The Stack: Absolute Batman, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, And More

WEBVTT
00:08.697 --> 00:10.798
[SPEAKER_02]: What's up everybody welcome to the stack on Alex.
00:11.278 --> 00:20.803
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Justin and on the stack we're talking about a bunch of books that have come out this week and review them so spoiler warnings on we're going to get a spoiler for We chat everything.
00:20.883 --> 00:22.423
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going deep on this.
00:22.503 --> 00:24.024
[SPEAKER_02]: We don't all back on this show.
00:24.384 --> 00:25.485
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we go pretty.
00:25.505 --> 00:27.786
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to skewer some comics right here.
00:27.826 --> 00:29.447
[SPEAKER_01]: We go get ready comics.
00:29.727 --> 00:30.247
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, burnt.
00:33.405 --> 00:53.441
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, we're going to be talking about actually back at number 23 from DC Comics, run by Scott Snyder, art by Nick Djurgot, a big thing's going down in this issue, as Batman battles the absolute version of Clayface with the Robin's stuck in the middle leading to a big tragedy involving one of them a death in the family.
00:53.581 --> 01:00.987
[SPEAKER_02]: If you will, just an every issue of this is a big old blockbuster, biggest selling title in the industry.
01:01.407 --> 01:04.449
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think this issue matches up to that hype?
01:07.771 --> 01:12.434
[SPEAKER_01]: It's big, it's big guys, it's big Batman, fighting big Batman.
01:12.594 --> 01:16.357
[SPEAKER_01]: And they certainly are trained in fist-to-cuffs.
01:16.777 --> 01:21.860
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got Scarecrow that is somehow involved in this story in the background.
01:22.361 --> 01:26.923
[SPEAKER_01]: I know that's been something that's bothering you a little bit, and even affected me with that complaint.
01:28.583 --> 01:40.591
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, first of all, I'm sorry about that, but second of all, yes, I it is weird to be every time I turn to the title page of this arc, and it's like Strowman part 15 and I'm like, what oh, we're still okay.
01:40.771 --> 01:43.672
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, and then most of the issue is not about that.
01:44.193 --> 01:46.694
[SPEAKER_02]: I really wish was focused on his scarecrow.
01:46.714 --> 01:48.655
[SPEAKER_02]: I get the point that you were making
01:49.536 --> 01:58.105
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was the last issue when we were talking about it that it is about these things that are bubbling in the background and how information is manipulated and all of that.
01:58.265 --> 01:59.106
[SPEAKER_02]: That's great.
01:59.166 --> 02:02.329
[SPEAKER_02]: I think when that does come up, it is very interesting.
02:02.369 --> 02:10.577
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a whole big cliffhanger that happened the last issue with Thomas Wayne, maybe being alive and everybody then tell him you're going
02:10.677 --> 02:11.137
[SPEAKER_02]: crazy.
02:11.197 --> 02:24.703
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a really nice sequence in here where Bruce is trying to make connections with the zoo and he's doing very similar to the Parabelium if I'm pronouncing that correctly arc from Batman Dark Patterns where he's like this pattern.
02:24.743 --> 02:24.963
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
02:24.983 --> 02:27.745
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the this pattern and this conspiracy theory and that's cool.
02:28.425 --> 02:30.466
[SPEAKER_02]: But then there's also a lot of other things going on.
02:30.927 --> 02:32.828
[SPEAKER_02]: There's all the stuff with the Becker Robbins.
02:32.888 --> 02:34.569
[SPEAKER_02]: There's the introduction of Clayface.
02:34.809 --> 02:42.174
[SPEAKER_02]: And that to me, I like all of these individual parts, but I agree, I believe you said, again, the last issue.
02:42.494 --> 02:43.995
[SPEAKER_02]: This is meant to be overwhelming.
02:44.556 --> 02:50.680
[SPEAKER_02]: It is overwhelming, but I do think for a story perspective, not for me, wow, this is a lot of stuff for Bruce Wayne.
02:51.268 --> 03:13.848
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and I do, I like the overwhelming nature of it, and I thought this, if the take is that fear in this, absolute world is in a morphist thing, and it's something that's coming at you at all times, and you can't tell where it's coming from and why, then that's, we see that reaction coming from Batman, so much in this, in this issue, and the,
03:14.448 --> 03:17.132
[SPEAKER_01]: the Joker sort of conspiracy that's been bubbling up.
03:17.653 --> 03:21.719
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was wild that the rogues are just showing up in full rogue.
03:21.859 --> 03:22.820
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, hey man, what's up?
03:22.961 --> 03:23.582
[SPEAKER_01]: We're hanging.
03:23.882 --> 03:24.743
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm penguin.
03:25.244 --> 03:26.125
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a penguin now.
03:27.848 --> 03:29.751
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're all like broken and twisted.
03:30.371 --> 03:32.493
[SPEAKER_02]: It is very weird when they show up.
03:32.614 --> 03:49.090
[SPEAKER_02]: I do like it, and I assume the point is Joker has all the good guys on his side, or who you traditionally think about as the good guys, the robins, and so Batman has the villains, or traditionally the villains on his side, and I think that's nice.
03:49.190 --> 03:49.390
[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
03:50.171 --> 04:01.239
[SPEAKER_02]: I have a re-confidence in this book and I have a confidence that has got builds towards the Joker arc, the inevitable Joker arc, that they're really going to pull this off and they're always very excited to pick this up.
04:01.739 --> 04:09.804
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, the funny thing is it just feels like scarecrow, the most interesting thing about this arc and the title of this arc is getting lost in the mix a little bit for me.
04:09.965 --> 04:10.345
[SPEAKER_02]: That's all.
04:10.992 --> 04:11.893
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I hear you.
04:11.993 --> 04:21.324
[SPEAKER_01]: I really like the robins though that have been created here and it's funny It's not a full flip where like the robins are bad and the villains are good Like the robins are still good.
04:21.384 --> 04:26.650
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just like misguided and the villains the tension of the villains that I feel like they could
04:27.631 --> 04:45.191
[SPEAKER_01]: Any or all of them could flip at any point and become full evil is right there And I think that's a good place for this to book to be like I think the reason why this is such a big book right now is it's just the best ride in comics There's so much going on.
04:45.311 --> 04:46.693
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a full
04:49.476 --> 05:04.457
[SPEAKER_01]: hanging upside down roller coaster that you're going on at six flags and you just don't know which direction the next turn is going to go and I think that's that's the point especially it's like a blockbuster comic that's what we're to celebrate blockbuster season.
05:04.903 --> 05:19.910
[SPEAKER_02]: Not to be too picky, but before we move on, what other little odd nitpick that I'll throw out there is Martha just showing up in this issue because previously she was left on maybe being killed by the court of owls several issues back and you're like, Oh, no, it's got a doctor or she dead.
05:19.950 --> 05:20.451
[SPEAKER_02]: She's alive.
05:20.811 --> 05:22.131
[SPEAKER_02]: And here she's like, Hey, what's up Bruce?
05:22.151 --> 05:24.252
[SPEAKER_02]: We really came to talk to you about a really that's going on.
05:24.272 --> 05:29.215
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's no reference really to that whatsoever other than you're in the court of owls.
05:29.655 --> 05:31.596
[SPEAKER_02]: And it felt like I missed an issue there.
05:31.736 --> 05:32.356
[SPEAKER_02]: So that was a
05:34.235 --> 05:36.377
[SPEAKER_01]: I like that she's also a source of tension.
05:36.577 --> 05:40.340
[SPEAKER_01]: She's so like down to earth and Martha Lee, but also like, I am an owl.
05:40.880 --> 05:43.302
[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm probably evil at some point.
05:43.885 --> 05:45.126
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I guess we'll see.
05:45.306 --> 05:52.712
[SPEAKER_02]: Next up, Miles Morales Spider-Man number one for Marvel, written by Brian Hill, art by Nico Leon Valentin Delanjo.
05:53.013 --> 05:59.238
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a back-to-basics approach for miles that mostly sticks him in school with Ganké.
05:59.318 --> 06:03.742
[SPEAKER_02]: He's got a new love interest potentially that he's going to take out on a tea date.
06:03.762 --> 06:09.206
[SPEAKER_02]: And meanwhile, there is a big honking dude with a huge energy axe who is coming for
06:13.109 --> 06:15.230
[SPEAKER_02]: further complicating his life as usual.
06:15.310 --> 06:17.151
[SPEAKER_02]: He's trying to be Spider-Man but not.
06:18.511 --> 06:19.632
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought this was great.
06:20.072 --> 06:22.313
[SPEAKER_01]: I read him on the live show.
06:22.373 --> 06:24.594
[SPEAKER_01]: You pitched forward on this book.
06:24.634 --> 06:27.795
[SPEAKER_01]: He said, I want this to be a good Miles book and I think you got your wish.
06:28.075 --> 06:31.737
[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is a the good Miles book we've been waiting for.
06:32.637 --> 06:35.238
[SPEAKER_01]: There are points in here where they're like, hey man, we sort out your powers.
06:35.258 --> 06:35.899
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't make sense.
06:35.939 --> 06:37.659
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, yes, you're right.
06:37.739 --> 06:38.980
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't quite make sense.
06:39.360 --> 06:41.201
[SPEAKER_01]: He does make a sword for no reason.
06:41.781 --> 06:45.226
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm glad that we're going to get to the bottom of some of these things.
06:45.866 --> 06:53.936
[SPEAKER_02]: The thing that I think Brian Held does really nicely this issue is run through all the insane continuity that's been going on with Biles for the past.
06:54.897 --> 06:56.199
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know the entire time.
06:56.239 --> 06:58.381
[SPEAKER_02]: The characters put around the marble universe, baby.
06:58.502 --> 07:01.165
[SPEAKER_01]: But especially lately, especially lately, I feel.
07:01.365 --> 07:10.512
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, even things like clearly doing a nod to, hey, we're probably going to have the trade on the stands the same time as when the next spiderverse movie comes out.
07:11.053 --> 07:16.758
[SPEAKER_02]: Spider-Man, 20 to 99, and spider, Gwen, showing off, they're like, hey, why don't you do this multi-versal thing and just like, no, thank you.
07:17.238 --> 07:18.499
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was like, that's great.
07:18.799 --> 07:19.840
[SPEAKER_02]: Have one page of that.
07:20.080 --> 07:20.841
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's move on.
07:20.941 --> 07:22.742
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get back to the good stuff, which is,
07:23.663 --> 07:46.698
[SPEAKER_02]: my not so hot take and I think this comes through nicely either the cover and also kind of in the art is I like Miles better what kind of a goofy little guy and they've made him too much into comics always do this for the like oh we got a goofy little guy you know what happened time jump he's a big old honking muscle the don't now and
07:47.598 --> 07:54.506
[SPEAKER_02]: even drawing him as a little smaller, like giving him a larger enemy, drawing a smaller than his dad, it thinks like that.
07:55.147 --> 08:01.414
[SPEAKER_02]: It's weird, but it means so much to me when you see it because you're like, oh, he's this little guy who's standing up against the entire world.
08:01.714 --> 08:04.157
[SPEAKER_02]: He's bringing his brightness and earnestness to everything.
08:04.597 --> 08:06.058
[SPEAKER_02]: the character really comes through.
08:06.078 --> 08:09.920
[SPEAKER_02]: And beyond Nicol Leon, I think you're a really good job with these characters.
08:09.940 --> 08:10.960
[SPEAKER_02]: I love the new girlfriend.
08:11.000 --> 08:11.920
[SPEAKER_02]: It's fun design.
08:12.601 --> 08:21.565
[SPEAKER_02]: Valentin Delanjo is one of my favorite most underrated artists and seeing a couple of pages there from them I thought was awesome.
08:22.618 --> 08:24.519
[SPEAKER_01]: It isn't just the villain here.
08:24.839 --> 08:29.360
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a bigger, it was a different swing I thought than the villain we were in and gay here.
08:29.580 --> 08:39.663
[SPEAKER_01]: And oddly reminiscent of Helgate, one of his, in the main amazing Spider-Man book is like Spider-Man's big swing villain that has become an enduring thing.
08:39.743 --> 08:47.065
[SPEAKER_01]: And a book we're gonna talk about and a little bit in the stack makes Helgate see more important than maybe he currently is in the continuity.
08:47.765 --> 09:05.060
[SPEAKER_01]: So this I was like, oh, an odd connection point, perhaps purposeful, perhaps accidental, I am curious how if this is going to be a big ongoing character or if it was just like a cool, big visual move to put in here, which I did enjoy for the first start.
09:05.842 --> 09:07.403
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but great start.
09:07.443 --> 09:10.465
[SPEAKER_02]: If you've been off miles for a while is a great issue to jump.
09:10.545 --> 09:11.425
[SPEAKER_02]: Good night.
09:11.806 --> 09:23.853
[SPEAKER_02]: And on next up, Transformers 35 from Skybound, an image comics written by Robert Kirkman, art by Jason Howard, in this issue, robots are doing whatever they can, you know, just like really trying.
09:25.265 --> 09:28.248
[SPEAKER_01]: Can we just insert a peat take on it?
09:28.268 --> 09:30.009
[SPEAKER_01]: How does this work here?
09:30.029 --> 09:34.353
[SPEAKER_01]: Because we learned in this issue that you can't put Decepticon parts into an Autobot.
09:34.753 --> 09:38.677
[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like you can't put Justin and Alex parts into a few different points.
09:38.697 --> 09:43.101
[SPEAKER_02]: I really, what I got to be honest with you, what I put this in the stack, I was like, I forgot peat, what was it going to be?
09:47.523 --> 09:48.823
[SPEAKER_02]: I wish I liked this more.
09:49.043 --> 09:51.344
[SPEAKER_02]: I get how I felt he is fine.
09:51.544 --> 09:54.245
[SPEAKER_02]: I generally like what Robert Kirkwood is doing.
09:54.365 --> 09:56.546
[SPEAKER_02]: Most of the time, but man, I just...
09:57.702 --> 09:58.563
[SPEAKER_02]: can't get into this.
09:58.583 --> 10:01.566
[SPEAKER_02]: It's so much business like you're hitting it out here.
10:02.107 --> 10:05.450
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and let me say, like, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
10:05.950 --> 10:11.937
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Robert Kirkman writes comics where there's a lot of business, and it's usually like an effective strategy.
10:12.597 --> 10:19.865
[SPEAKER_01]: I just think with this lately, the most interesting part to me is Optimus stripping himself of his prime status in giving that up.
10:20.365 --> 10:34.763
[SPEAKER_01]: that's interesting and I think this this book to me does need to like just quiet down a little bit and focus on a couple characters give us a very composed arc that is about like do a like a
10:39.468 --> 10:59.547
[SPEAKER_01]: A random star screen doing something and then another character doing something like one of the humans doing something Like something like something where we could really like dial in on and idea because it's so much busy And it's so much like just different transformers being like well actually the combatacons can't form their altar on the comaticon I'm like okay
11:01.797 --> 11:06.301
[SPEAKER_01]: I area, my mom told me that this morning, so like, I'm not gonna do this, okay.
11:06.901 --> 11:09.843
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, most of this is like, can I just, that's great.
11:09.863 --> 11:11.344
[SPEAKER_02]: Can I just play with your toys for a second?
11:11.544 --> 11:12.845
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay, exactly.
11:14.066 --> 11:21.692
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like you were going over to do a friend's house where they just finished like too many orange crushes.
11:21.712 --> 11:23.573
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, hey, you want to play with toys?
11:23.673 --> 11:24.914
[SPEAKER_01]: I have a million ideas.
11:24.954 --> 11:27.576
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, okay, I didn't drink as much so it is.
11:31.293 --> 11:41.580
[SPEAKER_01]: Let us see Beach Comer and it does make a lot of sense because if Autobots and Decepticons are like Subaru's and Toyota's, you can't put those parts in as far as I know someone who doesn't know how cars work.
11:42.140 --> 11:43.121
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you can do that.
11:44.532 --> 11:46.174
[SPEAKER_02]: Great, Pete never listened to this one.
11:46.454 --> 11:49.377
[SPEAKER_02]: Godzilla's monster piece theater is this one.
11:50.618 --> 11:52.619
[SPEAKER_02]: More of the worlds never want to provide you.
11:52.639 --> 11:56.783
[SPEAKER_02]: W by God, you'll Baker and Tom Schioli, this is the latest issue.
11:56.983 --> 12:05.291
[SPEAKER_02]: Mashing together classic literature and Godzilla this time for the Legend of self-cold Baker, and then there's a backup here about Robin Hood.
12:05.951 --> 12:07.893
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just a given your intro.
12:08.153 --> 12:09.194
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought this was great.
12:09.495 --> 12:10.556
[SPEAKER_02]: I really enjoyed this.
12:11.877 --> 12:34.074
[SPEAKER_02]: I was surprised though, I guess I shouldn't have been given it's Kyle Baker, how funny this is as Godzilla attacks World War II Japan and he just threads this absolutely ridiculous love triangle of the middle there, complete with like clown boy, all the way takes towards the camera and everything, it's so funny, I had such a good time reading this book.
12:34.677 --> 12:37.981
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, agree, and the war of the world's nature of it.
12:38.001 --> 12:43.266
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I want this to be a movie that was made in like 1977, you know.
12:43.947 --> 12:44.908
[SPEAKER_01]: It's really cool.
12:45.068 --> 12:49.213
[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle Bakers are is awesome and very like for as much as the comedy is in here.
12:49.253 --> 12:52.476
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's very specific style from Kyle Bakers.
12:52.496 --> 12:53.577
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we see like it.
12:54.338 --> 12:56.120
[SPEAKER_01]: Does have a very classic look to it.
12:56.661 --> 13:02.508
[SPEAKER_01]: It does feel like they old school movies Before we got into the modern era of Godzilla movies.
13:02.828 --> 13:09.957
[SPEAKER_01]: I love the design of the war of the world ships This was very very cool stories that I know and our sci-fi
13:11.038 --> 13:14.922
[SPEAKER_01]: tent poles, but the combined in a way that feels very fresh.
13:15.162 --> 13:22.929
[SPEAKER_01]: It felt very new even though even the human story lines were like plots we have seen in these movies, but it just really worked.
13:23.209 --> 13:24.491
[SPEAKER_01]: It really had come together.
13:24.991 --> 13:35.241
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like you're getting at, I think the thing that worked really nicely about this, even as Godzilla's fighting style, we've read a so many Godzilla books over the past couple of years, but just seeing Godzilla like
13:35.761 --> 14:01.957
[SPEAKER_02]: punching UFOs right in the face was a very fun visual and it does feel like those original Godzilla movies where it's a man in a suit and there's like UFOs and they're swinging out of string and all of these things which is very fun and also shout out to top show these back up story the Robin Hood story which I thought was very funny as well this is just a great series like all of these one shots I'm so glad they've kept to
14:04.864 --> 14:32.436
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and also this one specifically felt like that Godzilla thing of Godzilla felt like a just regular lizard that was mutated to a point, and this woke up was like, what the- Ah, why stop with the spaceships, and I like that version of Godzilla where we don't have to have a lot of plot on why Godzilla is doing something, it's just he was a regular lizard radio hit him, and then he emerged from the ocean of giant and wanted to smash the stuff that's bothering him.
14:34.408 --> 14:44.013
[SPEAKER_02]: Next up, it's time to head to the Kingdom of Zodd with Supergirl number 16 from DC Comics written by Sophie Campbell, Art by Joe Canone's and Paolo Villanelli.
14:44.633 --> 14:50.256
[SPEAKER_02]: I got to be honest, accidentally separated action comics for this, we should really probably talk about them.
14:50.296 --> 14:51.117
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he blocks.
14:52.237 --> 14:55.302
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because I'll just one big story action comics.
14:55.322 --> 15:06.097
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll mention now and then we'll show I'll speed through the cover later is by Mark Wade and Montos and the idea here is that Zod has taken over L. Call Dero.
15:06.357 --> 15:07.298
[SPEAKER_02]: Codero.
15:07.559 --> 15:08.140
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember.
15:08.800 --> 15:28.502
[SPEAKER_02]: on the kryptonite kingdom that was introduced over in Superman on the limited he doesn't have his powers because lowest lane has his powers which is one of the first things that he's doing here is get that power back but Superman is leading super girl excuse me is leading all of the super boys and others into Al-Qaardaro to
15:29.890 --> 15:32.131
[SPEAKER_02]: Save the city and take back the sunstone.
15:32.171 --> 15:34.193
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of continuity going out here.
15:34.433 --> 15:35.954
[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of things that are going down.
15:36.034 --> 15:37.455
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of characters that look very good.
15:37.475 --> 15:38.856
[SPEAKER_01]: I really got you there for a second.
15:39.616 --> 15:40.237
[SPEAKER_02]: It really did.
15:41.337 --> 15:43.199
[SPEAKER_02]: What do you think about this before I go into it?
15:44.800 --> 15:45.880
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's heavy.
15:46.200 --> 15:47.781
[SPEAKER_01]: It's there's a lot going on.
15:48.022 --> 15:50.923
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't mind that part of it.
15:51.924 --> 15:57.648
[SPEAKER_01]: But they're both sides of this fight are concerned with so many different little things.
15:59.949 --> 16:02.270
[SPEAKER_01]: The political structure of L. Colt Caldero.
16:02.851 --> 16:04.572
[SPEAKER_01]: Zad has very specific things.
16:05.072 --> 16:08.434
[SPEAKER_01]: I do like they were finally getting to the bottom of the Zad Lewis Lane.
16:08.594 --> 16:10.995
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the most interesting dramatic part to me here.
16:11.595 --> 16:20.180
[SPEAKER_01]: But there's so much like, all your force field actually runs out in this hour, like this does feel a little bit like transformers in that it's a lot of toys being an into each other.
16:20.640 --> 16:26.263
[SPEAKER_01]: But there are a lot of good story elements and characters underneath this story that I'm excited to follow.
16:27.177 --> 16:48.048
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think part of the problem for me, beyond the amount of story elements that are going out in both of these issues so far, it's just so many characters that are the same thing for the most part, like granted, I think the writers do a good job of delineating them and like coders wearing a jacket, so of course he's a totally different guy than Superboy Prime.
16:49.138 --> 16:59.063
[SPEAKER_02]: But then in the midst of this, the second issue superman returns and also the younger version of Superman who is Superboy, who's been at action comics is also here.
16:59.584 --> 17:07.888
[SPEAKER_02]: So there's like 15 guys, there's one sequence where I think it's Connor dresses up like Clark Kent and they draw up like Clark Kent.
17:08.688 --> 17:12.212
[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't know, I just don't want them all hanging out together.
17:12.252 --> 17:13.172
[SPEAKER_02]: It's bothering me.
17:13.232 --> 17:27.325
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I could deal with it when they're all hanging out in the cat department for family dinners or whatever, but it's too seemy when they're all doing the same thing and all in the same place and all running the same mission.
17:27.688 --> 17:43.388
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, in our title page, we get the breakdown of Superman missing an action tracks, and then they get super boy Clark Kent, young Superman from the past, super boy prime, super fan from the real world, and then super boy Kahnel, young clone of Superman and Lex Luther.
17:44.890 --> 17:48.073
[SPEAKER_01]: That alone, if you walked cold into this issue, you'd be like, say, what?
17:48.433 --> 17:54.218
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we get down to tomorrow, man, John Kent, son of Calel, also technically a super boy.
17:54.779 --> 17:56.981
[SPEAKER_01]: But an unrevealed super boy.
17:57.461 --> 18:06.830
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you also have Lena Luther, right, who, Conel calls sister at one point, I'm like, slow down.
18:07.811 --> 18:23.886
[SPEAKER_01]: and have like that's complicated in general here alone of her her brother not actually her brother but I want you to identify your family how you want but that's an unremarked just throw out of sister it's like I can
18:24.987 --> 18:50.611
[SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to be talking later on about Queen and Black in the stack and one of my criticisms there is this my least favorite type of event which is just like a big punchic event and that's pretty much it there's no it doesn't feel like there's a bigger idea there and so far I feel the same way with this I like in the super girl issue when she's nervous about okay can I step up and actually lead a team what do I do about that
18:50.831 --> 18:51.712
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's interesting.
18:51.732 --> 18:53.252
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a good emotional feed there.
18:53.673 --> 18:57.695
[SPEAKER_02]: But that immediately gets pushed to the side for like, oh, it's a bunch of time.
18:57.715 --> 18:59.776
[SPEAKER_02]: We're all punching our way through these punchies.
19:00.297 --> 19:01.257
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's it.
19:01.397 --> 19:05.860
[SPEAKER_02]: Like they're just a punch punch punch punch punch punch punch for an issue at a half at that point.
19:06.440 --> 19:17.089
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I do think there's an interesting discussion in that comparison you're making between this and Queen and Black, where this is like a get on the ride at the beginning, and we're just pushing through a pretty intense narrative.
19:17.550 --> 19:32.442
[SPEAKER_01]: The Queen and Black crossover that we'll talk about is very much a hub and spoke crossover, where it's like, there's the main story, and then there's all these spoke things that are happening, where you're like, oh, okay, I see where this relates slightly to this main thing.
19:33.183 --> 19:48.747
[SPEAKER_01]: where there's a big, goopy, goop-on, goop-brain tube that is the main central fighting thing and like they're very different feeling while still, they're differently structured while still feeling like, oh, I'm punching people over here, you're punching people over there.
19:50.227 --> 19:53.288
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well we'll see, we'll see what happens, what I'm moving on to.
19:54.787 --> 19:59.549
[SPEAKER_02]: We've heard a whole number ten for Marvel right by Philip Kennedy Johnson, art by Adam Goreham.
19:59.569 --> 20:06.093
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the final issue of this title before it heads into an event called Hulk War that is coming up next year.
20:06.293 --> 20:09.835
[SPEAKER_02]: And in this issue, it's mostly concerned with Bruce Banner and
20:11.389 --> 20:12.790
[SPEAKER_02]: Wait, is he Dr. Voodoo now?
20:13.371 --> 20:14.812
[SPEAKER_02]: What is Dr. Voodoo?
20:14.832 --> 20:14.892
[SPEAKER_02]: Dr.
20:14.912 --> 20:16.573
[SPEAKER_02]: He's been promoted from brother to doctor.
20:17.334 --> 20:22.097
[SPEAKER_02]: Dr. Voodoo, class R&D, and some sort of libbo type thing tribe to get bruises.
20:22.178 --> 20:25.100
[SPEAKER_02]: Hulk powers back, so you can fight back against the Fertal Hulk.
20:25.560 --> 20:32.786
[SPEAKER_02]: Meanwhile, we find out, Charlie, the skinwalker friend of Hulk, may have a weapon to use in the war against the Fertal Hulk.
20:33.286 --> 20:38.211
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I will say this title has been a little too heavy for me sometimes.
20:38.911 --> 20:40.633
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, this issue I thought was great.
20:40.853 --> 20:47.159
[SPEAKER_02]: Like just focused on Bruce focusing on Charlie instead of the infernal Hulk who is a character that we don't really know anything about.
20:47.179 --> 20:48.740
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I thought it was just a good.
20:49.140 --> 20:51.983
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just just evil end of end being nefarious.
20:52.383 --> 21:06.153
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, Phil Kennedy Johnson is always weaving larger stories and this, this is an issue where we get to see some of the, the final product sort of being exposed to us for the first time, which is always such a pleasure.
21:07.114 --> 21:15.260
[SPEAKER_01]: I like the, the, the riddle trick that they play to get a hulk body back and we've got ourselves a battle coming that is exciting.
21:15.970 --> 21:16.971
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
21:17.031 --> 21:17.191
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
21:17.211 --> 21:17.851
[SPEAKER_02]: This is cool.
21:18.312 --> 21:19.452
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about another one.
21:19.472 --> 21:28.619
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a big discussion on our Patreon discord because it has some pretty gross pretty not-safe for covers.
21:28.979 --> 21:34.523
[SPEAKER_02]: If you'd like to also talk about not-safe for covers, come hang out on the discord patreon.com slash comic book club.
21:34.963 --> 21:35.964
[SPEAKER_02]: But, Regicide.
21:36.064 --> 21:37.465
[SPEAKER_02]: Number one for the image comic book.
21:37.485 --> 21:38.446
[SPEAKER_01]: We are on my page framework.
21:39.106 --> 21:46.114
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, Patrick Kiddlin, Art by Ludovic Liliat, Promenoe S.O.
21:46.374 --> 21:48.636
[SPEAKER_02]: and Matt Pataglia.
21:48.776 --> 21:56.465
[SPEAKER_02]: This is about an old man and a Dr. Doom type, I think we can call him, who travel the land to kill a king.
21:58.753 --> 22:01.314
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yes, and, but I, I really liked this.
22:01.414 --> 22:08.338
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I haven't seen the, um, what is actually happening in the, uh, the discord yet.
22:08.358 --> 22:19.284
[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't seen the, uh, perhaps horrifying nature of the covers, uh, but I don't work, um, in an office, so I can be not safe all the time, uh, I think that's nice.
22:19.364 --> 22:22.746
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I love reading on the subway for everyone to take part in.
22:23.026 --> 22:24.547
[SPEAKER_01]: I bring a projector and project.
22:25.307 --> 22:30.094
[SPEAKER_01]: The nastiest things as much as I can, but for my story perspective, I thought this was cool.
22:30.134 --> 22:31.315
[SPEAKER_01]: I really like this idea.
22:31.756 --> 22:38.204
[SPEAKER_01]: The Dr. Doom looking guy reminded me of Dr. Doom, but didn't feel like it was a rip by any means.
22:38.364 --> 22:40.527
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's just like a battered iron mask.
22:40.667 --> 22:43.251
[SPEAKER_02]: I just, uh, I'm being cheeky, you know.
22:43.651 --> 22:50.261
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, but I think the character does is like sort of controlling the story, knows what's happening a little bit.
22:51.482 --> 23:00.055
[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought the art was really cool here, and I thought the story of this like reluctant killer was nicely, nicely done.
23:01.327 --> 23:08.290
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, one of the things that I actually really liked about it was just the multiple stories to be honest with you.
23:08.610 --> 23:20.474
[SPEAKER_02]: I was okay with the made story, but then when I saw it was more about like these Conan types wandering the land, I thought that was pretty cool, it got me more into it.
23:21.134 --> 23:28.717
[SPEAKER_02]: And also by the art style, the first story was a little sketchier while some of the other ones were a little more classic adventure
23:32.079 --> 23:38.627
[SPEAKER_01]: And I love the way that it's like the corruption of power and magic that we're getting here and combining them.
23:39.068 --> 23:47.758
[SPEAKER_01]: Our main guys get to fight like a queen or princess who turns out to be a big old centipede, which I thought was good.
23:48.650 --> 23:51.412
[SPEAKER_02]: Every queen, you know, that was Queen Elizabeth too.
23:51.452 --> 23:53.232
[SPEAKER_02]: She was also a big old centipede.
23:53.553 --> 24:06.219
[SPEAKER_02]: Why don't we turn to the diametrically an opposite book, Hello Kitty and Friends, Hello World, number one from I-D-W written by Mariko Tamaki, art by Cody Lamma.
24:06.379 --> 24:15.444
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, normally, to be honest, I would not have included the stack because this certainly delves even further into all ages that we usually go.
24:15.664 --> 24:16.085
[SPEAKER_02]: But,
24:16.885 --> 24:25.748
[SPEAKER_02]: this title sold huge sold 75,000 copies reportedly so it's a huge hit and I was curious to be like, what is it?
24:25.828 --> 24:29.329
[SPEAKER_02]: Is it something that is worth our time and checking out?
24:29.609 --> 24:31.490
[SPEAKER_02]: So, what are you think Justin?
24:32.350 --> 24:45.920
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I happened to be reading this with my children being right there and boy did they like this and they were like, wait, are they gonna introduce Senate, Senate bond?
24:46.941 --> 24:47.581
[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, whatever.
24:48.162 --> 24:57.288
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, wait a second, then they were like, yup, and they were like, what about Karpiko or whatever, and they were like, yup, so like, we got all of them.
24:58.750 --> 25:01.812
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God, we got the book as we got them.
25:02.644 --> 25:09.309
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, truly it was, it was like, there's no way we're going to get to see the next one.
25:09.870 --> 25:13.292
[SPEAKER_02]: How did you feel about the fact that Hello Kitty is doing a podcast right now?
25:13.312 --> 25:15.554
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you feel like she's biting our style a little bit?
25:17.936 --> 25:23.680
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the fact that it's like a murder podcast about like who like was not the nicest friend.
25:23.760 --> 25:26.422
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, okay, we're already doing that.
25:28.616 --> 25:30.136
[SPEAKER_02]: I actually thought it was pretty funny.
25:30.476 --> 25:38.438
[SPEAKER_02]: I am not a hello kitty, understander at all, but I thought the art style was actually very cute in here.
25:38.598 --> 25:48.280
[SPEAKER_02]: I do think having her do a podcast updated at a dicey, and it was, it's definitely aimed at younger readers because like you were saying, it's like, let's meet this character.
25:48.400 --> 25:51.601
[SPEAKER_02]: And now let's meet this character, but they're all very cute characters.
25:51.681 --> 25:52.561
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're very cute.
25:52.601 --> 25:54.962
[SPEAKER_01]: Popoprene was a pleasant surprise.
25:57.202 --> 26:01.446
[SPEAKER_01]: major part of my life as a father, so I'm definitely dealing with that.
26:02.546 --> 26:05.909
[SPEAKER_01]: And where we find out who took the Blue Ribbon is the real question.
26:06.349 --> 26:06.630
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
26:06.670 --> 26:08.991
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll have to check out next issue to find out.
26:10.052 --> 26:16.897
[SPEAKER_02]: Next up, another one, I wasn't sure if we should be talking about, but I threw it in any way, X-Men 35 from Marvel, written by Jen McKenzie.
26:16.917 --> 26:18.839
[SPEAKER_02]: Why shouldn't we be talking about this, Daniel?
26:19.239 --> 26:25.484
[SPEAKER_02]: We've been kind of very on and off about this title, because I think we've hit a run where we're like,
26:25.976 --> 26:26.957
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about this.
26:26.997 --> 26:28.918
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how much I have to say about this book.
26:29.538 --> 26:38.984
[SPEAKER_02]: I am we were definitely getting very negative about it, so I pulled it out of the stack, put it back in the last month because there was the Junker North Focus, which I thought was interesting.
26:39.444 --> 26:45.048
[SPEAKER_02]: This one we're almost definitely going to be talking about DNX, which is the upcoming X-Men Fantastic Fort across over.
26:45.368 --> 26:49.130
[SPEAKER_02]: And let us know in the comments how many crossovers are too many crossovers for you.
26:49.310 --> 26:50.051
[SPEAKER_02]: I'd love to know.
26:50.471 --> 26:51.612
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it's this many.
26:52.132 --> 26:55.036
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, talk to the world, talk to the comic industry, I guess.
26:55.056 --> 26:55.978
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I think so.
26:56.779 --> 27:02.947
[SPEAKER_02]: But regardless, we're getting two issues of prelude to the DNX Cross over kicking off here, so I thought it was worth checking in.
27:03.588 --> 27:06.853
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll tell you what, I did love everything in this issue, but
27:07.734 --> 27:14.279
[SPEAKER_02]: I was reminded, as I am often reminded, Jim McKay is not a bad writer by any means.
27:14.339 --> 27:20.683
[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, he's a really good writer when he's focusing in on very specific characters and their arcs.
27:21.364 --> 27:28.969
[SPEAKER_02]: And in particular, there is a scene in this issue with Beast and Magic talking outside of the X-Men's compound.
27:29.490 --> 27:31.911
[SPEAKER_02]: Where Beast is wrestling the fact that he has been
27:32.852 --> 27:49.764
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a crazy complicated continuity as X-Men always is, but the short version is that beast kind of what evil back in the Koadays ostensibly died as far as we knew, but also in order to stop him as teammates created a clone for a backup for back what he was nice.
27:50.564 --> 28:00.951
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, that evil beast is back and calling himself the chairman and our beast who is ostensibly the nicer beast knows that, but he's like, oh my god, that's me down the line.
28:02.250 --> 28:04.111
[SPEAKER_02]: What happens if I turn evil?
28:04.892 --> 28:06.312
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, the other crazy thing.
28:06.332 --> 28:07.933
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, God.
28:07.953 --> 28:08.513
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, finish it.
28:08.613 --> 28:20.580
[SPEAKER_02]: No, just to finish up, I was going to say it's like and he calls on magic because like you've dealt with this you've gone evil how do you deal with the fact that like you have seen your worst self and I just thought
28:22.295 --> 28:37.495
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a crazy plot line as X-Men stuff always is, like I just said, but dialing in on those two characters, finding a connection with them that I wouldn't have necessarily expected and making it just a really good, quiet character scene before a bombastic crossover I thought was really nice.
28:38.681 --> 28:39.081
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
28:39.142 --> 28:40.283
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought this was.
28:40.303 --> 28:48.790
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think I really like Gen McKay's writing, but you can like a writer, but not be like the tone of a story.
28:48.810 --> 28:53.454
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the X-Men main book has been such a negative vibe to me.
28:54.535 --> 28:55.816
[SPEAKER_01]: for a lot of the run.
28:56.296 --> 29:00.999
[SPEAKER_01]: So, but there are definitely certain issues that pop up and pop off that I really enjoy.
29:01.700 --> 29:16.388
[SPEAKER_01]: Like the one with Doug Ramsey from like right before the revelation crossover, where we were just focused on him, his wife, who he later killed, tragically, but like I really like that standalone issue that they had there.
29:16.869 --> 29:21.811
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is another one of those issues where the conversation is great between Hank and Eliana.
29:22.952 --> 29:46.807
[SPEAKER_01]: what I was interrupted you to say is like it's crazy that there's the dark beast from age of apocalypse who is still technically wandering around right yeah i think so and then there's now a second dark beast who's just the the clone rip or i guess our our Hank is the clone rip and it's like what why are we clone why do you have so many beasts each of them eat is it beast always going to become evil
29:47.592 --> 29:49.633
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I guess that's what they're playing with.
29:49.733 --> 29:55.474
[SPEAKER_02]: It would be really weird and interesting if they brought in dark beast here to have three beasts at the same time.
29:55.514 --> 29:56.554
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they do that.
29:58.715 --> 29:59.475
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I don't know.
29:59.515 --> 30:06.497
[SPEAKER_02]: Like we're saying, I mean, I think the Doug Ramsay issue also is a great example where it was like, hey, let's have a character driven issue where we really focus in.
30:07.077 --> 30:10.518
[SPEAKER_02]: of these couple of characters and see what they're thinking of, in a case, really good at that.
30:11.298 --> 30:22.522
[SPEAKER_02]: And it makes it more of a bummer to me that I don't like this X-bed rod more, because that part is so good, and that should be core to X-bed, and I think totally,
30:23.562 --> 30:29.852
[SPEAKER_02]: He's probably seated that to Galsamone over on on Caddy X-Men to be like, no, you're the emotional X-Men.
30:30.293 --> 30:32.636
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the cold calculating strike force X-Men.
30:33.397 --> 30:36.422
[SPEAKER_02]: When actually, he should also be writing the emotional X-Men.
30:36.462 --> 30:38.485
[SPEAKER_02]: They should all be writing the emotional X-Men.
30:38.986 --> 30:42.388
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is missing that emotional quotient as a whole.
30:42.488 --> 30:44.930
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this issue does a commendable job of bringing it back.
30:44.970 --> 30:46.391
[SPEAKER_01]: So I hope this is what continues.
30:47.031 --> 30:54.315
[SPEAKER_01]: Because I also like a lot of the story elements of this run, like Quentin running like their sidecombs.
30:54.335 --> 30:56.717
[SPEAKER_01]: So like, hey, sidecombs on and they just like dialed it.
30:56.737 --> 30:57.757
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was really cool.
30:58.098 --> 30:59.618
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of cool ideas here.
30:59.698 --> 31:06.683
[SPEAKER_01]: Juggernaut as a character that is become sort of the emotional core of the team or at least like the heart of the team, I guess.
31:07.683 --> 31:12.230
[SPEAKER_01]: is a really interesting idea even though he is a villain who just runs into stuff.
31:14.092 --> 31:17.057
[SPEAKER_01]: I think this team still is trying to find an identity.
31:17.497 --> 31:22.364
[SPEAKER_01]: The revelation crossover felt like it gave them a mission with this like trying to stop that.
31:23.125 --> 31:43.140
[SPEAKER_01]: reality from happening and the twist of it being this bad beast that was in the future I thought was really cool But maybe this is the time when this crossover will be a time to really give them not only the mission statement But also the underlying Heart and emotion that we're asking for yeah
31:44.155 --> 32:02.341
[SPEAKER_02]: One last little thoughed so the previous issue juggernaut finds this statue to it wasn't great and creed wasn't it was some Some mutant racist trash maybe it was trash Bolivar trash Bolivar trash and he tries to break it and he can't break through it.
32:02.421 --> 32:05.942
[SPEAKER_02]: The other X bed try to break it and he can't break through that's kind of where they had there.
32:06.473 --> 32:16.177
[SPEAKER_02]: this issue there's like one thing where they're walking through the compound and I don't remember who cyclops is talking to but he's talking to somebody is like and also we couldn't break that statue and that's where we should come back to that later anyway.
32:16.778 --> 32:21.220
[SPEAKER_01]: That's like okay that's called keeping the balloon in the air my man.
32:21.240 --> 32:21.520
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
32:23.068 --> 32:23.729
[SPEAKER_02]: 100%.
32:24.890 --> 32:36.900
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, what do we move on, talk about the next book, which is Umea00x number one from Image Comics, written by Doug Wagner, art by Huit, Silver.
32:38.481 --> 32:40.843
[SPEAKER_02]: How best to describe this book?
32:41.103 --> 32:43.245
[SPEAKER_02]: I think, I think what this is going.
32:43.665 --> 32:55.691
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what I think this is going for here is one of the bad girl who James Bond Romance's every movie was like, James, I love you and you love me, where did you go?
32:56.497 --> 33:09.392
[SPEAKER_02]: She breaks into MI6, destroys MI6 in this book, finds James Bond's AI-powered talking car and goes after him to find out where he is, but also at the same time she's kind of
33:14.077 --> 33:25.841
[SPEAKER_02]: So, there's a lot of things that are going into the mix here, but mostly there's just a bunch of insane comedy ultraviolence would paired with some psychedelic art throughout.
33:26.621 --> 33:28.061
[SPEAKER_02]: I actually thought this was a lot of fun.
33:28.141 --> 33:28.741
[SPEAKER_02]: What did you think?
33:29.522 --> 33:30.022
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
33:30.262 --> 33:36.724
[SPEAKER_01]: This comic reading it that what's throughout the most is the amount of like pop culture references they're making very directly.
33:38.566 --> 33:58.064
[SPEAKER_01]: Like we get some Montagey things with like literal memes, just sort of dropped in here, you get Barack Obama, you get Jean Luc Picard, you get Willy Wonka, I was like, oh wow, there's the song lyrics are a big part of this.
33:58.425 --> 34:01.328
[SPEAKER_01]: So that was interesting to pin it so firmly in sort of
34:02.428 --> 34:03.409
[SPEAKER_01]: right now culture.
34:04.109 --> 34:16.274
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was a little strange, but once we were sort of dialed into the genre, they're like the back half of the issue when she is getting the her car.
34:16.594 --> 34:21.416
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was awesome and her like dealing with the queue character was cool.
34:22.827 --> 34:24.647
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there should be an interesting one to follow.
34:25.047 --> 34:29.008
[SPEAKER_02]: I recently talked to Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard for our podcast.
34:29.028 --> 34:30.148
[SPEAKER_02]: So go and listen to it.
34:30.168 --> 34:31.169
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's in the feed.
34:31.209 --> 34:34.909
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm actually losing track of what we're putting up and when so much talking.
34:35.389 --> 34:39.370
[SPEAKER_02]: So much talking, but very interesting guy to talk to.
34:39.630 --> 34:41.130
[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't talk as much about this one.
34:41.150 --> 34:44.331
[SPEAKER_02]: We talked more about their upcoming Kickstarter project that they're working on.
34:44.351 --> 34:45.611
[SPEAKER_02]: But we didn't touch on this a little bit.
34:46.091 --> 34:47.111
[SPEAKER_02]: So go check that out.
34:50.252 --> 34:55.797
[SPEAKER_02]: Colts disack number one from ignition press written by Colin Bun are from Fico Oceo.
34:55.817 --> 35:01.822
[SPEAKER_02]: This is about a family that moves to a new house on a cold sack only to find out that per the title.
35:02.722 --> 35:08.107
[SPEAKER_02]: There is a cult there and they're really not prepared for that and it's a big old butter for them.
35:09.936 --> 35:38.382
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the cover gives away some of the stuff from the end of the issue in a way that that kind of stuff doesn't usually bother me, but it did and this one a little bit The good dread is created here, but man, the real takeaway here is read the your user agreements Yeah Because this what is very much like the bad guy of this is like it's in the covenants We gave you the covenants and they're like, oh, we should read we should get around to reading these covenants
35:39.722 --> 35:45.726
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, they don't, and pretty much everything is like, you can't play on the yard and they're like, why can't we play on the yard?
35:45.866 --> 35:47.707
[SPEAKER_02]: It's in the confidence every single time.
35:47.807 --> 35:56.212
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, at a certain point, I assume this is maybe not purposeful, but at a certain point I was like, these people are dumb.
35:56.332 --> 35:57.993
[SPEAKER_02]: They brought this on themselves.
35:58.093 --> 35:59.034
[SPEAKER_02]: This is their fault.
35:59.354 --> 36:00.695
[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever happens next.
36:01.035 --> 36:07.460
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to be like these the victims being like he this is their fault Very much, but I think we do get there.
36:07.780 --> 36:10.462
[SPEAKER_01]: I was a cult dissac is a great name now.
36:10.822 --> 36:12.023
[SPEAKER_01]: Shout out to credit the sack
36:12.822 --> 36:13.002
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
36:13.602 --> 36:22.026
[SPEAKER_02]: Shouts to that that man in the art Robin year one dynamic to us number one from TC comics written by Mark Wade art by Chris Samney.
36:22.046 --> 36:23.987
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a sequel series to the previous series.
36:24.007 --> 36:35.892
[SPEAKER_02]: They did now we are getting it or we start to get this issue a parallel between Batman and Robin early in their careers together with Catwoman and a young prodigy of her own.
36:36.672 --> 36:40.073
[SPEAKER_02]: Feet going to be going throughout this series.
36:40.093 --> 36:41.614
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what more do you want?
36:41.654 --> 36:42.334
[SPEAKER_02]: It's Mark Wade.
36:42.374 --> 36:43.235
[SPEAKER_02]: It's Krebs Samney.
36:43.275 --> 36:44.355
[SPEAKER_02]: They work great together.
36:44.395 --> 36:45.415
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a great looking book.
36:45.455 --> 36:47.136
[SPEAKER_02]: It's fun Robin, fun Batman.
36:47.836 --> 36:48.537
[SPEAKER_02]: Have a good time.
36:49.577 --> 36:51.978
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a real pick me up of a read.
36:52.098 --> 36:56.960
[SPEAKER_01]: Just like good old fun with great art and
36:58.026 --> 37:17.823
[SPEAKER_01]: some classic Batman Robin classic catwoman wardrobe for the fans of that out here and a new character like Mark Wade is able to come in and feel like a comforting blanket while also giving you something that does feel new and different and that's what you want in a comic I think.
37:19.161 --> 37:20.883
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just great stuff.
37:21.504 --> 37:26.289
[SPEAKER_02]: There's not too much to say about it other than fun scenes, beautiful art from Chris Samney.
37:26.770 --> 37:29.533
[SPEAKER_02]: You kind of know what you're getting with this team at this point.
37:30.134 --> 37:32.296
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's move to our Queen in block.
37:33.197 --> 37:33.998
[SPEAKER_02]: Our, yeah.
37:34.018 --> 37:35.740
[SPEAKER_02]: And then stack, I don't know.
37:35.760 --> 37:37.222
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think we've been in a decision there yet.
37:37.362 --> 37:38.844
[SPEAKER_02]: I keep saying both confusing.
37:41.812 --> 37:43.753
[SPEAKER_02]: also confusing this event.
37:44.214 --> 37:56.682
[SPEAKER_02]: So what do we talk about two books, Queen and Black Thor, number one, for Marvel Written by Alan Ewing, art by Sergio DeVia, and then following that, we'll talk about Venom 260 from Marvel Written by Alan Ewing, once again, art by Carlos Govaz.
37:57.242 --> 38:01.245
[SPEAKER_02]: The first issue is supposed to be peer paired with Queen and Black, hella,
38:01.645 --> 38:05.168
[SPEAKER_02]: but this basically has nothing to do with that and status showing us.
38:05.688 --> 38:16.036
[SPEAKER_02]: Two stories, one of Beta Rae Bill and one of SIGERD Charleston, the mortal Thor, and showing with their relation is to death as Beta Rae Bill fights.
38:16.597 --> 38:18.238
[SPEAKER_02]: Turr, if I remember correctly.
38:18.258 --> 38:18.859
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, dude.
38:19.519 --> 38:32.625
[SPEAKER_02]: The cigarette fights kind of or is egged on by hella and we get that page to page back to back as it goes Sure, what's a lot going on in this issue just it?
38:36.547 --> 38:38.928
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes Sorry, hold on.
38:40.169 --> 38:41.549
[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, that's okay.
38:41.609 --> 38:42.690
[SPEAKER_02]: I keep talking about it
38:44.246 --> 38:44.926
[SPEAKER_01]: I can talk now.
38:45.126 --> 38:46.047
[SPEAKER_01]: I think I back.
38:46.507 --> 38:48.087
[SPEAKER_01]: I actually really enjoyed this.
38:48.247 --> 38:48.967
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought really.
38:49.307 --> 38:55.269
[SPEAKER_01]: In this event, this was a cool story about two different ideas that we're speaking to each other.
38:55.689 --> 39:08.712
[SPEAKER_01]: We have Sigurd dealing with just like being a guy on the street hero who's dealing with the death of a single human and he's trying to prevent a kid from dying in a fire and hell is there watching him
39:14.453 --> 39:24.195
[SPEAKER_01]: And then on the other side, you have Turr tempting Baderay Bill, who is who's whole culture, whose entire plan it was killed by Galactus, a massive death.
39:24.415 --> 39:27.696
[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, don't you want to set that from happening, join our side.
39:28.376 --> 39:41.279
[SPEAKER_01]: And you get to see them both be heroes in sort of the most micro and macro way possible at the same time, sort of conquering death and the spell of death in two very different ways.
39:44.560 --> 39:48.902
[SPEAKER_01]: about like, we're not afraid of death as humans or as souls.
39:49.142 --> 39:54.564
[SPEAKER_01]: We are afraid of the chill, the cold patch that is left after a death.
39:55.024 --> 40:06.769
[SPEAKER_01]: Now that was really cool and poignant and just like in the midst of a sort of complicated crossover to have a an issue that really speaks to something larger was, was a master stroke I thought.
40:07.347 --> 40:07.788
[SPEAKER_02]: all right.
40:08.709 --> 40:10.291
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm glad it worked for you.
40:10.311 --> 40:11.813
[SPEAKER_02]: Why don't we talk about it?
40:12.354 --> 40:17.120
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, well, your absence is a coldness like death in the past.
40:17.140 --> 40:17.881
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't know.
40:17.981 --> 40:23.108
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, not to talk about it when we've already switched over to the other issue, but I think part of the
40:24.349 --> 40:35.613
[SPEAKER_02]: Part of the thing for me is I'm enjoying the story of Sigurd Jarlson and to have to go back and forth between the two things, even though I understood they were parallel and they were showing these parallel journeys.
40:36.133 --> 40:38.534
[SPEAKER_02]: I was interested in what's happening with Sigurd Jarlson.
40:38.554 --> 40:48.717
[SPEAKER_02]: The other thing was just crazy dense and said ago from crazy dense to a little sparse or to crazy dense to a little sparse or was a very fractured reading experience for me.
40:48.757 --> 40:49.137
[SPEAKER_02]: That's all.
40:49.919 --> 41:03.037
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what about Vettam though, which follows Dylan Brock from the beginning of this event all the way to his current continuity, but it also jumps back and gives it entire history through Vettam so far.
41:03.438 --> 41:06.322
[SPEAKER_02]: How did you feel about this was this also a master stroke?
41:07.974 --> 41:13.435
[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't call it a master stroke, perhaps, but I did also enjoy this, like, wow.
41:13.955 --> 41:26.158
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought this was like a well-done version of really giving some story-powered Dylan Brock a character that, at least lately, has been a little bit of just like an angsty kid who's mad at everyone.
41:27.518 --> 41:31.979
[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, Paul, who later died, leading behind just his little hair bun.
41:33.179 --> 41:42.963
[SPEAKER_01]: But here we have him really dealing grappling with a lot of his emotional issues with his dad We touch on some sort of future casting.
41:42.983 --> 41:56.788
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the issue that featured Some tipping of the story of hellgate coming back and like killing everyone essentially sounds like so I thought that was interesting And you know what the idea of
41:57.793 --> 42:04.778
[SPEAKER_01]: Just King and Black Queen and Black and Venom as a thing being such a big universal saga.
42:05.458 --> 42:07.300
[SPEAKER_01]: Still doesn't quite ring true to me.
42:07.340 --> 42:08.561
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a strange idea.
42:09.601 --> 42:13.364
[SPEAKER_01]: Because really, Venom is just a symbiote that is a huge spider fan.
42:14.345 --> 42:18.208
[SPEAKER_01]: Venom's just like, someone was like, I love this dude I met once.
42:19.108 --> 42:22.291
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna be like him and make everything like him.
42:22.771 --> 42:23.652
[SPEAKER_01]: He won't be at it.
42:23.692 --> 42:24.612
[SPEAKER_02]: It was cool.
42:25.073 --> 42:26.234
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we've all been there.
42:26.294 --> 42:31.318
[SPEAKER_01]: We've all been the guy we've all been clearing another cool, cool person.
42:33.076 --> 42:42.300
[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know, but I did, I think this story, both of these stories are existing well in this much larger and more ridiculous crossover.
42:42.600 --> 42:56.305
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me just say the last thing I'll say is, the fact that we keep cutting back to this, like, and let's remember that there's a big brain in a jar that's also a venom, and, oh, Dylan's in the jar now, and that's like the main plot.
42:56.345 --> 42:57.526
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, no, thank you.
42:58.026 --> 42:59.867
[SPEAKER_01]: Tell me more of these emotional stories.
43:00.487 --> 43:09.835
[SPEAKER_02]: That was I had two problems with this and I agree with you in general that is a Separate history one shot of Dylan Brock like they're doing it.
43:09.855 --> 43:19.723
[SPEAKER_02]: I've spent also this crossover anyway They could have done that um Dylan Brock or whatever Zero and that would have been fine, but yes framing it around.
43:19.743 --> 43:21.244
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be like and he's in this coupé
43:23.685 --> 43:24.106
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
43:24.126 --> 43:33.068
[SPEAKER_02]: There's no forward momentum in the story there other than like, oh, he stuck in this coupette, but you know before that, there was a man with candle hands who grabbed him.
43:33.848 --> 43:37.209
[SPEAKER_02]: And oh, now he's back in this coupette, I don't know.
43:37.249 --> 43:39.190
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't like candle fingers as a character.
43:39.270 --> 43:40.450
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a king.
43:41.090 --> 43:43.091
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I do love big hands.
43:43.331 --> 43:46.852
[SPEAKER_02]: As a DC fan, I'm a huge fan of hands, just reaching
43:52.675 --> 43:55.078
[SPEAKER_02]: I also didn't like the fact that the rest don't focus on Barry Jane.
43:55.318 --> 43:58.743
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what this title is about, it is Barry Jane as Venom.
43:58.783 --> 44:08.354
[SPEAKER_02]: We have very few issues of that left, and it's a bummer to be in the middle of this crossover that like, we got an issue that was just stasis, you know?
44:09.061 --> 44:17.852
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, though I will see if they're trying to loop in King and Black fans with Queen and Black, like Mary Jane was in Venom there and it was all about the Brox.
44:18.152 --> 44:21.336
[SPEAKER_01]: And it just feels like we're in the Brox zone.
44:22.457 --> 44:26.041
[SPEAKER_01]: Beware of falling Brox, because that's what's happening in this event.
44:27.133 --> 44:35.738
[SPEAKER_01]: But like I said earlier like this event is such a like hub and spoke event where these two stories There's not a lot of forward momentum.
44:35.758 --> 44:56.328
[SPEAKER_01]: There's their interesting stories with a lot of emotional resonance But the plot literally does not move forward of the main event, which is this like Jar whiskey in the jarrow Situation with Dylan Brock So basically in summation you think this queen in rocks and I think they should be queen in blocked
44:57.145 --> 45:03.874
[SPEAKER_01]: What now now you're a several iterations away.
45:04.735 --> 45:11.743
[SPEAKER_02]: Exquisite corpse is rascal Randy number two from tiny idea that image comics written by Tyler boss art by Dylan Burnett.
45:11.784 --> 45:14.247
[SPEAKER_02]: We are diving potentially into the backstory.
45:14.647 --> 45:19.149
[SPEAKER_02]: of one of the masked killers from the exquisite corpses tournament.
45:19.649 --> 45:21.650
[SPEAKER_02]: He is a giant mascot.
45:22.691 --> 45:28.693
[SPEAKER_02]: And here we spend a lot of time on the origin of the Rascal Randy character throughout history.
45:29.013 --> 45:32.415
[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know quite how it connects to a killer in the modern day yet.
45:32.815 --> 45:34.956
[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm really enjoying this.
45:35.296 --> 45:37.037
[SPEAKER_02]: I've got the last issue.
45:37.688 --> 45:38.269
[SPEAKER_02]: was great.
45:38.389 --> 45:41.272
[SPEAKER_02]: I was surprised how much time was spent on flashback here.
45:41.312 --> 45:49.580
[SPEAKER_02]: This issue, but both sides of the story, the modern story where these kids are investigated the mystery of who this base killer is.
45:49.860 --> 45:50.481
[SPEAKER_02]: Very fun.
45:50.521 --> 45:52.803
[SPEAKER_02]: The flashback, very dark and very fun.
45:52.823 --> 45:54.024
[SPEAKER_02]: It's really good stuff.
45:54.915 --> 45:58.717
[SPEAKER_01]: Great art, I feel like, love the classic.
45:58.777 --> 46:02.939
[SPEAKER_01]: Look versus the modern look as we're doing both these stories at the same time.
46:04.159 --> 46:06.961
[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't think I was gonna love just this.
46:07.201 --> 46:09.202
[SPEAKER_01]: Exclusive corpses, massive story.
46:09.622 --> 46:16.425
[SPEAKER_01]: We're dialing in on one particular killer and telling like a pretty deep mythological story about how this happened.
46:17.246 --> 46:19.207
[SPEAKER_01]: It all comes back to stolen IP, man.
46:19.867 --> 46:35.458
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't really fucks people up, dude, we can't take that IP at the end of the day, but you were getting definitely a younger killer who's going to be revealed in the next issue.
46:35.890 --> 46:36.050
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
46:36.731 --> 46:37.291
[SPEAKER_02]: So this is great.
46:37.492 --> 46:42.937
[SPEAKER_02]: And you can read this even if you are reading exquisite corpses, which is the one of the other things that I think is very nice about it.
46:43.537 --> 46:45.099
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about another IP.
46:45.139 --> 46:46.900
[SPEAKER_02]: We love IP here on the show.
46:47.080 --> 46:54.447
[SPEAKER_02]: The Twilight Zone, number 10 from IDW written by Charles and Rosemary Sol, art by Sean Peacock.
46:54.828 --> 46:59.152
[SPEAKER_02]: This is about two girls at a frat party who find it underground tunnel.
46:59.752 --> 47:03.213
[SPEAKER_02]: and follow it all the way to the end, where do they go?
47:03.354 --> 47:04.414
[SPEAKER_02]: Why is it there?
47:04.454 --> 47:06.735
[SPEAKER_02]: That's something that they find out by the end of the story.
47:07.515 --> 47:10.336
[SPEAKER_02]: We would check you in here and there are these Twilight Zone books.
47:10.456 --> 47:12.837
[SPEAKER_02]: Every time I'm like, oh, there's a really good team on this.
47:12.857 --> 47:13.678
[SPEAKER_02]: We would take a look.
47:14.078 --> 47:16.539
[SPEAKER_02]: And here, of course, we like Charles Sole.
47:16.579 --> 47:19.260
[SPEAKER_02]: I was just to see that he was ready with, I believe, his wife.
47:19.880 --> 47:20.901
[SPEAKER_02]: on this book.
47:21.181 --> 47:22.622
[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought this one was really fun.
47:22.642 --> 47:24.724
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought they captured the twilight's own vibe.
47:24.804 --> 47:25.505
[SPEAKER_02]: Really nicely.
47:25.525 --> 47:27.466
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a story I was not expecting.
47:27.506 --> 47:29.688
[SPEAKER_02]: It was pretty funny at points as well.
47:30.028 --> 47:30.449
[SPEAKER_02]: Good stuff.
47:31.311 --> 47:36.495
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, great art, great art to fail of the era of the original show.
47:37.855 --> 47:47.562
[SPEAKER_01]: Fun premise, I feel like capturing so much of the Twilight Zone is like more supernatural or more like twisty look at something.
47:47.762 --> 47:54.146
[SPEAKER_01]: This was like one of the mortar, more harder sci-fi versions of it, but they did those in the original show.
47:54.166 --> 47:55.967
[SPEAKER_01]: There's not the ones we remember as much.
47:56.508 --> 47:59.010
[SPEAKER_01]: So Shouts of them for touching on this.
48:00.250 --> 48:03.434
[SPEAKER_01]: genre of it and it just really good.
48:04.415 --> 48:05.255
[SPEAKER_01]: I think just really good.
48:06.156 --> 48:12.743
[SPEAKER_02]: Barbara Gordon breakout number four from DC Comics Written by Mariko Tamaki art by Amon Kay Nohul Pan.
48:13.243 --> 48:21.692
[SPEAKER_02]: Barbara Gordon is in jail and she has finally made an ally who might be a good ally for her versus an ally who is trying to kill her the entire time.
48:22.192 --> 48:28.034
[SPEAKER_02]: She is trying to figure out who is killing people in the prison and there's a big twist by the end here.
48:28.594 --> 48:29.835
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really enjoying this series.
48:29.895 --> 48:33.096
[SPEAKER_02]: It's going a very unexpected directions every issue.
48:33.696 --> 48:36.137
[SPEAKER_02]: And you might notice it's another title by Mariko Tamaki.
48:36.157 --> 48:39.178
[SPEAKER_02]: You'll be surprised how it connects to Hello Kitty.
48:39.972 --> 48:42.975
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, quite crummy shows up here.
48:42.995 --> 48:57.568
[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't believe it as crummy is the one holding the knife on the left side of this Really fucked up really scared my kids The this book goes so much harder than I expected to like it is about
48:58.208 --> 49:12.253
[SPEAKER_01]: like real violence and drugging people and prison industrial complex in Barbara Gordon having to be right on the edge of surviving a slash being a hero at all.
49:13.013 --> 49:17.975
[SPEAKER_01]: But great twist at the end of this, the arts really good loving this.
49:19.945 --> 49:26.969
[SPEAKER_02]: Next up, amazing Spider-Man Spider-Verseity number five from Marvel, right by Jordan Morris and Joe Kelly, Art by Para Perez.
49:26.989 --> 49:27.810
[SPEAKER_02]: There's the final issue.
49:27.850 --> 49:35.554
[SPEAKER_02]: This series that has found the spider kids, other than Spider-Man being taught by Norman Osborne and Spider-Woman, the big cliffhanger.
49:35.574 --> 49:48.142
[SPEAKER_02]: The last issue is that carnage is back much weaker than before after the death spiral crossover and ends up taking over Norman Osborne turning him into the red goblin again and the team.
49:49.589 --> 49:58.136
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I have to use their powers and they're training to take them down, which is what they've been building to the entire time, which I thought was perfectly executed.
49:58.156 --> 50:01.459
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought this was really nice conclusion to the series.
50:01.559 --> 50:07.584
[SPEAKER_02]: I was bummed that it's done because I was so much more into the idea of spider school that I thought I would be.
50:08.324 --> 50:10.766
[SPEAKER_02]: Really well drawn characters really creatively done.
50:11.166 --> 50:12.908
[SPEAKER_02]: I do hope they get to do a sequel series.
50:12.928 --> 50:18.993
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they will because it feels like it loops just right back into spider man and they'll kind of go from there, but very fun stuff.
50:19.602 --> 50:24.730
[SPEAKER_01]: Really fun, funny at points when need to be high stakes, love spider woman in this.
50:25.651 --> 50:28.876
[SPEAKER_01]: I wish we got more, I wish this title had more space to give us.
50:29.577 --> 50:33.683
[SPEAKER_01]: The kids, the spider kids being college students and being
50:34.724 --> 50:46.232
[SPEAKER_01]: able to just screw around a little bit more because so much of the story naturally ended up being about these big fights but them getting to be younger members of the spider family something we just never see.
50:46.913 --> 50:54.818
[SPEAKER_01]: We get a lot of time with Peter Parker where he we're seeing his life with these other characters we just don't and I like that I want to see more of that.
50:55.745 --> 51:00.427
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the one quibble that I have is I'm tired of carnage.
51:00.487 --> 51:02.108
[SPEAKER_02]: We don't need to do carnage anymore.
51:02.128 --> 51:06.911
[SPEAKER_02]: And unfortunately, spoiler for the end of the issue, spider woman now has carnage.
51:07.091 --> 51:14.055
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's going to roll right into her new series that she is going to be solo starring in.
51:15.202 --> 51:33.051
[SPEAKER_02]: with carnage, part of her body and she's keeping him a check with her biometric stings, which shocks him down and makes him continue to be small and according to her unpowerful, but I'm like, I don't know, do we really need to pass carnage around to everybody?
51:33.431 --> 51:34.091
[SPEAKER_01]: It is crazy.
51:34.151 --> 51:41.415
[SPEAKER_01]: We just had a series that and tragically ended to early of like carnage being kept in check and like,
51:42.256 --> 51:44.518
[SPEAKER_01]: keeping carnage to killing just bad people.
51:44.758 --> 51:49.441
[SPEAKER_01]: And now we're keeping carnage in check with biological classes, sort of like, well, let carnage go.
51:49.621 --> 51:53.023
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let carnage be loose or something.
51:53.664 --> 51:53.904
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
51:54.804 --> 52:01.449
[SPEAKER_02]: It will, of the earth, the number four for the image comics written by Chris Condon and Andrew Eric, art by Charlie Adlar.
52:01.509 --> 52:07.133
[SPEAKER_02]: This is about a girl who has returned home to find a grandmother covered in evil gasoline.
52:08.733 --> 52:17.096
[SPEAKER_02]: And there is a repair bed who comes over tries to help her and down their trot with a bunch of people that are taken over by this evil oil, that old chest nut.
52:17.696 --> 52:19.417
[SPEAKER_01]: Get off the gas, grandma.
52:21.718 --> 52:27.000
[SPEAKER_01]: But this is, I mentioned this last time we talked about it in the Frishu 3.
52:27.040 --> 52:28.760
[SPEAKER_01]: Charlie Adelaide's art is so good.
52:29.200 --> 52:36.343
[SPEAKER_01]: The tension and pacing of this is just pure, good, like small cast horror movie.
52:37.003 --> 52:55.298
[SPEAKER_01]: and that's what that's if you're a fan of that I would start at the first issue there's great back matter talking about oil in America what wildcatting is and was and different mysteries and horror stories text horror stories surrounding that and the main story is really good really creepy I think this is a great read.
52:56.256 --> 53:10.884
[SPEAKER_02]: I agree, and just to mention one thing in particular, there is a scene in here where we get the main monster revealed, which is so horrifying, right in the middle, just absolutely gruesome in exactly the way that you want it to be.
53:11.385 --> 53:16.588
[SPEAKER_02]: So very creative stuff, Charlie Adlarden, in particular at the top of his game, definitely pick this one up.
53:17.568 --> 53:24.174
[SPEAKER_02]: Showdown number three from Ignition Press, which I'd even wild goss art by Tad Kalusha.
53:24.615 --> 53:31.521
[SPEAKER_02]: This is about a woman who's brother was accidentally killed back in the day due to a jerk and accident.
53:32.598 --> 53:41.328
[SPEAKER_02]: but she hasn't been able to let it go, so she heads back home to town, finds the guy that she considers responsible and challenges him to a showdown, ostensibly to the death.
53:41.828 --> 53:49.017
[SPEAKER_02]: The previous issue showed his day before the showdown, and now he's in back in time to see her day before the showdown.
53:49.777 --> 53:51.920
[SPEAKER_02]: This series is fantastic.
53:52.380 --> 53:55.323
[SPEAKER_02]: I am absolutely loving every issue here.
53:55.343 --> 54:08.453
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought last issue was a masterpiece just of character work as we dialed to this guy who ostensibly should be the villain, but you really feel for him by the end of this issue.
54:08.934 --> 54:14.198
[SPEAKER_02]: Here we take the woman who ostensibly should be the hero and dirty her up quite a bit.
54:14.218 --> 54:14.478
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
54:14.498 --> 54:17.601
[SPEAKER_02]: The course of things in a really fascinating way.
54:19.162 --> 54:26.933
[SPEAKER_02]: Even though it is clearly issued to an issue three are parallel to each other, the stories are entirely different as they go in entirely different directions.
54:27.474 --> 54:29.217
[SPEAKER_02]: This is incredibly well done.
54:30.277 --> 54:49.905
[SPEAKER_01]: really really love this as well like the way she is dirtied up for as a character from a character character perspective I thought it was great but also she almost like breaks the cycle and then only the last minute is she sort of given what she needs to then further her revenge plot
54:51.013 --> 55:09.468
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this is reminding me of a lot of the TV show beef both, oh, yeah, first and second season, the way it's really a character study about why people do things, why people want revenge, why people want to strike back at something or someone that does something to them.
55:10.128 --> 55:17.191
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're a fan of that, this book is just, it's not at all in the same world or like biting it off at all.
55:17.231 --> 55:22.833
[SPEAKER_01]: It just feels like if you like that, you're gonna like this because it's a great character study in that same vein.
55:23.992 --> 55:34.703
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's just this incredible tension to the background because we start in media res which is not always my favorite device, but here we start with them being like, are you ready?
55:34.723 --> 55:36.505
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to do the showdown here we go.
55:36.525 --> 55:42.491
[SPEAKER_02]: And you get to like these characters over the next two issues so that when this happens.
55:43.412 --> 56:02.603
[SPEAKER_01]: if this actually does play out it's a tragedy like it's a absolute well I was reading this I was like I was fantasizing of them coming together in just shaking hands and being like our lives are both complicated but I'm like this not the way it's going to resolve I'm like no start to feels I was starting to sweat reading this next dish
56:03.423 --> 56:15.788
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, great stuff definitely picked the series up next up another one that's been Worky it's way up my personal stack bleeding hearts never said we can DC vertigo written by first cap Art by step in Morion.
56:16.348 --> 56:19.109
[SPEAKER_02]: I just mean because how's a little if he about it at first?
56:19.149 --> 56:22.791
[SPEAKER_02]: I like the art I thought Dennis cap was doing some interesting rolled building here
56:23.271 --> 56:30.897
[SPEAKER_02]: were sent in a world where zombies have taken over, they have their own language, they have their own weird names, their own society, and they're barely any humans alive.
56:32.239 --> 56:39.725
[SPEAKER_02]: One of them are Main Zombie, his heart started beating, and he has began to understand humans a little bit and bonded.
56:40.245 --> 56:43.207
[SPEAKER_02]: with a woman and her child.
56:44.068 --> 56:47.130
[SPEAKER_02]: Now they are on the run in this issue, kicking off.
56:47.210 --> 56:49.812
[SPEAKER_02]: What definitely feels like the second arc here.
56:50.893 --> 56:51.894
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is great.
56:52.214 --> 56:54.095
[SPEAKER_02]: Just the character worked out to get sound.
56:54.115 --> 56:56.217
[SPEAKER_02]: Two repetitions is really good in here.
56:56.257 --> 56:57.077
[SPEAKER_02]: The art is great.
56:57.458 --> 57:04.563
[SPEAKER_02]: It all feels like it's really starting to come together and that all started to happen for me in like the last issue at a half or so.
57:06.107 --> 57:20.482
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the way they're able to just come at the zombie storyline from a whole other way is very refreshing and the thing that happens in the back half of this issue, there's an attack
57:21.122 --> 57:22.664
[SPEAKER_01]: and it's upsetting.
57:23.144 --> 57:32.033
[SPEAKER_01]: This book presented as like pretty comedy-forward, you get the like fun names for the zombies, the exploration of zombie culture is constantly like fun and interesting.
57:32.093 --> 57:38.660
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're getting these really strong emotional hits these last couple of issues that are tough.
57:39.300 --> 57:39.721
[SPEAKER_01]: But great.
57:41.049 --> 57:42.870
[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff Landshark, Superstar No.
57:42.890 --> 58:01.641
[SPEAKER_02]: 2 for Marvel Written by Kelly Thompson, Art by Toki Takoro, Jeff has been taken in by Mojo and teamed up with a team of X-Men, a mash-up characters, X-Men and others, mash-up characters, it order as usual to get big ratings for Mojo at the meantime.
58:02.101 --> 58:05.623
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a couple of other characters that are hanging around that are getting in the
58:08.919 --> 58:22.582
[SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy how most a lot of the Jeff stories that are collected that we've read are like Jeff steps on the skateboard Great this one is 500 times more complicated than the normal Jeff stories
58:23.952 --> 58:37.563
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, what are you per se I mean in the middle of this a quiet Wolverine who Jeff is in love with that I if I remember kind of like cause this entire story shows up and it is the most adorable thing you've ever seen in your entire life.
58:37.743 --> 58:43.328
[SPEAKER_02]: Later on spiral is like ooh, juice up ratings we need to steal this fuzzy octopus.
58:43.708 --> 58:55.573
[SPEAKER_02]: Except it's actually a septipus because he has seven legs or something from the real world and it's the real world Meanwhile Gwen Poole is asleep, so she doesn't hear it happening So yeah, it is like this.
58:55.793 --> 58:59.374
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, um I prefer this.
58:59.614 --> 58:59.954
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
58:59.974 --> 59:01.855
[SPEAKER_01]: There's something about like me too.
59:02.095 --> 59:02.495
[SPEAKER_02]: That's not cute
59:04.136 --> 59:16.233
[SPEAKER_02]: But the digital strips don't insult that to absolutely any of you involved, but I read that of like, I'm sorry, and this is doing nothing for me, and this is- You're getting the hell of kitty vibes, yes, yes, I am not a small child, I'm sorry.
59:17.014 --> 59:19.518
[SPEAKER_02]: This is how the other head of like, this is crazy, I love it.
59:20.223 --> 59:20.403
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
59:20.803 --> 59:21.304
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I agree.
59:21.924 --> 59:24.086
[SPEAKER_01]: I like the, it's very fun.
59:24.126 --> 59:31.551
[SPEAKER_01]: Like the different like mashup, Wolverine, Ironman, and everyone here at Stormdazzler, great.
59:32.512 --> 59:33.332
[SPEAKER_01]: Really fun stuff.
59:33.352 --> 59:36.414
[SPEAKER_01]: So like, I like this more ram bit.
59:36.595 --> 59:38.556
[SPEAKER_01]: Is something I'm like, rogue and gambit together?
59:38.576 --> 59:42.119
[SPEAKER_01]: How do I not thought of that as a person?
59:43.719 --> 59:46.381
[SPEAKER_02]: Just by every day life, yeah.
59:46.421 --> 59:47.461
[SPEAKER_02]: So very, very fun.
59:47.901 --> 59:55.005
[SPEAKER_02]: Next up, the Trillion Dollar Kid, number two, from Goast Machine at Image Comics, written by Jeff Johnson, Peter J. Tomasi, Art by Stefano Sibion.
59:55.025 --> 01:00:05.870
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the final issue of the unbelievable crossover that has introduced the Trillion Dollar Kid to this world team to bump with Hordesby and Halo and the Rocket Fellows.
01:00:06.290 --> 01:00:09.912
[SPEAKER_02]: And now we're rocketing into our next adventures after this.
01:00:10.472 --> 01:00:21.016
[SPEAKER_02]: there's also been a lot of discussion about this and whether this is good or I'm responsible in the society in our discord which I think is very interesting.
01:00:21.236 --> 01:00:22.296
[SPEAKER_02]: What do you want to say about that, Julie?
01:00:22.396 --> 01:00:24.357
[SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting, everyone's like, no thank you.
01:00:24.457 --> 01:00:25.597
[SPEAKER_01]: This kid is too rich.
01:00:25.617 --> 01:00:26.618
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, okay.
01:00:28.919 --> 01:00:31.179
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, definitely.
01:00:31.400 --> 01:00:32.080
[SPEAKER_01]: And like
01:00:33.102 --> 01:00:38.285
[SPEAKER_01]: But it doesn't, to me, this story, wow, that is definitely the basis for it.
01:00:38.785 --> 01:00:49.191
[SPEAKER_01]: It's much more about this, like, found family and trying to fill in the gaps in our lives that we can't do, and the money is just the magic.
01:00:49.411 --> 01:00:53.734
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the meguffin thing that is he's trying to, he can only use to get ahead.
01:00:54.314 --> 01:01:00.057
[SPEAKER_01]: So it doesn't bother me as much that he's not fixing the world through social consciousness.
01:01:01.799 --> 01:01:09.416
[SPEAKER_01]: And when in fact he's just like hoping his robot Butler will shoot out a tiny robot Butler that will then cure him when he can free adjusts it.
01:01:10.942 --> 01:01:30.126
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, just to be clear, like, I do feel the same thing that everybody's talking about on the discord, where it's like, I don't know if I want to read about like Richie Rich right now when we have problems with our own insane Richie Riches who are destroying the world in a rapid pace, as well as all of our jobs, et cetera, et cetera.
01:01:30.146 --> 01:01:32.146
[SPEAKER_02]: So I totally get that feeling.
01:01:32.746 --> 01:01:35.847
[SPEAKER_01]: But just one last thing on that, like, yeah, this isn't
01:01:37.307 --> 01:01:45.092
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't connect Trinidad Kid or Richie Rich with Elon Musk because they have one quality income and have being rich.
01:01:45.612 --> 01:01:49.594
[SPEAKER_01]: Richie Rich and Trinidad Kid, or at least I'll speak for Richie Rich.
01:01:49.814 --> 01:01:50.615
[SPEAKER_01]: He had a bunch.
01:01:50.735 --> 01:01:52.116
[SPEAKER_01]: He was a conscience guy.
01:01:52.296 --> 01:01:57.338
[SPEAKER_01]: He was trying to like do good things and that was a late-hearted fun thing.
01:01:57.679 --> 01:02:01.541
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to keep Elon Musk out of my mind.
01:02:02.582 --> 01:02:08.888
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't need him leaking in here, just because this kid has money doesn't make, doesn't connect those things to you.
01:02:09.149 --> 01:02:16.276
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if this was a unconnected title, I think I'd be more in agreement with what everybody's saying at the discord as is.
01:02:18.379 --> 01:02:27.461
[SPEAKER_02]: what they are trying to do with this now renamed unbelievable universe, who was originally family autoses, is just like, all ages fine for everybody.
01:02:27.581 --> 01:02:31.802
[SPEAKER_02]: She's an angel, he's an angel, she's a demon or whatever one it is.
01:02:32.522 --> 01:02:33.883
[SPEAKER_02]: They team up, period.
01:02:34.243 --> 01:02:38.364
[SPEAKER_02]: They're the Rockefellers, they're the Jetsons, but like a little darker from the future, period.
01:02:38.764 --> 01:02:46.906
[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's no real social commentary that they're going for, and I think you can effectively argue whether that's a responsible thing to do in our today's society at all.
01:02:48.666 --> 01:02:50.768
[SPEAKER_02]: Just on the basis of the comic.
01:02:51.549 --> 01:03:02.739
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, he's goal is like all I want to do is create machines that make lollipops and Instead of my parents are busy, and that's the plot of this book and you either have to be on board or not if you're not what I was a percent fair
01:03:03.498 --> 01:03:15.903
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, as for that, I'm not, uh, I'm not because of the billionaire thing, but mainly because like, I don't think they made enough of deletiation between trillion dollar kid and the rocket fellers were the rocket fellers.
01:03:15.923 --> 01:03:16.063
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
01:03:16.083 --> 01:03:29.988
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, we can invent anything and he's like, I'm rich so I can invent anything and I'm like, all right, what actually in like, in reality is the difference between the two of you because right now you're doing the exact same things.
01:03:31.472 --> 01:03:32.192
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you there.
01:03:32.212 --> 01:03:49.449
[SPEAKER_01]: It felt like they should have just made this a rocket feller story because like even the kid whose name ironically is Richie in the rocket fellers is very much the same age the same look the same vibe of our trillion dollar kid.
01:03:50.270 --> 01:03:57.035
[SPEAKER_01]: And he could just be the one leading this, but you know, they want to introduce, and there's some cool stuff that happens.
01:03:57.116 --> 01:04:09.485
[SPEAKER_01]: The story of like the band aid company, like I thought that was interesting and fun, but I agree with you, this whole universe feels a little out of time.
01:04:09.966 --> 01:04:13.869
[SPEAKER_01]: It feels very like old school, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
01:04:14.690 --> 01:04:15.230
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like
01:04:19.772 --> 01:04:19.952
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
01:04:20.733 --> 01:04:23.614
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, for more on that, you can discuss in our discord.
01:04:23.735 --> 01:04:30.719
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's move on and talk about seven wives number three from IDW written by Zoe Tunnel, art by Tesla and Birgen DeKoi.
01:04:31.059 --> 01:04:41.246
[SPEAKER_02]: There's the final issue of this book that has focused on, keep on and say, cult, and you keep correcting me to, is it the Church of Latter-day?
01:04:42.546 --> 01:04:47.870
[SPEAKER_01]: It's technically a sect of the Church of Latter-day Saints, where like that believes in
01:04:48.550 --> 01:04:50.172
[SPEAKER_01]: Bigger me multiple wives.
01:04:50.392 --> 01:04:52.594
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, so it's his guy with multiple wives.
01:04:52.634 --> 01:04:53.254
[SPEAKER_02]: He was killed.
01:04:53.494 --> 01:04:55.256
[SPEAKER_02]: Detectives have been trying to figure out who it is.
01:04:55.276 --> 01:05:11.589
[SPEAKER_02]: The big shocker at the end of the last issue is that he also had a child bride who was secret and that's bad in case you're wondering they delve into that and finally we find out who killed him by the end of the issue as well as some changes there.
01:05:11.969 --> 01:05:13.771
[SPEAKER_02]: You were very into this, I believe Justin.
01:05:14.031 --> 01:05:15.092
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like this.
01:05:15.312 --> 01:05:18.915
[SPEAKER_01]: As a procedural, I thought that just the pacing of this was really good.
01:05:18.935 --> 01:05:21.937
[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many books that are like doing crime.
01:05:22.938 --> 01:05:31.045
[SPEAKER_01]: Crime stories, where it feels like we just get into a pattern, sort of the TV, crime pattern.
01:05:31.625 --> 01:05:37.770
[SPEAKER_01]: And this I feel like really was able to short-circuit that and give us a very comic book feeling.
01:05:38.230 --> 01:05:48.056
[SPEAKER_01]: crime procedural, harder to do, I think, and it moved very quickly and didn't allow us to get stuck in the, like, Noari slow pace of it.
01:05:48.216 --> 01:06:02.965
[SPEAKER_01]: It felt like a breakneck crime story that we moved into, found out a series of horrifying things, and then wrapped up in three issues, which was, I thought, just the right amount of story.
01:06:04.012 --> 01:06:05.153
[SPEAKER_02]: I really like this format.
01:06:05.173 --> 01:06:09.455
[SPEAKER_02]: These oversized three-issue crime epics that they're doing.
01:06:09.475 --> 01:06:13.597
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is a really nice thing that I do W is doing.
01:06:13.637 --> 01:06:15.539
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just it's a good line up.
01:06:15.859 --> 01:06:17.680
[SPEAKER_02]: And this story, like I said, was very good.
01:06:17.760 --> 01:06:21.462
[SPEAKER_02]: I like that they didn't shy away from the darker aspects of the ending.
01:06:21.522 --> 01:06:23.243
[SPEAKER_02]: It's pretty complicated at the end there.
01:06:23.923 --> 01:06:24.684
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, this was good.
01:06:24.944 --> 01:06:27.527
[SPEAKER_02]: A good art, good story, interesting mystery.
01:06:28.168 --> 01:06:32.652
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I've been enjoying the other books that they've been putting out through the IDW crime line as well.
01:06:32.752 --> 01:06:34.034
[SPEAKER_02]: So very happy with this.
01:06:35.422 --> 01:06:37.463
[SPEAKER_02]: Next up, Clayface, Celebrity Dirt.
01:06:37.543 --> 01:06:42.145
[SPEAKER_02]: Number two, from DC Comics, written by Jude Ellis and S. Doyle, art by Fran Galan.
01:06:42.245 --> 01:06:56.630
[SPEAKER_02]: We are following, Clayface has discovered that somebody else is impersonating him in Hollywood, so he is heading there to try and take his identity back, but things don't quite go totally smoothly by the end of this issue.
01:06:57.150 --> 01:07:03.172
[SPEAKER_02]: We had Jude on the show a couple of weeks back, he talked about this book and the inspirations ago.
01:07:03.213 --> 01:07:03.793
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen to that.
01:07:04.823 --> 01:07:05.325
[SPEAKER_02]: This is great.
01:07:05.485 --> 01:07:07.009
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a great clay-faced story.
01:07:07.030 --> 01:07:10.199
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really enjoying this if the movie is half as good.
01:07:10.339 --> 01:07:11.382
[SPEAKER_02]: It'll be excellent.
01:07:12.032 --> 01:07:16.876
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love there's such a great horrifying cold open to this story that I thought was good.
01:07:17.396 --> 01:07:24.941
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of twists and turns to use a peatla page term in what happens here.
01:07:25.662 --> 01:07:39.132
[SPEAKER_01]: It is the art really gets into the goopiness of clayface and I've used a goop in a negative way to describe other stories in this very episode of the stack, but I'm using it as a positive here.
01:07:40.520 --> 01:07:55.072
[SPEAKER_02]: yeah really good stuff next up just brutal number five for big nation press written by Dennis hopeless art by bram revel i've been loving this book the rough pitch which is not actually close to what's going on really at all is
01:07:56.618 --> 01:08:04.226
[SPEAKER_02]: what if he managed to where your parents, what if Skeletor came back, what would that mean for their two kids, what would mean that for their family?
01:08:04.646 --> 01:08:14.916
[SPEAKER_02]: There's also elements of a lot of other different fantasy at 80s style worlds going on here and this issue after the parents were killed a couple of issues back.
01:08:15.637 --> 01:08:17.399
[SPEAKER_02]: They are now inheriting their powers.
01:08:17.559 --> 01:08:29.290
[SPEAKER_02]: The sun was tricked by the ancient evil that do throwing essentially the sort of attorney into this acid lake sea.
01:08:29.550 --> 01:08:29.830
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
01:08:30.411 --> 01:08:36.897
[SPEAKER_02]: And this issue, the donor, is finding out about her powers for the spirit of her mom, as well as the entire history of their family.
01:08:37.817 --> 01:08:48.380
[SPEAKER_02]: Another excellent issue, and I think what's really working about this, beyond it being funny and creative, is just Dennis, really keeping it focused on the family and the family died out.
01:08:48.700 --> 01:08:58.623
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, we talked to about it on the podcast a couple of months back, and he's clearly babysitting on his own experiences, trials and tribulations in terms of marriage and whatnot.
01:08:58.643 --> 01:09:04.025
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just really well done, it's very heartfelt, and I love these characters.
01:09:04.703 --> 01:09:10.265
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it feels like a such an expression of the writer on the page.
01:09:10.365 --> 01:09:14.266
[SPEAKER_01]: Like you really feel the personal heartbeat in a lot of the characters.
01:09:14.286 --> 01:09:15.147
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that really works.
01:09:15.507 --> 01:09:18.588
[SPEAKER_01]: And the art reflects the timeliness, the time of it.
01:09:18.668 --> 01:09:20.249
[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like you said very 80s.
01:09:20.909 --> 01:09:31.713
[SPEAKER_01]: Not only the human, she or a nature of the story, but the character design, the clothes they're wearing, everything feels like it is a bit sprung out of the past in a good way.
01:09:32.493 --> 01:09:34.476
[SPEAKER_01]: And the daughter story I thought was great.
01:09:34.496 --> 01:09:36.659
[SPEAKER_01]: We get the love story of the parents.
01:09:36.739 --> 01:09:39.102
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a nice twist there that I thought was really cool.
01:09:39.703 --> 01:09:43.869
[SPEAKER_01]: And then the last page with the daughter's choice I thought was awesome.
01:09:44.149 --> 01:09:48.195
[SPEAKER_01]: Just really surprising and breathtaking last page I thought.
01:09:48.817 --> 01:09:49.697
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, great stuff.
01:09:49.837 --> 01:09:53.999
[SPEAKER_02]: If you haven't been reading this, go back, pick up the rest of the series and read it all through.
01:09:54.659 --> 01:09:55.920
[SPEAKER_02]: Next up, the Foundry.
01:09:55.980 --> 01:10:00.522
[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, from Dark Horse Comics, written by Mike Mendellin, Chris Robertson, art by Christopher Mitten.
01:10:01.002 --> 01:10:11.206
[SPEAKER_02]: This is about what if the BPRB D was instead in the UK around Victoria's steampunk times and is basically League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?
01:10:12.587 --> 01:10:12.887
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
01:10:13.654 --> 01:10:21.839
[SPEAKER_01]: Though you're not using famous figures, just using regular old folks who are like, you think it's crazy that a woman is here?
01:10:21.899 --> 01:10:29.284
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the people around her are jerks to her too, but she is very adept at being the science officer.
01:10:30.405 --> 01:10:42.053
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh, it's just a, I thought this covers fantastic, and I like the idea, I wanted to be on this final fantasy-esque airship, flying around, doing solving crimes.
01:10:43.114 --> 01:11:00.735
[SPEAKER_01]: super natural crimes and like I felt like that just this first issue is pretty slow and a bit airy I would have could have gotten to the end of the issue a lot faster than like the idea of what the next issue would be but just feels a little bit like slow, little too slow.
01:11:01.215 --> 01:11:02.717
[SPEAKER_02]: There was too much business going out of here.
01:11:02.917 --> 01:11:13.265
[SPEAKER_02]: I know we said that about her books earlier at the stack, but it was true of this one as well where they're like, well, we got to talk about our organization and what's going on in our relationships to each other and what our mission is.
01:11:13.805 --> 01:11:16.127
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, oh my god, can you please get to it?
01:11:16.207 --> 01:11:20.069
[SPEAKER_02]: And that there's two pages at the other, like, oh, our ship is going down.
01:11:20.089 --> 01:11:20.290
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
01:11:21.435 --> 01:11:22.336
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
01:11:23.296 --> 01:11:26.038
[SPEAKER_01]: It's going down to them like you're falling through space.
01:11:26.819 --> 01:11:28.280
[SPEAKER_01]: You're regular people.
01:11:29.040 --> 01:11:30.161
[SPEAKER_01]: What's happening right now?
01:11:30.441 --> 01:11:30.662
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
01:11:31.302 --> 01:11:31.642
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
01:11:31.722 --> 01:11:39.748
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a bit of a bummer because I was actually really looking forward to this one and we know of course this team is really good so they could have done something better fun.
01:11:42.470 --> 01:11:48.413
[SPEAKER_02]: The Fury of Firestorm, number five from DC Comics, written by Jeff LeBeehr, art by Raphael Dillatore.
01:11:48.493 --> 01:11:56.817
[SPEAKER_02]: We are diving deep into the history of the Firestorm Matrix as a Martin Stein and Old Flame Girlbird.
01:11:56.897 --> 01:11:58.318
[SPEAKER_02]: I actually don't remember what her name is.
01:11:58.378 --> 01:11:58.818
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
01:11:59.519 --> 01:12:06.002
[SPEAKER_02]: Firestorm's Old Girlfriend are trying to rescue Roddy Rayman to is taking on the Firestorm Matrix.
01:12:06.562 --> 01:12:10.324
[SPEAKER_02]: Solo, which is caused to problem, where the Firestorm Matrix is now going rogue.
01:12:11.465 --> 01:12:12.486
[SPEAKER_02]: destroy so many things.
01:12:13.466 --> 01:12:13.867
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in.
01:12:14.467 --> 01:12:16.208
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I.
01:12:16.929 --> 01:12:18.169
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, this is great.
01:12:18.189 --> 01:12:20.171
[SPEAKER_02]: This gets better every issue.
01:12:20.191 --> 01:12:31.358
[SPEAKER_02]: I think I was pretty critical of the first issue or two for feeling a little too much like the recent captain Adam mini series, but it's delineating itself further and further, the more the Jeff, the mere dives into the
01:12:31.438 --> 01:12:33.920
[SPEAKER_02]: history of Firestorm, which is really interesting.
01:12:34.401 --> 01:12:39.865
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's art of great twists and turns by the end here, particularly involving Martin Stein.
01:12:40.366 --> 01:12:45.090
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a very dark series for them to be doing in the main continuity, but I'm taking it.
01:12:46.191 --> 01:12:47.112
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
01:12:47.132 --> 01:12:47.833
[SPEAKER_01]: I really like this.
01:12:47.913 --> 01:12:51.596
[SPEAKER_01]: The art is great to we're getting a mix of classic,
01:12:52.325 --> 01:12:59.606
[SPEAKER_01]: 80s Firestorm comic look with a very modern, much more intense current story.
01:13:00.667 --> 01:13:09.448
[SPEAKER_01]: I think, and the corruption at the core of the idea, Firestorm, like, it's weird that it's a professor and his student right here.
01:13:10.248 --> 01:13:14.649
[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like Jeff Lemir is like, that's a strong crack.
01:13:14.709 --> 01:13:17.750
[SPEAKER_01]: I can wedge a crowbar into and tell an interesting story.
01:13:18.671 --> 01:13:31.561
[SPEAKER_01]: The fire hawk relationship is really well used here to both in the way that the professor is literally using her and the emotional stakes that are brought into it here.
01:13:32.161 --> 01:13:32.702
[SPEAKER_01]: Great series.
01:13:35.093 --> 01:13:59.686
[SPEAKER_02]: uh... the dog sitter number two from ignition press written by jbs rich art by magan levin's now last issue p p i really went into this one because we thought it was something other than it was we thought who it's a dark mystery or it's aliens or it's super natural or it's serial killer you said every time she was returning a dog is going to be a corpse
01:14:05.688 --> 01:14:25.433
[SPEAKER_02]: The actual plot of this book is she has a dog center who's trying to find romance in the big city period That's literally the whole concept of the book So and this issue Alex I think it's pretty complicated so here's the thing is I felt bad about Being so confused about the first issue that I figured let's give the second issue a try and like that's cute romance
01:14:27.187 --> 01:14:28.788
[SPEAKER_01]: It's still not on board.
01:14:28.848 --> 01:14:29.888
[SPEAKER_01]: What do you need murder?
01:14:30.108 --> 01:14:31.009
[SPEAKER_01]: You need one of these dogs.
01:14:31.029 --> 01:14:32.809
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no.
01:14:32.889 --> 01:14:34.250
[SPEAKER_01]: I do need one of the dogs to eat.
01:14:34.290 --> 01:14:36.011
[SPEAKER_02]: But we're building up to like some.
01:14:36.151 --> 01:14:37.031
[SPEAKER_02]: There's some peed here.
01:14:37.111 --> 01:14:39.032
[SPEAKER_02]: There's some complications going on.
01:14:39.052 --> 01:14:40.953
[SPEAKER_01]: I like this.
01:14:41.133 --> 01:14:46.015
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the the the the twist and the drama of this issue.
01:14:46.055 --> 01:14:46.855
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought was well done.
01:14:46.875 --> 01:14:48.996
[SPEAKER_01]: There's multiple twists, multiple surprises.
01:14:49.916 --> 01:14:50.857
[SPEAKER_01]: That just what you want.
01:14:52.073 --> 01:14:56.394
[SPEAKER_01]: And the romances is legit, and the dogs are just friendly little poochies.
01:14:57.854 --> 01:15:01.675
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, if you're looking for a good romance book, don't make my mistake.
01:15:01.915 --> 01:15:02.756
[SPEAKER_02]: Pick this one up.
01:15:03.696 --> 01:15:10.597
[SPEAKER_02]: Beast of Reak in at number two from Dark Horse Comics, Written by Julio Anta, art by Danielle Eresari.
01:15:10.617 --> 01:15:21.260
[SPEAKER_02]: We had Julio on the show a couple of weeks back talking about this very book, which is about a chupacabra at Puerto Rico, who is maybe striking up a romance with
01:15:23.389 --> 01:15:26.351
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you got dogs in the ring.
01:15:26.951 --> 01:15:29.053
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that's what happens.
01:15:29.113 --> 01:15:29.974
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think.
01:15:30.154 --> 01:15:33.836
[SPEAKER_02]: I was wrong about the dog sitter, so I got to be right about piece to break him.
01:15:34.277 --> 01:15:37.479
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're seeing, you went everyone to fall in love, and that's beautiful.
01:15:37.499 --> 01:15:39.421
[SPEAKER_01]: I like this.
01:15:39.501 --> 01:15:42.203
[SPEAKER_01]: I sent to Hollywood when we were talking.
01:15:42.243 --> 01:15:45.085
[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love the design of the villain here, and we could see him again.
01:15:46.158 --> 01:15:47.339
[SPEAKER_01]: extreme villain face.
01:15:48.019 --> 01:15:54.362
[SPEAKER_01]: He looks like Richard Branson if he baked in the oven for like 20 to 40 minutes.
01:15:55.622 --> 01:15:57.203
[SPEAKER_01]: Which is a good look.
01:15:57.383 --> 01:16:02.145
[SPEAKER_01]: Our main character really taken some risks and the mystery is unfolding.
01:16:03.444 --> 01:16:27.278
[SPEAKER_02]: uh... yet like you said really good character designs i made to get it to a further it's about a developer that wants to develop the island of a lot of two and it stirs up the chupacabra so good creature feature good social commentary as well definitely pick this one up and last but not least the nice house by the sea number eleven from dc vr to go written by james time the fourth art by alvaro martin is buino
01:16:28.508 --> 01:16:53.089
[SPEAKER_02]: really getting down to it now with some huge revolutions in this issue about both our nice house by the sea and our nice house by the lake we're finding out what Max and Walter are two aliens question mark are really doing there and there are some huge surprises that go down in this issue in terms of what they know and when they know it as well as what is potentially
01:16:54.730 --> 01:17:01.874
[SPEAKER_02]: And I would assume leading it to a third series that will be undivided by a new body of water or maybe no water, I don't know.
01:17:03.055 --> 01:17:03.935
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's good you think.
01:17:03.955 --> 01:17:05.957
[SPEAKER_01]: Look at Crick.
01:17:06.057 --> 01:17:08.418
[SPEAKER_02]: Nice house by the Lincle fire.
01:17:08.438 --> 01:17:12.160
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's where he is at Lake Highten Lake.
01:17:12.640 --> 01:17:13.561
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Hellfire.
01:17:15.542 --> 01:17:17.003
[SPEAKER_01]: I River Bend, maybe?
01:17:17.563 --> 01:17:17.723
[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
01:17:17.743 --> 01:17:18.564
[SPEAKER_01]: Nice place to be.
01:17:18.724 --> 01:17:19.364
[SPEAKER_01]: Is that us?
01:17:19.504 --> 01:17:21.646
[SPEAKER_01]: No, that's the land, nevermind.
01:17:21.706 --> 01:17:21.946
[SPEAKER_01]: Nice.
01:17:22.226 --> 01:17:23.747
[SPEAKER_01]: It's still archipelago.
01:17:25.662 --> 01:17:52.827
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, the, uh, I enjoyed this so much and reading this issue, I was struck by how much this is just James Tainen exercising his, like, path to becoming a creator as if he's the Walter character bringing in all elements of his life and being like, be characters and live and I will write down your words and stories, um, and cool to be able to tell a great story
01:17:54.242 --> 01:17:56.564
[SPEAKER_01]: really showing the work at the same time.
01:17:57.524 --> 01:17:58.845
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what's going to happen.
01:17:59.506 --> 01:18:01.007
[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of characters here.
01:18:01.027 --> 01:18:02.668
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're going to lose some of them.
01:18:03.188 --> 01:18:13.315
[SPEAKER_01]: The revelations that happen here are great and long payoffs from not only the beginning of this very series, but the nice house by the lake as well.
01:18:14.642 --> 01:18:40.256
[SPEAKER_02]: great stuff beautiful art as well throughout as usual in this issue and that is it for the stack if you'd like to support this podcast on all the podcast we do patreon.com slash comic book club also video a live show every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to youtube come hang out we love to travel to you about comics apple spotify android or the app of your choice to subscribe this and follow the show comic book club live dot com for this podcast many more until next time we'll see you at the comic book club
