Christian: What's up everybody? Welcome back to another episode of Under Analyzed. This is Utah Sports Podcast, but tonight we are all New York Knicks. We hope that you witnessed the last five minutes of Game Four, ⁓ where the Knicks overcame a twenty nine point deficit to beat the Spurs to take a three one series lead in the NBA finals. ⁓ it's kind of ironic. We spent the last, what was it, last episode, two episodes ago, talking about how the Jazz can beat Wembenyama and ⁓ turns out all you have to do is
Jake: Yeah.
Christian: Have Spike Lee as your biggest fan. That's all it takes.
Jared: Yeah, who's like the jazz? We don't have any celebrity fans, like post Malone because he lives here, but like is that it?
Jake: Some ⁓ mammoth players.
Christian: Who's that ⁓ Julia Reagan?
Jared: Okay. Yeah, ⁓ yeah, sh she'll be there. She's everywhere.
Jake: Well she's dead now, so
Christian: Gotta be it's gotta be Dude, I I haven't lived in Utah in ten years and I know Julia Reagan.
Rhees: She's looking down from above.
Jake: Ha ha.
Jared: May she rest in peace. You know, r it's the wife of the company like Reagan is the billboard company. And it's like the matriarch of the family.
Christian: Who is Julie Reagan? Is she
Jake: They they own the billboards. Yeah. So that that's why when she died, there was literally her picture on like a million billboards for a year at least.
Jared: And they bring her back every single year now. For like a month.
Christian: Bring her back. Happy Halloween. Okay.
Jared: Yeah. Yeah. And it's
Jake: Yeah.
Rhees: I saw another one literally like l like a week ago.
Jared: No, they're coming yeah, I they're they're there. It's crazy. So she'll be there. We just put a huge billboard of her just in the game.
Christian: Hmm.
Jake: Yeah.
Christian: Like the COVID fans just have the video of her in the stands. I like it. I like it. Well, the NBA finals are hot and heavy. They're awesome. They're in full swing. ⁓ they're obviously not over yet. Then the Spurs have had two opportunities where they could have stolen games from New York, couldn't get the job done. So hopefully all I want is it free to go to seven. I don't think it will, but that would be sweet. In jazz news, we are less than two weeks away.
Jared: Yeah. There we go.
Jake: Ha ha ha. Yeah.
Christian: from the beginning of the jazz dynasty. And, you know, we're kind of in the we're kind of in the media phase where, you know, we get the number two overall pick, social media goes crazy. Okay, we need to draft this guy. And then everybody realizes, okay, we've still got a month of the draft. What are we going talk about for a month? Like we can relate, right? Under Analyze Podcast. And so now we're kind of getting into like the weird like Overthinking zone, I think, as jazz fans collectively seeing lots of ⁓ maybe overthinking the room or outthinking the room, going with Camboozer, ⁓ trading down, get some assets. I saw a proposed trade where we trade with the Nets for number six and Yigor Dioman. Doesn't make sense to me, but that's where we are as jazz fans, is we're coming up with dumb stuff to talk about for the next couple weeks. Jake, bring us back down to earth. What do the jazz need to do?
Jake: Well, yeah, just to pile onto your point, I saw something on Twitter today about and it was from like a a regular basketball source that was like people expect the Jazz or league sources expect the Jazz to try and move up to the number one spot, which would require trading Ace Bailey, right? So we've come full circle to that ridiculous idea. There's no way we're trading Ace Bailey to move up one spot in a three player draft.
Jared: Yeah.
Jake: Or a four player draft, whatever you want to call it, or a two player draft even. Because guess what? We have the second pick. And it's kind of a toss up. Even even AJ isn't like he's probably gonna go number one, but there's still a debate, right? It's not like last year with Cooper Flag or the Wemby draft where it's like this guy's going number one and there's no debate around it. So I don't know. Like I I kinda like we're we're picking second and don't overthink it. Danny Ainge, Austin Ainge. ⁓ Ryan Smith, we just need to take Darren Peterson. Like I I was watching Darren Peterson clips today, ⁓ from high school and college, and his shot making is just insane. Like his his start stop ability, he just makes these tough fadeaways, right? His form is fast, it's clean. Like he's regardless of how he turns out in terms of like his ceiling, he's gonna be a good shooter in the NBA. Like he just is based off of his shot mechanics. So like at a minimum, we're getting a good three point shooter, which is exactly what we need. We need another good shooter that's a threat at the guard position. So I also saw a tweet that somebody said, you know, the Jazz aren't gonna draft based off of their ⁓ team and what position they need to fill. I think that's also a stupid take because it's not like we're planning on scrapping this team, right? It's not like the Jazz of I don't know, f three years ago when We didn't know who our core really was going to be going forward. I mean, we had Lowry, but it w it wasn't really clear where we were going or or how soon we'd be out of the rebuild. But now it's like we know who our core is. We know we're gonna have Lowry. We're gonna have Jaron Jackson Jr. Like, are we gonna draft Cam Boozer and make him play behind those guys? Like the the only thing I see if we draft Cam Boozer, I feel like we have to trade Lowry. Like I that that would that would be the only thing that makes sense if we take Boozer.
Jared: Well, the nice thing is like the fit versus like the best player in the it's the same pick. Like it's gonna be the same pick for us. It's Darren Peterson, he's six six, like he's massive. I think that kinda gets lost that he's actually like a he's a very big guard and he's an incredible tag and like yeah, we're just but it's just part of the media cycle, right? Where people are gonna try to create content and I saw stuff is like, Cam Boozer's actually gonna go number one. Like that's what's gonna happen. And just just
Jake: Yeah, exactly.
Jared: Crazy stuff. Please take Aaron Peterson.
Jake: If you're making if you're making a Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan prototype, my player, college player, it Darren Peterson is that. Like that's the type of like that's his kind of playstyle, right? Like a slashing guard who has a really good shot. And he's like the same size as both those guys were.
Christian: Now, on that note, Jake, I was thinking about this today, doesn't matter who we pick, right? Acer er I'm sorry, AJ or Peterson, that player's coming off the bench to start the season, yeah.
Jake: I think so. I wouldn't be surprised though if they end up starting part way through the season.
Christian: Yeah, I agree with that.
Jake: It it really depends. I think what it really is gonna depend on is how much or how well Jaron Jackson Jr., Lowry Markinen, and Walker Kessler mesh. Right. If those three are really good together and they're starting, then it's gonna be Keontae and Ace or the the guy we drafted to, I think. And that'll be tough 'cause I think Ace is gonna can obviously continue to improve this year. And ⁓ You know, it'll be it'll be an interesting balance that ⁓ Will Hardy will have to make because you don't wanna discourage like Ace Bailey from having him be replaced by a rookie. But at the same time if if you need to make the right call for the best development for both the team chemistry and the number two pick that we just had.
Jared: Yeah. ⁓
Rhees: What a terrible problem to have.
Jake: Yeah. Yeah. Such a bad problem to have too many good players to try to try and try and figure out who you're starting.
Christian: Yeah. I feel better, Jake. I feel better, I feel grounded.
Jake: Just if we just need to take whoever the wizards don't take out of Darren Peterson and AJ DeMontsa. That's literally it. That that is the formula.
Christian: Yeah, it's you guys have kids, you know the pow pow fish. I feel like we're in the dreary dreary wearies right now. Where it's like we're we're two weeks away, which is really close, but two weeks is a long time still. So I don't know. We just need to weather the storm. Don't get weird, don't get stir crazy, Austin, don't get stir crazy, Danny. Just hold on.
Jared: You betcha.
Rhees: Ha ha ha.
Jared: All over the place.
Rhees: Mm-hmm.
Jake: Still really fall. Yeah. Yeah. And just acknowledge there are insane jazz fans all over Twitter and Reddit that are gonna say stupid stuff.
Christian: Yeah. Yeah. Any final jazz thoughts?
Jared: Draft party thirteen days from now, Jake, you can come, Reese in Utah.
Jake: Yeah, Reese come down for the draft party. That'd be fun. Christian come up.
Jared: You have like stuff for kids and stuff?
Rhees: Down.
Christian: That would be sick. ⁓ it's on a Tuesday, which isn't great. Isn't great for me, but it's a Tuesday at five Pacific, which is also a bummer. But what do you guys think? Live live draft reaction pod?
Jake: Yeah, that's tough. That is that is tough.
Rhees: Ha ha ha.
Jake: Yep. If we don't go to the party.
Jared: Definitely should.
Christian: ⁓ you guys are actually gonna go to the party.
Jared: I think like I want to. They'll ⁓ free. Do your own. They'll have a thirty foot screen showing the draft live. ⁓ those doing like the big the bear will be there. That's exciting. I don't know.
Christian: for you guys, I'll do my own podcast.
Jake: Ha ha.
Rhees: Solo Christian Pod.
Jake: I'm torn because it would be fun, but being the antisocial person I am, I probably will enjoy it more by myself, watching it on my computer.
Jared: I've gone before and they've had like kid activities, that's kinda fun. But yeah, we'll see. We'll see.
Christian: Did you have fun with those, Jared?
Jared: With what?
Christian: The kid activities. I don't know.
Jared: I I know the kid activities are great. Yeah. No, it's fun. He's trying to try to brainwash these kids into liking the jazz when there's so many better options out there. I'm gonna do my do my part.
Rhees: Yeah.
Christian: Cool.
Jake: Ha ha.
Christian: Good for you, Joe.
Jake: What's embarrassing is I became a diehard jazz fan in college. So like my frontal lobe was close to developed, but it was not developed enough.
Jared: ⁓ huh.
Christian: What what's even worse than that? It was Rodney Hood that did it.
Jake: No, that wa you were on Rodney Hood, yeah, it was the Gordon Hayward Rodney Hood, you know, Joe Johnson team when we beat the Clippers in the first round. Joe Johnson game winner. Incredible.
Jared: Yeah, that's great. Yeah.
Rhees: Great Rodney Hood story. I talked to him for ten seconds.
Jake: Really?
Rhees: I had him ⁓ I was I was there pre game and and they were signing stuff and he signed something, some jazz gear, I remember. I'm like, that game that where you popped off the where Kobe had to face guard you w was sick. He's like smiled huge. He's like, Thanks, man. And he walks away. That was it.
Jake: His game winner against the Mavericks, I will always remember that shot. I'm pretty sure we were watching that game together, Christian and Reese. ⁓
Rhees: I do not recall. I never remember anything.
Jared: Is that was that the I was not there?
Christian: Jared, were you there?
Jake: It was the one against the Mav the Mavericks where he came down and hit the three game winner. Yeah.
Jared: Fancy.
Christian: You had a
Jared: That when you did like the alligator clap thing?
Rhees: That does ring a bell. Anyways, off topic.
Christian: Man, good times. Good times. Good that was so one of the best nights of my life, Jared. But you wish you were there. And Rodney Hood was involved.
Jared: Mm. Good time for you guys. That's great for you guys.
Jake: Yeah, me me and Reese went to a jazz game that year on New Year's Eve and it was five dollars, if that tells you how good they were.
Jared: That's great.
Christian: There we go. I love it. We're we're almost there. Reese, mammoth update.
Rhees: A what's the opposite of a mammoth? Something small. A dodo.
Jake: A mouse.
Christian: Dodo, mouse, nice.
Jared: Probably a dodo. Yeah.
Rhees: ⁓ quick small mammoth update. We have a ton of assets. We have a ton of incredible prospects. And what I love about Bill Armstrong is he is totally bought in to being patient with these prospects and letting them develop. But he doesn't just stick his head in the sand, right? He is active in talking to everyone and anyone about what's on the table, who would be right. And we are
Christian: That was a big
Rhees: We pop up in the media cycle, especially when things are kind of dull, just because Bill Armstrong's always poking his head around. And the two updates of people who have expressed interest in Utah, ⁓ mutual interest, are Sebastian Casa and Dylan Larkin. So I don't know if it's Casa or Cosa, but he is a six six, two hundred and twenty one pound goalie. Who's only ever played one game in the N NHL. ⁓ but he is absolutely dominating in the American Hockey League. And we need a backup really bad. So he's cheap, he's really good in the AHL, and he's ready to play now. Whereas our goalie prospects need some more need more time. ⁓ so he's he's on the table, and Dylan Larkin
Jared: Yes.
Rhees: ⁓ which kind of surprised me at first, but then when I heard that we let go of Kevin Stenland, who has been our face off guy, he's been our veteran center. So veteran veteran face off guy, veteran ⁓ like penalty killer. They let him go. I'm like, what are we doing? Like he's wouldn't be that expensive. But we have all these centers in the prospect pool. Well, Dylan Larkin is a veteran center. He's a face off expert. ⁓ but he costs a lot of money. So well, we have the assets, right? If we wanted to give up some center prospects, a team would probably go for that. ⁓ he's had five straight seasons of thirty goal seasons. Right, like so very, very consistent. So those are the two prospects that have the rumors from relatively reliable NHL reporters are are saying are interested in Utah. This is all speculation, but it is interesting to see if we're gonna make these off season moves and move prospects, or if we're gonna stay patient and keep it tight and wait for them to come up.
Christian: Now looking at Bill Armstrong, he looks exactly how I would picture a hockey general manager to look.
Rhees: Hundred percent. You type into a a have AI generate a G N H L G ⁓ and it's him.
Christian: Yeah, it's like how you'd put like evil genius who doesn't get enough hours of sleep every night and it pulls up Quinn Snyder. This is it's the same thing for Bill Armstrong. Well, good. That's exciting. ⁓ yeah, I mean, I get so psyched about the jazz, so psyched about the NBA. And realistically, the Utah team with the best chance at taking that next step and being a true contender is the is Utah mammoth. So again, big grounding podcast for us. I love it. I love it.
Jared: Yeah.
Christian: Reese, you got some trivia for us.
Rhees: Trivia. All right. So again, answers at the end, but this will be good for you guys to think about. Originally, there were six names presented to the Utah public to vote on for the Utah Mammoth team name. You guys have to get three of the six that were not mammoth. So three out of five.
Christian: That was gonna be my first guess.
Rhees: there's some low hanging fruit here. Obviously, keep the answers to yourself. But ⁓ you guys need to get three of the six that were presented, other than Mammoth.
Jake: Yeah. Imagine it wasn't one of the six.
Jared: I got one. Yeah.
Christian: I think we do that. I think we can probably do. We just need think need to think of the dumbest names we can think of and we'll probably be close because they were not very good.
Jared: probably do it. I think we can do it between the three of us.
Jake: All I know is this is already a better trivia question than Jared's was last week.
Jared: Okay. And if you guys are wondering, th the opposite of a mammoth probably is a tingamara. It's ⁓ it's a small little rodent, prehistoric rodent in Australia. I was trying to think of something like the opposite of where like North American Siberia. Just wanna throw that out there. Just make sure where that's clear. What do you say? No, it's yeah, kind of. Just wanna make sure that's very, very clear. I know some people were kinda hung up on that. Okay.
Christian: That yeah. ⁓
Jake: So basically a mouse a prehistoric mouse.
Rhees: Ha ha ha.
Christian: Yeah.
Rhees: I I was dying to know. Thank you, Jared.
Jake: Yeah, it's
Christian: Well, I just think it's interesting that we banned you from trivia last week and now you're started a new segment called Jared's Fun Facts, which okay, hey one What was what was it called? A mount la the prehistoric mouse? It's like a Tingamara hop away from trivia.
Jake: Yeah.
Jared: I think everyone's having a lot of fun with that one. Tingamura? Tingamara? Yeah. ⁓ it's fine. Okay, there you go.
Rhees: Okay.
Christian: Okay. All right, let's talk football. This is a sports podcast. Brendan Soresby, the well, I don't know if I'd call him the most hated man in college football right now, but he's on the Mount Rushmore of most hated people in college football right now. Quick background ⁓ Nebraska quarterback transfers to Cincinnati, has a pretty good season, is a Davy O'Brien final semi finalist, gets paid a lot of money, rumors five million dollars to transfer to Texas Tech. After he transfers to Texas Tech, it comes out that he has been the subject of a gambling investigation where he has been placing ⁓ hundreds of sports bets in the value of around eighty thousand dollars on all sorts of sorts of sports, including college football. A couple days later comes out that he's actually betting on Nebraska football games while he was a member of the team. And now, even though he said no, I was just betting on them to feel like I was part of the team. It comes out that he was actually betting against Nebraska while he was there. And he was even going as far as betting the under on passing yards for the guy who was playing ahead of him after sitting in quarterback meetings all week. Which that's gotta feel bad if you're the starter. Where comes out and he's like, ⁓ yeah, this guy's cooked. Yeah. So, anyways, here we are. NCA comes out, issues a a ruling, and they suspend him indefinitely, right? He can't play football anymore. ⁓
Jake: He's just trying to feel a part of the team.
Jared: That's brutal.
Rhees: Ha ha ha.
Christian: Lesson number one of life, lawyers ruin everything. And he gets a lawyer, pays him a bunch of money, they appeal the NCAA's decision, they file for a preliminary injunction, which gets granted by spoiler alert, a judge who went to Texas Tech Law School.
Jake: ⁓ my gosh.
Rhees: ⁓ my I didn't know that what
Christian: Gets better if the injunction gets appealed, it goes up to the ⁓ circuit courts. All four of those judges also went to Texas Tex Law School.
Jared: That's wild.
Rhees: Would they not recru recuse themselves for whatever that is?
Christian: Well, the judge who issued the ruling, he was actually the substitute judge after the first judge recused himself. So there's layers here, man. There's layers. And now we have this quarterback who was actively betting in games that he well, I wouldn't say he controlled the outcome because it I mean to his credit, quote unquote. He didn't play in any of these games, but he was actively betting on games
Rhees: Ridiculous.
Christian: that his team was participating in and now suddenly he's eligible to play college football this year. Somehow Georgia is waving the sword of justice here, leading the spearheading the charge on like protesting Texas Tech. And now there are talks of SEC teams, Big Ten teams saying that they're not going to play Texas Tech in any sport if they allow Brendan Soresby to play football this year. How does this relate to BYU in Utah? Jared and I hopped on the internet really quick. Turns out we don't play either U BYU or Utah doesn't play Texas Tech this year.
Jared: With all their drunk players. Yeah.
Christian: But as definitely the favorite to win the Big Twelve again, it ⁓ it has a pretty significant impact on BYU and Utah's football seasons. Jared, what are your thoughts, man?
Jared: first thought is did you see the judge's what did he say? Like he what he's his rationale for his judgment for why he reinstated Soresby. It said
Christian: I hope so.
Jared: It said Sorby needs to needs to be eligible to build the necessary skills to maximize his own success. He would lose elite coaching, training resources, camaraderie and regimen that can only ⁓ that only being a member of the D V D one college football team can provide. Like that's as rational as like, yeah, he won't be able play football if he doesn't play football. It's like what a stupid reason. Like okay, whatever. It's just g
Jake: Yeah.
Rhees: What happened to consequences for actions?
Christian: That's what the judge said?
Jared: No, no, no, no, no, no. When you play football, it kinda you don't have to worry about any of that stuff. Especially in Texas when everyone's your almond matter. ⁓ everyone went to your almond matter. Or went to this tech this tech. Just wild stuff. ⁓ initial thoughts. It is kind of like I understand betting on the sport's not good. He should not be able to play. I think that's very fair. It is just wild that you have some of these teams like a Georgia who are like leading the charge holier than thou when literally
Rhees: As ridiculous.
Jared: Every single offseason they have a wide receiver who is caught speeding and is drunk driving and crashing into something. Like literally every single offseason for the last like three or four years. So it's just like it's absolutely insane. And people are trying to like I don't I don't understand what kind of moral high ground a lot of these institutions are trying to dupe when they've been doing things shady for the last whatever 20, 30, 40 years and only recently are to. are allowed to pay their players, but they've been doing that for the whole time. But no one cares about they don't care about that. I don't know. So it would be if they are not allowed to play Texas Tech, it opens up the Big Twelve like crazy. Like BYU would probably be favorite, co favorite, like up in that range, the top echelon of of the Big Twelve. Which mean an would mean an awe like an automatic buy most likely, depending how how the season goes. And it'd be really good for Utah too. Like we would Though both those teams would be one amongst the favorites in the Big Twelve. So there's big ramifications. I don't know if this I don't think this is over. It'll be really interesting to see how this all progresses. And I don't think he should be able to play. But if they do, I hope that BYU doesn't boycott him for that reason. Like in all sports, that's just seems a little much. but yeah, it's very, very interesting. And the guy's an idiot. I saw his one thing, he put twenty nine hundred bets. Absolutely insane. And at least forty of the bets were on the his games and players like when he was playing on the team. So just just absolutely crazy. ⁓ what an idiot. He had someone yeah, he's just he's just an idiot. So fun story.
Rhees: I mean l obviously want to keep it focused on Utah state schools impact, ⁓ the state of Utah rather, but have you guys ever seen anything like this before? As someone who just watches college football from afar, like this is this is this feels sort of unprecedented to a casual fan, but have you seen anything like this?
Jared: When they've been denied eligibility and then reinstated eligibility?
Rhees: Like like a a a massive number of schools trying to boycott games against another.
Jared: Hmm. Nothing's coming to mind.
Rhees: Like it wouldn't shock me if it's happened before, but it's just ⁓ nothing I've ever seen.
Christian: No, I mean Yeah, I mean the o
Jake: Well what is the NCA double A even gonna do? Like if teams refuse to play them?
Christian: I it it's it's gonna be a weird situation. It's gonna be weird 'cause I think
Jake: Like what happens?
Christian: I mean, Texas Tech isn't exactly handling it well either, I don't think. Because look, they came out and they're like, look, we have to support him. You know, we have to be there for him. He's an you know an addict. He's suffering with this from this mental illness. We need to be there for him. And all of that is true. But that doesn't mean he gets to play football, right? Like you can give him all the resources he needs to overcome this gambling issue without challenging the integrity of the game, right? Because You are opening up the doors to all sorts of issues where he goes out and he has a bad game. Is he, is he throwing the game? Like, is that intentional? Like, is he gambling on this game? Is are his family and friends gambling on this game, right? Like there's no more confidence that he isn't messing with the integrity of the game, right? Even if he just has a bad afternoon. Right. And so I don't know, like, this is something where I mean, it's kind of crazy. Because there are so many like bad things that happen that athletes do, right? Where there's like domestic violence and ⁓ and all sorts of things, right? But none of those things affect the integrity of the game. Right. So in a way, this is if you're, you know, speaking not about morality but strictly about like sports integrity, this is somehow worse than all of that. And Texas Tech believes it's it's not a big deal. It's it's kind of insane.
Rhees: Well, and from what I've seen, they're doubling, tripling down on that. They're they're highlighting that this morally is not that big a deal and completely ignoring a lot of the integrity piece. Like literally, I I feel like I saw some spokesperson or the coach or someone say, like, it's not like he killed anyone. It's like, okay, ⁓ what about everything that, you know, the argument that Christian just made? It it just seems like a a a huge oversight.
Jake: Well, and it would also potentially make other players feel safer doing shady stuff like this, right? 'Cause it's like, hey, there's this precedent where he was gambling on games and then he still got to play, he was still eligible. Right. Like I feel like in this type of situation, you have to come down super hard if you're the NCAA. Like you have you have to show like you have to set this as an example. Regardless of what's going on with him personally, right? Get him help.
Christian: Mm-hmm.
Rhees: And
Jake: That he doesn't need to play football to get help, right? Get him help, but like you for the integrity of the sport, you have to come down hard on this.
Rhees: And sports betting has absolutely exploded in the US in the last several years. And our generation is spending more and more and more and like ⁓ just completely bonkers numbers on sports betting. This was going to happen eventually and it was going to be big. And if they don't nip it in the bud, like you're saying, like this this could completely get out of hand because our generation is gambl sports betting ⁓ massive amounts.
Christian: Yeah, and the Reese, the guy that you're talking about who came out and said it's not a big deal, it's his name's Cody Campbell, and he's Texas Tech's biggest booster. And he's like on the what is it? I'm has been a member of the Texas Tech University Sister System Board of Regents. Like he is Texas Tech. He's funding everything. Like he's the guy. And to cut and what's so ironic is, you know, before today or two days ago, if you had ever heard he heard of Cody Campbell.
Rhees: Mm.
Christian: It's because he came out and said that he was gonna save college sports ⁓ with all of like passing all these bills to respect the integrity of the game and prevent all this like NIL stuff from to it's it's like like the epitome of hypocrisy. But now he's like, Well, you didn't kill anybody. It's like, yeah, because you just paid him five million dollars to come win Texas Tech a national championship. So it's it's a huge mess. I don't like At this point, I mean it's a whole nother conversation. It's like, what's the point of the NCAA anymore? If this is like the basic rule for sports participation, don't gamble on your own games. Right. You want to talk about Pete Rose, you want to talk about these boxing scandals. Don't gamble on the games that you play in. That's like rule number one of sports leagues. And they broke it and they tried to stop it and now he's eligible again. So I mean, as much as I hate to side with Georgia and the other teams throwing a throwing a fit, like Come on. I don't know, it turns out I'm more passionate about this than I thought I would be.
Jared: No, I I think it's fair that these like teams are upset about it. I just I just funny that the teams that was most upset about it have been like one more of the corrupt like programs in in N C double A, which is just kind of funny. Ironic, I should say. I don't know. Yeah, Cody Campbell looks like a huge fun guy. Cool guy. And and he seemed like
Jake: Mm-hmm.
Christian: Cool guy.
Rhees: So is the consensus just like the out the impact this is gonna have on the University of Utah and BYU is like a massive asterisk, T B D we don't know yet.
Christian: No, I so it'll be interesting to see what happens because the big twelve athletic directors had a meeting yesterday and Brett Yormak came out and virtually said nothing. Said, ⁓ yeah, everybody share their thoughts and feelings and we've got another emergency meeting that will be tomorrow, which is ⁓ Thursday the eleventh. So maybe we'll get more direction there, but It'll be interesting to see how BYU and Utah respond, but I mean this is something I think they've gotta be on the same team on.
Jared: Yeah, totally. So twenty twenty six, the according to ESPN, the big twelve football projection count where they're gonna end up, Texas Tech is gonna be it's projected number one. So this is why this is such a big deal, right? Number two is BYU, number three is Utah. So if Texas Tech is whatever they're either losing their quarterback or they're gonna have a lot of weird forfeits or whatever those how that's gonna count, which is gonna be very bizarre. Like BYU, Utah are favorite to win the Big twelve if this actually happens. If Texas Tech plays all their teams they're supposed to play with Soresby, like they should win. They're a much better team than both BYU and Utah. And it's not super close right now. So it I mean, huge implications for for BYU and Utah.
Christian: Yeah, it'll be interesting. This is this is gonna turn into one of the bigger sports stories of our lifetime. So if you guys are nerds.
Jake: Can you imagine can you imagine the ⁓ increase in the rivalry between BYU and Utah if they're battling for the top spot?
Jared: Well, in like in the Big Twelve Championship game, BR Utah? I wouldn't I couldn't watch. I'll just throw up.
Jake: That would be insane.
Rhees: That would be so sick.
Jake: Ha ha ha.
Christian: ⁓ well, I was gonna ask a dumb question. I was gonna ask wha what would be more destructive to their respective state or city? The Knicks winning the NBA finalist or BYU playing Utah in the Big Twelve Championship. The Knicks, I mean, that's an easy one 'cause turns out New Yorkers are crazy, but
Jared: That's almost as dumb as the Tingamara comment I made, so
Christian: Yeah. Not not quite.
Rhees: Ha ha ha.
Jared: Not quite.
Christian: But there you go. ⁓ on other Utah news. ⁓ Utah has I guess their contract with Under Armour is expiring, and so finally they are free from the worst apparel brand in college sports. The current leader is Adidas, so that'll add a little bit more to the BYU Utah rivalry, where BYU's longtime Nike school, Utah sliding over to the Adidas side, kinda fun, but I'm just glad that we don't have to deal with Under Armour anymore.
Jared: Is Adidas better? I don't know if that's better.
Jake: I feel like under armor is more prevalent in football than Adidas. Really? Okay.
Christian: It's kinda died. Like
Rhees: It you it used to be Under Armour has has if you look into like financials and cultural and all this stuff, they were big and they made some huge mistakes and they've fallen off hard.
Christian: In other words, they did not protect this house.
Jake: I had ⁓ I had I had under armor cleats when I played football for one year.
Rhees: Well said.
Jared: You you so you're loyal now? You're a loyal customer?
Christian: Nice. How'd that go?
Jake: I'm loyal, yeah.
Rhees: Just like he is the football.
Christian: Yeah. Yeah. Well there we go. That's all I've got for you guys. ⁓ any final sports thoughts?
Jake: Yeah, exactly.
Christian: Sweet rivalry or I'm sorry, trivia.
Jared: I don't think so. Yes.
Rhees: Rivalry trivia.
Christian: Rivalry trivia about the mammoth.
Rhees: Alright, so this is gonna take some integrity. Speaking of integrity of the game, ⁓ you guys can't cheat and take the names that the other people say before you. So who's the most ⁓ absolutely not.
Christian: integrity of the game. ⁓ this isn't a collective thing?
Jared: I thought it was just a group effort. This is not a group effort thing. Okay, come back. Do we do one each? How about we do that?
Jake: Yeah. What?
Christian: All right, I'll go first. Outlaws.
Rhees: Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Jake and Jared, do you have your lists solidified?
Jared: I was kinda hoping this was a group effort.
Jake: I have like one or two guesses.
Rhees: Okay, do you how ⁓ I will let this be a group group effort, but you have to get four of the five.
Christian: I I have a couple.
Jared: Okay. We're not kidding it. So Outlaws one. Yeti two. Outlaws. You said that. Yeti's again. Four.
Christian: Outlaws, I said already.
Rhees: Okay. Correct? Yes, both correct. You're two f three for three for three.
Jake: Utah hockey club.
Christian: That That was one. This is where it gets harder. Well, I feel like
Jake: The Yeti pisses me off right now, just hearing it again.
Rhees: Ha ha ha ha.
Jared: I didn't hate the yeti. Yeah.
Christian: I like Diety better than Outlaw.
Jake: Really? I th I think Yeti's so dumb. Like we're not the Himalayas.
Rhees: So the the two that you have left to choose from are a little bit more niche, but you will likely remember them if you hear them.
Christian: Is there a penalty for being wrong?
Rhees: No.
Christian: Blizzard.
Rhees: You got it. Correct.
Jared: Yeah. It was in the blizzard, yeah. Yeah. The blizz.
Christian: Was I? Yeah, I remembered the double Z to go with the jazz.
Jake: ⁓ black diamonds.
Rhees: Do you guys want can you guys get the bonus points for the last one? No.
Christian: Was it black diamonds? No, it wasn't. Elk or something like that. No? Okay.
Rhees: Hint. It is it is animal related.
Jared: Yeah, give us a hand.
Jake: ⁓ diamondbacks.
Christian: What's Jared's mouse called again?
Jared: Tingamara.
Jake: It's it's animal related.
Christian: You shot Tinkamaras.
Rhees: Last hint, it is a villain in the Spider-Man movies.
Jared: Green goblin.
Christian: Green goblins.
Jake: The Utah Doc Ox.
Jared: Yeah. Sandman Venom.
Christian: The is it it's not venom, right? Is it venom? That would have been so bad. That's that's that's by far worse than Yeti.
Rhees: Venom.
Jake: The venom? That'd been awful. That's worse than Yeti.
Rhees: You guys did really well. Well well done, well done. So, ⁓ Blizzard, Utah Hockey Club, Outlaws, Venom, Yeti, and ultimately the winner was Mammoth.
Jake: Blizzard is also terrible. Wow, we had so many bad options.
Jared: I don't think blizzards is terrible.
Christian: We were on thin ice.
Jake: I think it's pretty bad.
Jared: The blizzard?
Rhees: Boo. The reason blizzard was ⁓ was a actually a little bit controversial is because we're obviously geographically not that far from the Colorado Avalanche, the Utah Blizzard, they're quite similar.
Jake: Avalanche is way cooler than Blizzard.
Christian: Mm. Yeah. Also they're pretty different still. It's like is the rain the same as a tidal wave? No.
Rhees: Correct.
Jake: Yeah. W which one's a more impressive name?
Christian: Checkmate.
Jared: The drizzle. Yeah, there's a little
Christian: I don't know.
Jake: The Utah Drizzle.
Rhees: The ⁓ the Utah snow squall got ⁓ thrown around.
Jared: No. Really. I the mammoth is very, very good. W that good good choice.
Jake: Snow squall?
Rhees: Yeah, remember the squall? Ha ha ha.
Jake: We should have been the the Utah the Utah Lake effect.
Christian: Utah inversion. It's kinda fire. That's better than Venom.
Jared: It'd be pretty cool. Yeah.
Rhees: Well done on the trivia. Well done, well done.
Jake: It's defin yeah, I would take inversion over Venom and Yeti to be frank.
Christian: Here's the challenge, then we'll be done. What can you guys think of a name that's worse than Venom? That's appropriate.
Jared: I I can think of a lot of worse notes.
Rhees: Are you fishing?
Christian: No, I'm just gonna like the f yeah, fishers. That could be good. It's bad.
Rhees: ⁓ that's worse than Venom.
Jared: Ballon?
Christian: My the name that always gets thrown around when Utah's discussing like a new professional sports team is the Utah Pioneers. And I hate that so much and I would take that ten out of ten times over Venom.
Jared: Can I be?
Jake: ⁓ gosh. Yeah.
Jared: I don't know if I hate the Pioneers either. As not as much as you do, I don't think. Yeah, I don't think it's like horrible. At least it's like Utah related instead of like the jazz. Which is does nothing to do with Utah.
Jake: Seagulls.
Christian: Like the team name you mean?
Rhees: ⁓ the the jazz the jazz work only because they've been here for so long.
Jake: We we we adopted the jazz. Yeah.
Jared: Yeah, no, it's fine. I love the jazz, obviously.
Christian: I wish we could take the Raptors. We kinda talked about that.
Jared: Raptors, if we should have the Raptors.
Jake: That'd be sick. Yeah.
Jared: Definitely.
Christian: Alright, well there you go. Sorry I just kinda killed the vibe, but ⁓ Guys, I'm so excited to know who we're gonna take in the NBA draft. And we are t we are two podcasts away. One. One and then one live reaction by myself, me alone in a room with my thoughts and a microphone. Can't wait. We'll catch you next time. Thanks for sticking with us. Later.
Jake: Darren Peterson. Yeah. I
Jared: Bye.
Rhees: I
Yeah. I
Jared: Bye.
Rhees: I
