When enough little things pile up, it can start to feel like life itself is working against you.
That’s where I found myself recently in the middle of our basement project: boxes everywhere, contractors coming and going, constant noise, schedules changing, a running mental list of everything I needed to coordinate—and then my phone broke in the middle of trying to chase down yet another unfinished task.
My immediate reaction was basically, “Of course it did.”
And that was the moment I realized how much my perspective had shifted.
I had gone from someone who intentionally looks for what’s working, notices the good, and generally trusts that things will work themselves out to someone constantly scanning for the next problem. Every inconvenience had started becoming evidence that everything was going wrong.
In this episode of Clear & On Purpose, I’m talking about what happened when I caught that pattern and started asking two questions:
How do I actually want to feel?
And how can I create a little more of that within the reality I’m in right now?
I share how small, realistic actions—cleaning out my car, carving a path to my desk, clearing one calm workspace, getting thoughts and tasks out of my head—helped me regain a sense of agency and perspective without trying to fix my entire life.
We also get into the harder part: recognizing when changing your environment genuinely supports you and when you’re trying to control everything around you so you don’t have to experience discomfort.
You’ll hear about:
- How overwhelm can change what you notice and make every new inconvenience feel like confirmation that everything is going wrong
- Why I use “How can I?” to look for the next realistic action instead of creating another giant self-improvement list
- The difference between making something measurably better and demanding that it become perfect
- How small external changes can create enough internal space to process what’s actually happening
- Why frustration doesn’t need to be immediately reframed or fixed
- What this season is showing me about control, discomfort, perspective, and my own capacity
- How to notice where you may have more influence over your experience than you’re currently giving yourself credit for
You may not be able to change every circumstance you’re in. But you can get curious about where your interpretation, attention, and next action are shaping the experience—and what might shift if you consciously create a little more of what you actually want to feel.
