OM DETTA AVSNITT
Welcome to Offscript, the podcast where literature meets cinema. Each week, hosts Bri & Alli compare books to their movie adaptations — exploring what worked, what didn’t, and whether the book really was better than the movie. From timeless classics to today’s bestsellers, we break down characters, themes, and the creative choices that shape stories on page and screen.
🎬 This Week on Offscript: Three-Body Problem
This week, Bri & Alli step into cosmic uncertainty with Netflix’s adaptation of 3 Body Problem, based on the groundbreaking novel by Liu Cixin. What begins as a scientific mystery unfolds into an existential crisis for humanity—one that spans continents, timelines, and light-years.
Set against the backdrop of 1960s China and the modern scientific community, the series explores the consequences of a fateful decision: a secret signal sent into space that reaches a distant alien civilization trapped in a chaotic three-star system. Facing extinction, the Trisolarans set their sights on Earth—with an arrival estimated 400 years in the future.
Bri & Alli break down how the Netflix adaptation translates the dense, philosophical core of Liu’s novel to the screen. How does the series balance hard science with human drama? What changes were made to bring the story to a global audience? And how does it sustain tension when the central threat is centuries away?
📖 Synopsis:
In 1960s China, a secret military project sends a signal into space that is received by an alien civilization from a system of three unstable stars. The civilization, known as the Trisolarans, faces destruction due to their chaotic environment and plans to invade Earth—arriving in roughly 400 years.
On Earth, factions begin to form. Some welcome the coming invasion, disillusioned with humanity’s failures. Others prepare to resist at any cost. As the countdown begins, the fate of the planet rests not just on scientific innovation—but on human choice.

Set during World War II, the story follows a young Jewish girl in Nazi-occupied France whose survival depends on an unexpected act of courage and kindness.
In this episode, they’ll explore how the film brings the illustrated story to life, what changes were made for the screen, and how both versions deliver a powerful message about empathy, bravery, and choosing kindness when it matters most.
