Joining me in the studio today, we've got Glenn Morrison from Faith Nation Church.
00:02:24.639 --> 00:02:25.919
Glenn, man, how you doing?
00:02:26.159 --> 00:02:27.039
I'm doing pretty well.
00:02:27.280 --> 00:02:27.759
Doing good?
00:02:28.479 --> 00:02:29.120
I'm glad to be here.
00:02:29.280 --> 00:02:30.879
Hey, I'm excited you came down.
00:02:31.199 --> 00:02:31.520
Yes, sir.
00:02:31.599 --> 00:02:31.840
Yes, sir.
00:02:31.919 --> 00:02:33.120
So glad we got connected.
00:02:33.280 --> 00:02:37.599
I'm excited to learn about you, learn about the church, other stuff you got going on, the whole nine, man.
00:02:37.759 --> 00:02:42.960
So, but before we get into the church and all the other stuff, let's just learn a little bit about, I should say Pastor Glenn, right?
00:02:43.039 --> 00:02:44.560
Let's learn about let's learn about you, man.
00:02:44.800 --> 00:02:49.599
So my name is obviously Pastor Glenn Morrison, born and raised here in Springfield, Illinois.
00:02:49.759 --> 00:02:53.759
And since we're talking about pastoralship, I'm actually a fourth generation pastor.
00:02:53.840 --> 00:02:54.000
Okay.
00:02:54.319 --> 00:02:55.919
Here in Springfield, Illinois.
00:02:56.159 --> 00:03:01.439
Married to Jada Morrison, who happens to be uh an up-and-coming gospel recording artist.
00:03:01.680 --> 00:03:02.000
Nice.
00:03:02.159 --> 00:03:08.000
And uh together we have been married going on 13 years and have three amazing children.
00:03:08.159 --> 00:03:09.759
Shout out to my children, they're amazing.
00:03:10.240 --> 00:03:12.240
JL is the oldest at nine.
00:03:12.479 --> 00:03:17.039
Ariel is six, and we call him Diggy, but he's Darrell Glenn the third.
00:03:17.360 --> 00:03:17.599
All right.
00:03:17.680 --> 00:03:18.800
And he's uh four.
00:03:18.879 --> 00:03:19.520
So nice.
00:03:19.680 --> 00:03:20.080
Yeah, yeah.
00:03:20.159 --> 00:03:23.039
That's a little bit about me for what it for what it's worth.
00:03:23.199 --> 00:03:25.039
Graduated from probably the best high school here.
00:03:25.439 --> 00:03:27.520
I was I was gonna ask you if you didn't say it, which one is it?
00:03:27.680 --> 00:03:28.400
Southeast high side.
00:03:28.960 --> 00:03:29.199
There you go.
00:03:29.280 --> 00:03:29.439
Yeah.
00:03:29.599 --> 00:03:30.960
Yeah, the East Side made me into that.
00:03:31.120 --> 00:03:31.599
Yeah, yeah.
00:03:31.680 --> 00:03:31.919
Okay.
00:03:32.080 --> 00:03:32.400
All right.
00:03:32.560 --> 00:03:33.439
Awesome, awesome.
00:03:33.599 --> 00:03:37.039
So back in the Southeast days, what were you involved with back then?
00:03:37.120 --> 00:03:43.680
Do you always know you're gonna become a pastor and be that fourth generation, or are you thinking some other stuff while you were a Spartan there?
00:03:43.919 --> 00:03:45.599
Well, it's actually uh funny that you asked.
00:03:45.759 --> 00:03:50.560
That's a major part of my testimony, is that I spent the first year playing basketball.
00:03:50.639 --> 00:03:52.800
I was a pretty good, good basketball player in my day.
00:03:53.199 --> 00:03:55.360
Um, I thought I was gonna play all four years.
00:03:55.520 --> 00:04:01.199
Circumstances, or or I would say uh political reasons, didn't allow that to see itself through.
00:04:01.360 --> 00:04:01.599
Sure.
00:04:01.759 --> 00:04:05.120
And so I was already pretty well enhanced in music.
00:04:05.280 --> 00:04:06.879
I grew up playing the drums in church.
00:04:06.960 --> 00:04:10.159
And uh in high school, I started to pick up piano, to learn a little piano.
00:04:10.400 --> 00:04:11.199
Shout out to Mr.
00:04:11.360 --> 00:04:15.759
Michael Bayer, an amazing, the most amazing music teacher ever.
00:04:15.840 --> 00:04:16.079
Uh-huh.
00:04:16.240 --> 00:04:23.279
There were so many things he was teaching me in that time that, you know, they were going over my head, but now kind of maturing in music, got a better understanding for that.
00:04:23.360 --> 00:04:41.839
But anyway, started to pick up piano playing, and what happened was is that as kind of basketball kind of took an end in my life, basically I started to pick up music a lot more heavily and started to take on a leadership role in my church as far as music and playing, and then started to play around town in some different other churches and help.
00:04:41.920 --> 00:04:59.600
Um but the the reason why I said it's a major part of my testimony is because through my season of, I didn't have a major season of defiance, but uh through my season of kind of finding Christ for myself, the music is what had to keep me coming into the church and being committed at a much higher level than just the average goer.
00:04:59.680 --> 00:05:12.959
And so I think when I started to really mature as into a young adult, the music, I realized how much of a huge role that it played in the church and how much of a connection I had to have with at the time would be my grandfather, who was the pastor.
00:05:13.120 --> 00:05:27.600
And so as things kind of to start to unfold and me having to kind of be right at his side to understand ministry from multiple different angles there, I started to realize the the burden of carrying ministry and how important pastoralship is and winning souls.
00:05:27.680 --> 00:05:32.399
And I started to see the sacrifices my grandfather and my father would make just to win souls.
00:05:32.480 --> 00:05:32.639
Right.
00:05:32.800 --> 00:05:44.879
And so it was kind of really in that time frame that God kind of let me take my little venture out into the world and then come back very, very short after, I mean, to even say I was married by 20.
00:05:45.040 --> 00:05:45.199
Okay.
00:05:45.279 --> 00:05:52.560
So I had made up a made a decision by 20 that hey, crisis is the way and I need to buckle down and be serious about this thing.
00:05:52.720 --> 00:05:53.040
Sure.
00:05:53.199 --> 00:05:57.600
So hopefully that gives you a little run down memory lane of what high school looked like for me.
00:05:57.759 --> 00:05:58.000
Yeah.
00:05:58.160 --> 00:05:58.480
Yeah.
00:05:59.279 --> 00:06:06.079
And the reason why I uh reference music and playing in the church even at that time is just it started to consume a lot of my time.
00:06:06.240 --> 00:06:08.959
Not in a bad way, but definitely a good way.
00:06:09.120 --> 00:06:12.720
So I found myself having to play for a live event throughout high school.
00:06:12.800 --> 00:06:16.720
I felt like I was living like an adult life throughout high school.
00:06:16.879 --> 00:06:20.240
And so that's kind of how I'm sitting here with you here today.
00:06:20.480 --> 00:06:21.040
Absolutely.
00:06:21.199 --> 00:06:22.800
So you said fourth generation.
00:06:22.879 --> 00:06:26.160
Is that fourth generation of pastors in Springfield?
00:06:26.399 --> 00:06:28.319
Yes, actually, one of the oldest churches.
00:06:28.399 --> 00:06:30.959
You'll find it on Martin Luther King Drive.
00:06:31.120 --> 00:06:31.360
Uh-huh.
00:06:31.439 --> 00:06:33.920
There's a church by the name of Prayer Will Church.
00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:36.800
And my great grandfather, he birthed that church.
00:06:36.879 --> 00:06:37.120
Okay.
00:06:37.279 --> 00:06:38.399
He built it from the ground up.
00:06:38.480 --> 00:06:40.319
I mean, it was an amazing ministry.
00:06:40.399 --> 00:06:44.319
And his son, which would be my grandfather, was his assistant pastor for a time.
00:06:44.879 --> 00:06:47.759
And then God called him out to start his own ministry.
00:06:47.920 --> 00:06:54.319
And that's where Emmanuel Temple Church on the corner of Ash and Taylor was built from the ground up from my grandfather.
00:06:54.560 --> 00:06:54.959
So cool.
00:06:55.279 --> 00:06:57.360
And then my father was his assistant pastor.
00:06:57.519 --> 00:06:57.839
Okay.
00:06:58.160 --> 00:07:00.639
Well, now my father pastors that church.
00:07:00.800 --> 00:07:03.839
And I still am his assistant pastor or executive pastor.
00:07:03.920 --> 00:07:08.319
And uh just recently, about three or four years ago, God told me that I was going to start my own ministry.
00:07:08.399 --> 00:07:14.160
And with where the church is now, with the nonprofit going and we have a couple programs going and things like that.
00:07:14.319 --> 00:07:17.199
God even allowed me to move into full-time ministry.
00:07:17.360 --> 00:07:19.279
I just was like, this can't be God.
00:07:19.360 --> 00:07:20.879
I start my own ministry.
00:07:21.040 --> 00:07:23.360
And so I finally accepted the call.
00:07:23.439 --> 00:07:30.000
And a little over a year ago, that's where God called me to leave my father's church and birth out Faith Nation Church.
00:07:30.240 --> 00:07:30.800
That's awesome.
00:07:31.040 --> 00:07:34.319
And just for the sake of it, I haven't built the church from the ground up.
00:07:34.480 --> 00:07:40.959
I built the ministry from the ground up, but we are located on the kind of like the going towards the west end of town off on Douglas Avenue.
00:07:41.040 --> 00:07:41.600
So Okay.
00:07:41.759 --> 00:07:45.920
And was the church there as a building and you just went to plant your ministry in there?
00:07:46.000 --> 00:07:46.639
Or how'd that work?
00:07:46.959 --> 00:07:52.639
So, yes, we were able to acquire and purchase a building that used to be Heritage Free Will Baptist Church.
00:07:52.800 --> 00:07:52.959
Okay.
00:07:53.120 --> 00:07:53.439
Gotcha.
00:07:53.759 --> 00:07:56.879
So now we're in there and we're just seeing what the Lord wants to do.
00:07:57.040 --> 00:07:58.639
I got some vision for that property.
00:07:58.800 --> 00:07:59.439
We're going to see.
00:07:59.519 --> 00:08:03.040
We're going to see how what the Lord is able to do through through us while we're there.
00:08:03.279 --> 00:08:03.600
Love it.
00:08:03.759 --> 00:08:04.079
Love it.
00:08:04.240 --> 00:08:09.199
Now that going back to Southeast, you know, talking about the work with CACC and 186 and everything.
00:08:09.519 --> 00:08:10.240
I always love Southeast.
00:08:10.319 --> 00:08:10.879
Miss Metz.
00:08:11.519 --> 00:08:14.879
I don't know if she was there when you were there, but she I worked with her a lot over the years.
00:08:14.959 --> 00:08:15.439
She's just great.
00:08:15.759 --> 00:08:16.480
Yeah, amazing.
00:08:16.639 --> 00:08:18.319
She always has been close to our families.
00:08:18.639 --> 00:08:21.199
It's just a great school, great faculty there that I've worked with.
00:08:21.680 --> 00:08:25.759
The administration there is just they have so much passion for impacting kids there.
00:08:25.839 --> 00:08:26.399
It's just great.
00:08:26.560 --> 00:08:26.959
I love it.
00:08:27.199 --> 00:08:33.360
Yeah, even now, just to see the transformation of administration over the last, I would say, five years or so.
00:08:33.759 --> 00:08:34.720
The principal now, Mr.
00:08:34.879 --> 00:08:37.279
Trig, he and I, we have our own personal relationship.
00:08:37.360 --> 00:08:38.000
And then Mrs.
00:08:38.159 --> 00:08:39.840
Tiffany Williams, which is the athletic.
00:08:41.120 --> 00:08:44.879
She and I and her family go back years.
00:08:45.120 --> 00:08:49.519
She played a huge part in my music coming up when I was in high school.
00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:52.960
She was over the uh the gospel choir and then they had a show choir.
00:08:53.039 --> 00:08:56.000
And she started to pull and tug on me to play piano.
00:08:56.159 --> 00:09:04.080
Meanwhile, I'm just learning, but she always encouraged me, always kind of pushed more responsibility on me so that I would buckle down and be serious about it.
00:09:04.240 --> 00:09:14.720
And then just to kind of uh let you know a little bit about our relationship, just as I was getting ready to graduate high school and kind of become an adult, because I did have a love for basketball.
00:09:14.799 --> 00:09:18.799
Um I actually was the assistant coach under her husband at uh Jefferson Mill School.
00:09:18.879 --> 00:09:19.279
There you go.
00:09:19.360 --> 00:09:20.960
And we had a couple trips upstate.
00:09:21.039 --> 00:09:25.120
And and so, yeah, you know, Springfield, it's like a big, happy family.
00:09:25.279 --> 00:09:27.120
You just gotta you just gotta find where you fit.
00:09:27.279 --> 00:09:27.519
That's right.
00:09:27.679 --> 00:09:28.399
And then grow from there.
00:09:28.720 --> 00:09:28.879
It is.
00:09:29.120 --> 00:09:30.879
People say it's like the biggest small town out there.
00:09:31.120 --> 00:09:31.600
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:09:31.919 --> 00:09:32.399
For sure.
00:09:32.559 --> 00:09:32.960
For sure.
00:09:33.200 --> 00:09:34.000
Right, absolutely.
00:09:34.240 --> 00:09:36.559
So you planted your church, you planted your ministry there.
00:09:36.639 --> 00:09:42.240
Talk to us a little more about the the vision when you initially said, hey, this is what we're gonna do, feeling called to do that.
00:09:42.399 --> 00:09:45.519
What does that look like moving forward, those first few months getting in?
00:09:45.759 --> 00:09:47.200
Well, this kind of goes back.
00:09:47.279 --> 00:09:51.679
Um, right around the age 20, I started something called the spiritual weight room.
00:09:52.159 --> 00:09:54.559
And it started with a Bible study, a men's Bible study.
00:09:54.720 --> 00:10:03.039
That in that season I had gotten married, and I needed a reason to spend some time outside of the home, away from my wife with some of the guys in a positive place.
00:10:03.120 --> 00:10:11.279
And uh, we started just having Bible study every week at Emmanuel Temple at the time and and still are, and we would play ball afterwards.
00:10:11.440 --> 00:10:30.960
I mean, we were at one point we had someone as young as 13 or 14, all the way up to people as old as 60, 65 years old, showing up to Bible study, people with multiple testimonies, some had been incarcerated, some had been recently, you know, drug addicts or whatever that might look like, alcoholics, all of the above.
00:10:31.120 --> 00:10:39.360
And God, in this time, I was completely kind of blind to it, but I was realizing that God was starting to use me, you know, in his own ministry.
00:10:39.519 --> 00:10:42.159
And so the birthing of our ministry, right?
00:10:42.320 --> 00:10:44.799
Even now, so long later, right?
00:10:44.960 --> 00:10:47.759
I realized how much my generation.
00:10:47.919 --> 00:10:51.440
Now I'm at the tail end of millennials, okay?
00:10:51.600 --> 00:10:57.679
And so I kind of do generations now, are kind of like every I think they change them kind of they're kind of long.
00:10:58.000 --> 00:10:58.159
Right.
00:10:58.799 --> 00:10:58.879
Yeah.
00:10:59.039 --> 00:11:03.039
I realize there's some older, I don't know how old you are, but I'm not gonna I'm not gonna play around.
00:11:03.360 --> 00:11:08.879
Yeah, I'm on the I'm on the probably the way front end of millennial or the far back end of Gen X.
00:11:09.200 --> 00:11:10.320
So I'm 43.
00:11:10.480 --> 00:11:14.320
So I'm I'm like right at the cusp of Gen X, I think, and millennial.
00:11:14.399 --> 00:11:15.440
I can't remember, something like that.
00:11:15.679 --> 00:11:20.240
I think as much as stuff is changing now, these generations, they're gonna have to start changing them a little bit.
00:11:20.639 --> 00:11:23.600
But I realize that my generation is missing from the church.
00:11:23.679 --> 00:11:33.200
They're not coming into the church anymore, and and and so what that is, is they're giving birth to children that have never been introduced to Christ through by their parents or through the church.
00:11:33.360 --> 00:11:35.039
And people have multiple reasons.
00:11:35.200 --> 00:11:39.440
You have this thing out there, um, I don't know if you've ever heard of it or not, but it's called church hurt.
00:11:39.679 --> 00:11:41.679
Basically, where this is what it truly is.
00:11:41.840 --> 00:11:46.080
Someone was held accountable in the church, and they they called it judgment.
00:11:46.320 --> 00:11:49.200
The Bible calls us as disciples to hold one another accountable.
00:11:49.279 --> 00:11:51.600
And and so they weren't tough enough to take it.
00:11:51.919 --> 00:12:02.320
So they took it personal, and so they shied away from the church, and so they kind of harbored that unforgiveness in their heart, and now we have generations that are not being introduced or knowing about Christ.
00:12:02.480 --> 00:12:09.039
And so that's where this kind of came was was that as God was telling me that I was gonna start my ministry, I had two options.
00:12:09.200 --> 00:12:16.799
I could obey, answer the call, and God could use me now to to meet this generation and the generations to come, or I could have waited.
00:12:16.960 --> 00:12:18.879
The truth is, is that all I had to do was wait in line.
00:12:18.960 --> 00:12:20.799
I was gonna inherit the ministry of Emma Tunb.
00:12:21.039 --> 00:12:21.279
Sure.
00:12:21.440 --> 00:12:26.639
But my father, he hasn't been pastoring very long, and and he's doing a great and amazing job.
00:12:26.720 --> 00:12:33.759
And as I would sit behind him and play, you know, the music and the piano and the organ for him every week, the more and more God showed me that.
00:12:33.840 --> 00:12:36.960
He's like, hey, I want you to understand time, you're never gonna get back.
00:12:37.120 --> 00:12:38.240
You're never gonna get back.
00:12:38.399 --> 00:12:45.120
And so the older that I get, I'm sitting here and I'm watching people have their reasoning for not wanting to come to church or join a church.
00:12:45.279 --> 00:12:49.279
And so that was when God said, Hey, I need you to answer this call.
00:12:49.519 --> 00:12:54.399
Because we as Faith Nation, we're on a mandate to win back the millennials into the church.
00:12:54.480 --> 00:12:56.559
And then also, what's the generation after us?
00:12:56.639 --> 00:12:56.879
I don't know.
00:12:57.039 --> 00:12:58.000
Uh is it Gen Alpha?
00:12:58.159 --> 00:12:59.360
Is it Gen Alpha after that?
00:12:59.600 --> 00:13:00.080
I can't remember.
00:13:01.120 --> 00:13:02.720
It seems like the names change too sometimes.
00:13:03.200 --> 00:13:05.360
I'm glad to know that you didn't know the answer.
00:13:05.840 --> 00:13:07.120
That makes me look so much better.
00:13:09.679 --> 00:13:23.039
But yeah, we're trying to win back these generations of people and reintroduce Christ to them so that they understand that Christ, your relationship with Christ is not dictated by a building or a church or a pastor, that it actually starts with you personally, right?
00:13:23.200 --> 00:13:32.080
And you have to be willing to build that relationship so that God can give you the direction on where to serve and where what home to call your ministry or what pastor to call your pastor.
00:13:32.240 --> 00:13:39.600
So that way, if there ever is a situation, right, that rubs you the wrong way, you're so rooted and grounded in Christ that you're not shying away from the church.
00:13:39.679 --> 00:13:39.919
Sure.
00:13:40.080 --> 00:13:47.120
And and then now, you know, you're telling everybody why you didn't go to church and why you don't I mean barbershop talk, right?
00:13:47.279 --> 00:13:48.000
Oh yeah, yeah, I get it.
00:13:48.080 --> 00:13:53.440
So that's kind of what our mission is, obviously, our mission is to birth disciples.
00:13:53.679 --> 00:13:55.200
Sure, of course, yeah in faith.
00:13:55.279 --> 00:13:56.879
That's why we say faith nation church.
00:13:57.039 --> 00:13:59.679
I'm a person that I live by faith.
00:13:59.840 --> 00:14:00.000
Okay.
00:14:00.399 --> 00:14:02.879
Many people around me have said I've had I have the gift of faith.
00:14:03.039 --> 00:14:09.279
Now you would think as a pastor, anybody has that, but I've realized there are many gifts that God allows.
00:14:09.440 --> 00:14:13.759
And the gift of faith, and so that means living in the unknown, right?
00:14:14.000 --> 00:14:21.120
Living, putting yourself in positions where you are completely trusting in God that if it falls through, it's gonna make you look stupid, right?
00:14:21.360 --> 00:14:29.600
So that's kind of the gift that God has given me, and I'm trying to birth that into as many people as possible in a generation that loves entrepreneurship, right?
00:14:30.000 --> 00:14:30.799
They do too, yeah.
00:14:31.039 --> 00:14:31.600
You know what I mean?
00:14:31.759 --> 00:14:41.919
And it's in and even the generations to come, they're they're not looking at college the same, they're not looking at certain trade school things the same, they're trying to get things started and jumped off for themselves.
00:14:42.159 --> 00:14:44.399
And the reality is that's gonna take some faith.
00:14:44.559 --> 00:14:45.360
You know what I mean?
00:14:45.600 --> 00:14:52.480
Faith in something in someone that has much more power than you do in this world where everybody's a YouTuber.
00:14:52.559 --> 00:14:52.799
Right.
00:14:52.960 --> 00:14:56.480
Everybody's a content maker or whatever the case might be.
00:14:56.639 --> 00:15:00.000
You gotta have you gotta be rooted in something that's a lot deeper than just the surface.
00:15:00.159 --> 00:15:03.519
And that's what Faith Nation, that's what we're trying to get everyone to.
00:15:03.679 --> 00:15:09.120
And then on overall, the most important thing is living in and through Christ's love.
00:15:09.279 --> 00:15:19.039
I think we have an idea of what that looks like, but if circumstances give us the excuse, right, to I'm gonna snap on somebody or go off or or whatever.
00:15:19.279 --> 00:15:23.840
Now all of a sudden we've thrown everything that God has called us to and who he's called us to be.
00:15:23.919 --> 00:15:27.120
We've thrown that in the trash, and it's like, okay, I'm gonna give you a key peace in my mind.
00:15:27.279 --> 00:15:29.200
Christ talks about turning the other cheek.
00:15:29.279 --> 00:15:33.519
You know, he talks about loving your enemies and praying for them.
00:15:33.679 --> 00:15:40.080
I mean, this is an agenda that is unorthodox, and you're not gonna be able to fulfill this agenda alone.
00:15:40.159 --> 00:15:42.960
It's gonna take you to have a true relationship with God today.
00:15:43.120 --> 00:15:44.000
So absolutely.
00:15:44.399 --> 00:15:46.080
So you talked about it a little bit.
00:15:46.240 --> 00:15:47.679
So the name, Faith Nation.
00:15:47.759 --> 00:15:51.840
How long did it take you to get to the name, or did that come to you like that's gonna be the name of my church?
00:15:51.919 --> 00:15:52.480
That's that's it.
00:15:52.559 --> 00:15:52.960
That's done.
00:15:53.200 --> 00:15:56.559
There was a day I was listening to some worship music, and I was just listening.
00:15:56.720 --> 00:16:02.240
At the time, my wife and I, we were trying to decide if we were gonna do love redemption church.
00:16:02.480 --> 00:16:07.519
Well, my wife being co-pastor is actually a third generation pastor.
00:16:07.600 --> 00:16:08.000
Oh, is she?
00:16:08.240 --> 00:16:08.559
That's cool.
00:16:08.799 --> 00:16:15.360
Her grandfather is uh the pastor he birthed out, which is Victory Temple, which is on the corner of 15th and Jackson.
00:16:15.440 --> 00:16:15.600
Yeah.
00:16:15.759 --> 00:16:23.919
And then right there next to that, they had an older building that her father bought from them, and its name is Love Deliverance Church.
00:16:24.080 --> 00:16:29.759
And so we thought, love redemption, we were thinking, we were like, that's a little close, right?
00:16:30.000 --> 00:16:32.320
So I was like, Lord, it's just not clicking.
00:16:32.399 --> 00:16:33.360
And then I don't know.
00:16:33.519 --> 00:16:36.159
One day, just listening to worship music and it just popped up.
00:16:36.320 --> 00:16:42.480
And I walked in the room as my wife was helping the kids get dressed, and I said, Welcome to Faith Nation Church.
00:16:42.639 --> 00:16:43.440
That's literally what I said.
00:16:43.600 --> 00:16:45.519
Welcome to Faith Nation Church.
00:16:45.679 --> 00:16:48.799
And my wife looked at me and her eyes and face just lit up.
00:16:48.879 --> 00:16:50.080
And I was like, Yeah, this is it.
00:16:50.240 --> 00:16:50.480
That's it.
00:16:50.559 --> 00:16:51.200
This is it.
00:16:51.360 --> 00:16:51.759
This is it.
00:16:52.240 --> 00:16:52.639
I love it.
00:16:52.799 --> 00:17:00.080
No, I mean, between the two of you guys' families, fourth generation and third generation, you guys have had so much impact and such a staple in the community right there.
00:17:00.159 --> 00:17:01.279
That's that's huge, man.
00:17:01.440 --> 00:17:04.640
Yes, it's it's it's its own responsibility.
00:17:04.880 --> 00:17:05.519
Sure, sure.
00:17:05.680 --> 00:17:08.000
You know, somebody, you always know someone, uh-huh.
00:17:08.160 --> 00:17:10.240
Someone's always watching you, right?
00:17:10.480 --> 00:17:11.519
That's a good good thing.
00:17:11.680 --> 00:17:11.839
Right.
00:17:12.559 --> 00:17:15.359
Bad things for her, you know, if we weren't doing what we're supposed to do.
00:17:15.519 --> 00:17:15.599
Right.
00:17:15.680 --> 00:17:17.279
If we weren't doing what you're supposed to, yeah, uh-huh.
00:17:17.359 --> 00:17:17.759
Uh-huh.
00:17:18.160 --> 00:17:21.519
But also it carries this a level of weight of responsibility.
00:17:21.759 --> 00:17:23.839
We have so much to to live up to.
00:17:24.079 --> 00:17:32.880
I think um, I would say the largest African-American church in in Springfield, Illinois is Abundant Faith Christian Center, which happens to be her uncle's church.
00:17:33.119 --> 00:17:43.440
And uh so, like you said, ministry, it's embedded in our DNA, and now we're just trying to take the opportunity to carry on the legacy of just winning souls for Christ.
00:17:43.519 --> 00:17:44.160
That's the main thing.
00:17:44.480 --> 00:17:44.799
Love it.
00:17:44.960 --> 00:17:45.279
Love it.
00:17:45.440 --> 00:17:48.880
So, what are you most proud of in these early days of your church?
00:17:49.599 --> 00:17:52.799
I'm most proud of God giving me patience.
00:17:53.039 --> 00:17:58.079
He showed me the ministry 10, 5, 10, maybe 15 minutes years from now.
00:17:58.240 --> 00:18:05.599
And a lot of times when God shows you, I won't say the finish line, but the the journey down the line, and then he starts you way back at the beginning.
00:18:05.759 --> 00:18:09.920
When things don't move as fast as you want them to move, it's a test of your faith.
00:18:10.480 --> 00:18:14.480
It makes you ask, am I in this, did I, Lord, did I hear you correctly?
00:18:14.720 --> 00:18:21.359
And so what I'm most proud of is the patience and the appreciation for the congregation that we have that God has blessed us with.
00:18:21.440 --> 00:18:23.279
We're just pouring foundation right now.
00:18:23.440 --> 00:18:24.559
This is what God has told me.
00:18:24.640 --> 00:18:28.000
We're just pouring foundation for something that I believe is gonna take off.
00:18:28.160 --> 00:18:29.519
I'm the youngest pastor in Springfield.
00:18:29.680 --> 00:18:30.079
Are you really?
00:18:30.240 --> 00:18:33.759
And if you're younger than me in Springfield right now, comment.
00:18:34.160 --> 00:18:36.240
If you're a pastor and you're younger than I am, I'm 32.
00:18:36.640 --> 00:18:38.160
I was gonna say, you gotta tell them how old you are now.
00:18:38.480 --> 00:18:39.519
32 years old.
00:18:39.599 --> 00:18:42.799
I'll be 33 October 13th of 26.
00:18:42.960 --> 00:18:44.079
I'll be 33.
00:18:44.160 --> 00:18:44.720
And yeah.
00:18:44.880 --> 00:18:54.799
And so I believe that God is doing something amazing, but he's just trying to test my heart, my intentions, and he's trying to ready me for what the flock that he's sent gonna send in years to come.
00:18:54.880 --> 00:18:58.160
And I just have to be patient enough to just appreciate the slow walk.
00:18:58.400 --> 00:18:59.359
Appreciate the slow walk.
00:18:59.519 --> 00:19:05.039
And so most proud of the fact that I sermon prep like I'm preaching to 10,000 people.
00:19:05.359 --> 00:19:05.839
You know what I mean?
00:19:06.079 --> 00:19:06.319
I love it.
00:19:06.480 --> 00:19:07.039
A hundred thousand.
00:19:07.200 --> 00:19:07.519
I don't know.
00:19:07.599 --> 00:19:12.480
I sermon prep, like, and people come in and they're like, oh my God, this is an amazing sermon.
00:19:12.720 --> 00:19:16.240
And even the people that God has blessed us with already, they're growing.
00:19:16.480 --> 00:19:20.640
There's been a huge margin of where they were and where they are now.
00:19:20.799 --> 00:19:37.359
They came to Christ like loving Christ at the you know at the beginning, but now just the fruits of the spirit, which are love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, uh, self-control, and I think I'm missing one.
00:19:37.519 --> 00:19:38.319
Long suffering?
00:19:38.480 --> 00:19:38.880
I don't know.
00:19:39.039 --> 00:19:39.359
I don't know.
00:19:39.440 --> 00:19:40.240
I always kind of miss one.
00:19:40.480 --> 00:19:41.680
You roll through them pretty good, though.
00:19:41.839 --> 00:19:42.319
No, no, no.
00:19:42.400 --> 00:19:43.200
I did the extra one.
00:19:43.279 --> 00:19:44.079
That was all nine.
00:19:44.160 --> 00:19:45.680
But anyway, that was nine.
00:19:45.759 --> 00:19:47.440
I always add that long suffering one up.
00:19:47.519 --> 00:19:51.200
But anyway, but they're operating in this in their everyday life.
00:19:51.519 --> 00:19:52.640
This is what it's about.
00:19:53.119 --> 00:19:58.720
I get testimonies about how marriages are going through, and they're like, they're getting ready to get into it.
00:19:58.799 --> 00:19:59.680
If you've been are you married?
00:19:59.839 --> 00:20:00.000
Yeah.
00:20:00.160 --> 00:20:00.319
Yeah.
00:20:00.640 --> 00:20:01.359
You know how it is.
00:20:01.680 --> 00:20:07.359
Tough conversations every now and again get a little elevated, and they're like, we stopped and we prayed first.
00:20:07.599 --> 00:20:19.440
And God was able to come into our space and we were able to effectively have a conversation that was about to go left, but because we allow God to come in, or people that had friends that backstabbed them or whatever, right?
00:20:19.599 --> 00:20:24.720
They're calling them and reconciling these relationships and offering them forgiveness and inviting them out to church.
00:20:24.880 --> 00:20:27.119
Parents that didn't raise them, right?
00:20:27.200 --> 00:20:28.559
Or they were nowhere to be found.
00:20:28.640 --> 00:20:35.279
They're calling these parents and letting them know, hey, as an adult, I'm realizing that, you know, it's tough to be an adult.
00:20:35.440 --> 00:20:36.160
I forgive you.
00:20:36.400 --> 00:20:42.559
So they're going back, and God is allowing these people to go back in time and just demonstrate the love of Christ.
00:20:42.640 --> 00:20:44.000
So that's that's the most.
00:20:47.920 --> 00:20:48.240
I love it.
00:20:48.319 --> 00:20:49.119
No, I love it, man.
00:20:49.200 --> 00:20:51.680
Yeah, no, I married actually got married around the same age you did.
00:20:51.759 --> 00:20:52.799
You said you got married at 20, right?
00:20:53.039 --> 00:20:53.920
So I got married at 21.
00:20:54.000 --> 00:20:56.079
So yeah, I've been married for 22.
00:20:56.160 --> 00:20:57.279
Oh no, what is it now?
00:20:57.440 --> 00:20:58.640
20, whatever.
00:20:58.880 --> 00:20:59.359
It's okay.
00:20:59.759 --> 00:21:01.200
It's 04 to yeah, 22 years.
00:21:01.279 --> 00:21:01.680
Yeah, that's right.
00:21:02.319 --> 00:21:02.960
I was right the first time.
00:21:03.039 --> 00:21:05.279
I was like, I gotta do the math, but I yeah, I was right the first time.
00:21:05.359 --> 00:21:05.839
I got it.
00:21:06.000 --> 00:21:07.200
So that's awesome.
00:21:07.440 --> 00:21:09.920
So, what is the church's role in the community?
00:21:10.079 --> 00:21:14.880
You talked about bringing people to Christ and everything, but how can the church reach out into the community?
00:21:15.119 --> 00:21:17.519
Not just yours, but the whole every all churches here.
00:21:17.759 --> 00:21:19.680
I think we're trying to find our place.
00:21:19.839 --> 00:21:23.279
There's so many things that you can do, so many roles that you can fulfill.
00:21:23.440 --> 00:21:29.279
Obviously, there's a lot of times we've gone out into the community, we've prayed for people, we've fed the hungry, we've done different things like that.
00:21:29.440 --> 00:21:32.240
But we're trying to find what our place in the community is.
00:21:32.559 --> 00:21:38.079
One thing that I do know, this plays a huge part, is that we are the church for the next generation.
00:21:38.559 --> 00:21:41.759
So, as far as for the community, we are the strong tower.
00:21:41.839 --> 00:21:48.400
We're the safe place for this next generation to run into and feel safe without being judged.
00:21:48.640 --> 00:21:48.880
Okay.
00:21:49.200 --> 00:21:52.000
Now, obviously, there's work in the community that we want to do.
00:21:52.160 --> 00:21:56.960
There's some things that we want to birth out, you know, so that we can be a light and a help to our community.
00:21:57.200 --> 00:21:59.599
But as far as for our community, I believe that.
00:22:00.079 --> 00:22:05.279
We're the church for the millennials and the generations to follow, right?
00:22:05.599 --> 00:22:19.839
Because yeah, the we have taken, I don't want to say all of the tradition out of the church, but we've had to stop and figure out and we've gone to the drawing board about why did these people ever stop coming to church or why did they stop believing in Christ?
00:22:20.000 --> 00:22:24.240
And we have tried to make our church everything that they ran from.
00:22:24.400 --> 00:22:24.720
Right.
00:22:24.960 --> 00:22:26.720
Accept them the way they are.
00:22:26.880 --> 00:22:30.240
Now I want I I say this real clear in the mic, right?
00:22:30.480 --> 00:22:33.359
We definitely preach the Bible cover to cover.
00:22:33.519 --> 00:22:33.839
Sure.
00:22:34.079 --> 00:22:37.599
You know, when you you have to be careful using the word acceptance.
00:22:37.920 --> 00:22:39.279
God loves everyone.
00:22:39.440 --> 00:22:46.960
And I'm not gonna get into that on your podcast, but the reality is God has love and he loves every last one of us as his children.
00:22:47.119 --> 00:22:52.240
But he doesn't always like what we do, how we operate, how we carry ourselves, certain things, whatever.
00:22:52.400 --> 00:22:57.359
And so I say that because people will hear the word acceptance and think that I'm preaching a false gospel.
00:22:57.519 --> 00:22:58.400
Absolutely not.
00:22:58.559 --> 00:22:59.759
We're gonna love you.
00:22:59.920 --> 00:23:00.640
Watch this one.
00:23:00.799 --> 00:23:04.480
Don't cut me off for this one, but I always say this here at Faith Nation Church.
00:23:04.559 --> 00:23:06.319
We're gonna love the hell out of you.
00:23:07.359 --> 00:23:07.759
Literally.
00:23:08.240 --> 00:23:10.240
Now, that's I don't really get to talk like that.
00:23:10.319 --> 00:23:12.640
I say that when I'm preaching, that's my one opportunity.
00:23:12.960 --> 00:23:13.440
There you go.
00:23:13.599 --> 00:23:14.000
Absolutely.
00:23:14.160 --> 00:23:14.559
Take it.
00:23:14.640 --> 00:23:16.000
We'll emphasize that on here.
00:23:16.079 --> 00:23:16.640
Let's go.
00:23:16.799 --> 00:23:17.279
I love it.
00:23:17.519 --> 00:23:17.839
For sure.
00:23:18.240 --> 00:23:27.920
No, I think that there are so many ways for churches to be able to reach out into the community, but it is when you get the community to come into your four walls, you can really make a make a huge impact on folks.
00:23:28.400 --> 00:23:32.000
We have a lot of amazing churches and a lot of amazing pastors.
00:23:32.240 --> 00:23:37.359
I'm pretty familiar with at least 80 to 90 percent of the pastors here in Springfield, Illinois.
00:23:37.519 --> 00:23:41.759
And so just knowing everyone, you know, on a personal level and things like that.
00:23:41.920 --> 00:23:43.359
There's some amazing churches.
00:23:43.680 --> 00:23:48.559
Obviously, I would love for you all to come join or or even be a part of Faith Nation Church or visit.
00:23:48.720 --> 00:23:51.680
But the main thing is find you a place that you can call home.
00:23:51.839 --> 00:23:55.119
Find what's comfortable to you, find where you're gonna grow.
00:23:55.279 --> 00:24:02.880
I tell the people uh of Faith Nation, I say, there's some Sundays I'm gonna send you home feeling like you can fly home instead of driving.
00:24:03.359 --> 00:24:19.279
But there's some Sundays that you're gonna go home and you're gonna feel like that child that got corrected, you know, that child that had been doing something or or operating a certain way, and that father or that mother stopped him and said, Hey, we don't operate or we don't live or we don't act this particular way.
00:24:19.680 --> 00:24:37.680
The reason why that's important is because that's a full rounded gospel is to is for us to hold each other accountable to growth, not just accept and and everybody can live and and operate how they like to and want to, but it's being intentional to realize that God has set us apart and that the Bible says that we're aliens of this world.
00:24:37.839 --> 00:24:38.640
Heaven is our home.
00:24:38.799 --> 00:24:38.880
Right.
00:24:39.039 --> 00:24:39.599
You know, right.
00:24:39.759 --> 00:24:40.319
Now it's interesting.
00:24:40.400 --> 00:24:45.039
You talked a minute ago about you know the reasons why people leave the church when they're younger and all that.
00:24:45.279 --> 00:24:48.079
I grew up in a very traditional Methodist church.
00:24:48.319 --> 00:24:51.200
When when I was younger, yeah, I went away from that quite a while.
00:24:51.519 --> 00:24:51.920
Quite a while.
00:24:52.000 --> 00:24:55.440
And then right now we go to the West Side Christian over on the over on the west side.
00:24:55.680 --> 00:24:58.799
So it's completely different than that one.
00:24:58.880 --> 00:25:00.319
You know, that's an amazing ministry.
00:25:00.400 --> 00:25:00.559
Yeah.
00:25:00.640 --> 00:25:02.000
I'll just throw a nugget out there.
00:25:02.079 --> 00:25:04.000
I'm waiting on that pastor to give me a call.
00:25:04.160 --> 00:25:05.519
I'd love to come speak there sometime.
00:25:06.079 --> 00:25:06.400
Nice.
00:25:06.559 --> 00:25:09.519
Well, he was he was actually on the show just about uh four months ago.
00:25:09.680 --> 00:25:10.960
We just we had Eddie over here.
00:25:11.759 --> 00:25:12.960
Come on, shout out Eddie Lohan.
00:25:13.119 --> 00:25:13.519
Come on.
00:25:13.759 --> 00:25:14.720
Let's get him out there.
00:25:14.880 --> 00:25:15.359
Get him out.
00:25:15.440 --> 00:25:16.880
Guest guest preach for us one day.
00:25:16.960 --> 00:25:17.279
There you go.
00:25:17.440 --> 00:25:18.240
I absolutely love that.
00:25:18.400 --> 00:25:19.839
Yeah, it's it's a big crowd out there.
00:25:19.920 --> 00:25:21.839
So I mean it's a beautiful facility.
00:25:22.160 --> 00:25:23.359
Actually uh visit there often.
00:25:23.519 --> 00:25:23.839
Oh, yeah?
00:25:24.000 --> 00:25:34.480
Yeah, their services are early enough for sometimes if I'm like done sermon prepping early enough, I'll go and and just sit in the congregation and just kind of fill up in worship before, you know.
00:25:34.640 --> 00:25:35.920
We start at 12 noon.
00:25:36.000 --> 00:25:38.319
So by then, I think you West Side's already had two services.
00:25:38.640 --> 00:25:40.640
Already had two services by then because the last one's at eleven.
00:25:40.880 --> 00:25:44.720
Yeah, the last service is at eleven, they have the eight thirty or eight and nine thirty as well.
00:25:44.960 --> 00:25:47.279
So I've been to that nine thirty one a couple times.
00:25:47.519 --> 00:25:49.839
Eight, I'm not gonna say it's too early, but you know.
00:25:50.079 --> 00:25:50.240
Yeah.
00:25:50.319 --> 00:25:51.680
No, I tell you my call meeting.
00:25:51.839 --> 00:25:52.400
Oh, sure, sure.
00:25:52.480 --> 00:25:56.160
No, I t I typically go to the eleven because my wife and I've got two teenage daughters.
00:25:56.240 --> 00:26:02.160
I've got a 16-year-old and a 13-year-old, and they serve in the kids' ministry every Sunday at the 9 30 service.
00:26:02.240 --> 00:26:04.720
So they do that, and then we all hit the service at the at eleven.
00:26:05.119 --> 00:26:05.519
That's awesome.
00:26:05.759 --> 00:26:07.200
Yeah, they love working with the kids in there.
00:26:07.279 --> 00:26:10.400
My younger daughter is that's as especially her passion.
00:26:10.559 --> 00:26:14.000
She just she loves working with little kids, babies and toddlers and the whole thing.
00:26:14.079 --> 00:26:15.920
So she'll probably definitely have a gift.
00:26:16.240 --> 00:26:19.920
Yeah, she'll probably do something with that down the road as a as a career, I would imagine.
00:26:20.000 --> 00:26:21.039
She just loves it so much.
00:26:21.279 --> 00:26:21.759
That's awesome.
00:26:22.000 --> 00:26:26.640
So and it it's really great to see them pushing for those opportunities.
00:26:26.799 --> 00:26:36.400
It's not something that me as the dad or my wife as the mom saying, Hey, this is what they came forward and said, Hey, we want to serve, we want to do this, which I which I think is great.
00:26:36.640 --> 00:26:39.920
I think that's important, even when we're talking about ministry.
00:26:40.000 --> 00:26:45.519
People are ask me all the time, did your parents or your whoever tell you you were gonna pastor?
00:26:45.839 --> 00:26:47.680
No, but they always left the door open.
00:26:48.480 --> 00:26:56.079
At 32, I have a lot more pastoral experience than the average 32-year-old because they always offered me a seat at the table.
00:26:56.559 --> 00:27:04.400
And so I would sit and I would listen to how they figured things out, how they disciple, how they, you know, came to conclusions about certain things.
00:27:04.559 --> 00:27:11.279
And and I would always ask, you know, in those settings, they, you know, those are one of those, hey, you know, just sit and listen, right?
00:27:11.440 --> 00:27:14.960
But I would always ask, you know, why why do I have to be in here listening?
00:27:15.039 --> 00:27:16.319
And they would always leave the door open.
00:27:16.400 --> 00:27:17.519
They'd say, you never know.
00:27:17.759 --> 00:27:21.599
God may call you to pastor or or be over a church one day.
00:27:21.839 --> 00:27:23.359
They never said you're gonna pastor.
00:27:23.440 --> 00:27:23.599
Right.
00:27:23.680 --> 00:27:25.519
They never said you're gonna inherit this ministry.
00:27:25.680 --> 00:27:26.480
They never said that.
00:27:26.559 --> 00:27:30.799
And so it was planting a seed and it just kind of allowed that door to stay open.
00:27:30.960 --> 00:27:42.880
I this is definitely important for anybody that's watching for business owners or whatever it is out there, you may want your child to take on your business and just give them a seat at the table and leave the door open.
00:27:43.039 --> 00:27:47.279
One thing about the millennials and the generations is we don't like to be told.
00:27:47.519 --> 00:27:47.839
Right.
00:27:48.000 --> 00:27:48.400
Right?
00:27:48.640 --> 00:27:49.839
Unfortunately, right?
00:27:49.920 --> 00:27:56.000
We don't like to be told how things are gonna leave the door open.
00:27:56.160 --> 00:28:01.119
It plants a seed, and then before you know it, you realize ministry is all I know.
00:28:01.279 --> 00:28:02.079
This is who I am.
00:28:02.160 --> 00:28:03.279
It's in my DNA.
00:28:03.440 --> 00:28:04.559
Why wouldn't I want to go?
00:28:04.640 --> 00:28:08.480
And then it comes to that point in life where you're like, okay, I'm accepting this.
00:28:08.559 --> 00:28:09.680
I'm gonna walk in this.
00:28:09.759 --> 00:28:13.839
And so I'm very strategic when it comes to my children on ministry.
00:28:14.000 --> 00:28:21.839
I allow them to express themselves, I allow them to say what they feel, I allow them to hear certain conversations, even at a young age, right?
00:28:22.000 --> 00:28:24.559
But I never tell them that you're gonna do this.
00:28:24.720 --> 00:28:31.839
Their main goal is that regardless, if you never start a church, pastor church, whatever the case might be, you're still gonna be a child of God.
00:28:31.920 --> 00:28:35.680
And your responsibility that none of us as children of God get to neglect.
00:28:35.920 --> 00:28:41.920
Matthew 28, 19, going to all the world, preaching the gospel, baptizing the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
00:28:42.079 --> 00:28:44.000
Obviously, that's a spiritual baptism.
00:28:44.079 --> 00:28:46.960
I make the joke, don't just run around slinging water at people.
00:28:47.359 --> 00:28:47.759
Sure, sure.
00:28:47.920 --> 00:28:49.279
But uh, that's our responsibility.
00:28:49.440 --> 00:28:50.240
And so anyway.
00:28:50.559 --> 00:28:50.880
Awesome.
00:28:51.039 --> 00:28:53.039
So what's on tap for Faith Nation?
00:28:53.119 --> 00:28:54.720
What's on the what's on the horizon here?
00:28:54.960 --> 00:28:56.960
We're kind of in a season of patience.
00:28:57.119 --> 00:29:00.000
I say that because God has us sitting still.
00:29:00.240 --> 00:29:03.440
We are uh in a month called Jesus going viral in September.
00:29:03.519 --> 00:29:03.920
Uh-huh.
00:29:04.079 --> 00:29:06.079
And so we've been on a hunt.
00:29:06.240 --> 00:29:09.279
We we've on a on a hunt for souls, lost souls.
00:29:09.440 --> 00:29:11.359
They have a homework that I gave them.
00:29:11.519 --> 00:29:17.759
Is that uh once a week, they're to try to invite someone that's maybe not as strong in their walk to lunch or dinner.
00:29:17.839 --> 00:29:18.079
Uh-huh.
00:29:18.240 --> 00:29:22.720
There's to try to post on social media at least four days a week something about Jesus.
00:29:23.039 --> 00:29:28.000
They're to try to invite someone to church online or in person, each and every week.
00:29:28.160 --> 00:29:33.279
And out of 30 days in September, they're trying, they're supposed to try to invite what's equivalent to one soul per day.
00:29:33.359 --> 00:29:37.359
So try to invite 30 people to church in the month of September.
00:29:37.599 --> 00:29:41.279
And so that's kind of where we are because we're organically growing.
00:29:41.359 --> 00:29:43.599
We're growing the way God kind of calls us to.
00:29:43.759 --> 00:29:48.000
As far as the ministry overall, we're just trusting God in this season.
00:29:48.160 --> 00:29:51.519
I say that because I told you about how God is testing my patient.
00:29:51.599 --> 00:29:52.240
There's so much.
00:29:52.319 --> 00:29:55.759
I'm a visionary by heart, like by by nature.
00:29:56.000 --> 00:29:56.240
Okay.
00:29:56.640 --> 00:30:02.079
I can see things that I want done and I can go and start trying to work on them and make them happen.
00:30:02.240 --> 00:30:05.440
They have this new age, it's almost like a religion now.
00:30:05.519 --> 00:30:06.720
It's called manifesting.
00:30:07.519 --> 00:30:08.720
I'll go in and say it.
00:30:08.880 --> 00:30:09.920
I was a manifester.
00:30:10.240 --> 00:30:13.119
If I wanted it, I was gonna get it and I was gonna make it happen.
00:30:13.279 --> 00:30:19.519
And then I was gonna stamp God on it and say, God is so perfect that He allowed me to do this and that and the third.
00:30:19.680 --> 00:30:23.759
Well, as God has kind of shifted my perspective, right, as a pastor.
00:30:23.920 --> 00:30:29.680
We have to know just because we have the power to make it done doesn't make it happen, doesn't mean that it's the Lord's will for our our lives.
00:30:29.839 --> 00:30:34.319
And so we have to ask ourselves, do we want to live in God's perfect will or his permissive will?
00:30:34.480 --> 00:30:40.960
Where he says, I'll allow you to start the business, I'll allow you to have the multiple real estate, whatever.
00:30:41.200 --> 00:30:46.400
And then we're praying to God to provide for us and clean up after us, is what I say.
00:30:46.640 --> 00:30:48.799
We ask God, can you clean up after us?
00:30:48.960 --> 00:30:51.119
Because we went and did something we didn't pray about first.
00:30:51.279 --> 00:30:54.480
But the Bible says in all that ways, acknowledge him and he'll direct your path.
00:30:54.720 --> 00:31:07.759
So I'm working continuously, coaching myself to acknowledge God in every season that I'm going into so that way I'm not making a bunch of decisions for the ministry and then stamping God on them and then asking them to provide and clean up after us.
00:31:07.920 --> 00:31:14.079
So right now in this uh season, we're just growing, inviting people to church, letting people know that we're known.
00:31:14.319 --> 00:31:17.839
We spend every fourth month's Bible study on Tuesday nights.
00:31:17.920 --> 00:31:21.039
We go somewhere in the community and we have Bible study.
00:31:21.200 --> 00:31:24.799
We let ourselves be seen having Bible study in public.
00:31:24.960 --> 00:31:26.319
That alone is planting a seed.
00:31:26.480 --> 00:31:26.559
Yeah.
00:31:27.039 --> 00:31:27.359
Absolutely.
00:31:27.599 --> 00:31:32.079
Because we get people that come up and they ask us questions like, you know, who are you guys?
00:31:32.160 --> 00:31:33.039
And and all this.
00:31:33.200 --> 00:31:41.119
And the though they may not ever visit or whatever, it's planting a seed in them that, hey, Christ is trying to pull in you to make some things happen for your life, you know?
00:31:41.359 --> 00:31:41.759
Absolutely.
00:31:41.920 --> 00:31:47.599
So as far as Faith Nation Church, we were just able to to I don't even know the name of it.
00:31:47.759 --> 00:31:50.880
We have someone that handles our our 501c3 side.
00:31:51.119 --> 00:31:54.480
We were able to kind of acquire some some uh solar panels on our building.
00:31:54.559 --> 00:31:59.920
So we're trying to pull back some of our bills and things like that because uh church is a business.
00:32:00.720 --> 00:32:03.599
I say that because I guess I'm a business owner.
00:32:03.759 --> 00:32:06.960
Yeah, you got buildings, you got stuff, you got people, you got the whole thing.
00:32:07.039 --> 00:32:07.200
Yeah.
00:32:07.519 --> 00:32:11.039
My goodness, when those uh I'll just be I'm I'm transparent, you know.
00:32:11.200 --> 00:32:13.680
CWLP sends me that disconnection notice.
00:32:13.759 --> 00:32:19.359
Uh it's like, hey, we gotta uh pause this bill here, move this over here, move this around here, all right?
00:32:19.680 --> 00:32:24.000
Because we're a church that's strictly off of tithes and offerings, donations.
00:32:24.160 --> 00:32:29.359
And so we have a younger ministry, people that are still getting established, getting jobs, things like that.
00:32:29.519 --> 00:32:41.680
So my wife and I are constantly trying to figure out ways to where we can be patient enough for God to do what he wants in their lives, but we can be strategic enough in our lives to kind of move things around and everything we need, God, He always provides.
00:32:41.839 --> 00:32:42.640
You know what I mean?
00:32:42.799 --> 00:32:45.279
But it's a matter of sacrifice, you know.
00:32:45.440 --> 00:32:47.839
My wife and I, we are uh we love to travel.
00:32:47.920 --> 00:32:50.720
We love to take a good couple cruises a year.
00:32:50.880 --> 00:32:51.359
Sure, sure.
00:32:51.519 --> 00:32:54.799
We get to disconnect, uh, no cell phone service, nobody calling.
00:32:55.200 --> 00:32:55.599
You know what I mean?
00:32:56.160 --> 00:32:57.359
Completely disconnected from everybody.
00:32:57.680 --> 00:32:58.799
I need prayer, okay?
00:32:58.960 --> 00:32:59.839
You know, none of that.
00:33:00.240 --> 00:33:01.039
Phone is off.
00:33:01.119 --> 00:33:01.279
Right.
00:33:01.440 --> 00:33:01.680
Okay.
00:33:01.920 --> 00:33:06.480
This year, we didn't get to uh do our anniversary cruise like we usually did.
00:33:06.640 --> 00:33:11.599
That was a sacrifice we were willing to make uh just for the ministry because we're on the up and rising.
00:33:11.759 --> 00:33:18.240
And somebody may say, this may touch someone at home that says, hey, I want a place to be able to be to give donations or whatever.
00:33:18.400 --> 00:33:21.200
Faith Nation Church, I promise you, it's good ground.
00:33:21.279 --> 00:33:22.880
It's going to where it needs to go.
00:33:23.039 --> 00:33:26.960
But we need all the help that we can can get so that we can continue to do the work of the Lord.
00:33:27.039 --> 00:33:27.759
So love it.
00:33:27.920 --> 00:33:28.480
Love it, man.
00:33:28.559 --> 00:33:29.119
That's awesome.
00:33:29.279 --> 00:33:30.880
So, what else you got on your plate, man?
00:33:30.960 --> 00:33:32.000
What else you got going on?
00:33:32.240 --> 00:33:41.359
So, with that spiritual weight room Bible study, over the years, those individuals that would attend that Bible study, they started to have children and ask for a place for their children to be fed.
00:33:41.440 --> 00:33:41.680
Yeah.
00:33:41.839 --> 00:33:48.960
And obviously, yes, we have the church now, but this year has been was our third annual spiritual weight room faith camp.
00:33:49.119 --> 00:33:49.440
Okay.
00:33:49.680 --> 00:33:52.400
And so if you grew up, did you grow up here?
00:33:52.559 --> 00:33:53.440
I grew up in Decatur.
00:33:53.599 --> 00:33:54.240
Okay, close enough.
00:33:54.400 --> 00:33:55.119
Close enough, yeah.
00:33:55.279 --> 00:33:59.440
So I grew up with, you know, FCA had a multi-sports camp when we were younger.
00:33:59.680 --> 00:34:01.440
And and in some cities they still have it.
00:34:01.599 --> 00:34:05.920
I actually, you know, respectfully, I tried to apply to FCA so I could get that going.
00:34:06.079 --> 00:34:07.200
I never got that opportunity.
00:34:07.359 --> 00:34:07.599
Sure.
00:34:07.759 --> 00:34:10.320
And so God was like, I would read the writing on the wall.
00:34:10.400 --> 00:34:12.639
I'm trying to get you to birth something out.
00:34:12.800 --> 00:34:16.159
So uh three years ago, we started Spiritual Weight Room Faith Camp.
00:34:16.239 --> 00:34:21.119
It's a multi-sports camp for children from ages six through 14.
00:34:21.679 --> 00:34:25.039
And we use our high schoolers that come to Bible study as the volunteers.
00:34:25.599 --> 00:34:26.719
Yeah, like mentors and volunteers.
00:34:26.800 --> 00:34:27.760
Yeah, exactly.
00:34:27.840 --> 00:34:28.000
Yeah.
00:34:28.159 --> 00:34:31.519
And so we did a multi-sports camp, and each year we are growing.
00:34:31.679 --> 00:34:36.559
This year we were able to serve a little over 150 kids at our camp this year.
00:34:36.639 --> 00:34:39.920
And and gosh just kind of just That's big, man.
00:34:40.239 --> 00:34:40.559
That's big.
00:34:40.719 --> 00:34:42.079
150 kids there, that's big.
00:34:42.320 --> 00:34:42.960
150.
00:34:43.039 --> 00:34:45.119
And this year was the first year we were able to offer it for free.
00:34:45.440 --> 00:34:50.320
We were able to get some sponsorship and we were able to offer it to everybody that signed up for free.
00:34:50.480 --> 00:34:51.840
So that's a big deal, right?
00:34:52.079 --> 00:34:55.039
Uh if the congregation, I would say give God a hand clap appraisal.
00:34:55.599 --> 00:34:56.559
There you go, there you go.
00:34:56.719 --> 00:34:59.440
And so we're three years into that faith camp.
00:34:59.519 --> 00:35:04.239
I have a lot of vision, like I said, for spiritual weight room and trying to get into the schools.
00:35:04.400 --> 00:35:07.119
And there may be a principal, um, even the superintendent.
00:35:07.199 --> 00:35:09.039
He and I, the new superintendent, uh, Mr.
00:35:09.119 --> 00:35:17.519
Jordan, he and I have talked about us possibly getting into schools because they have so many other clubs that kind of point people in different directions if you kind of pick up what I'm putting down.
00:35:17.679 --> 00:35:20.239
Um, but there's not much Christ, sure.
00:35:20.320 --> 00:35:20.480
Right.
00:35:20.719 --> 00:35:29.119
And so we're trying to get into schools to be able to offer Bible study once a week to to high schoolers where they get to choose to come to lunch with us.
00:35:29.360 --> 00:35:43.440
And we put together a Bible study lesson, and because we technically can't teach children, right, separation of church and state, we designate ambassadors for each high school that lead the Bible studies, and we're just present to answer questions.
00:35:43.599 --> 00:35:45.360
So that's what we're trying to work on right now.
00:35:45.440 --> 00:35:48.480
We're working on a blueprint for that to try to get into District 186.
00:35:48.719 --> 00:35:50.639
Um, hopefully this will ring some bells.
00:35:50.719 --> 00:35:52.079
Um, any high school, right?
00:35:52.239 --> 00:35:54.800
Even in the high schools that are on the outskirt, right?
00:35:54.960 --> 00:35:58.239
We want to be able to get into any high high school that's gonna allow us.
00:35:58.320 --> 00:36:00.239
So hopefully we can make that happen.
00:36:00.400 --> 00:36:02.000
Yeah, well, I might be able to help you out with some of that.
00:36:02.079 --> 00:36:04.719
I've got to know all the folks at all the schools, so for sure.
00:36:05.440 --> 00:36:06.800
Yeah, we might have to have a discussion on that.
00:36:06.960 --> 00:36:07.199
Yeah.
00:36:07.440 --> 00:36:07.920
We can do that.
00:36:08.159 --> 00:36:08.480
Very cool.
00:36:08.639 --> 00:36:09.360
No, that's big, man.
00:36:09.519 --> 00:36:10.639
150 kids out there.
00:36:10.800 --> 00:36:12.079
How many days camp is it?
00:36:12.159 --> 00:36:12.400
Do you say?
00:36:12.480 --> 00:36:13.119
Is it a one-day camp?
00:36:13.199 --> 00:36:13.840
It was a five-day camp.
00:36:14.000 --> 00:36:14.559
Five day camp.
00:36:14.639 --> 00:36:14.800
Okay.
00:36:14.960 --> 00:36:15.280
Gotcha.
00:36:15.440 --> 00:36:17.920
And you're planning on doing that again next summer?
00:36:18.320 --> 00:36:18.480
Yes.
00:36:18.639 --> 00:36:21.760
Yes, we are for sure doing it again next summer.
00:36:21.840 --> 00:36:27.280
We'll start kind of planning closer to December, January, and then hopefully we'll have everything squared away.
00:36:27.440 --> 00:36:27.679
Okay.
00:36:27.920 --> 00:36:31.360
It's tough in our city to kind of get spaces, right?
00:36:31.519 --> 00:36:35.119
Our vision is to be able to host over 250 kids.
00:36:35.199 --> 00:36:41.440
And if I'm being honest, to plant a seed in our community, the only place that we're going to be able to get that to happen is uh probably the dome.
00:36:41.519 --> 00:36:41.840
Mm-hmm.
00:36:42.000 --> 00:36:55.039
So whoever's listening and watching, we would like to come into the dome and offer kids the opportunity to come in and compete in their sport and then learn about Jesus Christ, where we can have worship right there in the middle of the dome.
00:36:55.119 --> 00:36:56.000
So that's our vision.
00:36:56.159 --> 00:36:56.639
That is our vision.
00:36:56.960 --> 00:36:57.840
Phenomenal place for you.
00:36:58.079 --> 00:36:58.719
Yes, yes.
00:36:58.960 --> 00:36:59.760
That'd be awesome.
00:37:00.000 --> 00:37:00.239
Man.
00:37:00.400 --> 00:37:02.079
Well, so much great stuff today, man.
00:37:02.159 --> 00:37:04.320
I always like to close with these last couple of things.
00:37:04.480 --> 00:37:06.639
Let's give the audience a piece of advice.
00:37:06.800 --> 00:37:12.000
One on the personal side, one on the professional side to help them elevate their life or business.
00:37:12.239 --> 00:37:12.480
Okay.
00:37:12.559 --> 00:37:16.800
Uh, one piece of advice on the personal side is what do you think I'm gonna say?
00:37:17.039 --> 00:37:19.119
I'm guessing it's gonna be something faith-related.
00:37:19.440 --> 00:37:20.079
Of course.
00:37:20.320 --> 00:37:23.599
But I'm not sure exactly what you're gonna say, but it's gonna be faith related.
00:37:23.760 --> 00:37:24.400
Okay, yeah.
00:37:24.559 --> 00:37:27.440
On the personal side, obviously I'm an advocate for Christ.
00:37:27.599 --> 00:37:29.199
There's only one way to Christ, you know.
00:37:29.280 --> 00:37:30.880
That's what I teach and preach.
00:37:31.039 --> 00:37:33.440
There's only one way to God, and that's through Jesus Christ.
00:37:33.599 --> 00:37:38.639
And so I want to encourage whoever is listening to stop and take a moment.
00:37:38.800 --> 00:37:49.119
I always call it, we call it a moment of stillness, a moment of stillness throughout each and every day, and just reflect on Christ, your walk with Christ, what he's done for you, where you are.
00:37:49.360 --> 00:37:51.840
Kind of like from the optimistic point of view.
00:37:52.000 --> 00:37:58.559
Because the reason why I say that is because in this world that is microwave world, everything is just going, going, going.
00:37:58.960 --> 00:38:02.800
We never take a moment out of our schedule to just be still.
00:38:03.039 --> 00:38:03.519
Be still.
00:38:03.599 --> 00:38:12.239
I'm the type where I like worship pads and I turn worship pads on, and I can have to be a, I can have a million things that I need to get done, a million places to be.
00:38:12.480 --> 00:38:18.239
But I realize that when I take this time in moment of stillness, that's really prayer, right?
00:38:18.400 --> 00:38:20.000
And meditation on God.
00:38:20.159 --> 00:38:29.760
When I take that particular time, it allows me the strength to uh prioritize how God wants me to maneuver through life to where I'm gonna get the most out of it.
00:38:30.239 --> 00:38:35.119
And so obviously, my personal one is take time in prayer.
00:38:35.360 --> 00:38:35.920
That's it.
00:38:36.159 --> 00:38:37.199
Take time to pray.
00:38:37.280 --> 00:38:40.079
And I'm not talking about God, will you do this for me?
00:38:40.159 --> 00:38:47.840
Not a Santa Claus wish list, but but to go through maybe the book of Psalms and listen to how David speaks of God.
00:38:48.000 --> 00:38:55.760
When you take your time in prayer, take time to just tell God how good he is and how how much you need him and how worthless you would be without him.
00:38:56.079 --> 00:38:58.000
And so that is my personal one.
00:38:58.159 --> 00:39:00.639
Here's a good professional one that has helped us in our last season.
00:39:00.800 --> 00:39:07.599
Take care of the paperwork of behind your business, behind your, you know, whatever it is that you do aspire to do.
00:39:07.840 --> 00:39:08.719
Be ready.
00:39:09.039 --> 00:39:10.960
God can't bless someone that's not ready.
00:39:11.119 --> 00:39:11.440
Okay.
00:39:11.599 --> 00:39:17.360
We had to have our, in order for us to receive the grant that we got for the solar solar panels, we had to be ready.
00:39:17.519 --> 00:39:21.039
Even though we didn't have any grants lined up, we had our paperwork lined up.
00:39:21.199 --> 00:39:25.679
We were working on things, working on establishing ourselves as an official, yes, as a church.
00:39:25.760 --> 00:39:26.719
You want to make sure of that.
00:39:26.800 --> 00:39:28.880
But uh, even spiritual weight room, right?
00:39:28.960 --> 00:39:37.519
If I go back before the church was actually there, the paperwork has always been done to where if people want to be a donor, people want to bless us, we're ready.
00:39:37.679 --> 00:39:41.360
So get your ducks in order, be professional, okay?
00:39:41.519 --> 00:39:43.119
I'm talking to my Springfield people.
00:39:43.199 --> 00:39:43.360
Yeah.
00:39:43.519 --> 00:39:47.599
We got a lot of businesses out there, but no paperwork behind these businesses, okay?
00:39:47.760 --> 00:39:52.719
When I write a check, I want to write a check to your business, not to you personally, if that makes sense, right?
00:39:52.880 --> 00:39:55.199
So I want to be able to write that off on my taxes.
00:39:55.360 --> 00:39:55.440
Right.
00:39:55.679 --> 00:39:56.000
Right.
00:39:56.159 --> 00:40:06.079
So let's make sure professionally uh here in our city that if we're running a business, whether you're selling cookies, going from door to door to sell candy, let's get the paperwork done, right?
00:40:06.159 --> 00:40:16.400
So that we can be in a position for God to really do something through us that the worst is scripture, eyes haven't seen, ears haven't heard, nor has it entered the heart of man what God has in store for you.
00:40:16.480 --> 00:40:19.519
So get yourself professionally ready for God to bless you.
00:40:19.679 --> 00:40:20.159
There you go.
00:40:20.320 --> 00:40:26.800
And is there anything we can do community-wide to help all of us here elevate Springfield and the surrounding communities?
00:40:27.119 --> 00:40:32.400
One thing that I would love to see here in our city, you said it's a big, small, what did you say?
00:40:32.559 --> 00:40:34.239
It's the it's the biggest small town.
00:40:34.320 --> 00:40:35.199
Yeah, the UFB.
00:40:35.679 --> 00:40:36.079
Exactly.
00:40:36.239 --> 00:40:37.840
It's the biggest small town.
00:40:38.000 --> 00:40:39.920
And people, they have these different names.
00:40:40.079 --> 00:40:43.599
They call it like a crab bucket, whatever they I don't know the name for it.
00:40:43.760 --> 00:40:49.039
But what that basically is about is is that I think in our city we struggle to be unified.
00:40:49.599 --> 00:40:51.280
We struggle to support one another.
00:40:51.599 --> 00:40:52.320
Genuinely.
00:40:52.480 --> 00:40:59.360
Like we'll show the I have people they'll show up to your event or show up to your church, unfortunately, and they'll go and post about you or talk about you behind your back.
00:40:59.519 --> 00:41:09.199
But I think it's a principality that's over our city that we have to feel like we have to take the legs out from under someone else in order to feel great about ourselves.
00:41:09.360 --> 00:41:16.400
So let's genuinely adopt the heart to love on people, be unified, support people with a genuine heart.
00:41:16.639 --> 00:41:20.960
Because I'll say this, and you can emphasize this God doesn't bless any mess.
00:41:21.119 --> 00:41:21.440
Period.
00:41:22.159 --> 00:41:22.639
Come on.
00:41:22.800 --> 00:41:23.519
Strong, brother.
00:41:23.760 --> 00:41:24.079
Strong.
00:41:24.239 --> 00:41:24.960
Love it, love it.
00:41:25.119 --> 00:41:32.480
Well, Pastor Glenn, uh remind everybody hey, if they want to go check you out over at Faith Nation, see what you got going on over there, win of the services, all the good stuff.

And I'm assuming information will be coming out on the camp at some point.
00:42:20.880 --> 00:42:24.000
Maybe there's some businesses out there that want to help support that.
00:42:24.159 --> 00:42:25.599
Stuff come out on that, right?
00:42:25.840 --> 00:42:26.159

00:42:46.079 --> 00:42:46.559
It was fun.

Yeah, absolutely.

00:42:59.440 --> 00:42:59.920
Let's do it.
00:43:00.079 --> 00:43:00.880
All over it, man.
00:43:00.960 --> 00:43:01.360
Let's go.
