OM DETTA AVSNITT
In this episode of FailCraft, Amanda Trisdale joins Ezekiel to reveal howtraditional arts education routinely fails neurodivergent youth—and how she andher daughter built a revolutionary alternative. When Amanda's daughter, Leta, was diagnosed on the autism spectrum and non-verbal at age three, tap dancebecame her breakthrough lifeline for communication and motor skills. But asLeta excelled, the traditional dance world pushed back. Instead ofaccommodation, she was shoved into corners, had her coping mechanisms punishedas disrespect, and faced covert bullying disguised as "help."
Amanda breaks down whystandard "adaptive" dance programs fail by expecting dancers to adaptto sensory overloads while denying them technical training. She explains howthey founded Autistic Wings Dance Company—a nonprofit studiodesigned from the ground up by and for autistic artists in Colorado Springs.Amanda shares how they created a dance equivalent of an IndividualizedEducation Program (IEP), navigated the unexpected challenges of becoming anonprofit CEO, and why true advocacy begins by recognizing our own subconsciousbiases.
