Illinois basketball has the No. 1 projected ceiling in the country according to EvanMiya's latest Big Ten ceiling and floor projections! But just how good can Brad Underwood's Fighting Illini be in the 2026-27 college basketball season?
EvanMiya's model ran 10,000 season simulations, and the results are incredibly encouraging for Illinois basketball.
🏀 Illinois ranks No. 1 among Big Ten teams.
🏀 The Illini have a projected median national finish of No. 4.
🏀 Their high-end ceiling is No. 1 nationally.
🏀 Their low-end floor is No. 16 nationally.
But there's one major question surrounding this team: David Mirkovic's health.
Mirkovic is recovering from foot surgery, and his availability early in the season remains uncertain. Could a healthy Mirkovic be the difference between Illinois being a top-15 team and winning a national championship?
On today's Locked On Illini, we break down the EvanMiya projections, discuss Illinois' national championship potential, and explain why Brad Underwood has assembled one of the most talented rosters in college basketball.
We also examine the supporting cast, including Andrej Stojakovic, Stefan Vaaks, Quentin Coleman, Tomislav Ivisic, Zvonimir Ivisic and Ethan Brown.
Can Illinois make another Final Four? Could the Illini win their first national championship? And how much does David Mirkovic determine this team's ultimate ceiling?
