Leaning on Dr. Amy Cuddy's power pose theory, this episode shares a powerful activity where standing on written affirmations becomes a metaphor for rooting yourself in personal values and strengths. Shed the superficial pressures of today’s world and learn how to impact others with energy and joy, focusing on what truly matters and celebrating your unique qualities. This is a great activity to do with kids to help them visualize the important pieces of them and how to stand in who they are, unapologetically.
Tune in, turn up the volume, and step confidently into the life you deserve.

00:00:47.740 --> 00:00:48.442
Turn up squad.
00:00:48.442 --> 00:00:49.849
What's up, let's go.
00:00:49.849 --> 00:00:59.759
I have another playlist for you today, coming in hot with an activity that you can do to help you and the girls in your life like really figure out how to stand in your power.
00:00:59.759 --> 00:01:02.683
Because, let's okay, hold on, I'm gonna get ahead of myself here.
00:01:02.683 --> 00:01:05.944
I get so excited, I'm so happy that you're here.
00:01:05.944 --> 00:01:08.480
Okay, I just need you to know that I'm so happy that you're here.
00:01:08.480 --> 00:01:11.885
Like, let's have a little dance party, like snaps for each other.
00:01:11.885 --> 00:01:15.587
I'm proud of you for showing up again and I'm proud of myself for showing up again.
00:01:16.609 --> 00:01:31.489
Okay, so on today's playlist, we are chatting about one way that you can stand more firm so the voices and opinions of others are less likely to break you, shrink you or push you over.
00:01:31.489 --> 00:01:31.911
Does that feel good?
00:01:31.911 --> 00:01:37.367
So quick volume boost before we get into the nitty gritty of the episode today, which I'll keep short, sweet and to the point.
00:01:37.367 --> 00:01:39.700
Volume boost of the day.
00:01:39.700 --> 00:01:46.405
Listen, the girls in your life will not remember the number on your scale or the size of your jeans, but here's what they will remember.
00:01:46.405 --> 00:01:49.292
They will remember how you showed up for them.
00:01:49.292 --> 00:01:55.593
They will remember how much energy you came with, how much joy you had, how much vibrancy that you had in your life.
00:01:55.593 --> 00:01:58.040
They'll remember the moments with you.
00:01:58.040 --> 00:02:04.441
They will not care about how you look, what size your clothes are, how much weight you've lost, they do not care.
00:02:04.441 --> 00:02:13.033
So I'm asking you today turn up the volume on this one, that you stay focused on what's actually important in life.
00:02:13.033 --> 00:02:14.695
We only got one.
00:02:14.695 --> 00:02:16.021
Stay focused.
00:02:16.562 --> 00:02:34.514
All right, let's jump in the one activity that I'm obsessed with right now, that I share when I go speak to young girls, or I speak to adults, anywhere I go and speak, I share this activity with them because it's so powerful and I think I know that it would be powerful for you to utilize in your life.
00:02:34.514 --> 00:02:44.566
And if you are coming to the Self Love Soiree that myself and my co-founder of the Pretty Powerful Girl program put on together.
00:02:44.566 --> 00:02:59.628
Every single February we do a Self Love Soiree where it's moms and girls come and we do activities, we have presenters, we do so many fun things, there's tears, happy tears and just so much goodness to build that connection with moms and girls.
00:02:59.628 --> 00:03:01.205
It's just absolutely powerful.
00:03:01.205 --> 00:03:04.106
So if you'd love to be involved in that or you're interested, like hit me up.
00:03:04.106 --> 00:03:05.344
Anyways, that wasn't the point of this.
00:03:05.344 --> 00:03:17.741
The point what I was sharing with you is that we're gonna be doing this sort of activity with them, and so I'd love to have you there, but I'll give you a little snippet that you can practice and do at home.
00:03:17.741 --> 00:03:29.324
That could help you, especially when your daughter if you're, if you have a daughter if she comes home and is feeling in a funk someone said something to her, uh, or really just preparing her, and same for adults.
00:03:29.444 --> 00:03:47.536
I love when people ask me what age range certain, like when I speak, like what the age range is, or when we have events, what the age range is, and I'm like listen, homegirl, the girl that is seven years old who is struggling with her confidence is the same as the 77 year old who is struggling with her confidence.
00:03:47.536 --> 00:03:50.003
There is literally no difference.
00:03:50.003 --> 00:04:08.031
Like there might be a little difference because 77 year old has experienced a little bit more of life, but when I've worked with women across different age range, age ranges and girls across different age ranges, they say the same things, they feel the same things, they have similar experiences and so this is true.
00:04:08.031 --> 00:04:14.133
So that's why I always say, like, do this for yourself and or with your girl, because we all need the same thing.
00:04:14.133 --> 00:04:15.405
I do this for myself.
00:04:15.405 --> 00:04:19.784
This is how I stand in my power, and I am not a 10-year-old girl.
00:04:19.784 --> 00:04:22.651
So, okay, listen, here's the thing.
00:04:23.620 --> 00:04:32.409
There's a psychologist named Amy Cuddy Dr Amy Cuddy who coined the phrase power pose, and you might have seen it or experienced it or heard people talk about it.
00:04:32.409 --> 00:04:36.283
It's literally just standing with your hands on your hips right and just standing.
00:04:36.283 --> 00:04:54.169
Very, you know, you have good posture, you're standing very tall, very firm, and this is your power pose because, as a psychologist, she shares how our posture, our presentation, how we right, like how we are in our bodies, changes everything for us.
00:04:54.169 --> 00:05:01.805
It has such a big impact on how we view ourselves and how we feel about ourselves, and also how other people view us and feel about us as well.
00:05:01.805 --> 00:05:13.553
So if we want more confidence, we have to check our body language right, and so I talk a lot about power in your power.
00:05:13.553 --> 00:05:14.937
What does that mean?
00:05:14.937 --> 00:05:24.091
I hear people okay, listen, I'm just gonna go off the side I hear that people say that all the time, stand in your power, stand in your power, your personal power, stand in your power.
00:05:24.132 --> 00:05:25.297
Like, what do you mean?
00:05:25.297 --> 00:05:26.521
What does that mean?
00:05:26.521 --> 00:05:26.822
I get.
00:05:26.822 --> 00:05:36.225
So I do not appreciate it when people tell you things like that and then they don't give you a solution Like, well, how do you do that?
00:05:36.225 --> 00:05:38.872
Because it sounds cute, it sounds fun, but how?
00:05:38.872 --> 00:05:40.261
So?
00:05:40.261 --> 00:05:53.507
As I was thinking about this, because I've also been guilty of telling people this, like telling girls and telling women, like, stand in your power, be more powerful, be more confident right, and I do give tips and strategies for being more confident and feeling more powerful.
00:05:53.507 --> 00:06:00.685
But when I said stand in your power, I kept thinking I don't even what does that mean.
00:06:00.685 --> 00:06:03.230
And then it hit me.
00:06:03.230 --> 00:06:08.524
It hit me like a ton of bricks and I was like this is it?
00:06:08.524 --> 00:06:12.569
This is what it means to stand in your power.
00:06:12.569 --> 00:06:21.857
And so I share this with again anytime I speak to any group, and so here's what it is right, I always share.
00:06:21.857 --> 00:06:23.160
I have a power method.
00:06:23.360 --> 00:06:27.646
I'm not going to go into all of that, but I want you to think about your values right.
00:06:27.646 --> 00:06:31.149
Think about your values right.
00:06:31.149 --> 00:06:32.672
What is important to you?
00:06:32.672 --> 00:06:42.879
I want you to think about your strengths, right.
00:06:42.879 --> 00:06:43.845
Are you really great at reading or writing?
00:06:43.845 --> 00:06:44.668
Are you really great at being a friend?
00:06:44.668 --> 00:06:45.512
Are you really a really great listener?
00:06:45.512 --> 00:06:46.396
Are you really great at giving advice.
00:06:46.396 --> 00:06:47.199
Are you really like?
00:06:47.199 --> 00:06:48.723
What are you really really good at?
00:06:48.723 --> 00:06:50.887
And what are your passions?
00:06:50.887 --> 00:06:52.509
What do you love doing?
00:06:52.509 --> 00:06:54.494
Is it traveling?
00:06:54.494 --> 00:06:57.149
Is it watching sports?
00:06:57.149 --> 00:06:58.786
Is it hanging out with girlfriends?
00:06:58.786 --> 00:07:01.548
Is it being creative?
00:07:01.548 --> 00:07:02.851
Is it crafting?
00:07:02.851 --> 00:07:05.696
What is it that you are so passionate about?
00:07:05.696 --> 00:07:09.230
Right, I want you to think about the things that make you unique.
00:07:10.220 --> 00:07:13.665
What are the things about you that are just different from most people?
00:07:13.665 --> 00:07:27.971
Sometimes, maybe even growing up, you were like oh my gosh, everybody makes fun of me for this, or I don't want anyone to find out about this because they might make fun of me or they might think I'm weird, whatever, right.
00:07:27.971 --> 00:07:28.713
What are those things?
00:07:28.713 --> 00:07:32.509
You know, I remember I would hide my flute.
00:07:32.509 --> 00:07:37.471
So I played the flute from sixth grade all through high school and I'm still mad at myself for stopping.
00:07:37.471 --> 00:07:45.963
I do still randomly play now, but I would take my flute and I would hide it in my book bag Because it was nerdy to be in the band.
00:07:45.963 --> 00:07:50.269
But I was in band because I was really good and really liked it and it was a lot of fun.
00:07:50.269 --> 00:08:02.028
But I hid that part of me because, again, teenagers can be mean and so I didn't wanna get made fun of all the time, so I hid my flute when I would go to school.
00:08:02.459 --> 00:08:05.867
So what are the things, though, that make you unique, that make you you?
00:08:05.867 --> 00:08:08.413
Well, what are your?
00:08:08.413 --> 00:08:09.576
What are the like?
00:08:09.576 --> 00:08:17.961
Just everything about you, essentially, is what I'm getting at the unique qualities, the simple things about you that make you you.
00:08:17.961 --> 00:08:32.740
Your heart, your passions, your smile, your quirky habits, the things you love to do all of those things right, all of those things make you you.
00:08:32.740 --> 00:09:04.762
So, if we're going to stand in our power, we have to take those things, so I'd encourage you to write them down, and, especially if you're sharing this with another person, especially a young kid, write them down, have two of them, two pieces of paper, and put them on the ground, and then firmly step one foot after the other on top of them.
00:09:16.230 --> 00:09:32.561
Hit your power, pose hands on hip, chest up, proud, and you are literally standing in your power, because your power comes from who you are, and so all of your values, all of your strengths, all of your beliefs, your unique qualities, the things that make you you are literally underneath your feet and you are standing in them, standing in your power.
00:09:32.561 --> 00:09:34.878
And what happens when you're in your power?
00:09:34.878 --> 00:09:48.221
You're standing strong when someone comes by and says something mean, when someone tries to push you a little bit further, and you're like, if you try one more time, right, when those things start to happen, the world changes.
00:09:48.221 --> 00:09:49.182
Life happens.
00:09:49.182 --> 00:09:52.538
Life is always going to happen, it's always going to happen.
00:09:52.538 --> 00:10:04.054
But we are planted firmly in the things that are important to us, without the outside words from other humans and beliefs and values and their stuff.
00:10:04.054 --> 00:10:05.259
That's theirs, not mine.
00:10:05.259 --> 00:10:09.971
I stand in my power, I'm literally standing in my power.
00:10:10.251 --> 00:10:21.092
And when that is, and when that someone comes over here and says, oh, you should really look this way, oh, you should really get married sooner, oh, you should really have a kid sooner, you should really do this, and you should do that, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:10:21.092 --> 00:10:23.119
And then it starts again, that playlist.
00:10:23.119 --> 00:10:27.113
It goes around and around in our head and we're like, oh my gosh, why can I not love myself?
00:10:27.113 --> 00:10:30.596
Why can I not, you know, make, why can I not make choices that are right for me and ignore everybody else?
00:10:30.596 --> 00:10:32.298
It's because we're not standing in our power.
00:10:32.298 --> 00:10:38.647
So when you have those words literally underneath your feet, you are standing firmly in your power.
00:10:38.647 --> 00:10:42.758
It's harder to knock you down, it's harder to make you crumble.
00:10:44.549 --> 00:10:45.633
And then what happens?
00:10:45.633 --> 00:10:48.861
When you start to see someone else?
00:10:48.861 --> 00:10:56.923
Little Susie Q over there on Instagram has a prettier, bigger, more beautiful house than you have.
00:10:56.923 --> 00:11:04.859
That person, who started the business at the same time as you, is now making a million dollars and you're still struggling to make six figures.
00:11:04.859 --> 00:11:09.176
The person right like all of the things, where we look at people and we're like, oh my gosh, how does she look that way?
00:11:09.176 --> 00:11:11.875
Or how is she achieving that thing, or how is she doing that?
00:11:11.875 --> 00:11:13.359
I wish I could be more like her.
00:11:13.679 --> 00:11:14.442
And we get those thoughts.
00:11:14.442 --> 00:11:14.822
What do we do?
00:11:14.822 --> 00:11:26.331
We pick up one foot, we pick up our foot off of the things that are making us powerful and we try to tap into Suzy Q's little list over there.
00:11:26.331 --> 00:11:27.333
What am I going to do?
00:11:27.333 --> 00:11:32.923
If I lift up my foot and I reach my leg as far as I can to get over to Susie Q's stuff?
00:11:32.923 --> 00:11:45.181
I'm going to wobble, I might even fall, I might shake, and then all those values and beliefs and everything that made me me, that are important to me, start to slide away.
00:11:48.571 --> 00:11:54.522
As I'm trying to be more and stand in the power of someone else, I lose who I am.
00:11:54.522 --> 00:11:56.792
I'm losing my power, literally.
00:11:56.792 --> 00:12:01.322
So I bring my foot back and now I'm back to standing in my power.
00:12:01.322 --> 00:12:07.982
Now, imagine if all of us, as women and girls, we linked arms and we all are standing right there in our power.
00:12:07.982 --> 00:12:09.633
All of the words are underneath all of our feet.
00:12:09.633 --> 00:12:12.921
There's, let's say there's a thousand people here in this room right now.
00:12:12.921 --> 00:12:26.774
Imagine it You're standing in the in oh my gosh, like you're just standing in a room full of a thousand women who are committed to standing in their power, and we're all literally standing on these words that make us uniquely us, and we're standing in our power.
00:12:26.774 --> 00:12:30.500
How beautiful is that.
00:12:31.741 --> 00:12:32.383
Now, what happens?
00:12:32.383 --> 00:12:37.677
When I lift up my foot, I start getting a little wobbly right.
00:12:37.677 --> 00:12:38.938
I might start to fall.
00:12:38.938 --> 00:12:40.341
Now I push over.
00:12:40.341 --> 00:12:42.412
Susie Q now is standing.
00:12:42.412 --> 00:12:44.220
I don't know if you're Susie Q.
00:12:44.220 --> 00:12:45.205
I think you're wonderful.
00:12:45.264 --> 00:12:55.220
I don't know why I keep using Susie Q, but if you're, susie Q is on my side now and we're linking arms because we've committed that we are going to all stand in our power, and now I'm leaning into her.
00:12:55.220 --> 00:12:56.022
What am I going to do?
00:12:56.022 --> 00:13:26.298
It's going to be a domino effect and we're all going to start falling and falling and falling, because when we don't stand in our own power and we're trying to reach someone else's power, or we start doubting ourselves in this room full of a thousand incredible humans, we start leaning and we start falling, and then we make it's a ripple effect of everyone else starts to get a little bit more uncomfortable, because when we lose our confidence, when we lose our sense of self, when we lose our power, we are no longer encouraging and are a great example of how to stand in your power.
00:13:26.298 --> 00:13:30.412
So then the people around us then start to struggle as well.
00:13:30.412 --> 00:13:32.899
So how can we all be better humans?
00:13:32.899 --> 00:13:35.850
How can we all support and encourage one another?
00:13:35.850 --> 00:13:40.802
How can we create a more powerful sisterhood with girls and women?
00:13:40.802 --> 00:13:42.193
Is that we all encourage each other?
00:13:42.495 --> 00:13:43.799
Hey, you stay in your power.
00:13:43.799 --> 00:13:46.416
Don't try to be like me.
00:13:46.416 --> 00:14:04.957
I won't try to be like you, because I know that the only way that I can stay firm and I can stay on my feet and not fall over and not break and not bend, is if I stand in what makes me me and you stand in what makes you you.
00:14:04.957 --> 00:14:10.273
So I'm going to do a quick tempo check here.
00:14:10.273 --> 00:14:16.398
Have you ever experienced not feeling completely in your power.
00:14:16.398 --> 00:14:22.696
Have you ever had that moment where you literally are?
00:14:22.696 --> 00:14:35.628
Maybe you are surrounded by lots of incredible humans and you're like I don't belong here, I'm not good enough for this, I'm not smart enough, pretty enough, bold enough, brave enough for this.
00:14:35.628 --> 00:14:42.390
Or maybe you do see Suzy Q on Instagram and you're like wow, she's really good at making those videos.
00:14:42.390 --> 00:14:44.135
Why do I even try?
00:14:44.135 --> 00:14:45.506
I look like a hot mess over here.
00:14:45.506 --> 00:14:47.110
I should just give up.
00:14:47.110 --> 00:14:50.337
Have you ever experienced not feeling in your power?
00:14:50.337 --> 00:15:04.232
And if you have, I want to ask you how does this new strategy, how does this new activity of visualizing the things that make you you and are important to you underneath your feet and you're standing firmly in them.
00:15:05.934 --> 00:15:06.916
How does that make you feel?
00:15:06.916 --> 00:15:10.559
Does it make you stand up a little taller?
00:15:10.559 --> 00:15:12.706
Does it make you feel a little bit more confident?
00:15:12.706 --> 00:15:17.398
Does it just serve as a great reminder that you just need to be you?
00:15:17.398 --> 00:15:31.298
And do you think that this type of message and activity could really support the girls in your life to remember to stand in their power and let other girls stand in their power?
00:15:34.005 --> 00:15:36.450
So I want to end with this.
00:15:36.450 --> 00:15:38.855
I want to give you a quick power-up tip.
00:15:38.855 --> 00:15:47.778
When you're looking at yourself in the mirror, okay, I want you to look in your eyes and see who you are.
00:15:47.778 --> 00:15:55.395
What I talked about today was nothing about how you looked, even if you said, sure, I love my smile, sure, write that down, cool, whatever.
00:15:55.395 --> 00:15:58.293
But it wasn't about how you looked.
00:15:58.293 --> 00:16:07.287
It was everything that made you you Everything that was unique and special about you, you Everything that was unique and special about you.
00:16:07.287 --> 00:16:10.452
But so much of our time and our energy is spent on looking at how we appear to ourselves and to others.
00:16:10.452 --> 00:16:34.578
So I want you, next time you go up to a mirror, you're brushing your teeth tonight or you're picking out your outfit to go out to dinner, when you look at yourself in the mirror, I want you to get close and look into your eyes and I want you to see who you are, not what you look like.
00:16:34.578 --> 00:16:43.558
And again, if you're a mom listening to this and you have daughters at home, teach them this power method, please.
00:16:44.044 --> 00:16:50.328
All right, quick playlist picks before I jump off of here and we wrap this up 75 Day Healthy.
00:16:50.328 --> 00:17:06.113
I'm biased because I wrote it, but if you, it is a program that I'm doing right now for myself and with a few women in my life and we're doing the 75 Day Healthy Challenge, and so this is one of my favorite playlists, because every day is a motivational message.
00:17:06.113 --> 00:17:08.697
It's about creating health in our lives.
00:17:08.697 --> 00:17:14.793
It's about making it sustainable for the long term and not a quick fix.
00:17:14.793 --> 00:17:20.706
It's about moving our bodies and taking care of our bodies and focusing on health, not weight loss, and so that's one of my favorite picks right now.
00:17:20.706 --> 00:17:22.329
If you're interested, I'll drop that in the show notes.
00:17:22.329 --> 00:17:30.469
One of the lyrics that I keep repeating my head over and over and over again and oh my gosh, before I should have come on, I should have checked.
00:17:30.469 --> 00:17:39.653
I'll put it in the show notes the person who sings the song, but the lyric is you are beautiful, why you tripping girl?
00:17:39.653 --> 00:17:44.741
And so she repeats that over and over again, and I just love it so much.
00:17:44.741 --> 00:17:47.630
It's in my brain over and over again, so I just love it so much.
00:17:48.106 --> 00:17:54.295
And another book just to throw out, another one that's not written by me, is Radical Confidence by Lisa Bilyeu.
00:17:54.295 --> 00:17:55.648
I just read that a couple months ago.
00:17:55.648 --> 00:17:56.932
Really enjoyed that.
00:17:56.932 --> 00:17:57.756
It's a fun read.
00:17:57.756 --> 00:18:00.645
So if you're looking for another book about confidence, that would be it.
00:18:00.645 --> 00:18:02.690
And so, sister, with that, we are wrapping it up.
00:18:02.690 --> 00:18:03.490
I will.
00:18:03.490 --> 00:18:07.519
I can't wait to share the next playlist with you on the next episode.
00:18:07.519 --> 00:18:12.634
So keep turning it up, keep stepping and standing in to your power.
00:18:12.634 --> 00:18:14.542
Now go, turn it up, let's go.
