Some Mischief, Some Mystery, and a Lot of Tape

Did you know the night before Halloween has its own name, and that one of America's most notorious unsolved murders happened on it? ...We looked into it. 🎃

Welcome to Valid Source? — the podcast where we investigate the internet myths, viral claims, and trending gossip you've been thinking about but haven't had time to research. We're not experts. We're just two friends willing to do the extra digging.

This episode: Harley introduces Mischief Night, and Ashley makes a teenage confession involving some stolen Halloween decorations (allegedly). Then Harley walks us through the 1975 murder of 15-year-old Martha Moxley in Greenwich, Connecticut: a golf club traced to one house, two brothers who changed their stories, witnesses from a school for troubled teens, and a conviction that was overturned, reinstated, then overturned again by one vote.

To lighten things up, we look into a passenger who reportedly got duct-taped to his seat on an American Airlines flight, and our first question is where the duct tape came from. Ashley admits her face would give her away on any jury, and Harley breaks down the Let's Marry Harry reunion. Because of course she watched the whole thing.

Valid Source? verdict on this episode: fifty years later, the Moxley case still has no answer anyone can stand behind, and we still don't know where that duct tape came from.

⚠️ Content Warning: This episode discusses the murder of a teenager, including details of her injuries, reported abuse at a residential school for troubled teens, and a drug overdose.
