BU BÖLÜM HAKKINDA
Jess Webber didn't build a personal brand strategy to stand out in a room of four hundred strangers. She used something she already does for free, something she has never once called a skill, and let the room tell her if it mattered.
You know the pressure. You walk into a room full of ambitious people and the voice in your head starts doing math, who already has a following, who has the polished offer, who walked in with a plan. Somewhere in that math you decide you're behind, and you start hunting for a bigger, shinier version of yourself to bring to the next room.
Jess walked into the Pink Skirt Project this year with almost the opposite experience. Instead of hunting for something new to prove she belonged, she tested something she already had. No funnel, no custom QR code, no elaborate offer built for the occasion. Just a habit she's carried her whole life, given away in the plainest form she could manage.
This episode is about what happened when she stopped assuming her most natural skill was too ordinary to matter, and what it revealed about the difference between chasing a bigger personality and testing the one you already have.
In This Episode
- Why Jess felt affirmed instead of behind walking into a room full of purpose-driven speakers, and what changed for her between last year's event and this one
- The two-part experiment she ran with her own note-taking template, one drop before the event, one after
- The exact, unglamorous tech stack behind it, a Google Doc, a subdomain, and a single automated email
- The moment strangers she'd never met started walking up to her before the event had even officially started
- Why last year she found herself retreating from the room, and why this year she never had to
- The You Do You, Boo Boo audit, the two questions that reveal what you already have to offer, without inventing anything new
- What Cal Newport's So Good They Can't Ignore You gets right about how a skill actually proves its value
- The one move Jess wants you to make this week with something you already do without thinking
The Big Idea
The thing that makes you stand out isn't hidden somewhere waiting to be found. It's already running in the background, showing up so naturally you've probably filed it under not a big deal. This episode makes the case for testing that thing in front of real people instead of continuing to assume it isn't enough.
Memorable Lines from This Episode
"The thing that makes you wildly unique isn't buried somewhere waiting to be uncovered. You have things that make you special and you've had them the whole time."
"I let the notes do the introduction. I gave away something and I made conversation easier for myself before I was ever standing in Kelowna."
"I walked into Pink Skirt as a speaker and a coach, and I walked out the notes lady. And it turns out that might have been the best business card I never meant to make."
"Skills prove themselves through response, not through feelings."

Your One Thing This Week
Name something you're already doing without being asked, something so obvious it barely feels like a skill. Strip it down to its plainest form, no branding, no funnel, no automation. Put it in front of one real room or one real group of people and see what comes back. You don't need a strategy for this. You need a test.
