Speaker 1: Good morning and welcome back to Scripture for outcasts. And I'm glad to be with you this morning. You know, reflecting on these readings, we've got Paul on one hand, who seems so agitated and urgent, and he's defending the integrity of the Gospels to the Galatians. And then we also have the Good Samaritan parable. It's, you know, a beloved story that Jesus told. And it might seem at first like they're really different texts, but I think they're asking the same underlying question. And that is, whose voice do you actually trust and who gets to be within the circle of care? And I think for you, XL parts carrying shame or fear, old wounds. I mean, I think that question is, is kind of everything. So let's just start for a moment and reflect on what Paul says to the Galatians. He almost sounds wounded himself. He says, I am amazed that you are so quickly forsaking the one who called you for a different gospel. And he's he has a sense of urgency here, but also some grief in his voice. You know, someone has come in after him and told the Galatians a different story. And that story distorts grace into something you have to earn into performance, into more law. So as we know, in ifs and parts work, our our internal system is a lot like this early Christian community. You know, we have this original truth that's planted deep within us. You know, deep within us, we know that we are beloved and that we belong, right? It's the space of grace deep within our innermost self. But then we have other voices, inner critics, and, you know, manager parts that might be convinced that we need to perform our way into worthiness.
Speaker 1: Firefighter parts trying to numb the aches. Um, and if we grew up in an environment where love felt conditional, you know, we believe this different gospel about ourselves and it's not the gospel of grace. It's the gospel of if only I do enough or do more, achieve enough, or look good enough, and maybe if maybe I'll be loved. So Paul is pretty fiery here, really. You know, because he knows what's at stake. It's the most important Message. Um, it's the core of the gospel itself. So I don't, I don't know that we need to read them as being harsh just to be harsh. No, he's protecting something so tender, so important. And that is that this truth that we are loved by grace, not by merit. So I want to ask your, you know, exiles today, whatever exile parts to listen very carefully. What have you come to believe about yourself? Is it? I'm only lovable when I'm useful. Is it I have to be perfect to belong? Is it? My needs are just too much. Is it? I have to earn rest or earn love or earn belonging? And what Paul says here, and I think what Christ would say is, let that false gospel go. Let that burden go. You know, not because you're bad in believing it. Nothing like that. You believe it? Because somewhere someone taught it to you and often connected to real pain, but it was never the true gospel about you, the true gospel. You know, the one that Paul here says he does not invent, but that he received through revelation is this you are held by grace. Full stop. It's not a grace you achieved. It's a grace that found you.
Speaker 2: There are so many ways to find more content from doctor Jerry. And one of those ways is by ordering his book called The Litanies of the heart. That's what Sophia Institute Press, and it's linked below.
Speaker 1: Our patrons, Mary, our mother and father of notes, pray for us. Saint Joseph, pray for us. Saint John the Baptist, pray for us. God bless.
