No racing? No problem. Chase Holden and Garrett Smithley celebrate RACESPACE Episode 20 with the first completely race-free weekend in the show’s run—and the conversation gets exactly as unhinged as an off-week episode should.
The guys catch up on everything that happened away from the track, including music bingo, Garrett’s 19-hour moving day, BMW putting Spider-Man on dashboard screens, the Black Mirror future of in-car advertising, bourbon heists, sports documentaries, baseball’s small-market problem, the greatest minor-league team names, and Garsen Golf joining the No. 0 program for the rest of the season.
Then RACESPACE turns back toward racing with a full Iowa Speedway preview. Garrett explains why Iowa has always felt special to NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series teams, what makes the seven-eighths-mile oval drive like a short track and an intermediate at the same time, how the track helped create some of his most loyal fans, and why he is excited to return to a place where he has previously earned a top-10 finish. Chase also looks ahead to another Iowa trip for the Knoxville Nationals with NOS Energy.
The episode closes with the latest NASCAR schedule talk and some of the strangest corners of the racing internet. Chase and Garrett react to the reported Clash return to Daytona, discuss how NASCAR can fully revive Speedweeks, watch Talladega’s “Degacon” campaign celebrating 20 years of Talladega Nights, pitch a Garrett Smithley pen to Austin Cindric, and react to Jimmie Johnson getting the No. 48 back for his final Daytona 500.
Plus: Kurt Busch at Wrigley Field, Michael McDowell’s rap career, the Aaron’s Dream Machine, Sting Ray Rob’s KONG car, Corn Man, Love’s beef jerky and more from the most unpredictable RACESPACE episode yet.
Follow RACESPACE for weekly NASCAR recaps, O’Reilly Auto Parts Series insight, IndyCar talk, garage stories, driver perspective and real racing conversation with Chase Holden and Garrett Smithley.
