.
00:05:44.501 --> 00:05:49.161
T-o-n-i like tony, tony, tony, help.
00:05:49.161 --> 00:05:51.335
Uh man, and you were?
00:05:51.335 --> 00:05:52.079
How old?
00:05:52.079 --> 00:05:57.580
You were six when that happened, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, so she's only a couple years older than me that's what I'm gonna call her man.
00:05:57.600 --> 00:05:58.664
she was a great sister.
00:05:58.664 --> 00:06:01.512
How many other brothers and sisters I have?
00:06:01.512 --> 00:06:02.154
Two old.
00:06:02.154 --> 00:06:12.897
I have one younger brother and one older brother, and me and my older brother have never, really ever got along well.
00:06:12.897 --> 00:06:13.983
No, no, me and my younger brother we had a great.
00:06:13.983 --> 00:06:24.662
But my older brother, when we were growing up and went along, I was the youngest of the crew and we hung out with guys that were way older than us, you know, and I was always the guinea pig for everything.
00:06:24.662 --> 00:06:29.801
Yeah, that's right, you know it wasn't like that, but it just made me go fight people on the street.
00:06:29.801 --> 00:06:31.094
It was rough.
00:06:31.830 --> 00:06:33.735
Because they're older, they can kind of you know.
00:06:33.735 --> 00:06:35.219
Yeah, they were boys, they were.
00:06:35.259 --> 00:06:36.101
They were bulldogging.
00:06:36.101 --> 00:06:47.460
So when my sister died, I finally moved back to Flagstaff and the things just continued to get worse and worse and worse.
00:06:48.870 --> 00:06:51.218
So that was from your younger years.
00:06:51.509 --> 00:06:59.662
They're getting worse through your teen years, so from around seven years old, we moved back to Flagstaff Arizona.
00:06:59.662 --> 00:07:23.254
My dad, my mom, my older sister, of course, my brothers and we started going to school and stuff there and my dad would continue to drink, come home drunk all the time, just beating people up, including me and you know, my mom, yeah, so my mom packed us all up when I was actually.
00:07:23.254 --> 00:07:28.820
I met her in Flagstaff when I was 12 years old what you know and we took each other's virginity.
00:07:28.980 --> 00:07:32.123
What Really, yeah Damn Hell of years ago.
00:07:32.123 --> 00:07:32.803
That's crazy.
00:07:32.803 --> 00:07:33.364
It is crazy.
00:07:33.364 --> 00:07:35.246
What yeah that's?
00:07:35.306 --> 00:07:35.567
awesome.
00:07:35.567 --> 00:07:43.396
And then we got separated when my mom put us all in a van and drove us all to Texas and Santa Fe, texas, and you know.
00:07:43.396 --> 00:07:45.701
So I went to school in Santa Fe and I hated school.
00:07:45.701 --> 00:07:46.402
I did school.
00:07:46.402 --> 00:07:55.904
But I met this old mechanic, rj, and let me tell you, I did school every day from seventh grade, all the way until I didn't go to school.
00:07:57.810 --> 00:08:06.918
Cops were getting involved, yeah, but this man taught me how to be a mechanic and he taught me everything.
00:08:06.918 --> 00:08:11.104
He taught me how to weld, he taught me how to paint, he taught me how to build engines, he taught me how to do everything, everything.
00:08:11.104 --> 00:08:16.500
And let me go in this big-ass junkyard he had and said pick any car you want out there and you're going to build it here in this shop.
00:08:16.500 --> 00:08:17.390
What I picked?
00:08:17.390 --> 00:08:20.180
A 67 Camaro SS, nice.
00:08:20.180 --> 00:08:30.479
It had no motor room, no junk, yeah, restored it completely, 100% Paint, brand new, everything Myself, yeah, all by myself, young too.
00:08:30.479 --> 00:08:32.584
Within one year, dang.
00:08:32.584 --> 00:08:33.706
And he paid for all it.
00:08:34.591 --> 00:08:37.721
And my mom found out I was just in school for a year, for a year, and she sold it.
00:08:37.721 --> 00:08:39.956
She took it from me.
00:08:39.956 --> 00:08:42.150
Oh, she sold this car to me, dang.
00:08:42.150 --> 00:08:43.451
They sold this car to him.
00:08:43.451 --> 00:08:46.855
So that started a bad thing for me and my mom, but I love my mom, she's awesome.
00:08:46.855 --> 00:08:47.757
She still lives in Texas.
00:08:47.757 --> 00:08:49.018
Man, yeah, you guys are cool now.
00:08:49.018 --> 00:08:50.961
So about that, oh yeah, we've always been cool.
00:08:50.961 --> 00:08:57.630
So that was about the age of 14 or 15 years old I was at that time, yeah.
00:08:57.630 --> 00:09:21.346
And then from there I moved back to Phoenix and I went to a mechanics school, a trade school, oh, pit, phoenix Institute of Technology, okay, and I graduated for precision power, train and chassis all AAA certified mechanic, nice.
00:09:21.346 --> 00:09:24.420
And then from there that was a year.
00:09:24.420 --> 00:09:25.022
I did that a year.
00:09:25.022 --> 00:09:31.421
So then after that, about that time, I had a problem.
00:09:31.521 --> 00:09:33.004
Oh no, malfunction, malfunction.
00:09:38.453 --> 00:09:39.497
Yeah, it's a woman.
00:09:39.497 --> 00:09:52.662
Let's see if we got it's just later.
00:09:52.662 --> 00:09:54.517
Yes, it should.
00:09:54.517 --> 00:09:57.198
Let's turn that.
00:09:57.692 --> 00:09:59.566
I think we're back a bit.
00:09:59.566 --> 00:10:02.283
Where were you?
00:10:02.283 --> 00:10:03.190
The Phoenix Institute?
00:10:03.631 --> 00:10:07.480
Yeah, from there I graduated, uh, certified mechanic.
00:10:08.122 --> 00:10:08.603
Chassis.
00:10:09.210 --> 00:10:10.355
Precision power train the chassis.
00:10:10.355 --> 00:10:14.394
I cover everything on the vehicle, from the frame, from the tires all the way up through everything.
00:10:14.394 --> 00:10:16.440
Oh shit, I know.
00:10:16.440 --> 00:10:18.796
So I moved back to Winslow, arizona.
00:10:18.796 --> 00:10:23.742
I was about 19, 19 or 20 at the time when I graduated Mm-hmm.
00:10:23.742 --> 00:10:27.223
Then 19, 19 or 20.
00:10:27.223 --> 00:10:29.304
At the time when I graduated Mm-hmm, I started working for a Ford dealership as a medical people Mortgage for a while.
00:10:29.566 --> 00:10:31.209
Yeah, oh, it's in the Cigar.
00:10:31.209 --> 00:10:32.052
Yeah, yes.
00:10:32.052 --> 00:10:59.509
My dad was a Cigar, because I don't know why he needs to stay in the back part, but it don't work though, because it's got the wet thing on it thing on it.
00:11:00.331 --> 00:11:01.396
That should definitely be off.
00:11:01.396 --> 00:11:02.581
You can move that to a bar or whatever you want.
00:11:02.581 --> 00:11:06.415
You got to break out some of these brother.
00:11:06.415 --> 00:11:09.001
Which ones these yeah what?
00:11:11.735 --> 00:11:13.681
I got them just for this special occasion.
00:11:14.030 --> 00:11:16.078
And I'm happy to give my story to you.
00:11:16.078 --> 00:11:18.274
By no means you know.
00:11:18.274 --> 00:11:23.192
There's a whole bunch of other stuff that went down when I went to Texas.
00:11:23.192 --> 00:11:31.841
Dude, dude, I used to race supercross, uh, two-stroke dirt bikes, 125, really, yeah, and race in miami.
00:11:31.841 --> 00:11:36.799
Rick raced in miami, florida, at daytona, uh, fort lauderdale beach.
00:11:36.799 --> 00:11:40.830
I raced in houston, texas, the houston astrodome.
00:11:40.830 --> 00:11:52.081
I raced in phoenix, phoenix, arizona, in the Coliseum, 125 class, cc, yz 125, 1985 model Yamaha.
00:11:52.081 --> 00:11:52.360
Yes, sir, yz.
00:11:52.360 --> 00:12:00.812
Well, I was brutal, no fear, nothing ripping at me no fear over them?
00:12:01.215 --> 00:12:03.014
So you're doing that Ford dealership?
00:12:03.014 --> 00:12:05.971
Is that around the same time as everything that's way before, oh, way before?
00:12:05.971 --> 00:12:06.893
So you're doing that Ford dealership?
00:12:06.893 --> 00:12:11.076
Is that around the same time as everything that's way before, oh, way before?
00:12:11.076 --> 00:12:11.638
I didn't know All right.
00:12:11.638 --> 00:12:13.720
So what were you doing while you were working at the Ford?
00:12:14.161 --> 00:12:14.980
dealership Lead mechanic.
00:12:14.980 --> 00:12:15.461
Lead mechanic Nice.
00:12:15.461 --> 00:12:17.403
I was a very young one, I was 20 years old.
00:12:17.424 --> 00:12:22.211
Damn, that's tight, you're the big dog I was, so you're obsessed with it.
00:12:22.211 --> 00:12:23.095
Do you really love what you're doing?
00:12:23.095 --> 00:12:24.218
Do you still love doing that, oh?
00:12:24.238 --> 00:12:24.479
I love it.
00:12:24.479 --> 00:12:37.959
I just love to find the smallest vehicles I can get and put the biggest motors I can find and make hot rods Nice, I like the old-school lawnmower riding, sit-down ones, but with some motor on it.
00:12:37.959 --> 00:12:38.802
Those, are the next ones.
00:12:38.802 --> 00:12:41.057
I have one in the backyard where I'm going to make one.
00:12:42.115 --> 00:12:42.436
I have.
00:12:42.436 --> 00:12:49.751
That's where.
00:12:49.751 --> 00:12:50.913
Um yeah, so you're the lead mechanic.
00:12:50.913 --> 00:12:53.076
What's going on?
00:12:53.096 --> 00:12:54.979
around the brand is that delicious they are, thank you.
00:12:54.979 --> 00:12:58.245
At that time I was not working.
00:12:58.245 --> 00:13:00.398
Well, I was making great money, I don't know.
00:13:00.398 --> 00:13:10.396
But the lifestyle in windsor, where I was on, there's nothing but drugs and alcohol already, poverty and all that kind of stuff, and that's what I was doing.
00:13:10.396 --> 00:13:11.658
Why didn't it work?
00:13:11.658 --> 00:13:12.721
Why is it like that?
00:13:12.721 --> 00:13:14.436
Because there's nothing else to do.
00:13:14.436 --> 00:13:16.355
That, bro, it's just a small town.
00:13:16.355 --> 00:13:21.937
There ain't no shopping centers, there ain't no malls, there ain't no, there ain't nothing.
00:13:21.937 --> 00:13:24.114
It's just a town.
00:13:24.114 --> 00:13:25.620
You know some businesses.
00:13:25.620 --> 00:13:27.408
The railroad pretty much ran it.
00:13:27.408 --> 00:13:27.970
You know what I mean?
00:13:27.970 --> 00:13:31.901
Route 66, that's right through Winslow, oh, really, yeah.
00:13:31.901 --> 00:13:39.499
And my dad actually owned a Texaco gas station when I was young, the only major service station in that town at the time.
00:13:39.499 --> 00:13:41.831
Really, everybody was afraid of my dad, dude, everybody.
00:13:41.831 --> 00:13:43.073
He was a mean dude?
00:13:43.192 --> 00:13:45.315
Oh yeah, he told me he beat everybody up, including you.
00:13:45.716 --> 00:13:47.397
You know he used to take us dove hunting.
00:13:47.397 --> 00:13:50.080
He caught us and put us through hunter safety courses and stuff.
00:13:50.160 --> 00:13:50.501
Oh yeah.
00:13:50.641 --> 00:13:53.444
We'd go dove hunting and deer hunting, elk hunting.
00:13:53.444 --> 00:13:55.766
You know, every time we'd get drawn, he'd get drawn, whatever.
00:13:55.766 --> 00:14:05.804
But he just had a major drinking problem and I really can't blame him now, because now I know that his father was way worse on him, man straight up.
00:14:05.804 --> 00:14:09.320
So me and my dad are cool at this point, yeah, we're good.
00:14:09.320 --> 00:14:15.848
You start to understand as you get older and you become an adult and I don't have no hate towards nobody, you know what I mean, right.
00:14:15.848 --> 00:14:21.341
But when I'm working in this, this is where it gets even much worse for me.
00:14:22.751 --> 00:14:37.296
I've been working for a dealership for a year, yeah, and I had got drawn for gear that year and I had a friend by the name of david chavez, you know, my two other other brothers also had got drawn.
00:14:37.296 --> 00:14:46.182
Well, that gone for the same area, but we only had one rifle that my dad had left us and then so my older brother had it and they were out in the woods.
00:14:46.182 --> 00:14:50.176
So I got off of work that night dude, it was a Friday night.
00:14:50.176 --> 00:15:02.345
I got off of work, went and picked up my homeboy and his dad had had a .30-06 rifle that belonged to his son so we could go hunting, had to tag everything.
00:15:02.345 --> 00:15:03.527
Everything was all legit, mm-hmm.
00:15:03.527 --> 00:15:08.220
So we go hunting from his dad's house to Walmart to buy some shells for
00:15:08.280 --> 00:15:08.321
it.
00:15:08.321 --> 00:15:17.637
And I came around this corner and there was two dudes standing on the corner right there and I knew who both of them were.
00:15:17.637 --> 00:15:20.495
I didn't really associate with them but, yeah, they knew who I was under them.
00:15:20.495 --> 00:15:24.681
Just what one of them was related to the dude that's with me.
00:15:24.681 --> 00:15:29.153
Yeah, the guy that's with me said he's hunted all down in the past.
00:15:29.153 --> 00:15:31.858
He sees a car Don't stop, don't stop, don't stop.
00:15:31.858 --> 00:15:34.383
The car, yeah, pimping on him.
00:15:34.383 --> 00:15:39.817
Yeah, stopped right in the middle of the street, mm-hmm, and he's related to him.
00:15:39.817 --> 00:15:43.559
Yeah, he has a big old rock wire on the chain with a leash.
00:15:43.559 --> 00:15:59.694
So he takes the side of the car and the other guy comes up to my side of the car and says man, thomas is probably just leaving.
00:15:59.694 --> 00:16:02.378
Why, I'm not afraid of nobody, dude, yep.
00:16:02.378 --> 00:16:16.975
So dude walks around the side of the car and punches the dude right in the face with the chain wrapper, splits his whole face wide open, bleeding all over the place.
00:16:16.975 --> 00:16:17.899
Dude, yeah, the guy didn't want to get smoked.
00:16:17.899 --> 00:16:19.627
He's the one who just punched right in the face from the other dude that walked
00:16:19.647 --> 00:16:19.747
right.
00:16:19.747 --> 00:16:22.501
He said their first cousins, over some kind of deal that went bad on them.
00:16:22.501 --> 00:16:29.618
A drug dealer went bad on them, I don't know when, but it hit on bad, so okay, and then he off walking.
00:16:29.618 --> 00:16:33.384
It was like a low-income project, low place, is it?
00:16:33.384 --> 00:16:34.105
They were two.
00:16:34.105 --> 00:16:36.079
They were going to do the hitting with that, yeah.
00:16:36.079 --> 00:16:42.557
So I looked at the passenger oh, my Dude, you got to handle that, bro.
00:16:42.557 --> 00:16:45.177
You can't just let this dude hit you in the face like that.
00:16:45.177 --> 00:16:46.181
I do not do that Right.
00:16:46.181 --> 00:16:50.599
He had no heart, brother, and I had always looked out for him in the past.
00:16:50.599 --> 00:16:51.863
Yep, yep, yep, I see.
00:16:51.863 --> 00:17:02.855
So the dude went away and I said hey, you fucking, you're going to do that shit to me, and in that amount of time.
00:17:02.855 --> 00:17:08.098
Well, this rifle's sitting right in the, you know, in the console of my truck.
00:17:08.098 --> 00:17:10.915
Yeah, I'm looking at this new talk of shit.
00:17:10.915 --> 00:17:11.940
He wouldn't come back to the porch.
00:17:11.940 --> 00:17:22.694
This jackass passenger that's with me pulled the rifle up, dude, and fires it right in front of my face and he hit a window in the dude's apartment and went out the roof.
00:17:22.975 --> 00:17:23.518
Damn.
00:17:23.518 --> 00:17:32.180
I got charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, premeditated two counts of aggravated assault premeditated.
00:17:32.180 --> 00:17:37.382
Two counts of endangerment premeditated put me in jail.
00:17:37.382 --> 00:17:40.458
I was in the Navajo County Jail for a year.
00:17:40.458 --> 00:17:48.817
I got bonded out and I refused to take a plea bargain because I didn't do nothing, man.
00:17:48.817 --> 00:17:50.616
I didn't fire no gun.
00:17:50.616 --> 00:17:52.698
I never wanted no gun to be fired.
00:17:52.698 --> 00:17:55.479
You know that's what happened for real, yeah, yeah.
00:17:55.479 --> 00:17:58.459
So the guy who shot the gun was a month past him.
00:17:58.459 --> 00:17:58.960
Yep, yep.
00:17:58.960 --> 00:18:00.134
They gave him six years.
00:18:00.870 --> 00:18:02.096
He took a plea bargain for six years.
00:18:02.096 --> 00:18:05.038
Did they say that he pulled the trigger and not you?
00:18:05.038 --> 00:18:06.516
He came and testified at a month trial.
00:18:07.394 --> 00:18:17.675
He came and testified at my trial and so when I went to trial, I lost and I had the most jackass attorney you could ever think of.
00:18:17.675 --> 00:18:23.302
They used my mom as the investigator for their law firm Phillips Associates out of Phoenix, arizona.
00:18:23.302 --> 00:18:27.226
She has no experience in being an investigator nothing, hardly, none.
00:18:27.226 --> 00:18:28.948
That's ridiculous.
00:18:38.130 --> 00:18:39.554
Well, I went to trial, I lost lost.
00:18:39.574 --> 00:18:41.360
They gave me 20 years in prison and your mind is on that, like she had to do she.
00:18:41.360 --> 00:18:42.042
How was she part of the court?
00:18:42.042 --> 00:18:46.673
My attorney that my mom hired for us had a phoenix called phoenix and phillips and associates law firm.
00:18:46.673 --> 00:18:54.680
She hired them to come and represent me and they introduced my mom as their lead investigator for their law firm.
00:18:54.680 --> 00:18:56.973
How that's even legal, I don't even know.
00:18:56.994 --> 00:18:58.057
Yeah, that's like conflict of interest.
00:18:58.459 --> 00:18:59.341
Yeah, that's crazy.
00:18:59.341 --> 00:19:01.526
So anyway, he was horrible.
00:19:01.526 --> 00:19:06.256
Yeah, he did horrible in the trial, mm-hmm, the witnesses came in.
00:19:06.256 --> 00:19:14.096
The dude that punched the guy in the face said that he watched me help put my hand on the barrel to help him aim the gun at him.
00:19:14.096 --> 00:19:19.159
What the For real In the transcripts, rd, what yeah?
00:19:19.159 --> 00:19:23.360
And I was like, wow, I can't even believe it.
00:19:23.360 --> 00:19:27.959
Somebody would even say that I mean, that's a deer rifle dude, yeah, with a scope on it.
00:19:27.959 --> 00:19:29.593
That don't make any sense.
00:19:29.593 --> 00:19:31.172
Why would I grab the end of the barrel?
00:19:31.172 --> 00:19:32.135
And I'm not even looking.
00:19:32.135 --> 00:19:35.774
The dude didn't even put it on his shoulder, he just pulled it Boom.
00:19:35.774 --> 00:19:36.698
Do you know what I mean?
00:19:36.890 --> 00:19:37.835
To help him do what.
00:19:38.814 --> 00:19:40.159
I hope that's what they testified to.
00:19:40.932 --> 00:19:41.555
And he still lost.
00:19:42.057 --> 00:19:46.879
I lost and I went to President Brown and they gave me a long time.
00:19:46.879 --> 00:19:59.193
I did many, many years and I filed appeals because I had all my rights still and you didn't do it and I won After ten and a half years already being in prison.
00:19:59.193 --> 00:20:01.835
That's just how long it took me to go through the nine-second court of appeals.
00:20:01.835 --> 00:20:09.834
I went back and they remanded it back to the 17th court in Navajo County and the judge says you know?
00:20:09.834 --> 00:20:18.614
I went back and then remanded it back to the 17th court in Navajo County and the judge says you know, this is the only thing I can do.
00:20:18.614 --> 00:20:25.665
She said we can either start from square one and back it up Go, come here, come here.
00:20:25.665 --> 00:20:31.160
We can either start from square one, start your whole bond, your whole card, all the way over.
00:20:31.160 --> 00:20:36.653
She said, or I can drop it to the super mitigated sentence and you'll be out.
00:20:36.653 --> 00:20:40.021
And for you, I said.
00:20:40.021 --> 00:20:44.240
I said, okay, we'll do that.
00:20:44.750 --> 00:20:48.036
Well, at that time I think I had already been in prison.
00:20:48.036 --> 00:20:49.259
It was either 12 and a half years or something.
00:20:49.259 --> 00:20:52.857
It was either 12 and a half years or something, so it was like 12 and a half years.
00:20:52.857 --> 00:20:58.682
So I had to do four more years and I got released.
00:20:58.682 --> 00:21:00.898
And they actually released me two years earlier than that.
00:21:00.898 --> 00:21:05.077
Oh, that's for good behavior in prison, yeah, yeah, yeah, and doing all the programming and all that stuff.
00:21:05.077 --> 00:21:11.688
So I actually got out, but I still did a long time in prison for absolutely nothing.
00:21:11.688 --> 00:21:14.275
I didn't touch nobody, I didn't shoot no gun.
00:21:14.275 --> 00:21:15.076
I did nothing.
00:21:15.076 --> 00:21:17.481
You know, you really didn't do nothing.
00:21:17.542 --> 00:21:25.216
I didn't hope, I swear I did nothing at all and you've never been in any trouble, like you know that nothing straight prison straight to prison.
00:21:26.798 --> 00:21:30.630
So when you go to prison I'm sure you may know that you know different states have different things.
00:21:30.630 --> 00:21:36.603
So whatever your sentence is you're going to do, I had to do 65 of my sentence at that time.
00:21:36.603 --> 00:21:38.133
Yeah, so that's why I got.
00:21:38.133 --> 00:21:44.673
You know, they gave me a 20 and a half year sentence but I got out and so they take 65 of it.
00:21:44.673 --> 00:21:46.499
Then I for good behavior and all that stuff.
00:21:46.499 --> 00:21:48.312
It just continued to drop it down more and more and more.
00:21:48.312 --> 00:21:49.194
How did you know you had, like the option?
00:21:49.215 --> 00:21:49.917
to go to court and all that stuff.
00:21:49.917 --> 00:21:51.261
It just continued to drop it down more and more and more.
00:21:51.261 --> 00:21:55.718
How did you know you had, like, the option to go to court and do that and was there like a library thing?
00:21:55.718 --> 00:21:56.936
Did you have to go learn the law?
00:21:56.936 --> 00:21:58.697
Did you have to study for all that?
00:21:58.697 --> 00:22:00.183
Yeah, how did that?
00:22:00.203 --> 00:22:00.284
work.
00:22:00.284 --> 00:22:11.983
When I hit the yard, I hit a maximum security prison yard, level four in Phillipsburg, aryan Brotherhood, all the gangs, all of that shit, Everybody.
00:22:11.983 --> 00:22:14.538
Yeah, and I'm a straight fish, as they call it.
00:22:14.538 --> 00:22:19.838
When you first hit a prison yard Brand new, yeah, on a level four yard you get wrecked three times a week.
00:22:19.838 --> 00:22:23.492
Uh-huh, you get a shower three times a week and that's it.
00:22:23.492 --> 00:22:24.054
That's it.
00:22:24.054 --> 00:22:32.803
You go to the, you're in a cell with another dude and violence every single day, and I did seven years on that yard.
00:22:32.803 --> 00:22:34.184
Seven years, seven years.
00:22:34.184 --> 00:22:45.652
Yeah, I got a GED, though I worked in the kitchen, got a job working in the kitchen and I worked in the rec department.
00:22:45.652 --> 00:22:46.211
So I was better in my life.
00:22:46.211 --> 00:22:54.798
The opportunities you had, you took them, but I still got connected to the people I needed to for survival.
00:22:54.798 --> 00:22:55.519
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:22:55.720 --> 00:22:57.181
Because you have to pick.
00:22:57.201 --> 00:22:59.663
Mama, get in right, you have to.
00:22:59.663 --> 00:23:08.835
If you don't, you can either die, yeah, or you're going to go to protective custody, you know, or something like whatever.
00:23:08.835 --> 00:23:12.210
They offer people to do that, and people in protective custody, they don't have a good life in prison, bro, yeah, ever, yeah.
00:23:12.210 --> 00:23:14.295
So I did what I had to do, rj.
00:23:14.295 --> 00:23:15.077
You know what I mean?
00:23:15.077 --> 00:23:16.101
Yeah, yeah, that's what I did.
00:23:16.101 --> 00:23:18.365
Yeah, for my own reasons.
00:23:18.365 --> 00:23:18.850
You know what I mean?
00:23:18.850 --> 00:23:19.671
Stay alive, yeah, hey.
00:23:19.990 --> 00:23:34.180
And I tell you, a lot of people talk about AB being the most notorious killers in the world, and some may be, but two of them that I met in there, they took care of me.
00:23:34.180 --> 00:23:37.194
One of them taught me there was a law library there.
00:23:37.194 --> 00:23:38.875
I signed up for it.
00:23:38.875 --> 00:23:42.679
I went in there and he said I'm going to show you where the books are.
00:23:42.679 --> 00:23:45.258
I'm going to show you what books you need.
00:23:45.258 --> 00:23:46.675
She said you're going to sit down here?
00:23:46.675 --> 00:23:55.276
She said, because nobody's going to get you out of here but yourself, tom.
00:23:55.276 --> 00:23:55.698
You read these books.
00:23:55.698 --> 00:23:57.103
You come in this law library, don't go to the gym and all that stuff.
00:23:57.103 --> 00:24:07.934
You come in here, you study the case, you file your own stuff, and I did and my case was overturned Damn that's amazing, that's cool, like on him, though, after seven years, though I was fighting it, bro, it took me that long.
00:24:08.456 --> 00:24:09.317
They kept kicking it back.
00:24:09.317 --> 00:24:11.641
They kept because I emotions weren't filed right.
00:24:11.641 --> 00:24:12.362
Blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:24:12.362 --> 00:24:14.826
It always has to be Always something like that, always.
00:24:16.553 --> 00:24:37.158
I watched like there's YouTube videos where they're showing a guy who's been in for a bunch of years and they're, like you know, going through the interview If they're going to release you early, parole thing and they're so like unfazed by it at that point because they've been in so long that they're like not catering to their institution.
00:24:37.178 --> 00:24:43.956
you know, once you get to that stage, you have adjusted to living in prison.
00:24:43.956 --> 00:24:46.298
That's after so many years.
00:24:46.298 --> 00:24:47.635
And I did the same thing.
00:24:47.635 --> 00:24:51.641
I made a routine, I worked out.
00:24:51.641 --> 00:24:56.593
You know I did everything, all the classes, I went to church.
00:24:56.593 --> 00:25:00.997
You know I did everything I needed to do to get.
00:25:00.997 --> 00:25:04.123
You know, keep myself on the straight path.
00:25:04.123 --> 00:25:07.957
Yep, but keep in mind I didn't deserve to be in prison, man.
00:25:07.957 --> 00:25:09.501
Yeah, at all beginning.
00:25:09.501 --> 00:25:16.143
And I went through three major, major riots, really yeah.
00:25:17.230 --> 00:25:20.999
People were dying Blood air just smoke bombs all that yeah.
00:25:21.891 --> 00:25:29.135
Tear gas National Guard shooting concussion bombs, shooting shotgun bombs, shooting rubber balls, rubber ones.
00:25:29.135 --> 00:25:30.658
Yeah, you ever been in one of them.
00:25:30.758 --> 00:25:32.882
I haven't, but I know they fuck people up.
00:25:32.882 --> 00:25:34.045
They hurt yeah.
00:25:36.230 --> 00:25:37.918
They do not feel good, though Not bad.
00:25:37.918 --> 00:25:41.912
Strip you all down and come in and strip your whole self.
00:25:41.912 --> 00:25:44.815
No blankets, no sheets, you're in your box and we were handcuffed face down.
00:25:44.815 --> 00:25:49.139
We were handcuffed face down, hog tied in the dirt on the Redfield for like 15 hours.
00:25:49.139 --> 00:25:57.307
Dude, ants and shit crawling on us, and as you moved they had dudes in gun towers all around the prison yard and it was a big old, loud microphone.
00:25:57.307 --> 00:26:04.061
If you move, the next round will be live and you will die.
00:26:04.061 --> 00:26:05.906
Three of those I went to.
00:26:05.906 --> 00:26:08.732
Racial wars in between it was crazy, bro.
00:26:08.773 --> 00:26:09.453
racial wars in between.
00:26:09.453 --> 00:26:10.937
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was crazy, bro.
00:26:10.937 --> 00:26:11.336
What was the like?
00:26:11.336 --> 00:26:16.064
Biggest like had the most beef rivalries between, like the different gangs or races.
00:26:20.610 --> 00:26:23.572
It was usually always the whites against the blacks.
00:26:23.572 --> 00:26:25.692
Very seldom it was the whites against the Mexicans.
00:26:25.692 --> 00:26:27.254
And then you know the Indian nation.
00:26:27.254 --> 00:26:28.735
We never had issues with them.
00:26:28.735 --> 00:26:30.696
So it was usually the whites against the blacks.
00:26:30.696 --> 00:26:31.497
And then the Mex nation.
00:26:31.497 --> 00:26:32.356
We never had issues with them.
00:26:32.356 --> 00:26:36.779
So it was usually the whites would get to black and then the Mexicans would always jump right in with us and it was devastating on the black people.
00:26:36.779 --> 00:26:40.682
They would be stuck in razor wires trying to get away from good.
00:26:40.682 --> 00:26:44.065
It was 15 to 1 racial bro.
00:26:44.065 --> 00:26:47.826
Really, yeah, easy, maybe more.
00:26:47.826 --> 00:26:51.990
A lot of Mexicans and a lot of white people, a lot of white people, a lot of white people.
00:26:51.990 --> 00:26:52.350
Dang.
00:26:54.633 --> 00:26:55.154
I can imagine.
00:26:55.154 --> 00:27:08.236
Do you, at this age and where you're at in life and everything you've gone through, have you been able to like look back at those times or those chapters of your life to like really soak it in and be like man?
00:27:08.236 --> 00:27:14.919
I really went through that or I could have really not made it through that if this or this changed and really like reflected on it.
00:27:15.470 --> 00:27:27.509
You know, what I went through already was devastating, you know, and it wasn't about I wasn't worried about being able to handle myself in prison.
00:27:27.509 --> 00:27:40.403
It was a simple fact that I was yanked away from my two boys, who were very young at the time, and the wife I had before her, you know, just stripped my whole life away from me.
00:27:40.403 --> 00:27:45.221
That's devastating on a person, you know.
00:27:45.221 --> 00:27:53.232
Yeah, it's a problem, but you know, I'm a survivor and I got a good heart, you know, and I, uh, but you know, I still I'm a survivor and I I got a good heart, you know, and I made it through it.
00:27:53.232 --> 00:27:55.442
After all them here, I made it through everything.
00:27:55.442 --> 00:28:02.631
And even though I haven't seen my youngest son for almost 20 years, you know, I still love him and everything, but he don't even work.
00:28:02.631 --> 00:28:05.959
He was, he was just a baby dude in diapers when I got taken away.
00:28:05.959 --> 00:28:11.039
Yeah, but my oldest boy, I still talk to him all the time, so it's all good there, nice.
00:28:13.934 --> 00:28:18.899
So all them years I went to prison, I just stayed focused.
00:28:18.899 --> 00:28:24.837
I knew I was going to be there for a long time and to make anything worse was just going to be worse for me.
00:28:24.837 --> 00:28:27.094
So you know, of course, everybody.
00:28:27.094 --> 00:28:33.364
You know you're going to miss the ones, your family and everything else else, but this is your home now, yeah, and you're not going anywhere.
00:28:33.364 --> 00:28:34.729
You know better, learn.
00:28:34.729 --> 00:28:35.971
You got to make the best of it.
00:28:35.971 --> 00:28:36.973
Take care of yourself.
00:28:36.973 --> 00:28:45.050
Yeah, you know, stay with the right people and just do what you got to do and continue to fight the case and get out, man, yeah, because I knew I was going to get out.
00:28:45.050 --> 00:28:46.457
Yeah, that's when I stayed focused.
00:28:46.457 --> 00:28:47.781
That's what kept me alive.
00:28:48.504 --> 00:28:59.912
It kept me, you know, not alive, but kept me on the straight path I feel like goals that I've chased in in, things like you know that are in my life right now.
00:28:59.912 --> 00:29:10.644
I neglected everything basically, uh, except for just like the work and my kids and the goal.
00:29:10.644 --> 00:29:15.200
You know what I mean and that's where the focus comes from.
00:29:15.200 --> 00:29:15.641
You know what I mean?
00:29:15.641 --> 00:29:23.500
That's like the only way to really really, really really get shit done is like 100% tunnel vision and everything else.
00:29:23.500 --> 00:29:31.294
Like you said, we're going to be here a while, so we might as well not even think about anything else but getting out of here, so we might as well not even think about anything else, but getting out of here.
00:29:31.314 --> 00:29:43.722
You know somebody's on that path still just surrounded by violence, every single day, every day, every day, bro, and you don't ever know when you're going to be called upon running with.
00:29:43.722 --> 00:29:52.091
You know the boys you're running with they might go handle that, you know, and it happened a couple of times and I had to do what I had to do.
00:29:52.091 --> 00:30:06.073
You know when there's a rapist hit the yard, bro, you know hey, he's got to go Snakes or whatever, straight up, bro, that's the way it gets down and I lived that life for many, many years in there and I'll still do the same thing today.
00:30:06.073 --> 00:30:09.415
If somebody wrecked my somebody, it's going to be bad.
00:30:09.415 --> 00:30:11.898
It's going to be bad, you know, and that's just my that's.
00:30:11.898 --> 00:30:13.939
I'll never change in that aspect, never.
00:30:14.259 --> 00:30:28.936
I don't think anybody should, especially with your own family and everything like that, like anybody period, you know, I feel like standing up for women Because we're, you know, the bigger we're supposed to be in charge of that shit.
00:30:28.936 --> 00:30:29.797
You know what I mean.
00:30:29.977 --> 00:30:42.658
Any man is going to hate a woman due to the coward, if you ask me, and far beyond that, and especially to do something bad to a child, I can't even tell you what's going to happen if I ever catch him.
00:30:42.658 --> 00:30:44.086
You know what I mean.
00:30:44.327 --> 00:30:54.454
That's right and unfortunately it's so prevalent in society right now and it's kind of swept under the rug and it's you know it is.
00:30:54.654 --> 00:30:55.636
But I'll tell you what.
00:30:55.636 --> 00:31:01.238
When I did get released from prison, my mind was straight yeah, I knew what I was going to do.
00:31:01.238 --> 00:31:02.564
I knew what I had to do.
00:31:02.564 --> 00:31:09.302
I knew I was going to be on parole for a minute and I got released, went right back to flagstaff I was living with my little brother, toby.
00:31:09.302 --> 00:31:16.085
I got a job working in a paint and body shop.
00:31:16.085 --> 00:31:23.083
Work completed, my parole 100% done, and I moved back to Texas for a while.
00:31:23.083 --> 00:31:31.355
I was living back over there, you know, by the way, a good thing that came out of all this prison.
00:31:32.105 --> 00:31:40.700
I hadn't seen my first love for 20 years probably.
00:31:40.700 --> 00:31:44.194
She had already been married twice, had two kids, two children.
00:31:44.194 --> 00:31:46.370
She found my name.
00:31:46.370 --> 00:31:47.954
My name came across her desk.
00:31:47.954 --> 00:31:51.915
She was a lead child support enforcement officer and he flagged that.
00:31:51.915 --> 00:31:54.372
Yeah, my name came across her desk.
00:31:54.372 --> 00:31:55.990
Well, she looked me up.
00:31:55.990 --> 00:31:59.514
I was in Oklahoma prison because they had transferred a bunch of us out of the state.
00:31:59.514 --> 00:32:00.677
We were overcrowded, yeah, yeah.
00:32:00.677 --> 00:32:02.451
So I got a letter from her.
00:32:02.451 --> 00:32:04.531
We've been together ever since we got married.
00:32:04.752 --> 00:32:04.994
What?
00:32:04.994 --> 00:32:07.286
That's amazing.
00:32:07.286 --> 00:32:08.528
What are the odds of that too?
00:32:08.528 --> 00:32:09.909
Dude Coming across the desk.
00:32:09.909 --> 00:32:10.950
Is that just not?
00:32:11.250 --> 00:32:22.342
good right there, because when I got the letter from her, I was even with another woman at the time we were going to get married and I said listen, I'm sorry, but I love this woman right here.
00:32:22.342 --> 00:32:28.613
I am not trying to break your heart, but I'm not going to lie to you and carry you on some bullshit.
00:32:28.613 --> 00:32:29.335
They ain't gonna have right.
00:32:29.335 --> 00:32:30.318
And it broke her heart, it didn't.
00:32:30.318 --> 00:32:33.088
I felt horrible but, bro, I love this woman if it's the one, it's the one you know.
00:32:33.189 --> 00:32:33.992
Everything else like.
00:32:33.992 --> 00:32:39.114
Unfortunately, there are a bunch of laws and things and other things that keep you from just being able to do that.
00:32:39.114 --> 00:32:45.890
But if you feel it, you feel you know it, you're gonna go all in on it you know, she stuck with me even while I was in prison.
00:32:45.910 --> 00:32:46.990
She wrote me all the time.
00:32:46.990 --> 00:32:50.436
Well, for eight years she kept waiting for me to get out.
00:32:50.436 --> 00:32:53.760
Wow, and I got out, went to her.
00:32:53.760 --> 00:32:58.614
She had an apartment in Flagstaff so we went there.
00:32:58.614 --> 00:33:03.394
I didn't go right there right away because the apartment complex wouldn't allow a convicted felon to live in it.
00:33:03.575 --> 00:33:03.894
Really.
00:33:03.894 --> 00:33:05.900
You know, what I mean, yeah, wow.
00:33:08.785 --> 00:33:09.729
I didn't know you could even do that.
00:33:09.729 --> 00:33:09.990
Yeah, they do.
00:33:09.990 --> 00:33:10.050
So.
00:33:10.050 --> 00:33:11.677
She said, fuck them, come live here anyway, nice.
00:33:11.677 --> 00:33:12.401
And which I did.
00:33:12.401 --> 00:33:16.516
And six months later she got me Bixen notice, because they found out I was there.
00:33:16.516 --> 00:33:19.269
You did it for love, though.
00:33:19.269 --> 00:33:24.973
I did so, see, and I moved to Texas for a year or so.
00:33:24.973 --> 00:33:28.260
Yeah, we didn't like it there, you know.
00:33:28.260 --> 00:33:32.088
I just really went there because my mom's elderly and I just wanted to be with her as much as I can.
00:33:32.088 --> 00:33:34.715
She's still alive, so from there we moved here.
00:33:35.477 --> 00:33:40.153
Really so before here in Oklahoma, texas, arizona.
00:33:40.153 --> 00:33:42.057
That's where the main story is.
00:33:42.057 --> 00:33:44.771
That's where all the stories are All the stories.
00:33:44.771 --> 00:33:45.757
That's where all the stories are All the stories.
00:33:45.757 --> 00:33:46.802
And then, when did you get here?
00:33:48.265 --> 00:33:48.766
Not too long ago.
00:33:48.766 --> 00:33:53.076
I got here in 2021.
00:33:53.076 --> 00:33:56.443
Okay 2021.
00:33:56.463 --> 00:33:56.585
Mm-hmm.
00:33:58.288 --> 00:34:01.457
I think I got here in like 17 or 18 years, I don't know.
00:34:01.457 --> 00:34:07.870
But yeah, that's true, man, you haven't been here for long, and that's when I got the job where we used to work at.
00:34:07.870 --> 00:34:10.858
Yeah, I had a lot of fun while we did been here for long and that's when I got the job where we used to work at.
00:34:10.878 --> 00:34:16.215
Yeah Uh, I had a lot of fun while we did that Me too, brother, and I learned a lot from you too, like welding shit.
00:34:16.215 --> 00:34:18.588
You'd always let me come weld and we'd do all that.
00:34:19.070 --> 00:34:22.127
You know, yeah, I enjoy showing some people like that.
00:34:22.127 --> 00:34:22.907
Man, I really do.
00:34:22.907 --> 00:34:29.635
It's just stuff that I got two welders right here, man, what are you going to be doing If you still live here?
00:34:29.635 --> 00:34:31.657
Man, I'm going to be showing you a whole bunch of shit.
00:34:31.657 --> 00:34:33.239
I'm sure you're going to build a motor.
00:34:33.239 --> 00:34:37.606
You want to do anything when you're doing lawnmower?
00:34:37.606 --> 00:34:38.347
I'm going to build it.
00:34:38.367 --> 00:34:40.650
I'm going to video it and put it on your thing, Do it.
00:34:40.650 --> 00:34:41.311
Do it For real.
00:34:41.311 --> 00:34:45.916
I mean, I remember when you first done so much work to it and cleaned it up.
00:34:46.016 --> 00:34:49.000
A ton and I'm trying to get screwed out of it right now.
00:34:49.000 --> 00:34:53.949
Yeah, that's what you're saying, you know, and that's just something that's going to.
00:34:53.949 --> 00:34:55.313
I feel 100% that I'm going to win.
00:34:55.313 --> 00:34:56.456
Yeah, I do.
00:34:56.456 --> 00:34:57.097
This is my home.
00:34:57.097 --> 00:34:57.918
I built a home here.
00:34:57.918 --> 00:34:58.822
Yeah, I did.
00:34:58.822 --> 00:35:04.471
And when I'm going to?
00:35:04.490 --> 00:35:04.731
get it done.
00:35:04.731 --> 00:35:12.108
I, you don't be around, I am, yeah, man, you got to keep the good around you, that fatso right there, arrested from Tasty Trust Company.
00:35:12.327 --> 00:35:13.409
I, like the cop, that's me.
00:35:13.409 --> 00:35:14.150
This would be Ron's dog.
00:35:14.150 --> 00:35:15.612
Remember, she's called Pepe.
00:35:15.612 --> 00:35:16.653
That's Pepe.
00:35:16.653 --> 00:35:19.016
Yeah, oh shit, you know, pepe.
00:35:19.016 --> 00:35:31.534
Yeah, I know.
00:35:31.534 --> 00:35:33.074
Look how big she is.
00:35:33.074 --> 00:35:35.436
Yeah, an ideal best friend.
00:35:35.436 --> 00:35:36.498
She loves him, bro.
00:35:36.498 --> 00:35:37.619
She's sweet, she's awesome.
00:35:37.619 --> 00:35:38.000
I love her.
00:35:38.000 --> 00:35:38.840
I tried to cut him.
00:35:38.840 --> 00:35:40.081
Good luck with that.
00:35:40.081 --> 00:35:42.909
Good luck with that.
00:35:42.909 --> 00:35:44.893
I don't want to get off the track or anything.
00:35:44.893 --> 00:35:47.077
No, no, you're good, we're on the right track.
00:35:49.845 --> 00:35:50.563
I don't know where to start All that Montaigne anything.
00:35:50.563 --> 00:35:51.266
No, no, you're good, we're right on the right track.
00:35:51.266 --> 00:35:52.509
So I'll know where to start all that Montana stuff.
00:35:52.509 --> 00:35:56.615
Okay, so major, you know events.
00:35:56.615 --> 00:35:59.512
What do we have here?
00:35:59.512 --> 00:36:04.014
If we missed any that aren't in prison, or something?
00:36:04.224 --> 00:36:10.773
I've been thrown in jail twice and extradited back to Arizona on some false time to things I already got in Arizona.
00:36:10.773 --> 00:36:12.217
Yeah, long time ago.
00:36:12.217 --> 00:36:17.875
They sent me back, put me in jail, arrested me here on a warrant for failure to appear for some sins.
00:36:17.875 --> 00:36:24.534
I already did time on in Arizona and yeah, and so they extradited twice in a year.
00:36:24.534 --> 00:36:31.541
Within a year I paid a $5,000 bond, bonded out and they came in and arrested me again a year later at Casey's Trust Company.
00:36:31.541 --> 00:36:33.210
Bro, lost my job.
00:36:33.210 --> 00:36:37.436
So that started a whole different process of losing everything that I just worked for.
00:36:37.436 --> 00:36:40.112
I know People coming out here stealing all my shit.
00:36:40.112 --> 00:36:46.990
These idiots that own this Signed a notarized contract at their own fucking bank and they're trying to dispute it.
00:36:46.990 --> 00:36:49.865
Bro, I'm paying for the.
00:36:49.865 --> 00:36:52.092
They ain't paid me a dime for electricity since January.
00:36:52.092 --> 00:36:54.057
Damn, it's fucked up.
00:36:54.057 --> 00:36:56.751
It is that's you know what.
00:36:56.791 --> 00:36:57.677
I mean, I mean yeah.
00:36:57.759 --> 00:37:06.072
Energy Bill and I though, bro Dude, I had three dudes come out here, three dudes, grown men, come out here and try to, and I bossed them all right in the fucking mouth, yeah, and they took me to jail for that shit.
00:37:06.072 --> 00:37:06.592
That didn't matter.
00:37:06.592 --> 00:37:07.976
Yeah, and they arrested me.
00:37:07.976 --> 00:37:09.557
I'm the one who called the Sheriff's Department.
00:37:09.557 --> 00:37:11.740
I told them well, why are they all bleeding?
00:37:11.740 --> 00:37:12.742
And there ain't nothing wrong with you.
00:37:12.742 --> 00:37:20.528
I said, well, they obviously don't know how to defend themselves.
00:37:20.528 --> 00:37:21.250
What do you think?
00:37:21.250 --> 00:37:24.231
They don't know how to fight and I shouldn't go to jail to get done.
00:37:24.231 --> 00:37:32.938
But they were dragging me through this 24-7 alcohol program had to go there twice a day, bro, all the way into the sheriff's department.
00:37:32.938 --> 00:37:33.298
That's crazy.
00:37:33.298 --> 00:37:37.840
And pay for the testing and pay, it's 25 miles, it's 100 miles a day.
00:37:37.860 --> 00:37:53.068
I was driving and I'm on Social Security, bro and like, I've seen friends like younger people that, like that, dui wiped out their money and're barely getting a license, high insurance, sr-22, and then they still gotta go check in.
00:37:53.068 --> 00:37:54.153
How do they even go to work?
00:37:54.153 --> 00:37:56.012
They're barely X age.
00:37:56.012 --> 00:37:58.414
Their job isn't great, it's fucked up.
00:37:58.605 --> 00:38:02.130
Three and a half months I went through that, Never had one violation.
00:38:02.130 --> 00:38:04.391
Alcohol wasn't even in the factor.
00:38:04.391 --> 00:38:06.208
I don't even know why I had to go do that shit.
00:38:06.208 --> 00:38:08.735
Yeah right, what the fuck?
00:38:08.735 --> 00:38:14.432
Yeah, you know I'm on my property, they're defending my personal property and they take me to jail for a misdemeanor assault.
00:38:14.432 --> 00:38:18.864
Three truck counts on three people Just do whatever you want.
00:38:18.864 --> 00:38:21.371
That's why I had to take a plea bargain here just a couple weeks ago.
00:38:21.371 --> 00:38:22.275
I know.
00:38:23.389 --> 00:38:26.066
No, they do stuff like that Plea bargain, Please Bargain.
00:38:43.677 --> 00:38:44.617
Sorry about that Bargain.
00:38:44.617 --> 00:38:45.637
It's good, bro, that's all.
00:38:45.637 --> 00:38:46.358
Hey, hey, we don't like this.
00:38:46.358 --> 00:38:47.099
Hey, hey, this is dumb.
00:38:47.099 --> 00:38:47.860
I don't know, that's all.
00:38:47.860 --> 00:38:48.559
Hey, hey, we know all this.
00:38:48.559 --> 00:38:49.481
Hey, hey, man, let's don't.
00:38:49.481 --> 00:38:50.461
I don't know what you mean.
00:38:50.461 --> 00:38:52.041
Hey, hey, how about mama?
00:38:52.041 --> 00:38:53.302
She's like no, oh, dear mama.
00:38:55.048 --> 00:38:55.648
My sister.
00:38:55.648 --> 00:39:11.940
She was like the oldest of like me and my brother and all the cousins and when my dad, mom, aunts and uncles get together they just like pawn all of those kids off in the living room with the big screen and we just like nightmare on elm street, jason movies, you know like.
00:39:11.940 --> 00:39:15.621
But my sister was the oldest and she looked after all of us so we all called her mamas.
00:39:15.621 --> 00:39:19.023
So I still to this day, well, she is like your mom.
00:39:19.063 --> 00:39:23.588
You know, mom, I can totally relate to that and you know I'm the.
00:39:23.588 --> 00:39:32.595
You know movies, horror movies, I just you know Other shit is dumb, but I mean it really is.
00:39:32.595 --> 00:39:38.539
I have no interest in some dumbass drama, shit, no okay, I get what you're saying, I like documentaries.
00:39:38.920 --> 00:39:39.740
I like documentaries.
00:39:39.740 --> 00:39:41.541
Yeah, yeah, I like to watch the paranormal stuff.
00:39:41.541 --> 00:39:43.849
Oh, yeah, me too.
00:39:43.849 --> 00:39:47.215
Ufos and shit, ufos, any paranormal ghost, ghosts and shit.
00:39:47.215 --> 00:39:50.492
Yeah, I don't like demons, exorcism shit.
00:39:50.492 --> 00:39:53.228
It's gnarly shit.
00:39:53.228 --> 00:39:54.934
I don't ever want nothing to have to do with that.
00:39:54.934 --> 00:39:56.590
No, they don't.
00:39:58.909 --> 00:40:02.528
I know people that are sensitive to that shit too, and they see shit like since they were kids.
00:40:02.528 --> 00:40:03.451
They've been seeing shit.
00:40:03.471 --> 00:40:07.298
That's what they call it and they have.
00:40:07.298 --> 00:40:11.704
But they see, they can see that, yeah, dead people.
00:40:11.704 --> 00:40:19.905
I don't think I want to live that kind of life that'd be a lot, doing it every day too you ever have any kind of paranormal experience?
00:40:20.949 --> 00:40:22.565
I have, yeah, one.
00:40:22.565 --> 00:40:26.432
Actually I've had a few in Montana, couple like UFO shits.
00:40:26.432 --> 00:40:40.695
But I was closing down the bar I was working for and one of my friends came to visit and she's she's been seeing that shit since she was a kid and all this stuff and everything is done closing.
00:40:40.695 --> 00:40:43.050
I'm doing the last steps.
00:40:43.050 --> 00:40:44.307
I go to the bathroom.
00:40:44.307 --> 00:40:45.010
She goes to the bathroom.
00:40:45.010 --> 00:40:45.412
We come back.
00:40:45.412 --> 00:40:47.753
The door was like locked.
00:40:47.753 --> 00:40:49.170
It had like a two by four that you put in.
00:40:49.170 --> 00:40:50.574
Yeah, we didn't even touch it.
00:40:51.137 --> 00:40:55.817
Uh, the jukebox kicked in out of nowhere and then like banging happened in the like.
00:40:55.817 --> 00:41:02.461
All these things happened in a succession which ended in us hearing people talking on the other side of the bar.
00:41:02.461 --> 00:41:06.070
But we're the only people in the bar and we were like listening to happen.
00:41:06.070 --> 00:41:08.155
We're're like we're getting the fuck out of here.
00:41:08.155 --> 00:41:09.257
And we did.
00:41:09.257 --> 00:41:27.409
On the way out we heard wind chimes and when we talked for a little bit in the car, going over all the crazy shit, I go home, I start researching and it comes up about wind chimes and that's the last step in, like somebody trying to come over from the other side.
00:41:27.409 --> 00:41:33.661
Before they come and do it, you start to hear like wind chimes, right, and that's after something physically happens.
00:41:33.661 --> 00:41:39.766
And like all the things happened and we're on the last step right and we ran the out and it was crazy just out of nowhere.
00:41:39.766 --> 00:41:42.619
So was it always one time for you or what?
00:41:42.619 --> 00:41:44.646
Just that one time, that one time that happened?
00:41:44.646 --> 00:41:46.630
But I have heard them before.
00:41:46.630 --> 00:41:47.474
Think of the past.
00:41:47.653 --> 00:41:48.777
I'll tell you what happens.
00:41:48.777 --> 00:41:55.659
By the way, one of my best friends brought here just a month ago His name was Jim.
00:41:55.659 --> 00:41:58.835
He ran over on his holiday and died what?
00:41:58.835 --> 00:42:00.271
Yeah, and he was a great dude man.
00:42:00.271 --> 00:42:01.891
He was just like you are.
00:42:01.891 --> 00:42:11.278
We were very close, yeah, and I went to his funeral and his wife gave me this light bulb in memory of him.
00:42:11.278 --> 00:42:15.514
It's in that light thing where I see that silver thing.
00:42:15.514 --> 00:42:16.757
It's not even plugged in.
00:42:16.757 --> 00:42:21.748
Well, Three days ago, four days ago, it turned bleak On and off.
00:42:21.748 --> 00:42:23.960
I was down here doing some work by myself.
00:42:23.960 --> 00:42:24.844
I swear to God.
00:42:27.231 --> 00:42:28.956
No, like a fuse or something like that.
00:42:28.996 --> 00:42:30.989
No bro, it's not even plugged into nothing.
00:42:30.989 --> 00:42:33.135
Oh shit, yeah, you're right on, it's just in the core.
00:42:33.135 --> 00:42:35.918
If you plug it into the outlet, it's not even plugged in.
00:42:35.918 --> 00:42:38.367
That's fucked up, and I'm telling you.
00:42:38.367 --> 00:42:47.139
It blinked like five, six times and stayed on for a good 30 seconds at a time, bro, I'm going to find this video.
00:42:47.159 --> 00:42:48.561
I have on my phone buried somewhere.
00:42:48.561 --> 00:42:55.994
But it was a couple years ago and the girl I was dating living with.
00:42:55.994 --> 00:42:57.438
She was going to bed early, had work.
00:42:57.438 --> 00:43:00.173
I would stay in the living room and watch movies or whatever.
00:43:00.173 --> 00:43:04.536
I was out there and there was a balloon that I got for like Valentine's Day.
00:43:04.536 --> 00:43:14.255
It floated about as far as like to your camper all the way into the living room from a bedroom where the door was closed and I knew it was closed.
00:43:14.255 --> 00:43:20.706
All the doors were closed to keep the air, like you know, circulating the way it was, and I'm just like sitting there watching a movie.
00:43:21.027 --> 00:43:22.990
It's a little dark until I see this.
00:43:22.990 --> 00:43:25.396
Before I even see it, I see the dogs.
00:43:25.396 --> 00:43:33.336
One's on the couch, uh, benny and win Winston's on the ground and I see him lift his head up and they both all look to the hallway Isn't that amazing?
00:43:33.336 --> 00:43:48.949
And then the thing starts fucking coming in and he gets freaked out and starts walking away and I'm like tripping that this is even happening and I'm like, oh, I jump up and I run, I turn the lights on in the kitchen, I go in the room and I'm like, yo, there's a fucking ghost, there's a ghost in.
00:43:48.949 --> 00:43:49.869
You know like freaking out.
00:43:50.590 --> 00:43:59.519
But long story short, like I would go in, like after I talked to her, I went back in and the balloon was gone and then I freaked out about that.
00:43:59.519 --> 00:44:03.541
So I ran back in there and she was like you're tripping, you're tripping.
00:44:03.541 --> 00:44:08.751
I went back out there again and it was gone and I I was like I'm not tripping, that's fucked up.
00:44:08.751 --> 00:44:14.289
I locked myself in the room for 20 minutes and I just like she was sleeping so I couldn't like take my mind off of it.
00:44:14.289 --> 00:44:19.626
And I went back out there and it was like it was like sitting in the regular fucking spot.
00:44:19.626 --> 00:44:20.929
Yeah, I mean, it was.
00:44:20.929 --> 00:44:22.273
It was crazy.
00:44:22.333 --> 00:44:26.128
I speak up all night bro, that's the kind of shit that'll make you think your mind.
00:44:26.128 --> 00:44:26.909
You're losing your mind.
00:44:26.909 --> 00:44:28.414
I mean, what are you supposed to think?
00:44:28.414 --> 00:44:29.978
No windows open, no, nothing.
00:44:29.978 --> 00:44:35.630
But you know, you have that in you, but you already know Something ain't right here.
00:44:35.630 --> 00:44:39.874
You know Whether it's some demonic shit or whether it's just a good spirit.
00:44:39.874 --> 00:44:40.737
You don't know.
00:44:41.644 --> 00:44:46.266
I remember her saying that she thinks there's a little kid that lives in the house Like a little boy.
00:44:46.307 --> 00:44:48.875
Yeah, but for the dogs to just give and leave, you know it was crazy.
00:44:48.875 --> 00:44:52.059
They could see that shit right, I know Any dogs can see, they see all that shit.
00:44:52.306 --> 00:44:53.250
He's looking over there right now.
00:44:53.269 --> 00:44:53.771
I'll tell you what.
00:44:53.771 --> 00:45:07.418
She was in here with me that night and she was laying right there on the bed right here and she was staring, would not take her eyes off that, um, it is crazy, but I knew it was jim brown.
00:45:07.438 --> 00:45:20.199
I didn't have no bad feeling, no, vibe yeah, yeah yeah, and it was just him, because his wife they went and stole all his hearties, his other kids that were involved in the death, and they were.
00:45:20.199 --> 00:45:20.539
They were not.
00:45:20.539 --> 00:45:21.724
So he was married to another woman, bro.
00:45:21.724 --> 00:45:24.251
So they claimed everything that he had.
00:45:24.251 --> 00:45:28.851
And but this other woman that he is married to now, yeah, didn't have no rights to tell me this shit, bro.
00:45:28.851 --> 00:45:31.215
So I went and checked on her.
00:45:31.215 --> 00:45:34.398
Yeah well, she wouldn't answer her door, wouldn't answer her.
00:45:34.418 --> 00:45:37.012
My phone calls nothing, and still hasn't to this day.
00:45:37.012 --> 00:45:40.911
What shell, that's funny.
00:45:40.911 --> 00:45:42.233
I went to her sometimes.
00:45:42.233 --> 00:45:47.644
I said listen, dude, you don't produce her like immediately.
00:45:47.644 --> 00:45:50.938
Uh, you don't produce her like immediately.
00:45:50.938 --> 00:45:52.485
There's some shit's going down, bro.
00:45:52.485 --> 00:45:54.817
So I get a text message saying it's from her.
00:45:54.817 --> 00:45:57.331
She's fine, blah, blah, blah.
00:45:57.331 --> 00:45:58.929
And I don't think it was from her at all.
00:45:58.929 --> 00:46:02.672
No, no, I think something bad happened to her.
00:46:02.672 --> 00:46:03.635
That's what I think.
00:46:03.635 --> 00:46:09.972
But I just can't get involved in that kind of a situation right now, brother.
00:46:09.972 --> 00:46:19.596
I can't Because my life is on the line here and if I go do something over there, it's going to ruin everything that I've worked so hard for out here.
00:46:19.596 --> 00:46:25.037
So in time I'll find out and I'll deal with it then.
00:46:25.965 --> 00:46:28.068
You're well on your way to figuring everything out.
00:46:28.068 --> 00:46:30.092
How about in the next chapter?
00:46:30.231 --> 00:46:31.253
I got injured, man.
00:46:31.253 --> 00:46:32.115
I'll deal with it then.
00:46:32.115 --> 00:46:34.378
You're well on your way to figuring everything out.
00:46:34.378 --> 00:46:36.141
How about in the next chapter?
00:46:36.141 --> 00:46:36.963
I got injured, man.
00:46:36.963 --> 00:46:38.405
I broke my lower lumbar spine ball just a year ago.
00:46:38.405 --> 00:46:52.192
I fell off that loader over there that's sitting up in the field where I rebuilt.
00:46:52.391 --> 00:46:58.916
It's a 1958 payloader that was left here.
00:46:58.916 --> 00:47:01.197
Really, yeah, you ever seen it?
00:47:01.197 --> 00:47:01.978
No, I'll show you.
00:47:01.978 --> 00:47:02.918
Yeah, I'll check it out.
00:47:02.918 --> 00:47:04.699
I'll show you Cool shits that don't break.
00:47:04.739 --> 00:47:07.400
I take care of any small engine we got that don't run.
00:47:07.400 --> 00:47:10.262
We hear a lot more car tractors.
00:47:10.302 --> 00:47:11.842
Oh, the tractor with the blades.
00:47:14.027 --> 00:47:15.731
You all know that shit.
00:47:15.731 --> 00:47:18.798
And professionally, you know these are the toolboxes.
00:47:18.798 --> 00:47:19.871
I used to have a lot.
00:47:19.871 --> 00:47:20.882
You've seen my toolboxes in the past.
00:47:20.882 --> 00:47:22.409
I still got a lot left.
00:47:22.409 --> 00:47:23.472
I do yeah.
00:47:25.666 --> 00:47:30.016
Did you bring any tools from when you left Texas and all that?
00:47:30.016 --> 00:47:31.869
What did you come here with when you moved down?
00:47:31.869 --> 00:47:32.150
Nothing.
00:47:32.351 --> 00:47:33.536
Nothing, absolutely nothing.
00:47:33.536 --> 00:47:42.416
I've accumulated all of these toolboxes, all the tools, everything on my own within the last three years, really, yeah.
00:47:44.438 --> 00:47:45.521
Damn You've done.
00:47:45.561 --> 00:47:47.605
well, See that motorcycle sitting right there.
00:47:47.605 --> 00:47:54.537
That's a Kawasaki 250 dirt bike, and my neighbor down in the bottom of the canyon gave that one to me and he gave me this.
00:47:54.537 --> 00:47:58.175
That's a Honda CB450 bull street bike.
00:47:58.175 --> 00:48:03.929
And they were just sitting down there in the dirt and the weeds were all growing up around them.
00:48:03.949 --> 00:48:05.615
They don't look bad, though they look good.
00:48:06.606 --> 00:48:09.157
I'm going to restore them?
00:48:09.157 --> 00:48:13.478
I must, certainly am and then I'm going to sell them.
00:48:13.557 --> 00:48:15.503
I'm going to sell them because I'm broke.
00:48:16.186 --> 00:48:17.652
You ain't got to give me no cash, darling.
00:48:20.449 --> 00:48:21.874
I think I missed you, bro.
00:48:21.874 --> 00:48:22.516
It's been a minute.
00:48:22.516 --> 00:48:27.173
I'm glad you stayed in touch, though, man dude, I don't know how much it's been.
00:48:27.213 --> 00:48:31.733
It's not hard, it was easy, even asking for any help because it's a.
00:48:31.733 --> 00:48:36.271
You know it's a, not a fight, but it's just something that I don't like to fucking do.
00:48:36.271 --> 00:48:40.632
Bro, you and me both, bro, I was in such a situation that I didn't have no fucking choice.
00:48:41.494 --> 00:48:41.996
I get it.
00:48:50.065 --> 00:48:53.659
I to me and I know, you know, and I can't tell you um how much it meant to me even before that, bro, you were all you were.
00:48:53.679 --> 00:49:05.110
Just I don't know, bro, just the connection that we had was just like automatic fucking thing man I uh, I was, because I worked there for a couple years too and when I got back, matt was there and he's like, yeah, that's tom, he's the mechanic.
00:49:05.110 --> 00:49:08.626
And we hit it off and I was like, man, it's cool as fuck.
00:49:08.626 --> 00:49:09.809
And then you taught me all sorts.
00:49:09.809 --> 00:49:10.911
And I was like, man, this dude's cool as fuck.
00:49:10.911 --> 00:49:12.333
And then you taught me all sorts of shit.
00:49:12.333 --> 00:49:16.849
It was cool, man, like it was just cool to come and see you, you know, every now and then it was.
00:49:16.889 --> 00:49:18.132
You didn't see nobody else out there.
00:49:18.132 --> 00:49:22.512
I didn't want nobody else out there and I was cool with Matt.
00:49:25.849 --> 00:49:26.835
Matt, me and Pat don't have any oh.
