In Episode 53 of United By Rice, Ben and Junko reflect on one of the most meaningful nights in Asian American entertainment: the Unforgettable Awards. Before the interview, the hosts discuss the history and significance of the ceremony and why it has remained one of the most important celebrations of Asian and Pacific Islander excellence in entertainment for more than two decades.
This year’s 23rd Annual Unforgettable Awards, presented by GoldenTV and Character Media, took place on March 7 at the Fairmont Century Plaza, honoring influential figures including Chloé Zhao, Bowen Yang, and the creative team behind KPop Demon Hunters. The evening also featured live performances from Eric Nam, Sinéad Harnett, Peng Peng, and magician and mentalist Kevin Li, with presenters including Atsuko Okatsuka, Charles Melton, Randall Park, Lewis Tan, Fala Chen, and stars from XO, Kitty and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Later in the episode, Ben and Junko sit down with Takashi Cheng, who shares insight into the mission behind GoldenTV and the continued evolution of the Unforgettable Awards. Cheng discusses how honorees are selected, the growing diversity of talent being recognized, and why platforms dedicated to Asian American storytelling are more important than ever. The conversation also explores the cultural impact of Asian representation in media, the importance of community support in building sustainable careers, and the future of Asian American stories in Hollywood and beyond.
The ceremony will stream as a live-to-tape special on Friday, March 13 from 6–8 PM PT on GoldenTV, available on Xumo Play and the GoldenTV app.
