COUNTDOWN: Washington Capitals Prepare as Alex Ovechkin Returns to North America, DRIVING Change

Washington Capitals set the stage for Alex Ovechkin's next chapter as September 10th marks his anticipated return from Russia. Is this Ovechkin’s final NHL season, or will he surprise fans yet again? DAN HOLMI analyzes Ovechkin’s contract situation, the “anything is possible” mindset, and how an 84-game season might impact the goal-scoring legend as he chases Gretzky’s record.

With roster upgrades like Tuch, Kyrou, and Jenner bringing added physicality and depth, the Capitals shift from a one-man show to a true contender alongside the Carolina Hurricanes in the Metro Division. NHL 27 ratings signal a new era, as Thompson overtakes Ovechkin as the highest-rated Capital. The podcast breaks down new line combinations, Spencer Carberry’s coaching strategy, and why managing Ovechkin’s minutes could be the key to another playoff push. Can the revamped Capitals deliver meaningful hockey in April?
