The Commanders' 3 Biggest Matchups Against The Cowboys

The Washington Commanders head into Week 2 with another NFC East matchup, this time taking on the Dallas Cowboys. After a strong showing against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, Washington has a chance to make an early statement against a division rival. But Sean Anderson believes the game will come down to three critical matchups. The first matchup: Sam Cosmi vs. Dallas' defensive tackles. Cosmi had one of the strongest performances of any Commanders offensive lineman against Philadelphia, holding his own against Jalen Carter and helping Washington find success running behind him. Now he faces another major challenge. Dallas has invested heavily in the interior of its defensive line, adding players like Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark. Sean believes Cosmi will have a difficult matchup, but also believes Washington needs him to play like a true difference-maker on the offensive line. The second matchup: Antonio Williams vs. Dallas' defensive backs. After breaking out against Philadelphia with four catches, 64 yards and a touchdown, Williams has quickly earned more trust in Washington's offense. Now the rookie gets another major test. Dallas could put Williams against rookie cornerback Caleb Downs, creating one of the most interesting young-player matchups in the NFL. Sean believes Williams has the talent to become a major part of Washington's offense if he continues earning targets. The third matchup: Washington's defensive backs vs. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. This is the matchup Sean believes could decide the game. Mike Sainristil and Rasul Douglas will have their biggest challenge of the season against one of the most talented receiver groups in the NFL. CeeDee Lamb remains one of the league's most dangerous playmakers, and Sean expects George Pickens to bounce back after a disappointing Week 1 performance. If Washington's secondary makes mistakes, Dak Prescott and Dallas' receivers are talented enough to take advantage. The Commanders have opportunities to win this game. But these three matchups will determine whether Washington leaves Dallas with a victory or falls to 0-2 in the NFC East. Which matchup are you watching most? Let us know in the comments.
