Something is not right backstage at Bramall Lane. For the first time, manager Chris Wilder often appears at a loss to explain his team's inconsistency and unpredictability, instead putting it down to "individual errors". In short they have no identity which is an unlikely description for any Wilder side. Could the crazy decision to ditch assistant manager Alan Knill in the summer, breaking-up of a long-standing and successful partnership, be part of the problem? The Blades' false start to their Championship campaign has sparked growing anger from supporters, already unimpressed by the club's controversial American owners. Wilder is in danger of unfairly becoming a scapegoat for his controversial employers' continued failing
Summary:
- Alan Knill's unexplained exit might be a symptom of United's instability and inconsistent form.
- Owners' controversial behaviour and legal disputes have undermined manager Chris Wilder's plans and damaged the club's summer rebuild.
- Replacing Knill with less experienced staff like Micky Collins has left Wilder without the kind of support he's used to.
- Wilder is in danger of becoming a scapegoat while the silent owners and chief executive escape scrutiny.
