He was training to save lives. He should have come home.
In this episode of the Safety Services New Brunswick podcast, host Perley Brewer speaks with Jessica Gillis about her brother, Skyler Blackie, a firefighter who died following a training incident in 2019.
Jessica shares who Skyler was, the lasting impact of his death on her family, and their efforts to prevent another family from experiencing the same loss.
She also discusses the support she has found through Threads of Life - Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support.
Her message is clear: workplace safety cannot be an afterthought. It must be more than a policy on paper.
Thank you, Jessica, for sharing Skyler’s story and reminding us why this work matters.
