Speaker 2: I'm also very good mate. I feel like I know more about Aberdeen than I did on Firm. On the Eidt Brilliant. That's the way it should be.
Speaker 1: You're following a big team. It's only taken me 29 years, but we got there eventually. But we'll start with Manchester City becoming the fifth different team to win the English top flight in three consecutive seasons, following on from Huddersfield Town. Arsenal, liverpool and Man United have done it twice. It was the scenes on Saturday or Sunday or whatever day it was. They were all morphed into one. But, yeah, manchester City being handed the trophy. We already knew they had won it, no real surprises, and they went out with a fairly comfortable victory against Chelsea, having already sewn up the title. The title was already sewn up due to the favour that Forrest stunned them on Saturday evening, where they ran out 1-0 winners against Arsenal. Now Erdogan has given it away to Gibbs White.
Speaker 3: Alonni has made a move back to his right, Danilo to his left.
Speaker 2: It's Alonni, it's 1-0. Arsenal's pain is not in.
Speaker 3: Forrest's pleasure because, frozen in time, that goal keeps them up.
Speaker 1: Incredible scenes at the Forrest ground. Mike Wee chatted through our predictions for this one. That said, a fancy Forrest to wrap it up on Saturday evening, and they did duly that. I think it's hard to be too critical on Arsenal. In the grand scheme of things, it's quite clear for them their season's over, and it looked like that during the game. But for Forrest, i tell you, they've had what did we say? 426 signings this season, something like that. A couple of them had to work out and the two guys involved in that goal, morgan Gibbs, white and Alonni, are probably their best two signings by a long way this season.
Speaker 3: Alonni, especially in the last few weeks, usually kicks out this campaign at the right time, obviously to lift Forrest out of the depth of relegation. I think it's tremendous what Cooper's done over the last, really since his arrival a couple of years ago and the fact that this team was routed to the bottom of the championship table. They took over and he's lifted them all the way up to Premier League survival and it's outstanding. And they needed a big chunk of players because this was barely a decent enough championship team and he's turned into a Premier League team with a solid base. Now that he can work from and he knows who he's got to get. With a club like Jesse Lingard, he's got to be one of them.
Speaker 3: That's probably leading the Exidor very quickly, but he now knows what this team can be and what it needs to be to go one forward and it's be comfortable in Premier League next season. So I think you've got to take your hats off to what Cooper's done, and through difficult circumstances from external pressures more so than anything. I know he's been backed internally with new contracts and the board's always stood by him and it shows you that it's paid off this thing around, rather than maybe the chopping and changing at the foot of the table that some of the other teams done. If you've got a clear belief in what the man's doing, then you stick by him, and if he takes you down, well so be it. But at least you can really stick by your principles and say you're trying to do the right thing and it just didn't come off, and Forrest being rewarded for it this time.
Speaker 1: Yeah, considering his job was on the line, seven games in. It's quite remarkable to think where they've come and it's been a bit of an up and down season because I remember there was a point we said we thought Forrest were fine, sort of January time, and they got to drive back into it. But you're absolutely right, miraculous job. In the notes it says on September 21st 2021, forrest were bottom of the championship, which is within the life cycle of this podcast, which is quite remarkable to think that that's how recently in time they were bottom of the championship was when we were talking on this show. So, yeah, interesting to see a team stick by their manager and it pay off and Sheila really the home forms being the catalyst for them, as it often is for teams that need to stay up in their first season and they'll probably look to build on that next year.
Speaker 1: And, as Mike says, shoe out, shoe out, force out, shoe. Yeah, shoe, not SHOE. The other shoe like Shoe, shoe out some of the players they don't want Lingard. The other one I had was John Joe Shelby as well, who Chris Wood. We thought John Joe Shelby was not excited, but he just kind of seemed to get in the way of Gibbs White.
Speaker 3: There's a lot of boys up there for us.
Speaker 2: You could say that about that.
Speaker 1: But yeah, i don't really know what I'm asking you. They stay up because they're getting at home and they've got some boys.
Speaker 2: Yeah, just like a lot of teams in the Premier League, they do have elements of quality that they won't have their moments in games where they can take it to the opposition. But, as you quite rightly say, they've made their ground a bit of a fortress and it's not something that the teams below them can say. And that's why they've survived a game of sparing the league list and everything on a three-way show to get that the last place of safety. But again it just goes to show you chop the shit in the bed and changing your manager because you're a little bit closer to the bottom end of the table than you would like. Or even when it comes to Southampton, they basically bend Hassan Hootle because they just thought it had kind of fizzled out. They're chickens. Have all come home to Roost at once.
Speaker 2: The lists are the same, i don't think, but they still be in a relegation fight. I'm sure we'll come on to talk about it, but I definitely know they wouldn't have put in that kind of performance against Newcastle. Some of the stats were mind-boggling and leads have went from Marcelo Bielsa to Sam Audeis Gravy Ball. So whether we're like four games to go. So I just go to show some things of you. You've got to, you've got to back the boy that's brought you to the dance in the first place, and you never know what could, what could happen.
Speaker 1: Well, forest's home record puts his 10th in the league 30 points at home, and I think they've only got what 37. So that's quite impressive, you know, above Wolves, fulham, west Ham, chelsea. But the bottom three for home former Southampton, leicester and Everton leads 16th. So that is definitely what saved them, because if they had a home form, anything like the teams in and around them, they'd be long gone, and it does seem to. You know, it does seem to be a good, old-fashioned ground with a good atmosphere. We joked last season when Brendan Rodgers said oh, kara Road, three o'clock on a Saturday, when the sun's shining, difficult place to come and what sounds like the least difficult place to go. But it seems like the forest ground has genuinely been a difficult place to go for most teams This season. The team that looks set to stay up with Forest in the top flight is the team sticking by, is the team sticking by their side, with a late equaliser for Everton?
Speaker 3: Is there anything more?
Speaker 1: Sean Dish than Tarkovsky to Keane, to Yerimina, to score a 99th minute equaliser. He was absolutely buzzing about that. They've played that same cross because they scored with it against Arsenal in his first game, with the back post to Tarkovsky and they do it every time and paid off again. But what a vital point that is for Everton, mike, that very much puts it in their hands and really all they need is a point. Is it Lester? 18 goal difference? they're 24. So no, potentially not. They might need to win.
Speaker 3: Yeah, and they've got Bournemouth at home, which I know you said their home forms play right at the moment, but you could say that Bournemouth's got he hot to play for now. I'm not even sure if Bournemouth's even moving up the table. If that's even possible, you'd be able to keep going They could actually move up to.
Speaker 1: they could leapfrog both West Ham and Wolves to 13th.
Speaker 3: Well, they've got an incentive, i suppose, for extra bonus money, but outside of that, their job's already been done with survival. Weeks ago now, and I think Everton I've got a few I think we maybe said this last week or a couple weeks before that if there's a team that can grind out results that are necessary to keep on in the division, it's going to be ditch at the moment and I think that's what's going to come. They've managed to do tremendously well at Wolves there and get the point, and they need to push them towards safety, and I think that's really what's going to come in the division, because Dice shows how to be very difficult to beat and I think the next manager that we'll talk about is a bit of the yesterday's man.
Speaker 1: Anyway, Well, let's just do that straight away then. So, while the modern day, sam Allardice is edging towards safety, yesterday's man is very much taking his team towards the brink. I tell you what. It wasn't fabulous build up at all, it was fucking. And he's dreadful defending it's what it is them to get past two players on the line, sheila, we were quite excited about the big Sam experiment, so to say, and the the £2 million bonus that he could potentially see himself get had he kept his team up, but it's not looking great. They, you know they took the early lead against West Ham and then were dreadful thereafter, and they've really, really left it all to do. They need a favour from both Leicester and Everton if they're going to stay up, so it doesn't look like big Sam is going to get his bonus.
Speaker 2: No, i mean, you know, still, half a mil for four games is no bad going, you know. But I think it's not even to say that. You know, big Sam couldn't have kept them up really had they brought them in earlier. But four games to go, i mean, you know, not everybody's. Jim Leishman, you know. So we can, they can, they can, they can have that sort of impact in such a short space of time and granted that I think his first game was against Man City, so we were still, you know, chasing at that point. So you can. Basically I write that one off there's from a kickoff, but again, we can. We can talk about, like, maybe getting ahead of myself here, but you said that one of the boys at work, you like it was on Sky Sports News, he's the manager of the season candidates. It may as well just rename that blokes that have kept their job for like the duration of the season because everyone else has been sat.
Speaker 1: Well Gario and. EO must be in with a shout, is he?
Speaker 2: he only came in Yeah, i know no, he's saying nothing that deserved me as well.
Speaker 2: So there's like two of the candidates or the nominees haven't even been there a full season, which is supposed to show the sort of the Russian rule at nature of the family. But no, i think, i don't think Big Sam always in his league of leagues, go down, which which kind of tells you everything you need to know about the situation, that he probably was just there in for a payday and then if, if they survive, then great, brilliant enough, two million in the bank and I can just retire.
Speaker 1: I don't know, i think he, i think even he thought he was retired yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2: he must have been a surprising phone call, surely this. Surely the Big Sam Clarkson isn't going off again after this surely last West Brom, that was two years ago West Brom, and then that was the first time he'd ever been relegated, and obviously this is the other brink of number two. So you know probably that that myth can can finally die.
Speaker 1: So shame it's a bit like undertake a miso-mania, isn't it? you can't, you should just just left it.
Speaker 2: Yeah, should have probably just not take that West Brom job, but it's just one of them, but it's. It's just funny that you know sort of Roy Hodgson and Neil Warnock are still still cutting about and doing bits, doing, doing the jobs that they're kind of there to do with. His relegation fire fighter, sam Ardys is probably that set done and no one's going to give him a job. No one's going to have my job as like a long-term project.
Speaker 1: Well, my game I just had tonight. The assistant is a Leeds fan and he's a Leeds fan and he also follows Dundee and I did so it's a pretty rough season.
Speaker 1: That's a rough one. But he said he'd resigned himself to relegation. Now he just hopes Big Sam does leave. And he said. He said when Big Sam got the job he was always worried. That worst-case scenario was we got relegated and kept Big Sam. He said if we stayed up and kept Big Sam, that's fine, because we've stayed up and he'd be gone by September. We can get somebody else in anyway. But going down and keeping Big Sam would be an absolute disaster and I don't know. There's a bit of me that wonders whether that is things that could be a possibility, given the dearth of sort of managerial candidates and Big Sam's ability to sell himself that he might convince them. And it has been. I think. To be fair to Big Sam, it is a pretty thankless task. Four games to go.
Speaker 2: Oh well, you say thankless, like if he does it. That's two million, that's pretty big. Thank you, that's your hand.
Speaker 2: I'll describe it as thankless, you know. But that's the thing. Like he don't think he has, even even with that, you know, that big, big incentive. He doesn't really have much skin in the race and they don't, lies the problem Clearly, clearly thinks a lot of himself, whether that's just attacked it to the track from.
Speaker 2: You know the players being under the microscope. When you say I know just as much as pep and blah, blah, blah, it's like, yeah, but peps, like at the top of the table you're, you know so I never, i never, been anywhere near it really. So I think that's, that's part of the problem. If you, if you're getting a manager in to the firefight as such, like Kenny, what can you? what palace did they got? they got in Hodgson, who you know clearly has an affinity with the club. He's a supporter, if I'm right. So it just it does help to have a guy I know I mentioned him earlier, jim Leishman, when he was brought into firefight for the firmware. He does have a like skin in the race. He wants the club to stay up, whereas Barry Robbson.
Speaker 2: I would even Barry Robbson yeah, it doesn't even necessarily mean for a, for a relegation. You just need to give a guy who wants to do well, and so you're getting in, getting in big sound, four games to go. I don't think he would lose one wink of sleep whether we get relegated or not, and I guess really no, and he probably looked at the two million quid like a lottery, like if I get it.
Speaker 1: Yeah, if I get it, i've got half a mil and I'll go back to talk sport and the no tippy tappy bullshit podcast that he does. I'm sure make some a few quid. Yeah, it's. I wonder. I wonder if this season we've we've spoken before that this season's been crazy for the amount of managerial changes. Now, when it comes to the end of season quiz and I ask you who was first to go and going to take a long, long winded think back to you the. Was it too cool? was it too cool? I'll go, thank you. It was two went the same weekend, i think too cool and maybe Parker went to save the park yeah, i think two.
Speaker 1: I think two.
Speaker 1: Well, too cool, technically went to his own accord as well, but I think there was two went the same day and too cool was one of them that was like seven, six, seven games in.
Speaker 1: But yeah, just given there's been so many changes and you know the teams that have survived largely are, you know, you've got Bournemouth and Forrest, who are two teams that have stuck by guys in difficult times, and and then you've got leads who have changed twice. Less to do have changed. I still forget Dean Smith's list of manager and Southampton have changed twice and whether whether next season the guys coming up them, more of them, might stick with them, with their managers, rather than changing quite so readily, because it doesn't, it really doesn't appear to be working. And even the teams that have changed and it has sort of worked your, your rules, your palace and Everton, if they stay up, but particularly palace. You know they've now got to go back to the drawboard for next season, you'd imagine, because keep right, keep right, keep right, keep right forever. So and rules are now looking, now looks like Lopategis are going to leave rules in the summer, so then they're back to the drawboard as well yeah, but with with palace.
Speaker 2: Well, i think we can predict this would happen anyway, because they're they're throwing a games up until Vera's being let go was horrendous, and then they've played like 10 well, not not quite 10, but I haven't said that like totem before. This run of games weren't flirting with the top four. Now they're be lucky to make Europe and they've been in amongst that run. So, yeah, i think we kind of all predicted that the run of games would was more favorable towards palace, so they were definitely going to, you know, finish roughly where they are now and it's just been just. It's just been like the performance of anything that that's almost improved.
Speaker 1: Yeah, backs up sticking with the manager, or or exactly yeah or the.
Speaker 2: It's the one example where it's work yeah, deciding to change it there at the right time, right again, as I say, like four games to go is not really, not really, but it doesn't matter who the manager is. Really that's not a lot of time to get in there and change anything much no, can't change anything in four weeks, not when you're trying to try and motivate the players, but that's pretty much it well, he found a fiver on the touchline, didn't he?
Speaker 1: so maybe you can offer that to one of the players and much to the amusement of every clickbait news producer out there, and the last team in the relegation battle looking to stay up, one of the foxes, as they seen out, dismal, no, no draw at the weekend, which I had looked out a clip for and appear to have closed it by mistake. New castle, nil, leicester Citadel, but Leicester first, and then we'll sort of segue into teams that have done slightly better. But yeah, leicester, mike on the brink, they need a win, they need a fiver, i suppose they need a win and they could rely on Everton not winning, as opposed to leads who need Everton to lose. But it feels remarkable. I still find it a bit mental that they're gonna go down.
Speaker 1: We genuinely gave Keira a really hard time in the prediction show for seeing Leicester to go down because it seemed like such a ludicrous suggestion at the time. And that team on paper is is, you know, it's right up there with West Ham in 2003. Was it the two good, the original kind of too good to go down team, and getting rid of Rogers just looks more and more silly now as well. Because Dean Smith I keep forgetting he's there.
Speaker 3: He's done so little yeah, and it's a struggle to really think of why the boards made that kind of move and desperation and such. But it's like you know, rogers at least has a game plan that could get you. So it's a bit bit a bit of a longer term, sam Ardice. It's like you're just getting rid of a boy to hopefully get a bounce out of it. It's not really working like.
Speaker 3: Dean Smith's a perfectly fine manager and if they do keep on for the championship, i suppose Leicester, with a bit of retooling, could easily be back in the Premier League in a season's time.
Speaker 3: But it just seemed like a strange move at the time. Like I said, the quality that team does possess and it's got deficiencies. Of course that's why they're down there. But I suppose when you're asking them to beat West Ham at home, when they'll ask to receive to stay in the division, potentially it's not the worst outcome and they've got a Europa Conference final coming up, so I think they do have a decent chance.
Speaker 3: But it's a big ask and they've not helped themselves get into this position. But I suppose going up to St James's Park, leaving on Newcastle, they need a point for Champions League football and something to hang your hand, because that has been a difficult place to go for many teams this season. So there is maybe signs of it, but the fact that they've left it this way and I'm still asking for a favour to keep them in the division it could be a big ask to see them, and if they go down then they've really got to cut their cloth accordingly, because they'll be up against the financial fair play for the EFL, never mind the Premier League, and you like to think Madison's not still having for a championship season, is they?
Speaker 1: No, he has Barnes.
Speaker 3: There'll be a fair few names and there'll be all the quality names that will definitely get pushed by Premier League teams. I mean Taleman's going for a free as well, so in fact, if I ask him most of the year in midfield anyway, mouraday.
Speaker 1: Gordy and Yorke Pérez. Yeah, if you look at that team, that started even just the game against Lesser. So Madison didn't start. We've already mentioned him. He'll be away. Jamie Vardy or Pubba Blue Retire can't imagine him wanting to play a season in the championship now.
Speaker 2: Probably my place in the championship, just for old times sake.
Speaker 1: Ian Acho. I suspect he'll be away. A newly promoted team at worst would probably be keen to pick him up. Tealamans is going to go in a free. Indeed he'll go. Somebody will pick up. Indeed he's still a quality player. Hestanya surely goes. Hadi Souter's not long joined but has been reasonably impressive. Maybe stays around, johnny Evans probably stays around, vout Fass probably stays around and Thomas probably stays around. But then they've been really shit defensively, so not exactly buzzing that you get to keep your back five. And then Iverson and Goals or Danny Ward. It's pretty terrible potential there for them. And the guy they sent a guy, tete in January again, was it his debut? He looked absolutely electric.
Speaker 3: He looked electric.
Speaker 1: Everybody was like this guy. This guy's going to save them and he's hardly kicked a ball since, which is a strange one.
Speaker 2: The stats against Newcastle are probably mental. This is a team that, when Rogers was in charge, you knew that they would have a decent share of possession. They could kind of keep the ball up there with the best of them and then away to Newcastle, which is a hard game, and they have 17% possession.
Speaker 1: That's mental, that's crazy, it's hard to even think what that looks like, isn't it?
Speaker 2: Absolutely not. The expected goal is 0.01.
Speaker 1: I think that possession is 17.
Speaker 2: No shots on target. No shots at all. actually, they did have one, sheila.
Speaker 1: I think that screenshot you're looking at was at 90 minutes In 90 minutes of football.
Speaker 2: I obviously put me to save.
Speaker 1: Save Kistanya Last minute.
Speaker 2: Up until that point no shots, none whatsoever, no corners, nothing. I was furious, obviously me and Mike and Jamie maybe less so, but we've experienced our fair share of relegation dogfights. And see if the fars went away from home where if they win the game then it's in our hands. And they didn't even manage a shot and go, didn't even manage above 20% possession, that'd be fucking loaded. They may have had a bad IOS, but it's silly. There should be a IOS, because that's really just not good enough. I know Newcastle was a difficult team and points a point, but if you win that game, then the momentum's with you. All of a sudden, everton need a favour from whoever Lester are playing West Ham rather than the other way around, especially considering the fact that we already knew that Everton had drawn that game. They had the initiative. A one would give them the initiative. I was raging on behalf of Lester fans. I was pet.
Speaker 1: It is mental to think a win would have taken them out of their relegation zone. And their only shot in the entire game was in the 92nd minute from their only corner. In the entire game, if you're Gary Neville as well, they only conceded five fouls. He'd have been absolutely furious. He'd have wanted Hannibal to come on and just run around and kick a few foes just to get them going. But like their pass stats as well Newcastle 702 passes, 628 accurate 89% accuracy. Lester 209 passes, 123 accurate, 59% accuracy. But that's horrendous, that 50% accuracy. Long balls 17, 27% accuracy. Crosses one 20%, like that's.
Speaker 2: But this is still a, at least in terms of personality. This is still a branded road just team. How the fuck is it like, say, tiller and the Madison Barnes? you know all of them.
Speaker 1: Both Barnes and Madison didn't bleed, so that's Yeah.
Speaker 2: Well again, which is which which raises eyebrows in itself, but like for this Lester side, who you know are are capable of at the very least having a decent share of the ball to go to, that is It's just. I mean again, i'll use the ball on his example It's so difficult to to try and cling on for a point for one game and then try, and you know, go on the attack for the, for the next game, you can have to put all your eggs in one basket. You're either the defensive team that try and sneak a, sneak a winner when you can a la Shondesh, or, you know, try and score your way at trouble. I like, not them. For us You can't, you can't be neither really.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, which is exactly what Lester have turned into, and Lester have all the hallmarks of a team that get relegated and disappeared as well. You know as it.
Speaker 2: It reminds me more of when Newcastle went down the first time, when Sheeter took over for like the last rubber half dozen games and he still had good players that were just totally bogging all over the place And it just just, i mean just ended up running.
Speaker 1: Is that when they is that when? No, that wasn't Benitez, Because he took them down and came back. No, then it wasn't Benitez. No, it's not.
Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no Was it.
Speaker 3: And they had. I thought Big Sam brought them up, maybe slightly after that. No, no, no, No. I made that.
Speaker 2: I got them relegated and then Cuten, cuten, cuten, bring them up. Yeah, because they played. that was when they played in, like the yellow, the yellow stripes.
Speaker 3: Newcastle? I don't see, it was 2009.
Speaker 2: So Big Sam was 2008,. Was he not? No, he was.
Speaker 3: So, but I remember that there was no the kind of buzz of Andy Carroll, it was Cuten, sheila.
Speaker 2: It was Chris Cuten. Yeah, it was Chris Cuten who took them up, but like they still had, like Damien Duff and Kevin Nolan.
Speaker 1: Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan got 17 goals each that season, yeah, but this season before, when it's Jonas Gutierrez, mind you.
Speaker 2: They still had some decent players, like the first time when Sheila was trying to take over, and First in a great team manager.
Speaker 3: How did this team go down?
Speaker 2: Hachini was alright.
Speaker 1: Ozearrique was alright, kevin Nolan was alright, joey Barton was alright, wayne Routledge, peter Lovencrantz, danny Simpson.
Speaker 2: Now you can see that she was sort of the parallels with this Leicester side, where there are some quality players there, niall Ranger Yeah, i say with quality players there and also Niall Ranger. But I think they had, like the Ami, the both the Ami, they had Sheila.
Speaker 1: They had Sheila Leon Best, andy Carroll, loire, loire.
Speaker 3: The manager says the manager through lines meant to look because it was hard ice from May 2017 to the net. Kevin Keegan for 2008 to September and you had Joe Keneer for 2008 to 2009. Then you had Alan Shearer, john Keeneer, man Houghton is the interim at points and then Shearer. For some reason, chris Houghton was the interim and Joe Keneer was the manager Acting in the regular manager's absence when Keneer was returned from surgery. So just that basket case of a club at that point as well.
Speaker 2: But Joe Keneer no Like Johan.
Speaker 3: Kabae, johan Kabae, johan Kabae, johan Kabae, johan.
Speaker 2: Kabae. Johan Kabae didn't even know that He was the director. Was the director a footballer or something at that point? Yeah, he even produced half of players names.
Speaker 3: Mad, absolutely mad. No, in fact, that's even worse, because he was the new class United manager for 2008 to 2009. And four years later they came back to be the director of the football.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: This worked well. The first time.
Speaker 1: There's some other decent names in this squad as well. You've got James Tavanier was in the full squad for that season. As in the Rangers, James Tavanier, Patrick Van Anholt had been on loan and went back to Chelsea. I didn't even realise he started at Chelsea. Jeremy went down with them and he left for Turkey. Fraser Foster four-star sorry was sent out and loaned to Norwich. But if you come super interesting I say super interesting. You come under the under 18s, though. Which current Newcastle legend, who has just been called a five for the Champions League, was in their under 18s squad?
Speaker 3: Paul.
Speaker 1: Domet Paul. Domet Paul.
Speaker 2: Domet.
Speaker 1: Paul Domet.
Speaker 2: Paul Domet. I don't care, paul Domet, paul Domet.
Speaker 1: Paul Domet, 17-year-old Paul Domet, watching his watching his boyhood club get relegated and now look at them in a champion.
Speaker 2: I think he's been the majority of his time in St James's Park just just hiding. They can't, they can't, they can't release me if they can't find me. so I'm just constantly on the run.
Speaker 1: We're going to get a game for everybody? What if they don't know who I am?
Speaker 2: Just keep running about hiding and the rafters like stinging WCW, just stinging them at these.
Speaker 1: Sammy Amiobi was in the under 18 squad as well. Sheila Sammy Amiobi was, but oh man, that's absolutely sensational. Quite weird looking at some of the boys here that didn't quite make it. Jack Alnwick, who's here now, cardiff. He was a. He was their goalkeeper at the time ritual downhill.
Speaker 2: I'm sure everybody's absolutely. the listeners are on the edge of their seat looking at the, listening to the legends that were relegated with Newcastle. But to bring it back into Leicester, you seem a point that, despite having some good players, if you just don't have the momentum, then you know you eventually run out of games and you find yourself down. So when it looks like that's what's going to happen to Leicester, Is Danny Simpson in the current Leicester team. No, surely not. No he's long since gone. Oh is he.
Speaker 1: Honestly, he's gone Fair enough Just because Danny Simpson was in this Newcastle team.
Speaker 3: Bristol City. Do I go from the Bristol City team or direct MacArthur?
Speaker 2: Fair enough.
Speaker 1: Talking of Newcastle, though, segue into the top end of the table. They've guaranteed Champions League football for next year. It's almost a year to the day since we did our two early predictions. I was laughed out the room for saying Newcastle would qualify for the Champions League. Just look at that. Finished fourth, 70 points. How do we rate this season? I did see an interesting thread on Twitter just talking about how salaries which I think most people know, but salaries are the biggest indicator of success. So almost always the team that won the league have the biggest wage budget and it's pretty follows the league pretty closely the whole way down. That's a good way of determining success. Now, it's unlikely Newcastle are the fourth highest wage budget, but they probably have a top six, top seven wage budget now In some ways, maybe not overachieving quite as much as being made out. The press are certainly singing house praises, but nonetheless he has done a good job and Newcastle will probably now be able to attract yet another calibre of player higher for next season to kick on again.
Speaker 3: I think they've nipped in at the right time. They've seen Tottenham, chelsea and, to a certain extent, liverpool have down seasons. I think they've been the purvellers of good fortune rather than they don't deserve it, but I think they have found a way of playing very quickly. That's shy to watch. To be honest, i think the ball's in play the least time at Newcastle games. They love a time-miss. There's nothing wrong with it if you can get away with it, but I think it's only going to take you so far. So they do need to improve their team if they want to go next season. I think one of the advantages of a Newcastle in this campaign has been they've not got any European football to contend with, and it's going to be interesting with Arsenal next season when they've got Champions League football to deal with. Chelsea might get a free run a bit. Tottenham might get a free run at it to get back into the top four.
Speaker 3: I suppose, while they're ahead of schedule and I think they're actually going to run into a lot of problems because they're already up against the financial fair play kind of ceiling They've got to be smart in their recruitment and how they go about it, but they obviously need depth. We're obviously talking about legends of the past, like Paul Dummick, still kicker in the squad, and there's quite a few of those guys. You think that they need to move on to a certain extent, but how do you replace them on the cheap and how do you still maintain your home ground quality as well? And that sounds like Anthony Gordon having helped them so far. So they need to get less of them in more smart recruitment. Even Chris Wood they've got a feedback for Chris Wood, but they took a £10 loss on Chris Wood for effectively ensuring to stay in the Premier League ahead of Burnley last time out. So I do think that, while they've achieved tremendously well, i think the real test of what Newcastle are and will be is next season.
Speaker 1: Yeah, i think that's all very fair enough because there is a lot of Eddie Howe is very good at getting players to overperform. We've seen it at Bournemouth. The fact that players like Adam Smith are still kicking about when they were playing in League One for Eddie Howe's Bournemouth in League Two even, is impressive. But there are a lot of players in that Newcastle team that you think will probably struggle at the Champions League level and maybe struggle again. And there's an element, a suspect of second season syndrome in a way, with this Newcastle side and the way that Howe came in. They've played.
Speaker 1: I heard somebody else compare them to a Simeone side and Howe spent a lot of time with Simeone between jobs. So that is probably where that comparison comes from and the way they break the game down and they're very shithousing. But good managers are going to be wise to that next year much quicker than they were this season. I've seen Newcastle have quite a significant dip after Christmas before they kicked on again. So I think that's very fair, but they do still have long staff Fabian Schar, jacob Murphy, among others. Al Morone had a purple patch in October and then The purple is the purple patch.
Speaker 1: The purple is the purple patches, but has been pretty anonymous since Then. you're sort of Alan St Maximans. they probably could do with trying to get some cash for him, even to an extent. maybe even somebody like Callan Wilson who spends 75 to 80% of the season injured, it might be worth trying to cash in.
Speaker 2: He's like the full-time scorer in the division, you know.
Speaker 3: Is he? Mike's never.
Speaker 2: Obviously Harlan Kane no.
Speaker 3: Tony.
Speaker 2: In terms of legal. Sorry, harlan Kane, tony, and then it's 18?.
Speaker 1: He's played 30 games, to be fair, which is what I thought you were going to play.
Speaker 2: You're right, though he doesn't really seem like a 90-minute man, and you've got a hectic European schedule, then you can't really afford players.
Speaker 1: He has also sort of eight of those 18 goals And two games The last six weeks against Everton, Southampton, Leeds. So not to take away the obviously some of those goals.
Speaker 2: No, but I get your point though. Again, like you say, he managed to get these players to overform. So you're both right that the teams you have expected to be around the top four start at this, and Chelsea, liverpool, spurs have all had pretty pissed seasons and Newcastle have been the best place to take advantage of that. But yeah, i don't say that So like a picture, and it was like Trippier, who's obviously been a big player for Newcastle, and I wanted to say Bruno, but if not Bruno, it was a player of that sort of calibre and then long staff and it's like right, you're definitely odd one out because you will be one of the first ones at the door when you know, as soon as that champion we get Anthem Hitch, you will be right off Because you've got new business being in the Champions League side.
Speaker 1: Even like a Dan Burn, Dan Burn playing left back in the Champions League.
Speaker 2: No, but I mean, look again like that was the kind of sending they wanted to make to jump to that next level and they're just getting well over performing. You can see Trippier has fallen off a cliff at any moment.
Speaker 1: He's got the old father time to worry about as well.
Speaker 2: Exactly yeah So, and again they do have the likes of Botman Bruno and the likes of EZAC to sort of fall back on. So it's going to be an interesting input, obviously. So it's going to be an interesting summer for Newcastle in terms of both outgoing and incoming.
Speaker 3: Quite old as well, like we can talk about point 31,. Okay, for a go-kid that's not too elderly, but you know you're still getting up there. Trippier 32, like we talked about Boddham at 31,. Fabian Shear 31,. Dan Burn 31,. So I mean that's Burn 31.
Speaker 1: Yeah, I can say.
Speaker 3: But he's a really remember that famous Moise versus film game by my night. But he's snuck like 66 crosses and Dan Burn at 6.7 was heading the more of a Moise. So he's been around for a long while there, like Carl Milson 31 as well, so like five or six years, starting off.
Speaker 1: I'm burning the same age as Carl Milson.
Speaker 3: Quite a shiny boy, a lot of you. they're still younger than El Nene or older than El Nene. I quite remember he's a.
Speaker 1: El Nene 31, how you start burning the same age as El Nene.
Speaker 3: But, like a lot of that team's already aged and then so you've got to replace or upgrade or either add depth to that as well. So I think that's from the other way around. Like you said, Jamal Arsels is kicking in this squad. Yeah, you mean.
Speaker 1: He must be older than El Nene.
Speaker 2: He's in the pole dummy. So just like pole dummy, jamal Arsels, and probably a few others you can name me that are all just hiding in our room.
Speaker 3: Matt Richard.
Speaker 2: Ryan Fraser.
Speaker 3: My long stuff.
Speaker 2: Just that, and a bit of Janet in his uniforms.
Speaker 1: Ryan Fraser just walks everywhere behind Dan Burn.
Speaker 2: No, Ryan Fraser is Bode's brass, that you know. He's still there And he should be on the pitch first name in the team sheet whereas the likes of Claude Bummet and Jamal Arsels like. What the fuck can you play that like?
Speaker 1: I think Claude Bummet's hiding. I think he's just been incredibly nice and incredibly useful all the time He's tidying up the plates at dinner and Just hiding in plain sight like a transformer.
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, just, he's always there.
Speaker 1: If it was a film, there'd be a pair of hands the whole way through. So, like when somebody's doing bench press, a pair of hands pull it away and when somebody's like leaving the gym, you see a pair of hands mopping up behind them and a wee pair of hands taking the plates away, and that's Paul Dummit.
Speaker 2: It's just a pair of hands that you never notice, just an extra, and I don't think, like anyhow, none of the staff, the upper echelons of Newcastle United, have bothered to ask who the fuck is this guy? He's always there.
Speaker 1: I hope he got like a seven year contract just before.
Speaker 2: That was Steve Boos' part in the deal, paul Dummit signed a new contract with him earlier.
Speaker 3: Yeah recently. I don't know Under how.
Speaker 2: Yeah, Paul Dummit.
Speaker 1: That pair of hands just slipped a contract in front of how, when he wasn't paying attention.
Speaker 2: He's also 31.
Speaker 3: Matt Target as well. like he's seen for 15 million He doesn't get a game, so like On.
Speaker 2: May 27, the fifth of May 2022, so pretty much a year ago, he signed a contract with a new one year extension, so he's probably got at least another year to go. That's incredible.
Speaker 1: Absolutely, genuinely incredible that he has another year to go, but I wish, i do wish he had five. That would be nice.
Speaker 2: And then he could just pull it away. I was 31.
Speaker 1: I don't know what it must be, because he was in the under 18s team.
Speaker 3: He won the League Cup with Samir on the Real.
Speaker 2: Paul Dummit.
Speaker 3: Yeah, he was in that team.
Speaker 2: He's probably got a bigger trophy hold than pretty much most of the Maybe. that's why he's kept him around because he's a winner. He goes with his winnard medal. We need winners in this team. Show them your medal. He's pulling up more medals like actual major trophies not like championships and fucking league one titles than Eddie Howe has at this point. We need winners.
Speaker 3: He's subbed our contract this season, though.
Speaker 2: Unless there's a late surge. No, is he playing in the games? I was hoping for a catastrophic injury crisis. That most has Paul Dummit in the start and line up in the champion league.
Speaker 1: I've just googled Paul Dummit and there's a man that's appeared and I've never seen this man before in my life. I've never, ever seen that face in my life.
Speaker 2: Paul Dummit's just a name. Anybody can be Paul Dummit, like in Like in Tizer Scosy Yeah in Death Race. What's the name? Frankenstein? Just a mask, Just a name. Anybody can be Paul Dummit.
Speaker 3: The one game Paul Dummit played was a set of half right. James Chanmear in the EFL club. This was the team though Carl Darling goes Emile Kraft right back, jamal Lacelle's captain, matt Target left back Longstaff I'm not sure which one it is Mighty Longstaff. Joe Willick, elliot Anderson, matty.
Speaker 1: Longstaff. Matty Longstaff played for Newcastle this season EFL club came against Matty Longstaff.
Speaker 3: Matty Longstaff played for Newcastle this season, the first boys club. Oh, the bench, even the Benches medal.
Speaker 2: That's in an alternative universe in the South. it didn't take over. That's the start of the lineup In the championship where they didn't survive.
Speaker 1: Paul Dummit doesn't just have a lead cut winners medal. He set up Stephen Thompson for St Merlin's second goal. He's got a assist in a cup final.
Speaker 2: He was playing for St Merlin 30 league appearances.
Speaker 1: Two goals not bad.
Speaker 2: I'm telling you just in the changing room there's probably not a winner medal to share amongst that whole entire dressing room, because there's never one, fuck all really. And they all just Paul, tell us the story of the cup final. Well, as I was round in the wing, i see Stephen Thompson in the distance. They just clap their hands brilliant ball, both head and goal Winners medal. Thank you very much. They just regales them with cup final stories.
Speaker 1: Oh, fucking hell, I can't. Jamal Le Selz is the club captain of Newcastle. The official on paper club captain.
Speaker 3: Right, right, That was pretty. yeah, That was pretty. how was it?
Speaker 1: I mean, He's had a summer, like it's not like he came in and You don't want to mate.
Speaker 2: Come on now, come on now, what's he doing there?
Speaker 1: You can have a captain, that doesn't play.
Speaker 3: No, he needs to manage the dressing room, like keep it tidy, i mean like that. He needs a job in the place there, what's he? gonna do with the coats? Is he gonna be in?
Speaker 1: 31? Louis Dunke's 31 as well. A weird fucking age that everybody in the Premier League they're all El Nene. It's like El Nene is absorbing them and turning them all into El Nene. Oh, fuck it, El. Just looking through all the club captains and they all play all the time, except for Jamal Le Selz and maybe Joe Warrell, but I think he's just injured, doesn't he? Not in shape? but I digress.
Speaker 3: Oh no, harry Maguire. Harry Maguire's club captain I think he's fucking fish Right.
Speaker 1: I think we've got quite a lot of content out of Newcastle and former Newcastle.
Speaker 2: The ball dumb at show.
Speaker 1: The ball dumb at show? Did we get to the bottom of whether it was a good achievement or not?
Speaker 2: Did we even answer that Yeah, we did. We did quite a fair while ago now. Yes, they've done really well. But we're worried about next year Yeah next year could be much more of a challenge.
Speaker 1: Yeah, to be fair, champions League nights at St James's Park will be cool for the telly, Paul Dumb at all enjoying the one they telly as well. Moving on to the rest of the battles for Europe, brighton laid out a thrilling one draw against Manchester City on Wednesday night And CISO.
Speaker 2: A strike to get you up off your seats.
Speaker 1: Gordio and CISO have never scored a goal at the.
Speaker 2: MX Stadium before. After that, he probably doesn't need to score another one.
Speaker 1: Suspect is our people probably disagree with that from one of his strikers, but he's got a very good goal. It seems to be a weird goal. I'm fairly sure he misses it, but it seems to just about catch enough of the ball that it wiggles into the far right hand corner, because it's not like he's perved it or anything, he's just whacked it. Great finish, though Brighton draw 1-1 guarantees them European football next season, which is fantastic. We asked Mike, we asked the question last week if they'd been in Europe before. It's been confirmed on every outlet under the sun that this is their first trip into Europe, and if you're a Brighton fan, you'll be absolutely over the moon. This is a phenomenal. Well, it's literally the best period in their entire history And fans now are getting to live that Like. Could you imagine living the best years of your team's entire history? That would be incredible. I'm never going to do that. Aberdeen are not going to win a European Cup of my lifetime.
Speaker 3: No, i think, as them friendly fans, we're going to win Scottish Cups and European Tours any time soon. Yeah, they're very much the birth of the English football leagues. The way that they are going about their best period of time And I think the way they've got about it like they've got a plan, they execute it. They lose their manager, they lose their director of football and they lose Chief Scout as well, and they don't bat an eyelid. They go again because they've got a succession plan And arguably, they improve aesthetically wise.
Speaker 3: Well, i think we talked about last week that they're not quite part of leaving in a great situation. In fact, they were top four, but I guess it was so well in the campaign as well that the sustain that was perhaps not the case. But I think what they've done tremendously well is even the most of us play the Cuckirella as well. They've recruited well And I think, even if you're just a neutral, it's a joy to see a new team competing for European football, rather than the same old faces, and the fact that they've done it on something that seems realistic for a lot of clubs to try and achieve. You need the right people in charge and you need the right minds. But that's just smart recruitment. I mean, that's not throwing money at the problem like a Chelsea did. It's thinking we'll just buy the whole Brighton model and then we'll just implant it here and then it'll work. It's a bit more complex than that, but yeah, it's a good time, i think, to be a Brighton fan. Of course, the Zarbis doing wonders.
Speaker 1: And, by all accounts, tony Bloom is the reason why Chelsea can't buy the Brighton model, because it's its own, Tony Bloom's head. It's not really all that much to do with the people. Well, it is obviously to do with the right people in the right places, but the reason there's the right people in the right places doing the right things is because of Tony Bloom and the people around him.
Speaker 3: Interesting talk to that. Could you buy a club chairman and then just say well, he's our club chairman now. So could you like say we'll sign Tony Bloom from Brighton and we'll give you Todd Bowley instead?
Speaker 1: with that.
Speaker 3: Who executes that, i don't know. Maybe one for the offices in Pond. Maybe can we trade chairman now and see if that works, because football seems to be getting that sort of daft. But yeah, i suppose one to Pond.
Speaker 1: Well, if Tony Bloom wants to invest his cash in Chelsea. I'm not going to say no, that's for sure. But and he appeared on Sky Sports yesterday and looks remarkably like friend of the show, keith Ward. very similar demeanor about themselves. But yeah, he was on the, he was on Sky Sports yesterday, weird bloke. But I guess somebody that's made his entire career of gambling on football using incredibly intricate statistics and probably was going to be a weird bloke. But interesting to see a chairman go on and do a little interview. and yeah, deservey was on there as well And they very much want to kick on next season.
Speaker 1: But Sheila, they've probably got the same problem. Newcastle have not to be negative, but the same problem Newcastle have in the sense that they're not a squad that are used to playing twice a week, every week. We've sort of seen how that's affected them in the last couple of months. but they sort of fell out of the top four shot And they don't necessarily have the strength and depth that some of the others around them have And they obviously want to avoid and almost certainly will avoid doing a Burnley when they finish seventh and then sort of fell away very, very quickly. But they will need to recruit will in the summer, to be able to sort of maintain this level.
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, if there's anybody that's going to be able to do it, it will be Brighton, and you know you are expecting to lose a couple of their bigger players probably Macalester and Casado will be will be snapped up by somebody probably Chelsea for an extortionate amount of money.
Speaker 2: And I could say, though, for sure Macalester, probably Liverpool, but Brighton being Brighton, i do expect them to, you know, be sensible and distribute that money enough around the team, and that's just just to go to show, like such a great season that they've had, that this, even in Seasville, has kind of come out in all way. Our Matoma was another one where where, the where did these guys come from? in all of a sudden? they'll probably be the lunch pins next season, even Gilmore.
Speaker 1: Yeah, he's come back into his last sentence.
Speaker 2: He's come back into the side and done really well.
Speaker 3: So the Zerbe was interesting. He said I've made mistakes with Gilmore this season, which was interesting for him to say, but I think it was the first start he had, maybe not under the Zerbe, it was one of the first starts. He was absolutely electric. So it's good that maybe not everybody's actually frozen out the squad either. That Zerbe's a manager, they will give you a chance.
Speaker 2: Yeah, i mean again we say it is pundits there. Certainly not that. But you know we don't, we don't see really what happens in training the end day out. So you know, maybe Gilmore's and the shot sides it would be good to see, not only from a from a Scotland perspective but like kind of his careers taking a hit with the much maligned spell at Norwich, then bought by Potter, and Potter immediately leaves. So it would have been, you know, kind of difficult time for Gilmore to find out where he's very sort of fits in. So it's good to see him settled back into a good football inside. So it's probably just needs probably.
Speaker 1: Just it's how long Tony Bloom's secret potion takes to kick in, because that must be what's going on at Brighton, because also everybody leaves Brighton turns out to be Pish. Kukere is Pish.
Speaker 2: Pish, pish, pish Pish.
Speaker 1: Pish.
Speaker 2: I don't know.
Speaker 1: They're all just getting in check.
Speaker 2: Kukere or Pishum are really to be honest.
Speaker 1: No, it's Tony Bloom not feeding them secret sauce anymore.
Speaker 2: So I mean, i get it like it is a case of, you know, big fishes and wee ponds then become wee fishes and big ponds With regards to the players you've just mentioned. but yeah. I actually fancy Brighton to be closer to their objectives next season, whatever they may be. Then I'd be Newcastle. I'd be perfectly honest with you. Interesting If you gave me. I know that Newcastle have finished obviously higher in the league, but I think if you gave me both teams as they sit now, i would probably take Brighton to be honest.
Speaker 3: They've got to achieve their metrics as well. I think Leicester and Leeds off the top of my head, but Brighton's the third team expected points. They've underachieved. So we're going back to the O2, grainpotter, brighton to the extent as well.
Speaker 1: Well, they've had a couple of mental games, haven't they That game against Tottenham where they could have won, you know, 15-0, and they got beat 2-1 somehow.
Speaker 3: Even at the O2, it's never.
Speaker 2: Yeah, so they do. With the Zerbi style of football these results are going to happen. Never around again where they just get smashed. It's not really like to say the score line flatters to deceive, but it doesn't. When they try and out score teams, it just doesn't work. They just get pummeled themselves. But I think even Guardiola speaks very highly of the Zerbi.
Speaker 1: Which is usually a terrible sound. Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2: But it's not scooped. It's obviously great praise. So yeah, as I say, i'd rather be in Brighton's position right now than the Newcastle. I think it's just the abundance of wealth that sort of makes things a bit rosier up in Newcastle than Brighton. But as a team, as they stand, i'd take Brighton's every day of the week.
Speaker 1: Manga Knight had also confirmed Champions League football with a 4-1 victory against Chelsea tonight. How do we rate Manga Knight's season? I feel weirdly negative about their season. I know that's probably. Maybe there's a tint of just feeling negative about everything to do with Manga.
Speaker 2: Knight. I think the trophy European football secured. They might have another trophy to add to that come season's end.
Speaker 1: I think what it is. They've had a good season, irrespective of the FA Cup final. They won the FA Cup. They've had a brilliant season and not convinced. Ten Hag is as good as being made out probably mainly from Manga Knight fans or has done as good a job as is being made out.
Speaker 1: He's spent an awful, awful lot of money on a couple of guys who have generally not worked. They don't really have a style. I don't enjoy watching them in the way that you do Brighton, brentford City, even Newcastle. I don't not enjoy Newcastle games. To be honest, they tend to be a bit of fun. I wouldn't say I like Manga Knight's style of play or even hugely know what it is. That might be injuries, it might be personnel, maybe another close season getting a few more boys that he wants from Ajax and Feyenoord and then suddenly it'll be slightly better. I wonder if there's an element of we're saying Newcastle have landed fortunate in the way that other teams have had down seasons. I wonder if Manga Knight in a way, are the same that they've benefited heavily from their not being strong Liverpool.
Speaker 2: Spurs and Chelsea. They definitely have considered. There's not much of a gap between Liverpool and United really. I mean a couple of two or three wins instead of draws or losses for Liverpool. All of a sudden, manga Knight, they're not in the top four anymore, as you say, considering the amount of money they've spent, which would have been a disaster really. I think for Manga Knight it was just after the back of the last season and Solshire and Rania and then gone out of the season. You had the Ronaldo thing, which I think Ten Hag has dealt with superbly well, which I think he deserves a lot of credit for, because I wouldn't have fancied Oli or that, or even going a wee bit further back like Mourinho, to handle that situation as well as Ten Hag does. So he has managed the drama a lot better than its predecessors have, and you do fancy it again. I'll be a lot about just as much weebs as opposed to who comes in. Phil Jones is finally away. You fancy McGuire has been given another chance.
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's not going to go.
Speaker 1: Southgate's pretty much giving them an ultimatum. now, this is your last squad.
Speaker 3: Whatever, whatever, southgate You're still going to be there. You're still going to be there.
Speaker 2: You're still going to be there, you're still going to be there, but, like in terms of, i think his contract is probably massive as well. So who's going to be wanting to stump up that kind of cash?
Speaker 1: Yeah, and it might have been Leicester, but not if they're in the championship.
Speaker 3: To be fair, maybe Newcastle, definitely not Maybe.
Speaker 2: Newcastle Really.
Speaker 3: Maybe Newcastle's team, but Jamal himself, is That's true?
Speaker 2: but I don't think even there know that.
Speaker 1: I mean I've not done anything.
Speaker 2: that And to be fair.
Speaker 1: they'll have a list of 42.
Speaker 2: 42 people, yeah so I don't think McGuire would be that close to number one, because he's kind of been shown up for not being at that kind of top four level, especially the way that Ten Hag goes on to play. so it will be a case of who goes, who leaves, as opposed to who comes in. But I'm a big fan of them.
Speaker 2: They said you could tell everyone who their transfer targets are, because that always works well, you know when you tell the likes of Daniel Levy and, but only just love signing people that everybody else wants, yeah So that's a trap, But again that that particularly late We're going to sign this player, that player and that player's smacks of post post-ferry man United, where there's all a saga that runs on all summer and they don't sign these players until next summer, Which you know we'll see.
Speaker 1: Yeah, they do have improvements to make And I think there's something to be said for the. A lot of the players that have dragged them to this position haven't been the necessarily being the Ten Hag signings either. Anthony hasn't worked. I don't think Anthony ever will work. I think he's sort of the edge at best And that'll be it. But you know Sancho wasn't his, you know they were after Sancho for a long time, but also hasn't had a great season anyway. Martial was already there, fernandez was already there, erickson was already coming in, shaw was there, lindelof was there, varan was there, wambasaka, the hair, you know it's. I don't know if there's much of his.
Speaker 2: No, they cast the game. Casemiro and Martin is Martin is would be the two that you like have actually influenced it in a positive way, because both of their introduction have got the best out of Fernandez and Varan Shaw those types of players of Rashford you could probably throw in there as well, to and that and like, as far as assigning is concerned, erickson as well, because it provided a much better balance to the team. and again, you forget that Pogba left in the summer as well. Is that right? No, last summer, surely Last summer.
Speaker 2: No no, no, was it I honestly can't remember.
Speaker 1: I'm sure Pogba was there last year.
Speaker 3: No, it was this summer, because he's been injured last season, isn't it?
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been injured last two minutes when he was injured again. So yeah, this is really just bragging the witchcraft, that's right, but yeah, so they have managed to sort of shed some of the players that were there, so we would be hoping to just carry that on and get rid of some jobbers and get some quality, and that's what it's like And they'll not worry about the extra games.
Speaker 1: they had the games this year.
Speaker 3: Yeah, they played in so much, They played every game eh.
Speaker 2: Yeah, they played in so many competitions they'll be pretty used to it. But you're just hoping that the signings they make are a bit above, like very, very coarse, just into basically a lot of jersey-type signings.
Speaker 1: They need a striker as much almost as Chelsea do.
Speaker 3: The other thing is like I think David Hale won the Golden Glove, didn't he? for most clean sheets. Yeah, nice play, but the defence has been brutal at times as well, like dumped off Liverpool 7th, was it not?
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3: Man's City 6th. Was it 6-3?
Speaker 2: 6-3.
Speaker 3: Brentford 4th towards the start of the season, of course as well.
Speaker 2: That's when Hadi Maguire was still playing everything, yeah, yeah And a lot of funnily enough, a lot of the times the Hayes coming for criticism is when Hadi Maguire has also been playing. But that's kind of maybe 10-hag stubbornness, like trying to play it for the back when you've got a goalkeeper who's not exactly renowned for his passing and a centre-back who's, you know cannot do that Like is good for heading the ball away and that's it.
Speaker 3: I think the other thing is just like. I think 10-hag does need credit because, like you said, they inherited the shit shown for numerous years and these ironed out a lot of the same players as we've just discussed there and still going into the top four. I think Liverpool should have been the team in the top four at their expense, but they go. That's this league season. That might not have just done enough, obviously, just squeaked out enough clean sheets. Maybe if Trent went to centre-midth more recently than they had done, then Liverpool could have put a pip down. But there you go, there you go.
Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. indeed, The only positions left to play for really other than the relegation are Villa, spurs and Brentford.
Speaker 2: And we just call some over the Chelsea eye. Yeah, we don't need to do them.
Speaker 1: Well, i said we would do all the teams that are in that weird middle bit next week, and that's exactly where Chelsea are.
Speaker 2: So we can do weird middle bit Chelsea next week.
Speaker 1: I really, really don't have the bandwidth to discuss Chelsea, really, villa, spurs, brentford all fighting it out for that final conference place. I am fairly confident Spurs are chucking it, absolutely chucking it. They're like we don't want a piece of the Europa League or the Conference League. Please give us midweeks off.
Speaker 3: This is the last eight weeks. Give you that impression, Jamie.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, pretty much mate. How have they done? loss-loss, win, loss-draw, loss-loss, yeah, so, Could be hurricane last game.
Speaker 2: Do you think we want to go out on a loss?
Speaker 1: Yes, I don't think he. I think he really wants to go out on a win.
Speaker 2: He's giving up. I don't care, Just get me out of here.
Speaker 3: Where do we? He's going to score 30 goals and Nugda gives a single fucking.
Speaker 1: That's mental. He's going to have his best ever Premier League season and it's not on anybody's radar. It's on our radar because we're at the top.
Speaker 2: It's very hurricane, it's part of the Europa hurricane. That is well really well, but ultimately counts for a fuck all.
Speaker 1: Fuck all yeah, because you're team or pitch and Erling Hall are on to you now, so nobody cares about you anymore.
Speaker 2: And you might hold the record. I don't want to play with you anymore. I'm gonna cut in the bin with the rest of the toys.
Speaker 1: Where do you think he goes? Do you think he goes to United?
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, i don't think he's keen on.
Speaker 2: Do you know the best place, that the best place that Hurricane could go would be Bayern Munich. Yeah, he's probably definitely going to win at least one trophy before he retires. I think if he goes to United he still might win nothing.
Speaker 3: No, Bayern Munich are fucking this league for themselves as well.
Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, but you fancy this is just a one-off and then next year they'll be able to And champions At least two years. Yeah, so they're gonna regularly qualify the Champions League. If I were Hurricane, I would not be moving to Man United to increase my trophy hall, as it were. I'd be going to.
Speaker 1: He's too, i think. He's obsessed with records, i think.
Speaker 3: I saw you fucking got you. You got games over there.
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's so adjuvant, i just think he No, no, I don't know.
Speaker 1: I wouldn't be at all. I'd be interested in trophies and success at winning She-Lands. I kind of play and I'd be Trophy's not interesting winning.
Speaker 2: Harry Kane is not interested in winning.
Speaker 1: Harry Kane doesn't give a fuck about trophies or success at winning. He gives a fuck about beating Alan Shearer.
Speaker 2: No, i mean having said that, like, obviously he did try to engineer a move not too long ago, yeah, and he got another couple of years added on to his things for his troubles Crazy, i think that he was on the golf course with Gary Nebelstein.
Speaker 1: I'm gonna play for Man City and Kevin De Bruyne's gonna put crosses into me. I'll score 35 goals and they didn't know how long they are doing exactly. That must be sickening for Kane to watch the goals. He's banging in thinking that should be me. He would have been perfect for a Man City team, Absolutely perfect, but Oh well. Cool Harry You could go to Chelsea Pog It was the win thing.
Speaker 2: Talk about the frying pan and the fire, fucking hell.
Speaker 1: No, Chelsea will be a different animal next year. Chelsea will be right back in the Chelsea scene.
Speaker 3: Probably worse. Probably worse Worse.
Speaker 2: Worse.
Speaker 3: They're 12, they kind of get much worse.
Speaker 2: You're right, they probably will be worse, maybe 11. But No. There's just such a re-build to be done there. It's not a re-build at all. they just need a manager. No, not a re-build, That's no re-build. Basically they've got a house with too many rooms.
Speaker 1: They've got a five bedroom house. They need a three bedroom house. All they need to do is close off two of the rooms and just work in the three bedroom house, and it'll be delightful. There'll be apps.
Speaker 3: There's.
Speaker 2: Mujric. Well, there's so many players there.
Speaker 1: Mujric. No, Mujric is a perfect POTCH player. Potch is gonna have him. Do you know that or do you hope that? I know, I know, Mike.
Speaker 2: Who do they get up front as a striker? I don't know what you're discussing, chelsea. Thanks, mate. Yeah, we are Sorry. back to Magnet.
Speaker 1: No Spurs, we're talking Spurs. Spurs are shite, spurs are tatties. Villa we'll do Villa and Brentford next week as well. We'll do a proper team by team run through next week.
Speaker 3: We'll know next week where Villa, if they hold on to their Europe.
Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, and it'd be more appropriate to talk about them when we do know that and we can give each team a rating and we can do the thing I'm excited for, which is our two early predictions again, because they seem to be the ones that I do all right at, rather than the predictions we did at the start of the season, when I said Chelsea would finish above Liverpool. I did say Liverpool wouldn't qualify for the Champions League, but I did say that Chelsea would finish second. And they've, miraculously, they have got a two in the position they finished. They've got a one before it. Yeah, i think that'll Anything else, anything else. Burning you boys.
Speaker 2: I can't believe we've got through an entire podcast and not mentioned the fact that Aberdeen called I've got European football. No, I didn't sort of say I said at the intro.
Speaker 1: But I, like I said at the intro because I got the impression from Mike's intro that he just really didn't want me to talk about it.
Speaker 3: I was sick of Aberdeen, i was sick of Aberdeen And I hope that Callitha will win the Scottish Cup, which I'm sure you'll have to play, club Bruce.
Speaker 2: You have to play Club Bruce.
Speaker 1: Ronnie Dailers, Club Bruce.
Speaker 2: No, i can't wait for them to qualify for Europe and get drawn against Brighton and they get to go like, instead of a European tour, oh like, yeah, the year that we got Burnley And we were The year we got Burnley in our But at least you know you're sort of definitely guaranteed well again providing in Burnett's non-duly unthinkable, but it would be the first time that they have. But we should guarantee that the group No Super.
Speaker 1: Calais are not going ballistic.
Speaker 2: By the way, i say, well, right, if you don't want to talk about Aberdeen, mike doesn't want to talk about it, because we talk about the United.
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, i want to talk about Aberdeen because I didn't want to point out the. So somebody's done some work on our potential playoff opponents for the Europa League. It's only assumption that Celtic do in the Scottish Cup and Aberdeen Aberdeen, by the way. how have we finished third? That's actually mental.
Speaker 3: The league's shite. It's like last season when Dundee Night Fish fought. Everybody thought they were good when they actually did that, And it's like if every team's shite, sometimes you get lucky.
Speaker 1: There was that amazing interview with the Hearts chairman before Christmas as well, where he said it's really boring at the start of the season going into it knowing that you're going to finish third. We need some competition from other teams in the league to make it a challenge.
Speaker 3: It's just going to be a nice.
Speaker 2: I definitely don't say shite like that, because they could finish fifth if they lose on third.
Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, and they've only finished above Aberdeen once in the last 11 seasons.
Speaker 1: Once They relegated twice And relegated twice. Yeah, and that was last season. It was the only time they finished above us since 2012. And they've been relegated twice in that time, so that was a fucking stupid thing for them to say generally. But, yeah, and the fact that Hibbs could finish above them, which would be hilarious hilarious back, i believe Lee Johnson could finish fourth and get a team in the unit. That is mind-blowing. How that man is still in a job is mental. He might be slightly successful. The only benefit about Hibbs finishing fourth with Lee Johnson so it means Lee Johnson will be there next year. So at least they know Aberdeen will finish above Hibbs, irrespective of what else happens in the league. But some potential playoff opponents Slavia Prague, paok, stavet from Switzerland, astana McAfee, haifa Zalgiris, vilnius, helsinki and Flora Tallinn Very few holiday destinations in that list, you'd won the Prague though.
Speaker 3: Eh Yeah, prague, yeah, you'd won the Lester A&T. If you all go through, let's win the football spatch And all the money, all the money, all the.
Speaker 2: Listers in Lithuania. I'll just.
Speaker 3: That would have been too much for me.
Speaker 2: That would have been too much for me.
Speaker 3: It would have been too much in basketball, but since the money came out of Lithuania with Romanov and stuff, the league's been ties. I think they've ranked closer to San Marino as a nation than the artists of Scotland these days.
Speaker 1: So you'd won, so there's a high chance Zalgiris Vilnius might not even get that far. I think this is based on them beating somebody in the ring.
Speaker 3: Duprella signed a Lithuanian boy at centre half and he was alright, but this was in the championship, So this boy only had three caps for Lithuania.
Speaker 2: What was his?
Speaker 3: name Vitus.
Speaker 2: Gasputis Vitus. Of course, it was Vitus Gasputis.
Speaker 3: He looked electric in the Lithuanian leagues, which is all you need to know. It wasn't electric here?
Speaker 2: Definitely not.
Speaker 1: He's not a Europa League player, maybe a club on the left. If Aberdeen could win a Europa League playoff, that would be absolutely huge, Because then well, the money is obviously massive And I'll pretty much double what it is in the conference. But better chance of getting a good away day, Because I am definitely going to go to one or two of the away days and I can avoid.
Speaker 1: Not because there's anything wrong with these countries, just to the really far away And I can avoid having to go to Azerbaijan, kazakhstan and Israel. That would be good. When we played Kaida Almaty, i'm fairly sure Almaty is further away than Mumbai, which is absolutely mental. For a Europa League game, you have to go further away than India and further away than bits of China Right literally the other side of the world, like four and a half thousand miles away. So yeah, if I could avoid that, that would be good. And the hearts got to go to Florence, so surely they'll chuck somewhere, good.
Speaker 3: It was a Florence, istanbul, and That's my skatesman.
Speaker 2: Actually They were called like It was a Belarus or something. No no, no, fucking hell it was not Belarus.
Speaker 3: It was no Riga.
Speaker 1: No, it wasn't Riga. No, it wasn't Riga.
Speaker 3: I thought it was a Latvian team that they got.
Speaker 2: Yeah, it was No, you're right, yes it was Latvia. The blue badge and they were called like Definitely definitely yeah, like RK or something like that.
Speaker 1: No, it was definitely Latvia.
Speaker 3: It was probably the Riga, but Amrika Dalgava.
Speaker 1: Riga is the Riga team. Surely there's not more than one Riga team. Erm, there could be more than one Riga team. There's fucking four.
Speaker 3: There's four Edinburgh teams in SPFL now Of course there's gonna be one for Oh, i saw there is because Spartans has met four Edinburgh teams.
Speaker 1: There's like half a million people in Edinburgh. That is wild.
Speaker 3: How does it feel about having the Derek McKenna's part two in the dugout, though, like that's gonna be for my Barry Robson? Oh, barry Robson's crew on Derek's part two. I love it, i love Derek.
Speaker 1: Derek was great, now we've got Derek part two. You wanted Derek out Barry Robson's better looking than Derek.
Speaker 2: That was a pretty good one, rfs, they are Latvian.
Speaker 1: And they are from Riga. They are from Riga. Well, there you go, Riga football soccer. I'm sure that's what it stands for. It took over Skonto Riga after they went bust.
Speaker 3: Fair enough, i wouldn't make it.
Speaker 2: Should we go through?
Speaker 3: teams from 10 years ago from Riga, yeah.
Speaker 2: Very niche and podcast When Aberdeen played at Almaty.
Speaker 1: They did have Anatoly Timoshoek at the time, Which was interesting. And then they had this Kazakh boy that I'd never heard of and I've never heard of him again since, who is probably the best player I've seen at Bitodry. He was absolutely incredible, skonto World in both games as well Phenomenal player. He had like 50 caps for Kazakhstan or something. Yeah, just goes to show the world The footballing world is a big bad place, but fortunately Aberdeen have got Big Bad Barry Robson, which will drive them to sixth. I can see us winning the Europa League.
Speaker 3: Honestly, the way we're playing at the moment.
Speaker 2: That's definitely a clean The way we're playing at the moment. I think it's a good idea to be on Aberdeen or something like that.
Speaker 1: What happens?
Speaker 2: didn't it. That's my point.
Speaker 1: In the last two games against Rangers we did knock them out on aggregate and they got to the Europa League final last year. That means we're better than Europa League finalists, which surely means we're Europa League winners.
Speaker 3: No, because Darvel beat you.
Speaker 1: And then Darvel got beat by the team that we're bottom. We're the winners. I think we can not embarrass ourselves, though. Which would be nice Get some good European nights at Pottadry and get me a nice away trip, or one of the Berlin teams going to be in the Europa League.
Speaker 3: Ooneon, no, not the.
Speaker 1: Champions League Wouldn't have minded a wee trip to Berlin.
Speaker 2: What about 1864? Maybe if you make it through the group stage. Oh, I took it.
Speaker 1: Get them in the knockout when they come down to the Champions League. And then when we win the Europa League and we're in the Champions League next year, then we can get all sorts of exciting teams. We can go to Villarreal.
Speaker 2: Literally the exciting teams in the first one you picked.
Speaker 3: It's Villarreal. It's the size of Stumpfarmers.
Speaker 2: It's the size of Stumpfarmers. Jamie wants to go to Sparish Stumpfarmers.
Speaker 1: Sparish Stumpfarmers. This is actually what I want. I want to feel like I'm at home. I think we're really done. I think we're super done. Well, I know it's a late one but you don't want to talk about.
Speaker 2: Should we win? Should we win?
Speaker 1: We should talk about D&I going down down, Although they're not actually down down technically yet. Are they?
Speaker 2: Yeah, they are They need to win and an 8-goal swing in their favour, because they're got 8-goals behind.
Speaker 3: Yeah, they need to be at Oscar A4 now, then Are they playing in Ross County?
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, kelly are playing in Ross County.
Speaker 3: Are they Sorry? Yeah, so I'm trying to wait.
Speaker 2: They need to go to Motherwell. Motherwell could be else.
Speaker 1: So they could beat Motherwell 9-0 and Ross County lose 1-0 and it'll be close to them.
Speaker 3: I think so Kevin Van Veen's got a score again.
Speaker 1: There's chat of Aberdeen signing Kevin Van Veen which would be nice, because he always scores against us. So that would be At least stop them doing that. And we've just signed Nicky Devlin from Lovingsland.
Speaker 3: Yeah, he's actually. That's a good sign.
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a good sign, because we need a right back, because Jaden Richardson is not a footballer and they've a mind of a right back. Van Veen's been there, you always do this with the like you sign like. Yeah, other teams best players.
Speaker 2: No, Motherwell's best players.
Speaker 1: Celtic.
Speaker 2: Rangers don't want Stevie May, right and all over it.
Speaker 1: Yeah, we signed Stevie May. We signed Paul Quinn from Ross County when he was captain.
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, he's down.
Speaker 1: Yeah, Graham Shini when he was captain. Johnny Hayes when he was in Vanessa's best player.
Speaker 3: Curtis, may Curtis.
Speaker 1: May. That went fucking terribly. Oh, there's loads. There's so many that we've Adam Rooney when Callie really wanted him back after he was good at Callie and went down seven for six months And we nipped in and took him instead. Mark Reynolds when he was You're no worse than the old firm. No, no, we're nowhere near as bad as the old firm At least they play.
Speaker 1: The issue with the old firm was for a long time they were doing it, and then the boys weren't even playing, which was I see Scott Wright's away Interesting to see where he goes. Greg, friend of the show, was convinced he wouldn't be able to sign for Ross County when he left Aberdeen, so he's done well to get a few seasons of Rangers under his belt. You've got Blake Fylas, scott Wright, yeah, yeah, get fuck off of that, though, let's be honest. So yeah, he might go to the championship As an English championship, But I'd be stunned if he ended up at Dumfirmland. But you never know, i suppose.
Speaker 3: He almost did once when he was at Dundee who almost won them by Ben Tear United There you go Scott. Wright, yeah, he was at Dundee. No, sorry. Sorry, he got won to.
Speaker 1: Dundee. Oh, won to Dundee. He said he was one of ours, but yeah, dundee United fallen a long way since there. What was it? A 1-0 win against the Yeah, and then they released a shirt and a print and a famous day, only to get pump 7-0 in the away leg. And it's all going downhill. How many managers have they had Three, three Fox? one of them, yeah.
Speaker 3: There's now a coach at Aberdeen.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he's the youth coach. Yeah, he was a good one.
Speaker 2: Sort of shamed him, if you like, and his apology to the fans, where he also Oh sorry, it was me, jack Ross and William Fox. You know we all take our sort of part in this. Jack Ross was sacked after seven games. So, we're still on our 31 to go to try and turn it around, even though they were bottom at that time.
Speaker 3: But Jack Ross was there.
Speaker 2: Some front for your man there to blame other managers that had long since left And you came in with more than enough time to fix it as well.
Speaker 3: He won three games in a row recently and he's lost every game since the split. That's what's fucked him.
Speaker 1: But it's just.
Speaker 3: But it's a purely balanced side. There is good players there, but it's just so purely balanced. The goalkeeper horrific, all right that's all. A boy put a thread up on Twitter at the goalie, like all the shockers he's had since he Anyone from the last year or so Goalkeeper of the year back to back seasons Which shows you like players in our area, like I, don't give a fuck about that league, it must be Pish If that's the best goalkeeper by the fucking.
Speaker 2: Holy shit.
Speaker 3: That's nice, jason.
Speaker 2: when Jason comes and goes to go he's a season out there for the first time. Yeah, the goalies must have hoops for hands or something?
Speaker 1: Was it this weekend when he ran out to the edge of the box?
Speaker 3: No, that was the young goalkeeper. He did the fucking game. Jack Newman, who was on the Peterhead He's already got PTSD from that fucking season. Yeah, he's fucking hell, Fair boy.
Speaker 1: How are their chances next season, Mike, if they go down?
Speaker 3: Well, when they go down, It depends how they do it. It was done in the night of fuck this last time. They spent four seasons trying to get out of it. It'll be interesting at the top. It depends if Partick Thistle and the playoff score up in Religate's Seyros County Uncle Roy will have a better throw. If Valkyries stays, you'd probably favour them to come back up straight away, as they've done in the past. It depends on Mark Orgrindon. He's already spent millions on this team, spent millions again, so it'll be interesting.
Speaker 1: And you've got Queen's.
Speaker 3: Park Still on the league as well. Yeah, i'm not as optimistic as some about them, but I put Duff Rellinoff obviously came back. You'd expect them to finish in the top half in Vanessa, maybe if they look good and keep the remainder of the squad. So it just depends who's their competition Is that like? I wouldn't think Duff Rellin would be challenging for the title, but I think they'd be challenging for a top four sport. It'll be interesting.
Speaker 1: I really want the bars to come up. Aberdeen haven't played the bars for so long 2012.
Speaker 2: 2012? We had not. We had not left long and had left high school last time. Was that the 3-3 here?
Speaker 3: No, i thought it was the league cup game with George McInnes or something scored in the last minute After the game dominated a good majority of the match.
Speaker 2: I think it was. Craig Brum is still in the match. No, you're right, because we played the next season. We started off the championship. we campaigned really well. This was before the financial hit the fan. We played in a cup game, played really well but still lost.
Speaker 1: That 3-3 game was mental. You were 3-1 up. And then what was his name? I wanted to say Yeri Mina, but it wasn't Yeri Mina. It was a I can't mind his name.
Speaker 3: Scott Vernon Josh.
Speaker 1: Parker. That wasn't Josh Parker. He was a good few years later. No, it was a defender. It was a centre back. After we equalised to go ah, fuck was his name. That's really an annoy me. After we equalised to go 3-3, ryan Jack hit the post as well. We should have won 4-3. We had a goalie who was on loan from Man City. He was fucking the fero boy.
Speaker 1: One of them was a 1-1 and ran out to 40 yards out. When the boy took the shot, he dived. I'm glad you didn't say that, you lunatic. 40 yards out. Why are you throwing your hands at him? Unfortunately, it went 4-3 up 3-3.
Speaker 3: I've got down here, was constantly on goal and McGinnis scored them.
Speaker 2: The only goal? I mean talking about PTSD, Maybe it was.
Speaker 3: Yomo Wilney. Yomo Wilney that's.
Speaker 1: It Sounds a bit like Yere Meena, yomo Wilney. It's the same initials.
Speaker 3: That's what the team is fucking rotten as well. Stinking, robert Mills and who the fuck are they? Oh, Rob.
Speaker 2: Mills, osborn was a no bad player.
Speaker 1: Isaac Osborn was just a nutter. He was hard as nails, which was good fun to watch. Rob Millson when he first arrived looked like he was going to be shit ball and then he got a really really bad injury and he was never really the same again, but loved the coiffed turn in the middle of the park, rob.
Speaker 2: Mills, silly. you know that Aberdeen, if that Aberdeen team, were rotten, don't read out the power line up.
Speaker 3: No, in fact, i'm going to play it for a laugh because it's been a good game. Dowie Potter, okay, That's a back three.
Speaker 2: No no, no, great start, to be honest.
Speaker 3: Paul Willis, mason Kellerman, all Burns, david Graham, addy Boyle, andy Barrowman. So there's some lights in there. Andy Barrowman, was that right?
Speaker 2: Was he not?
Speaker 3: That was good, Andy Barrowman.
Speaker 2: Was he the Andy Barrowman? If I was being brutally honest, i'd say probably a bit of a depth in the top division, as most of that is to be honest.
Speaker 1: So the Aberdeen team are the same game.
Speaker 3: David Gonzalez, chris Clark, clancy, dine Maloney Foster, captain Ryan Jack Wilson, fife McGenness and Rodney Fallon.
Speaker 1: Rodney Fallon scored a stunning goal at Hampton when we got beat 2-1 by Hebs one goal of the season. It's very a crouch but from the middle of the box brings it down in his chest and volleys it over his head into the top corner. Worldly that we had. Who was another goalie that season? Was it Scott Brown on the bench?
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was Scott Brown.
Speaker 1: He was fucking gubbins as well. Interesting to see what I'm Firmland do next year, i'm going to back them when the league on the start of the season. I think the defensive solidity is going to be really useful if they can maintain that next season.
Speaker 3: I need the new goalkeeper, so that's a start You can have one of ours if you want.
Speaker 1: We've got loads kicking about at the moment. We've got. Jane Cotter, who looked brilliant but is only on loan and he isn't getting a game, so he's not going to stick around, which is a shame. Kill Arooos, you can't have him because he's going to stay, but you can have Joe Lewis if you want. Joe Lewis would be the rush out. to be fair, joe Lewis in the championship would be brilliant. Commanding Big Lad, could it save in shots?
Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot of hope that the minute will stay Apparently.
Speaker 3: he's on absolute pocket, though as well.
Speaker 2: He's not on loan, though. He's not on loan though.
Speaker 3: He's been a backup goalkeeper, always puff until this season, but apparently he's on upwards of a grand a week at Dubfremont.
Speaker 2: I mean there are people listening to that, but that doesn't sound very much like that's fucking. That's the upper echelons. Dubfremont's wage structure.
Speaker 3: Do you know who's fault that is? He's getting that much money though, dundee night. That's where he was last time on the bench. Two grand a week.
Speaker 2: That's the peer grant.
Speaker 3: That's who's fault that is, that's true. He did bring him in.
Speaker 1: You can all laugh at peer grant when you're in the Premier League 24-25 season, when we're hitting episode 200 of the podcast and it's powers every week instead of Aberdeen, because we're all bored of Aberdeen winning the league in the Europa.
Speaker 2: League We finished that?
Speaker 1: When was the last time that happened?
Speaker 2: We had 1960.
Speaker 3: You got to the, you finished third and fourth in the early 2000s, more than 2005.
Speaker 2: We got to the UEFA Cup, which was still called at the time. Third, was this No behave? We got put out by Icelandic Miltman. That's that It was David Haver's manager. That was called Aberdeen that season.
Speaker 3: He got punched like the Aberdeen and then they ripped the arse and we did Was Barley.
Speaker 2: Nicholson still there, we took him.
Speaker 1: He was one of our first signings when Colby was coming, we took a lot. We took Nicholson.
Speaker 3: We ended up with.
Speaker 2: Mr Dempsey Crawford. Half of our team moved to Aberdeen. We were called David Haver and Jobbers.
Speaker 1: I spoke to Gary Dempsey when he was in Iceland once on the phone. Craig McCallum just bumped into him in Iceland and so called him so I could speak to him. I remember it being a really awkward 30 seconds of alright, gary, i'm an Aberdeen fan, why not?
Speaker 2: I can't believe it.
Speaker 3: I can't believe it, i'm bouncing out of random people.
Speaker 2: I'm like I just phoned someone that I was connecting with you. If you've got a phone, phone with a family supporter. I don't think Gary Dempsey has held much of a affinity in Aberdeen.
Speaker 1: This was when he was there. Oh, when he was there.
Speaker 2: Oh, you mean Iceland, as in the shop.
Speaker 1: No, i thought you meant the country I was just watching, craig bumped into him in Iceland.
Speaker 2: No, no, that sounds a bit less important.
Speaker 1: You were stopping in Iceland In.
Speaker 2: Iceland of all places In Dumfirmland as well.
Speaker 1: In Dumfirmland and Craig bumped into him and called me and we put him on the phone and he'd scored that day. So I said we're all done for him scoring. No, i don't think I've been saying Gary Dempsey's held in any bad a place in Aberdeen.
Speaker 3: No, it's the club. Check his speaks.
Speaker 2: I've heard he's a bad athrump of these things.
Speaker 3: He's two years of interest in these days.
Speaker 1: Oh are they. Is he a big Andrew Tater?
Speaker 3: No, he likes the conspiracy. He likes the conspiracy he's been on.
Speaker 2: He was in the Matrix, gary Dempsey, definitely on that moment.
Speaker 1: We've extended this pod by about 40 minutes, talking Absolutely, even if Sheila can think of something else that we should be talking about now.
Speaker 2: It's done.
Speaker 1: It's going into next week. That was a pleasure. Next week we'll do our end of season round up and then we'll do our two soon predictions.
Speaker 3: Week after that.
Speaker 1: Week after that we'll have the FA Cup and Champions League final. Are they both the same weekend?
Speaker 2: Week after we'll have the FA Cup.
Speaker 1: Week after that we'll have the Champions League and within them we'll do our late kickoffs. Probably after the FA Cup we'll do late kickoffs, the awards, and then after the Champions League we'll do the end of season quiz and then that will be us until at least one summer special when we do how to fix Scottish football. That might need to be a part one, part two job. I could also see the panel being about 15 deep with all the people that want to contribute to that. So at least one or two summer specials to look forward to as well. That's everything this week, sheila. Thank you very much.
Speaker 2: You're welcome.
Speaker 1: Mike, thank you very much. Yes, you're welcome. Week after we'll have the Champions League final.
