Developing the Next Generation: West Indies Cricket Talent & Coaching Pathways | PowettPlay Podcast

In this episode of the PowettPlay Podcast, hosts Jordan Shannon and West Indies international Kieran Powell take a deep dive into the West Indies cricket talent pathway from Under-13s through to U19 and the crucial role of infrastructure in shaping the region’s future stars. Kieran shares his unique personal journey through the system, offering insight into talent identification, player development, and the importance of honing specialist skills at ages 16 and 17. He highlights what it really takes to nurture young cricketers into professional, international-level players. The conversation also shifts to the upcoming West Indies T20 series against Nepal, where Kieran predicts a new coaching team will travel to Dubai while the main staff prepare for the Test series in India. Jordan and Kieran debate whether enough is being done to support Caribbean coaching development, questioning if a single annual summit is sufficient. Kieran makes the case for 12 months of structured coaching, not just a few weeks before the season. Jordan raises a vital point on the future of West Indies cricket and franchise leagues, warning against losing top-level experience to T20 franchises. He argues that legends like Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Sunil Narine must remain within the West Indies cricket ecosystem to mentor and inspire the next generation. This episode blends insider knowledge, honest debate, and forward-thinking ideas on how to safeguard and grow the game in the Caribbean. Tune in for a must-listen discussion on youth development, coaching, and the future of West Indies cricket. #WestIndiesCricket #CricketPodcast #PowettPlayPodcast #KieranPowell #CaribbeanCricket #CricketDevelopment #TalentPathway #CaribbeanCricket #T20Cricket #CricketCoaching #CricketFuture #FranchiseCricket #DwayneBravo #KieronPollard #SunilNarine #CricketCommunity #CricketDiscussion #WindiesCricket #CricketNews #CricketPodcast #Podcast #CricketNews
